I purchased coverage for 2015 Silverado around $100/month, had issues with vehicle and had repair claim started by my normal service garage, waited 52 minutes on hold to be denied coverage CarShield rep flip flopped on phone repeatedly and contradicted himself whenever required to avoid paying for the claim because it was not a cheap repair but as a customer if you pay for a service you should expect the provider to provide as all of their advertising claims they help so many people. Waste of money. I got a quote for a 2011 Silverado with 100,000 miles. They quoted me at $129/month with a $100 deductible. The salesman could tell that I wasn't at all interested, so he went as low as $89/month. He said the average cost of repairs is $1,000, which sounds about right. At $129/month, I'd spend $1,000 after just under 7 months when you factor in the $100 deductible. My truck isn't gonna go to the shop every 7 months. It just won't. Even if I neglected it, but I take very good care of it. What about major repairs? Say $2,700 for a new transmission, which is what I spent on my Ram a few years ago. That would take 2 and a half years even at the discounted rate of $89/month. In 2 and a half years, I'd drive about 30,000 miles. Not even a Dodge transmission needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles. So it just takes a little math and common sense to see that this service is a total waste of money, AS LONG AS YOU SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY, as a very prominent southern-accented financial guru on the radio would encourage you to do. So don't waste your money on car shield. Now about that salesman... I'm not the kind of guy who will just hang up on you when you start to annoy me (although that's exactly what I ended up doing this time). I understand working on commission. After watching Ice-T doing all the Car Shield commercials on TV, I decided I should purchase a policy on my 2009 Mustang GT. I had a contract with a different extended warranty company years ago and had no problems with that company so I thought Car Shield must really be good if they were all these commercials were saying. The first thing that drew a red flag with me when I decided to buy a Car Shield policy is how they didn't have any mechanism to make you prove the mileage you reported on your vehicle was accurate. (With the other company, I actually had to sign an affidavit and have it notarized). After a few months a part that controls the heater & air conditioners functions (air door actuator located under the dash) went bad. When I told the service manager at the Ford dealership I bought my car from and who does all my maintenance work, that I had Car Shield he smirked. I asked him was that good. He said no. He told me that Car Shield, for one thing, often would only approve of old used parts, didn't want to pay the regular labor rates, and generally were very difficult to deal with. Based on this less than stellar review, I decided I would call Car Shield and cancel my policy. That is where they turned me off completely. The Car Shield representative I spoke with on the phone was a COMPLETE jackass! I tried to be nice and tell him that I was cancelling because of financial/budget considerations, so he tried to offer me some alternatives to cancelling. When I declined his offers, he got pissed and told me that I should have told him that before he "wasted his time" trying to get me a better deal with his supervisor. This knucklehead had the nerve to get irate with me because I said I still wanted to cancel! The conversation became an argument about who was "disrespecting" whom and I was literally SCREAMING into the phone telling this dude that he was the one being disrespectful because this was about MY money and MY choice to cancel or not, and he, instead of respecting that, had turned it into an argument! I had to damned near cuss this dude out to get him to stop trying to argue with me! After about 5 minutes of running my blood pressure through the roof, he finally relented and said he was cancelling the policy, as I had asked him to do in the first place. At the end of the conversation, he had the audacity to ask me to consider Car Shield in the future -- or some such. I was screaming mad by this time and I told him, in no uncertain terms, that I would NEVER, because of him, consider doing business with Car Shield again! I don't know what the dude's name was but he was at their St. Charles, MO. office. I signed up, approx March of this year. I was and have been paying on the policy regularly, I was past due at one particular point I had the impression that I was truly cared for. i countinued on my payments. and when I needed the policy coverage for a transmission issue. I went to my mechanic of choice. the very day I dropped the car off, I receive a call from the mechanic telling me that I had some sort of block on my policy. unsure, because I believed I was current, I called in to ask questions without my knoledge, my policy was voided, and I was still paying. also without confermation, they claimed that they returned two payments on June 11. I went to my bank history to see if I did, in fact, receive any refunds. I did, receive one payment. they then told basically, that I was S.O.L., from that point on. in order to sustain coverage, I would need to restart with a new policy. I explained my differences. i was put on a very long hold. and the supervisor then said nothing could be done from that point on. so now I have a car that in their eyes will have pre-existing issues, and I'm out on the value of one of my prior payments. so, I suffer because 3 different reps told me lies months ago according to the supervisor that spoke to me after the long wait time. now I'm paying for a car that has not been covered, I truly fell like I am alone on this. At the end, I said thank you but I'm not interested. That's when Edmund became aggressive. He said people always say they're not interested but if a $1000 repair came up they would want this service. I said I wasn't interested 10 times (I counted!). He still wouldn't accept that I didn't want their service. He then went into how little it cost: $17 a month. I'm not interested. He said Car Shields negotiating experts" can get lower prices. Highly doubtful. The end result is this is a scam that will hook you up with mechanics for $17 or $24 a month but you still will have a repair bill. So i have carshield. The custimers service i would say has been amazing in the begining. But when my car a issue i spoke with a gentleman who spokenwith the suoervisor and he stated that my toll was approved for reimbursment. I sent a recieot thqt they gave me to the carshield email. They said they needed a invoice. I tols the toll cpmpany which is a mom pop toll company and they said they inly give recieps car info and ammount that they charged. When i called again i was told it was approved. Over a minth later after getting my car fix i called to ask about the reimbursment for my rental and toll. CarShield is a scam and a bunch of unethical liars. Several employees told me I had coverage on my vehicle repair and that I was past my 20 day waiting period and was ok to move forward. In good faith, I made financial decisions due to the information their representatives gave me. Later, they denied my repair claim after the work started and after several days of vehicle rental charges had built up. That time cannot be rescinded nor can the work and expense be undone. CarShield took my money in exchange for coverage on a 5 year old used vehicle. When it came time for them to come through with the repairs they made excuses. They said the claim was denied because the bad part they previously said was covered, was a "preexisting condition". Even though, I started witnessing the problem when I made the claim. Let me break this down for you. When you decide to cover a 'used' vehicle everything is "preexisting". That's the difference between "used" and "new". Why would I need coverage for a car that can never malfunction? This is the point of your existance. ZERO coverage and Zero claim payments were paid out leaving me with a very large bill. CarShield is a total scam. I paid CarShield $99.99 for a year with a policy that was intended to cover repairs of any kind and to be completed by the service station of my choice. I was told that CarShield dealt with all automotive stations in NC. DO NOT BELIEVE CarShield! When I needed an alternator replaced, I tried calling to initiate a claim, CarShield would place me on eternal hold, then either disconnect/hang-up. This happened repeatedly and on 3/20/2023, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Either they reimburse me for the $602 alternater and serpentine belt or refund the $1,199 I paid for a policy to cover repairs! Basically, I gave CarShield money for nothing and I ended up paying for my repair anyway. CarShield swindles money via automatic payments too! My daughter's transmission in her Cadillac SRX started slipping 8-months after getting car shield. The Cadillac dealership said it was a bad torque converter. Car shield sent in a 3rd party inspector to inspect the car. His result was it was damaged due to excess fluid in the transmission. IT'S A SEALED TRANSMISSION!!! The Cadillac dealership head mechanic stated on his report that the 3rd party inspector checked the fluid after they went for a test ride which caused the fluid to expand due to heat and resulting in a false reading. After faxing over the report to car shield and the head mechanic from Cadillac speaking with a supervisor from car shield, they still denied our claim. To whom it may concern, I have had to shell out over $4k for a transmission on my "covered" Tahoe. After almost 3 months (2 of which I paid for coverage that was bullshit and misleading advertising at best) of sitting at the shop I have paid for my own repairs, no thanks to Car Shield, or Auto Shield, or whatever contractor/3rd party entity is being utilized at any given time. Not only did this company sell me a bill of goods that is worthless, but CS cost me time and money I didn't have in the first place. Not to mention I have been without my vehicle because of the ineptitude of it's affiliates. The customer service on its face was friendly and accommodating, yet nothing really ever goes beyond that point. See, when selling an aftermarket warranty, you should disclose the breadth of the meaning of "preexisting conditions" more thoroughly to the consumer. Unfortunately in my case, with 250,000 miles on my vehicle, ANYTHING can be filed under such a category. When I attempted to cancel my policy upon realizing this, I was convinced to stick it out a few more days...just long enough for the second payment on my policy to clear, after which my situation was stretched out for almost another month. During the course of that second month, my claim was reopened due to a "typographical error" of the transcription between the 3rd party inspector and the adjuster; a crucial point I might add, which served as the catalyst for the initial denial and subsequent reopening of my claim. An oil leak is not a transmission leak, and had the inspector had the common sense to pull a dipstick, all of what transpired henceforth could have been avoided. As well, had the transcriber possessed better literary skills, the case could have been concluded 2 months ago and I might still be a customer. Be that as it may, such was not the case. And so a second teardown of my vehicle was ordered with the new inspection which rendered my vehicle inoperable. It drove just fine before the second inspection. I know because I drove it home when my claim was initially denied. So in a nutshell, the purchase of a policy with CarShield was a terrible decision that cost me time, transportation, and more money than I'd have spent just getting it done without the "help." Not only am I not renewing my policy, I am going to be a loud voice in advocacy against shams like this who take advantage of people just trying to make ends meet. Fortunately I didn't have kids to feed, I am the only recipient of this ripoff. Please remove all of my information from your system. Stop calling me and stop sending me emails constantly reminding me that my payment is past due on coverage that never truly existed. (Fool me once...) As of 3/21/19 update to my original post about Carshield....my Cadillac Escalade is ready for me to get it out the shop. Carshield finally sent in payment. The problem is that Car Shield only paid 1500.00 & im left with paying 3,000 out of pocket! My truck had thrown a rod....& they only wanted to replace the 1 rod. The problem with that is that all the rods needs to be replaced @ this point so this because if not this will be a continuous problem. And once my service adviser told their rep this, they began arguing over the phone....(PROFESSIONALISM @ ITS BEST)...so @ the end of the day I waited from Jan. The 7th 2019 to March 21st......to have to pay 3000. I will be speaking with a lawyer & I will be looking for another warranty company.
