My brother died, and I'd driven down from the San Francisco Bay Area to take care of winding up his estate. There was a lot to do just with cleaning out his rental house and cleaning up his very precarious financial situation. I'd received a list of mortuaries from the Medical Examiner's office and had picked Carrillo's because it was convenient to the hotel I was staying. I made an appointment with April and met with her. As we discussed the options, I started becoming a little concerned about the costs. This was mostly because there weren't going to be any viewings or other full-service requirements. I just needed a quick and simple cremation and a death certificate to be able to wind up my brother's affairs. I shared this with April. I asked her straight up whether there were any more affordable options given that I needed a minimum of services. She was very frank and let me know that Carrillo's was about the middle of the pack pricewise for what I needed. I thanked her and asked if I could make a couple of calls. I was flabbergasted when she not only wrote out a list of who she knew was more affordable, but she also started calling them on my behalf. She got me a quote that was significantly less and tailored to just what I needed. I'm so grateful for her help in reducing my level of stress, saving me money, and more importantly saving me an enormous amount of time. That level of customer care for someone who isn't even a customer speaks volumes. It speaks of her and her team's compassion for and empathy with those who have suffered a great loss. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this funeral home. During such a painful time as the loss of a loved one, the last thing you need is to feel that they only care about money. From the beginning, the staff showed a lack of empathy and understanding, prioritizing costs and payments over our emotional and logistical needs. Their insensitive attitude and lack of support forced us to transfer our father to another funeral home that demonstrated the respect and compassion we expected. My mother in Law passed away, my wife is the only living immediate family member alive. My wife (Mini's daughter) and Mini's sister Irene are only living family members so my understanding is Mini's daughter is the person who decides the arrangements. Well Aunt Irene called Carrillo's before my wife arrived to nursing home where Mini passed away at. So we didn't want to rock the boat and went with Carrillo's. Aunt Irene and my wife decided to pay half and half for cremation and services. Well Aunt Irene with her typical controlling personality had a temper tantrum over ashes or something? Called Carrillo's to ask for her $1,500 back, we were told no refunds, well they refunded Aunt Irene no problem. We requested a short private visit with Mini before she was to be cremated, April said "absolutely we could private visit", but when we called to set up day to visit? April informs us that Mini has already been cremated! What??? After we specifically asked for this visit, we watched April write it down! We then decided, we will pay for cremation but will not be using Carrillo's for services. We requested $1,000 back and $1,000 for Carrillo's to keep for cremation of Mini's remains. Carrillo's wanted us to pay another $300 for God knows what? After dropping the ball BIG TIME!!! My wife and I were besides ourselves with disappointment and finally came to an agreement where Carrillo's refunded $350 out of $2,000 we had paid them. We just couldn't believe the unthinkable mistake they made, and greed on top of that mistake, we were just done with Carrillo's... read more

I spoke with the owner re: a break in into one of the vehicles with money stolen while we were paying respects to our beloved family member who recently passed ---the night it happened there were 2 young ladies (employee's of mortuary) who were there to provide service (?) and to observe the premises (I guess) and they noticed a person in the parking lot but they apparently did not confront him or let those of us inside know about this this individual stalking the area. A family member saw the culprit break into the car and gave chase. We scoured the area for 30-40 minutes after contacting the police. We later identified the guy at a Circle-k about 5-7 miles away, called the police and he was arrested The next day I insisted on speaking with the owner re: this situation. In essence he stated, in so many words, that essentially he is not responsible for providing a safe environment for Attendees or their property, including vehicles oarked on HIS property/parking lot. I informed him that we had just spent over $9,000 for his company's services and had also spend another $9,000 5 months prior for services for the wife of the decedent whose life we were there to give homage to. He asked, "what do you want me to do"? I told him that he should give notification to person utilizing his derived that he is not responsible to their "customers" and their valuables, including their car, so that the customer can make other arrangements (ie, we could have had a family member guard every 20-30 minutes on a rotating basis our property since he wasn't willing to)----he flatly denied that he would/could do this. I informed him that his attitude was unacceptable and that our family had lived in the Tucson area over 100 years and over this time we have always used this mortuary that we would not on the future---they may care about the dead more than they do the living. In my opinion they are more concerned about squeezing as much money out of the community (especially the Latino community that is their primary source of referrals) than in paying some person 10-13 dollars an hour for 3-4 hours of work to provide security to us and our property.use this companies services at your own risk ---if they don't care about you what does that say about caring for your vices one who just died. Called Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary as my family member died of Covid. Josh answered the phone and responded politely to my questions. They were respectful and kind to us as a grieving family. Carrillo's is family owned and perform their own cremations which was important to us that this service was not contracted out to another facility. Our contacts were Josh and April. I went to Carrillo's not to use their funeral services, but to obtain an interview for a class that I am currently attending at ASU. April (General Manager) kindly set aside time to spend with me, answer all of my questions, and show me around the facilities. She was very down-to-earth, calm and humane, so I could only imagine that in the situation of a family death, they would be a wonderful place to go. Did you know that they don't work for commissions? Very important point for my personal decision-making. After 45 minutes I am convinced that Carrillo's would be the optimal location for funeral services. read more
