This review is FAR overdue but that doesn't take away from the phenomenal service and repair work I had done by Carrillo and Sons. First, the woman at the front desk was incredibly kind and professional and made sure that all the paperwork and everything needed from me was a seamless and easy experience. Insurance was a breeze. Secondly, the nasty dent I had on multiple panels was repaired skillfully, and the paint match was top notch. They kept me apprised of timeline from day one and kept me regularly updated. They take immense pride in their work and made sure that I was satisfied with the work performed on my vehicle. Carrillo & Sons provides some of the best auto-related service I've ever encountered. They are thorough, forthcoming, honest, and reliable. What more could you ask for when dealing with a car repair? I was driving down the alley when a distracted dumbass neighbor backed his car right into my driver's side, t-boning me. I called my insurance, and they sent over a list of authorized repair shops where they could easily transfer over my claim. Despite being slightly further from my house, I chose this Carrillo location based on the stellar Yelp reviews. The reviews are right! I was greeted by David and Maria when I came in for an estimate. They already had my paperwork from my insurance so David was able to quickly assess the damage. While he was doing the inspection, I had a nice conversation with Maria about all kinds of things including pets. One of our cats was having a medical emergency at the time, and Maria was very sympathetic. Every time we spoke after our initial meeting, she kindly asked how my kitty was doing. I didn't know it at the time, but Maria is the owner and runs this shop with her sons. The other Carrillo location in North Park is another family member, and that shop is completely different from this one. I was provided daily updates via text, and Tony, the production manager, called me several times with updates as well. During one of those calls, I asked Tony about repairing our other old car's air conditioning and what he thought the problem could be. After describing the issue and telling him the age of the car, he thoughtfully advised me that it likely would be a bigger, costlier fix -- not something I was interested in since it's an old car that we rarely use these days. That conversation with Tony saved me serious money along with a lot of mental back and forth on if I should pursue fixing the problem. Due to parts being backordered, it took about two weeks to get our car back. Everything was repaired perfectly! The paint on the side panels matched perfectly, and every little scratch was gone. The car was cleaned outside as well as immaculately cleaned inside, too. I don't think our car has ever looked this good! Carrillo handled the entire claim with my insurer and I left without having to pay anything since the other driver was found at fault. The hardest part of the whole process was just waiting around and having to use our old, A/C-less other car for two weeks. Collision centers (aka body shops) are notorious for being scammy at worst, poorly run and coordinated at best. This is NOT the case here at all. The staff explained their process and even though they couldn't fit me into the schedule for a couple weeks, they clearly explained that it was because they could certainly intake my car, but it would just sit there untouched. I appreciated the honesty. The drop off location on Mission Gorge is quick and easy. The actual work is done over in Kearny Mesa and that's where it was picked up. I had a very positive experience with Carrillo & Sons! The other week a semi truck threw up a rock that cracked my headlight while I was driving on the freeway. After working with my insurance on getting it replaced, I decided on taking my car to Carrillo & Sons. My experience with them was fantastic from start to completion. I worked with Blayne to get my car taken care of and he was extremely friendly from the get go. Through the process of getting parts figured out, Blayne was very patient with my questions and took the time to research the necessary replacement part. When the part arrived, install time didn't take very long but they found out the used part that arrived had a different angel eye color so Blayne told me they ordered a new internal part that would match the driver side. One of the things I noticed about this shop and specifically working with Blayne was his patience with all the calls and questions I had. I never felt like I was bothering him with the calls for updates and he was always friendly on the other end. That goes a long way in my book as many shops would just rush to get the job done and move on to the next project. I picked my car up today and it looked awesome. Both the steering wheel and driver side seat had protective plastic and the floor mat was covered with paper. They even gave my car a wash! Where do start? I'm pretty sure I just had the best customer service experience of my life here. I was referred to this shop by a friend of mine because I wanted to get the "Explorer" metal decals put on the hood of my new car. I emailed the shop and the manager, Ken, emailed me back right away saying they could definitely help. Later Andrea set up the appointment for me with the gentleman that comes do work like this for them. When I showed up this morning, I was welcomed with a ton of very friendly, smiling faces. Ken came and thanked me for visiting the shop and was so awesome! They offered coffee, water, and goodies while I waited in their very cozy, comfy, waiting area. When the gentleman arrived to install them, they happened to have the same vehicle in the shop to reference the proper placement of the letters. Fernando was awesome and very careful about making sure they were on there correctly. It took less than 30 minutes and when I went to pay, they just said "Merry Christmas". What!? They didn't have to do that, and believe me I felt terrible not paying, but they did. Wow! That NEVER happens. That is customer service at its finest! What a great, family owned, shop!! Years later and Carrillo & Sons is still doing fantastic work. My first time using them was for something they don't usually handle, but this time was when my insurance company sent me over after being rear-ended. Yes, they were a preferred collision center according to USAA - that's high praise. Yep, an old fella plowed into me from behind when I was at a complete stop on the freeway a while back. Though drivable I hate having a blemed vehicle and made my way to Carrillo & Sons. The check-in process was quick and they even lined up a ride for me to get to the rental car company, which was not close. While the rental car was covered by my insurance it really wasn't needed very much. Why? Well, these dudes knocked out the work very quickly minimizing the time spent with the rental. Upon picking up my car it looked wonderful, better than it has in years. The job done on the rear bumper was absolutely flawless using only factory parts directly from the manufacturer. The finished the entire experience off with a car wash that was as good as any that I've ever paid top dollar for and the silver bullet is riding as smooth as ever. I don't wish an accident or fender bender on anyone, but if you find yourself in that terrible scenario take your rust bucket to Carrillo & Sons, stand up and honest folks in an industry dotted with questionable money-grabbers. I am vey pleased with the work but as a side view I was specially impressed with the manner in which every employee behaved. From the time I arrived the gentleman that took my keys and walked me to the front entrance every employee was willing to help. The two women in the office were very welcoming. As I sat in the wait area some of the workers asked if I wanted water or coffee. People can learn how to do body work but customer relations are a different this is the most polite and willing to help group I have ever worked with. Seven times in the forty years that I've been driving, I've had to find a body shop, the sort of business that seems either to be run by carny folk, or by princely men whose prices fund their lovely lives. The searches have always been nerve-wracking; the results, often mediocre. My new RAV4 was recently grazed by an inattentive driver in a parking lot, causing damage to my car's right rear door and quarter panel. To their credit, the man's insurance company, Explorer, had a check to me within a week. Ignoring the recommendation I got from my dealership, I turned to Yelp, and after reading reviews written by my Friends Amber Elizabeth M. and SD Community Manager Brad B., I called Carrillo & Sons Auto Collision Center. Carrillo & Sons is owned and run by Maria and her three sons: Tony Jr., David and Daniel, a family of smart, motivated and considerate people who have provided auto body repair since 1981. They first operated a shop on Adams Avenue, and seventeen years later, opened the business at its present location off Mission Gorge Road. Carrillo & Sons occupies a beautiful building, 15,000 sq. ft. of "State-certified green" facility, enough work space for 50 cars at once. Such a fine facility might lead new customers to assume that Carrillo & Sons are pricey, and of course, body work is expensive, regardless where it's done. But a quick check indicated that the company's hourly rates - posted by the shop's front desk - are in line with our City's usual and customary fees for such work. And I had Explorer's check in my pocket, along with their promise to absorb any supplemental billing. Price was not a problem. Dropping by Carrillo & Sons to find out how they would proceed, I met estimator Giovanna Villaseñor, who looked over my car's gouges, dents and scraped paint and said that though the repair wouldn't be a problem, the shop's schedule was tight, and that I'd have to wait one week to start the work, and five days for completion. I accepted that schedule, thanked "Gio" for her help, and smiled at the offer of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, one of the little touches that make Carrillo & Sons so feel so homely. Returning to drop off my car, I was greeted by Gio, Tony Carrillo and his mom, Maria. The intake paperwork was thorough but simple, and about the time my car was logged in, a driver from Enterprise Car Rental presented himself, ready to drive me to his office, where I'd pick up my loaner, compliments of Explorer. Carrillo & Sons has a relationship with Enterprise, making that piece easy. Before I left, I took a few photos, at one point ducking around the corner to look into the work area. On a whiteboard near the door, I saw a flowchart of the process the business uses to manage their work, including four quality control points. Four QC's! That, not the cookies, was the thing that made me comfortable leaving my car in the hands of these friendly strangers, without a second thought. Two days later, Gio called me with an update: my car had been repaired, and was headed to the paint shop. After that, she said, there'd be another couple of steps, the last being a clean and detail. I wrote the detail off; my dealership washes my car after they work on it, a quick shot with a hose and a sponge on the big outside metal pieces. I figured Carrillo and Sons would do the same. But again, I was wrong to assume; they truly did detail my car, providing me with the same quality of work for which I pay $150 to $200 at Body Beautiful. The job finished late on Friday afternoon, and I was tied up with work, so Tony told me to come in Saturday morning, when he'd be working. Delivery was as painless as the rest of the job had been. He walked me to my car, showed me the repaired area, laid out the terms of their warranty and answered my couple of questions. I didn't even have to return the rental; I was able to leave it with Carrillo & Sons, where Enterprise would collect it on Monday. I left, grateful to Gio, Tony and Carrillo's staff and crew, and as I told Tony, their attention to detail, commitment to quality work and positive talent for customer service all combined to make me wish they ran a restaurant, not a body shop. As it is, if you see me on the highway, please move out of my way. I'm inclined to hit you, now that I know where go to for repairs. One other note: I'm grateful to my Yelp Friends, especially Brad B. The repair process at Carrillo & Sons was a pleasure, and the results, outstanding.
