I've been a customer for three years and love this place. Yesterday I woke up with a very painful stye that was blurring the vision in my right eye. I ran over to Murata Eyecare and explained my situation. I did not have an appointment yet Dr Murata and his staff managed to squeeze me in. He drained the stye and prescribed some antibiotic drops. He checked to make sure my eye was not infected and gave me a follow up appointment in one week. My eye felt 100% better after leaving there. I simply love Dr Murata. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and really cares about his patients. read more

While Dr. Karlyn Murata and her assistant were very nice and I was happy with the eye exam, this business failed on an entirely different level. Despite me insisting when I made the appointment that they check that my insurance was actually accepted (and me insisting to check the Insurance name and ID number), they said it wasn't necessary as they already found me in their computer system. However, after the eye exam and when it was time to try on glasses they had me under the wrong insurance (and an insurance I am no longer on). Thus, essentially nothing was covered and I was left without new glasses. Despite my protestations, they chalked this up as "mistakes happen." However, I am a client and a patient whose time and money is just as valuable as theirs. I had to use my precious and valuable sick time to make and keep this appointment and yet I received nothing from it. I have to now take more time off and find a new optometrist and get new lenses/frames elsewhere. This could all have been avoided if they simply listened while making the appointment and checked the insurance information I had wanted to give them. While I appreciate that they gave me my updated prescription, this does not negate the careless regard to checking insurance nor does it negate the disregard afforded to me as a patient. I would highly recommend that if you do make an appointment with this place that you insist that they confirm they have your correct insurance information. I am very frustrated and disappointed by this business. read more

I switched to Murata Eyecare after several years of being unsatisfied with my prescription from a previous optometrist. This office is large and clean, and the staff are very friendly and personable. Dr. Karlyn is incredible - she is attentive, caring, and truly cares to understand your needs and what she can do to help you see your best. I have had lifelong nearsightedness and it's been over a decade since I've had a pair of glasses that work as well as my new pair from Dr. Karlyn. They will make you wait while they run late, they will tell you they are under staff, and they will tell you there's nothing they can do about it. I drove an hour from LA because they had such high ratings on Yelp. I think I have better choices in LA. The show room is clean and esthetically pleasing. Shiny store front, good optometrist, but lack of care in their business acumen. They mailed contact lenses to their office instead of our home, though I confirmed the delivery location and address with 2 staff members. Now, I am seeing an error (overcharge) on my FSA account and I can't reach their accounting staff. Their solution is to make me do all the work. This is getting tiring and not worth the hassle. Just had the worst customer service experience ever with whoever takes their phone calls. I was trying to set up an appt and the guy that called me back was so rude and disrespectful that I couldn't just not say something. I made an appt for an eye exam at Murata. Clean & aesthetically pleasing Office. Staff was friendly. I paid for my visit and went on my way, only to find out a couple of days later my credit card was fraudulently used. Last place I used the card was at Murata. I verified with the office and my credit card company. This was brought to the attention of the optometrist as well as the office manager, which there was no solution on their part. Quite frustrating to have dishonest & suspicious activities being done in their place of work. If you go here, I'd be on alert. In response to management: you stated that card is used in front of customer, this is not true. The employee, which I believe is your son actually stepped away to swipe my card. I can't recommend this place. First, there was a glitch in their software when setting up an appt. & when I showed up, they had no record of my appt. & had to fit me in. Second, very slow. I was in there hours. Then, my glasses were ordered April 29th & paid top dollar. This is May 21 & no glasses. I HAD to call them & they MIGHT be done May 25th! There was no follow up from them to their lab. When I called them today, nothing but excuses. They are short staffed & the lab is short staffed. This place is not a discount place. Every time I see De. Murata, I sit and try to make a list of all the people I could recommend him and his office to. I love him sooo much. From start to finish, it is always an easy and transparent experience. There have never been surprises. Everything is well explained and efficient. Dr. Murata himself has the most amazing energy. He is kind, curious, and explains everything in a really accessible way. He is also a critical thinker. The eye doctor was amazing and loved coming here, but will not be returning due to not being upfront regarding policies. Just ordered my glasses Friday after 5pm and contacted Saturday morning to cancel order to use my old frames. Got a call Monday morning that I would have to pay half of the frames and half of the lens without insurance as a restocking fee which comes out more than my original purchase because they have already been shipped to lab and started. This cancelation fee was not stated prior to purchase or when I provided my payment method. The policy was given on the back of my receipt after my purchase was already completed. I wish they communicated this policy prior to purchase so patients know all the information before they provide payment method as providing the policy on a paper after the purchase does the patient no good because the have already completed the purchase. read more

Murata Eyesore is the best! My husband and I have together seen three of the optometrists there and they are all wonderful. In addition to prescribing glasses and contacts, they also pay attention to eye health. Dr. Karlyn Murata diagnosed me with dry eyed allergies. She told me the allergy drops to use and referred me to an ophthamologist, whom I also love. The offices are modern, beautiful and sparkling clean. The doctors are friendly and knowledgable. When it comes time to picking out frames, they are honest about what fits your face and looks good and how your prescription will work for the frame you choose. I really liked that assistance. Dr Murata and his team have been caring for me since I was a child.... Patient and friendly - they've helped me navigate glasses, frames (as a young girl who was struggling to accept the need to wear glasses in the 90s), a transition to contacts, ICL as an adult to mitigate my need for lenses of any sort, and (as happens with age) my transition back to glasses for select needs. I'm happy to say that the team there now cares for my daughters and their vision. And, while some of the staff have moved on, those still there and those new to the office are all wonderful with my kids and I - patiently explaining and teaching us as each time we go. read more

I really love this optometrist. They are pricey but they have a lot of options when it comes to frames. Staff is always friendly and office is always neat, and clean. However, one issue I found recently was I ordered contacts on 05/09 & still haven't received anything yet. They did give me a spare to last me in the mean time but this is the longest I've had to wait for contacts. read more

Dr. Murata is extremely professional and extremely prepared , has a vast knowledge of issues and problems related to eyes and vision and has a vast network of retina specialists and doctors for reference for his patients . I had a potential problem that moved dr. Murata to refer me for a preventive eye surgery and two years later that surgery probably saved my left eye after an event that was supposed to make me lose that eye . Dr. Murata has also perfect bed side manners , is humble , kind and really good as explaining things and often seems to know already what questions I have and answers before I ask .
