This was mine and my fiancés first time here and it was so good ! Leona (hopefully didn't butcher her name) was so sweet and gave us recommendations she was quick and just awesome overall! We both got the chicken sour cream enchiladas and they were delicious! We also ate dessert, sopapillas and they were equally as amazing! Def recommend this hidden gem over Jaliscos , the owner also came buy our table and asked if we needed anything and he was so kind and sweet, we asked if they accept bigger parties that way we can come here after our courthouse wedding ceremony with our close family and they said of course!! Carrera's is one of the best restaurants in town! The chili verde is the bomb. You're also able to pick up a green chili verde burrito on their Thursday's special. Its Taco Tuesday and it was time to give this place a try, have driven by it numerous times. If a Mexican place has great refried beans, the remainder is usually pretty good as well. This place did not disappoint !! The refried beans were great and the carne' asada beef tacos, along with a good smattering of braised onions and peppers, were very good. Carrera's is a Kaufman restaurant with history and located on Washington between Highway 175 and downtown Kaufman to the north. Although off the highway, we found both the service and the food to be impeccable at this older Mexican restaurant. What people say about their crispy taco shells is true. Flavorful and able to stand up to the moist filling, your shell will not get soggy and still be crunchy until the last bite. Even if you get a plate full of them! I had the combo enchilada plate - a trio of cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas with a beef taco and rice and beans. Authentic Tex-Mex! My spouse had the three taco plate and we shared a bowl of queso; done the right way with peppers in a silky cheesy sauce. Their salsa is piquant; but not too hot and perfect with all of the food. Service was very sweet and the food was out of the kitchen fast at lunchtime. The owner and Patrón of the family stopped by our table to check on us, too. The food here is amazing!! We ordered the chicken fajitas and the chicken combo. Both turned out great! I loved the combo because it gave me a taste of their full menu without spending a fortune trying all the meals over a few months. A little pricey for every-day eating, but these folks know how to make TexMex. Their beef fajitas are really well done. Beef skirts (the cut of beef used for fajita meat) is not an easy cut to cook well - and in many places I've eaten, it's cook wrong so that it's like eating chewing gum instead of beef. Carrera's knows how to do it. The decor leaves much to be desired. They would do well to hire a professional designer to consult with them on how to properly light and decorate the place... but the food is good. Some of the waitresses are unexperienced. We had one come up to our table about 40 times during our meal to ask us if everything was ok. She did this precisely when we had food in our mouths. She always repeated the same line as though she'd been yelled at for not asking customers how things were going. I like an attentive waitstaff - but it was too much. During one visit, I asked if I could get some mushrooms with my fajitas. When the fajitas arrived, there was a side dish with lots of veggies (zucchini, bell peppers and a few mushrooms). The waitress sheepishly explained that the kitchen staff did not understand her and thought I had ordered a side of steamed vegetables. Even though I didn't want all the other veggies and wanted mushrooms cooked with the fajitas, this was not what I got, and I was charged for the plate I didn't ask for. I will not be asking for mushrooms ever again - they don't know how to cook them properly. We've also been waited on by a male waiter and the owner - who are far more experienced in waiting on tables. You never have to wait on a drink refill. There is a seating area in the back with a window unit that keeps the back area cooler than the front - which gets the hot sun in their big picture window all day long. We always ask to sit in the back so we get better air circulation. read more

Saw this place had good reviews so decided to stop by and support a local smaller business during these hard times. Was not disappointed in the slightest. I got the chicken chimichanga, which was cooked perfectly and tasted great! My mom got the beef fajitas, and normally I don't like beef fajitas because the meat is drier and tougher, however, I tried my moms beef and was beyond surprised. Seasoned perfectly, and super tender! The place is smaller and cute, has a homey feel. Staff/owners were super friendly, and very gracious to have support and customers right now. Definitely recommend. We got the churros to go. They looked and smelled amazing. The tea is fresh and good, and their coke tastes like coke. Didn't find any flaws. I read the other noteworthy reviews and decided to try Carrera's. Maybe it was a bad day for Carrera's, but when we arrived during the normal lunch rush, the parking lot had only three cars. I tried the tamales and their tacos. Salsa was okay but watered-down and mostly liquid. Chips were good but Carrera's only serves a very small portion of chips. The entree was tasteless and bland which is surprising for Mexican cuisine. Frijoles were very bland and thin like they had been diluted as much as possible. Taco shells were stale, meat filling was dodgy with a curious odor-smelt old or on the verge of spoiling. Rice was the blandest rice that I have ever eaten- absolutely NO FLAVOR at all. The tamales were small, tasteless, and covered with a very thin sauce which they called chili con carne. Carrera' serves the absolute BLANDEST so-called Mexican food that I have ever experienced. PRICES were VERY HIGH for the quality of Carrera's food. They even charge extra if paying with a credit card. It appears that Carrera's is cutting any and all overhead just to keep the doors open. Unfortunately the food, service, and atmosphere are not good enough to compete with other area restaurants. I would have had a better Mexican food at a better price at the Taco Bell across the street. read more

In my opinion this is the best sit down Mexican restaurant in Kaufman. It doesnt have as much of a selection as the bigger restaurants, but the food and the service are the best. This is a relatively small place that isn't usually that busy. This allows the staff to tend to you in a timely manner, as well as allowing for a more quiet dining experience compared to bigger restaurants.
