"I can see clearly now...." No really, I can finally see clearly now! So here's the deal, and I'm being really serious here, I had been having an issue with my eyesight for a couple of years now. I had another eye doctor who was not treating my issue correctly. My eyes were constantly red, irritated and then my eyesight was blurred. So blurred that it has affected my every day life. I couldn't drive. I couldn't get any work done on my computer. It was awful. And then, the heavens opened up and I was introduced to Dr. Carrie Kubota and her incredible staff. From the moment I contacted their office, I could tell they really cared. They were able to squeeze me in as a first time patient. And when I left Dr. Carrie Kubota's office for the first time, I cried. She immediately saw the issue..... turns out I have three major issues. The doctor decided to tackle the first part, which is the severity of the blurry eyes and the irritation. As I write this review, I'm still in the process of correcting the irritation and the blurriness. Turns out the blurriness is caused from extreme dry eyes. She has a great solution for my dry eyes. And I should be able to start those treatments soon. The last issue, I simply need glasses. I have already recommended Dr. Carrie Kubota to many friends and colleagues. I was naive thinking that having insurance and going to local doctor will save me more $$ than going to LensCrafters. I was so wrong. Here are few things: 1. Bought a frame here, supposedly portion of it will be covered by insurance but I end up paying $200 more for the frame which would cost me $150 while this place was giving $350. So not only I didn't save at all, but also paid extra. Such a great deal right? 2. Outdated equipment, I was a bit surprised to see warn off seats in their exam area and overall a bit worn off office. I mean if you overcharge, why don't buy some new furniture? 3. Asked to email me the receipt, lady was nice but was not surprised when I didn't receive anything and also shared that they sold me overpriced frame, she reassured she will talk to doctor, but been weeks and nothing. Again not surprised. Will never go back, there is nothing special and personable about this place, just higher prices and outdated equipment and furniture. I'd rather choose LensCrafters - at least they won't overcharge me read more

Please know that the accolades in this review might make you want to roll your eyes at me, as it will probably feel theatrical or overly dramatic. This is the exact opposite of my intention. Please take my words at face value. Dr. Kubota is the warmest, most personable, and most thorough yet concise medical professional I have ever seen. She has a gift for connecting with patients of all ages. My 4 year old was enraptured with everything Dr. Kubota said and did during the exam. I was mind-blown by her ability to engage my daughter. For me, she solved issues with my eyes that have been a mystery to every other eye doctor I've seen (starting at age 8). It is so apparent that she is beyond passionate about every aspect of her work. Her knowledge is remarkable. Her ability to teach/explain surpasses that of any practitioner (GP, specialist, etc). Her energy is familiar, genuine, and kind. It is very clear that this is her calling. She is the type of person that we rarely come across in life, if at all (like the one influential teacher or coach that leaves a lasting impression). Dr. Kubota is friendly and a great eye professional, but every appointment we've gone to has put us there for an hour and a half minimum. My daughter and I have been going to her for the last 6 years. The staff is unorganized, doesn't call when your glasses or contacts are ready and doesn't return phone calls. I've left two messages in two weeks, because I can't get a live person on the phone. I specifically mentioned that my glasses are broken and I need a replacement ASAP. I also mentioned I need to get my daughter an appointment to transition from glasses to contacts. Apparently, my broken glasses are not enough of a priority to get a call back. I don't post many reviews, so this one is way overdue. Dr Kubota has been our family's optometrist for many years...we wouldn't consider trusting our eyesight or eye health to anyone else! I'd give her 10 stars if possible! She's the most thorough optometrist I've ever been to and I've worn glasses and contacts for 40 years. She has a gift for fitting contacts just right even with astigmatism. Our daughters would come back from college to see Dr Kubota for their exams. Because she's thorough, you may have to wait, but it's worth it. Her staff is well trained, knowledgeable and very friendly. They'll go the extra mile for you! Outstanding experience! I have seen various optometrists in the Southern California area for the last 40+ years and I can honestly say that Dr. Kubota is the single most thorough and communicative optometrist I have ever come across or heard of! She took the time necessary to explain to me in detail the advantage and the importance of a retinal scan, especially since I have diabetes. Besides seeing a different optometrist in the past, I've also been seeing an ophthalmologist regularly to monitor for diabetic retinopathy, but neither doctor had ever taken the time to review the details of what to be concerned with like Dr. Kubota did. It's obvious she loves her job and cares about her patients! And to think, the only reason I changed doctors is because by insurance plan changed and my old doctor was no longer in-network with my new plan. I wasn't dissatisfied with my old doctor, but in retrospect, I'm so glad for the "forced" change! In fact, my wife and kid were unaffected because they are both covered by my wife's plan, but we're going to all change to Dr. Kubota. read more

Dr Kubota is such a wonderful person and I have been going to her for around 10 years. Unfortunately the last few visits I've had were not great. The office staff has been rude when I've called and the older receptionist hung up on me mid sentence. I don't think it was on purpose but I did hear the rushed tone of her voice which is why she was quick to hang up. I had to call multiple times to catch them at a time to order contacts and I was put on hold the last call for too long so I decided I would have to order elsewhere. Whatever is going on there, it's not practical to get them on the phone unless you have a lot of time to wait. Again, this post is not to give Dr. Kubota a hard time but rather to point out that the receptionists could improve. read more

I had my appointment last week , The visit was quick and staff was friendly and on point with all the tests , all my questions were answered and they all are very knowledgeable with everything I need and never tried to push anything on me I didn't want nor need. I love the doctor. She is very competent and does not skimp and push you out until she knows she has gotten your prescription just right! The ONLY reason I am giving her a 4 is because I have never even once gone in and got called back at the time of appointment. I arrive early and always wait 45 minutes or longer after the appointment time to get called back! That's annoying and a disregard for patient's time! Once you do get called back she takes real good care of you! Someone needs to stop overbooking or something because otherwise I might have to find a new optometrist! read more

The worse experience ever. starting with the RUDE office girl to the lies that were given to me in the back office....over priced sure they get kick backs if you order your contacts from them. As a new patient I was initially put-off by having to make my way through the endless line of cars in the Starbucks drive-thru lane (& all the exhaust fumes that go with it!). The office's restroom was not in service but I was told the ones in Starbucks was okay to use. I began to second-guess my choice...we all know how important first impressions can be, right? The staff proceeded to start what turned out to be THE best and most comprehensive battery of tests I've ever had! Now I've had glasses & contacts from the age of 16 and am now nearing retirement age...I've had a couple of eye exams (read MANY)! Believe me when I tell you that despite getting off to a rocky start, my experience with Dr. Carrie Kubota far exceeded my expectations! The staff was friendly and very helpful in selecting the right frames for me; this in spite of the fact that I'd had every intention of getting my prescription then ordering online! This office is super small with just one very sweet and talkative doctor running the entire show. Having said that, they are usually on time with appointments. The first time I came here I made an appointment for 5:30 pm on a Thursday afternoon for a typical eye exam. I received a call a few hours before the exam on the day of to reschedule for me to come in a bit earlier at 5pm. That's fine, doable. I show up at 4:50pm, fill out the paperwork, and proceed to wait for an HOUR!! That was super aggravating! They were on time for all of my follow up appointments so that made up for it...I guess. I ended up flaking out on this place cuz I kept having to go back for follow up appointments (5 before I quit) and my wallet couldn't take the co-pays. -_- read more

I have been with Dr. Kubota since she was in Walmart. I remember when her girls were just 3 or 4 years-old and now they're teenagers in high school! Dr. Kubota is just the best. She always takes the time to make sure she gets your prescription right and gives you the personal attention that makes you feel like you're her only customer. Addressing those reviews that don't give her high marks because the office runs a little behind schedule, refer to my last comment. When you are in the chair with her, you'll get the same personal attention that she gave the people in front of you. Yes, it's a wait at times but not too bad for me and I have a very busy schedule. I would much rather have the small wait then to feel rushed once I'm in the chair. She gets to know her patients and that enables her to better understand their needs. The front office staff has gone through some changes over the years, but she now has the absolute best up front greeting and helping customers. Maureen took the time to show me a number of frames and gave me her honest opinion on how they looked on me. I didn't feel like she was selling something--she was genuinely helping me. I got the progressive lenses for the first time and when I finally put them on, I was a bit skeptical. I went back for a follow up and said I wasn't sure about them. Maureen said she'd do whatever I wanted to do, including replace them. I said I would try them a bit longer to see if I would adapt to them and I promised to call her back within a day or so. I kept using them and I did adapt, but I forgot to call her. About two weeks later, Maureen called me to see how they were working out for me. I call that great customer service! She's wonderful, as are all of the front office people. I highly recommend Dr. Kubota. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I have been Dr. Kubota's patient since I was in high school. She must have just graduated optometry school because she is ageless! Lol I followed her wherever her practice led her because she is so patient and kind and always remembered me as a person, not just her patient. She is straight forward, gives you all your options and takes her time with every single one of her patients. Now that I have a child who needs glasses it is comforting to see that she is still just as patient with her as she was with me and so very understanding and kind. That is why I drive from the San Fernando Valley to see her. She also keeps up with all the latest technology and has beta tested equipment and given her professional opinions on equipment used in pediatric offices to test children's eyesight. I went to Dr Kubota's office to have my eye checkup and to get a pair of Nike Flexon Glasses, one of the only optometrists in the area to carry the line. What a pleasant visit indeed. I was impressed by the professional attitude and willingness to help from all the staff. Super nice and with a great attitude!. Dr Kubota isn't a turn and burn optometrist. She took the time to talk to me about my eyesight and for a small fee took a complete 3D rendering of my eyes and gave me detailed analysis on the results. She was super nice, professional and genuinely concerned about my eyesight. There are things that make a business good and there are things that make a business great. Their service, kindness, professionalism and exemplary attitude puts them above all others that I have visited over the last 30 years of wearing glasses. The glasses did take a little longer than I would have wanted (about two weeks), but they were a special color and had to be ordered. All in all, Dr Kubota and her staff left me impressed. Love Dr. Kubota she is great. Only giving two stars because the staff is unorganized and the manager is unfriendly. This is my third time I've ordered a pair of glasses and it has took almost a month for me to receive them, completely going against the information the staff provided me that it should be ready in two weeks or less. This is also the SECOND time the company has lost a pair of glasses my sister ordered, and blamed it on the manufacture and the shipping company. Either way for the amount of money we are spending and the insurance we have it is preposterous that they are unable to provide efficient manufacturers and shipping company. Only reason why I keep going there is because of Dr. Kubota's devote professionalism and warm hospitality. Awful! Walked in only to find out the Dr. was behind schedule. Not a few minutes, but a patient or two behind. Never really got the full story because the girl behind the counter wasn't very good at communicating with me. Then while I waited, my daughter and I looked at their selection of youth eyeglasses. The selection was pretty much non-existent. I asked if they had the ability to order frames online and they said no. Family Optometry gives you that option which makes their selection almost infinite. I walked out. The office is just too small...too few frame options...staff not so nice. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Carrie since she was at Walmart. (So glad that's over). Her current staff is the best she's had. My insurance was not scheduled for new glasses until July and we are going on vacation. I have contacts but need glasses for a long plane ride. They called and got approval for month earlier. I dreaded picking frames so when I got to the office Maureen had picked some styles to see what was best for my face and nailed it. A big thank you to Maureen for the help.
