Three weeks ago, I went out for an early drive with my 2016 GT3 RS. It was still dark out and an object flew and hit my bumper causing it to crack as you can see in some of the photos I uploaded. I heard subtle sound and as I pulled off to the next exit my stomach sank seeing the damage. I quickly drove back home and contacted my friend that has a clear bra shop and he recommended Mark at Philip Thearles Autowerks. I got Marks number and gave him a call. He really helped me through the whole process and made me feel much more comfortable then what I was anticipating. Mark answered all my questions and gave me everything for the next step. Truly this was the best person to handle my situation since I do not trust really anyone. This car has been with me for 10 years and it holds a special place for me. I never dealt with this before on such an expensive vehicle. Fast forward Mark was kind enough to pick up the car, send me the estimate all within a few hours before the end of the day. He also had the bumper(main damaged area) off and checked to asses any other damage that could not be seen. He submitted everything to the insurance and I really did not have to do anything other than a phone call to my insurance and a couple emails. Following the next week the parts were ordered since the approval was done. I got text and picture updates of everything that was happening. I really appreciated this as I like to document the whole process. You really can tell Mark and his shop care about customer service and making you feel at ease. What I can say about the final end of the repair since a new bumper had to be ordered and repainted in Lava Orange. It looks like nothing happened! It looks better than Brand new. The paint matches exactly the rest of the car. Another thing that I was a bit worried but as you can see in some of the photos, you cannot tell the difference. When the car was ready I got a nice tour of the huge facility that is state of the art and they are Porsche certified! I am truly thankful for Mark and the shop getting this done within less than a month. I really do appreciate the whole process. Phil Thearle's is the finest and most professional bodyshop I've ever encountered. I pride myself on my vehicles, have done some wrenching myself and driven racetracks/rally courses. I love cars, and am thoughtful of how I choose and care for them. When my 2020 year Porsche Taycan Turbo with only 6,000 miles on it was hit... I was heartbroken. I can always spot and pick apart auto repairs... however not at Phil's. The bodywork and paint were seamless and invisible. My car was the same as or better than from factory! Chad was exceptionally detail oriented and had fantastic communication. He even took my car to the Porsche dealership to take care of some open recalls that weren't associated with the accident. I brought my 2023 Bronco in for repairs and after initial diagnosis my insurance company cut a check for $8900.00. After further investigation it was determined that the Bronco has a bent frame and is a total loss. I requested the check back so I may purchase a new vehicle and am told it needs to go to corporate for reimbursement and it will take 3 to 4 weeks. I need the money back so I can place a down payment on a new vehicle. Now I am forced to continue to incur the cost of a rental "not covered" for an additional 3 to 4 weeks. I feel they should not have cashed the insurance payment until repairs were repaired, or the vehicle was determined a loss. read more

Honest, trustworthy, and sophisticated shop that does great work. They're one of the only local collision centers certified to work on a variety of German brands (like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche). If you have a late model German car in need of repair after a collision, you definitely want a shop with that expertise and certification. You might think this would mean they are rip-off artists. Instead, they have been extremely candid with me when minor issues could be resolved with polish or touch-up and didn't need to be serviced by them. By building goodwill with me through those interactions, they earned my business for repair of our German cars (which inevitably seem to get dinged up, backed into, etc.). Further, the detail shop that applied the ceramic coat to my car after Philip Thearle's performed repairs and re-painted portions of it let me know they noticed whatever body shop I had gone to had done excellent work with the paint. That same detail shop observed that many of their clients, almost all of whom have high end German and Italian cars, come to them after shoddy paint work from collision centers. I noticed some customers complaining about delays, and I suspect that simply had to do with part shortages out of Philip Thearle's control during pandemic times. Everyone was having difficulty getting import parts during that time, and they were probably advised that could be an issue. That's not on the shop; it was just an undesirable set of conditions we all had to tolerate. Bottom line: this is the spot to go to. read more

Let me start by saying that Dan & his team did an absolutely amazing detail on my black accord! Now let me tell you my not so fun adventure prior to taking my car to Philip Thearle's. I had scratches from the front bumper to the rear caused by driving too close to bushes down a dirt road. I took my car to 2 different auto body shops & was told I would have to have my car repainted (about $3000). I drive by Philip Thearle's on my work route, so I figured it wouldn't hurt having them take a look. I'm glad I did! Dan said, "That'll buff out." The employee I worked with, Chad, was so friendly and helpful. He answered all of my questions and was so pleasant to talk to. Serviced my vehicle last week and found out these people completely over sprayed the under-carriage of my vehicle. The rear differential is covered in paint. That's what $30,000 in repairs gets you. Overspray, Chipped bumper paint, and crappy customer service and management. Should I mention the automatic trunk lid stopped working? Not even worth my time taking it back. Wouldn't even let them touch my $100,000 car with a 10 foot pole. Stay away this place is horrible. read more

My family and I have brought and will only continue to bring our cars here for any type of body/collision work. Simply put, PTAW is the best. They've worked on our BMWs, Toyota, and most recently my wife's Lexus. The damage her car sustained was from a log hitting the front end and dealing damage to the whole grille area. Luckily that was the only damage. PTAW restored it to new with OEM parts, and also replaced a trim because of a manuf. defect in the trim, a part they replaced to begin with, but didn't realize there was a defect to it. I worked with Aaron Hough and he's really easy to deal with. I reduced a star because my car had 11 more miles than it did when I brought it in, so it's not like the facility is 5.5 miles long each way; apparently there's a Porsche owner that had the same experience with someone taking his car for use too. Other than that, PTAW does excellent collision work and I wouldn't trust anyone else in San Diego for it. Just remember to take a picture of your mileage in and out and you're good. read more

We brought in a front end fender bender to our Mercedes and was told 2 weeks possibly 3. They told us they would handle everything with the insurance but after many many of our calls and prompting one week shy of 3MONTHS. One of our calls after nearly 80 days they finally said all the work was finished but wouldn't let us have the car back because they were waiting for another check from the insurance. After having to prompt them to follow up with the insurance co. and waiting for nearly 3 month they wouldn't even return the car to us with a full tank. Over $10,000 they billed the insurance you would think they would have treated us much better having kept. our car for nearly 3 months. Very disappointed. read more

Generally good repair service. Take 1 star off since my Porsche 718 was taking out for test drives of 23 miles during the repair. The mileage in was __567 and out at __590. The service advisor didn't hide the fact from me: one service staff drove it to Grossmont college and back, then another staff took it to Kearny Mesa. Had my wifes Corvette fixed by them recently. The car was completed, but they would not release it to us because they said the insurance company still owed them $263. My wife was leaving on a trip and needed her car, so we paid the $263 out of pocket and Autowerks said they would reimburse us once they got paid. 4-weeks later and multiple phone calls and still no money. They had my car in there for 3 weeks and were very nice .I just brought my car to Mercedes dealer and they said my Mercedes deal said someone put in the wrong Bolts there not Mercedes ?????? Plus they never put my Brake reservoir cap back on ??????? I was rear ended in October and Wawanesa and AAA both recommended this body shop. I called and they offered to tow my car from my home to their shop. As I walked in, I was greeted by a lovely receptionist. Very kind, sweet and friendly. After signing some paperwork, I was escorted to a blue golf cart, where the estimator took me on a tour of the facility (which is huge!) and over to my car. He gave the car a visual inspection and told me what to expect. I noticed they had a lot of high end cars being worked on! They have a Hertz rental onsite, and they set me up with a rental car pretty quickly. Got lucky and scored a free upgrade to an SUV with Sirius Radio! I especially like that they will text or email updates on your car's progress. Throughout my car's stay (and ultimate final resting place...it was deemed a total loss - sniff sniff), the staff was very accommodating and friendly, and kept me in the loop at all times. I truly appreciated their customer service, and although I can not comment on the actual work they do on the cars themselves, they provided the estimate to my insurance company within a day. read more
