They can always find what I need!!! Today I went in for 1 bolt that wasn't included with the item I bought elsewhere. Jason is the best!!! He found what the instructions said I needed (standard size) but when I tried to use the bolt it wouldn't work!!! I went back and Jason figured out the directions were wrong and I needed metric size. It worked perfectly!! Super service and everyone is so friendly and helpful! So much better than trying to find someone to help you at Home Depot or Lowe's!!! Best hardware store in town!! read more

I've called or gone to this store several times, with similar experiences every time. Yes, they have lots of stuff. Unfortunately, they have no idea what most of it is for. If you know what your looking for, you'll have to teach their employees about it before they can tell you if they carry it. They should hire outside of the tattoo and XXX scene they are surrounded by. read more

I am remodeling my home and I have to say how disappointed I am with Carter Bros. ACE HARDWARE. I have tried multiple times now to purchase items thru them...the whole buy local thing. Not one time have they had what I needed. I understand that everybody doesn't always have everything all the time but the items I've needed weren't odd ball or hard to find things. Its very frustrating when you try to buy local time and time again and end up every time having to go to national stores. Just sayin' read more

This place is cool. Knowledgeable staff especially Jason. Good inventory. I used to work as a cashier at Lowe's and had a corporate experience there that soured me on box stores. I suppose I have only myself to blame. After all, I did walk into a hardware while being an unaccompanied female. And the good lord knows ladies don't know anything. So I walk in and ask the first employee that I see if they carry front license plate mounts (exact words). "What do you want it for?" Barbecuing babies! What do you think I want it for? After this exchange happens TWICE he tells me they don't have any. So I ask where is their wire? "Why are doing this anyway?" Because Nevada state law dictates that you have a license plate on the front of your car. "No it doesn't." So I got harassed, and was given WRONG legal advice. I left at that point explaining that I was going to spend my money at a store that doesn't require you to justify your purchases. Thanks Harbor Freight! It was really awesome to walk in, ask where the mounts were and when informed that they don't carry them, be directed to the wire without having to argue about my purchase. I recommend that any women that don't feel like they need Dear Old Dad checking their reasoning to spend their money elsewhere. read more

I regret having to give Carter Bros. a 1 star rating, but they deserve it...and less. Being new to Reno, I wanted to patronize a local family owned hardware store, and I drove out of my way to patronize this one. BIG mistake. The cashier/clerk failed to correctly complete my transaction, failing to include my "frequent buyer" ID, and he said he would have the error corrected promptly. No big deal, right? When after 48 hours I had not heard from said clerk, I called and was told by the clerk himself, that the system was unavailable to him and he was too busy the next day to address his error. This is where the fun begins. I made another call a few days later, and spoke with another clerk who ultimately disconnected our call. When I called back, less than 2 minutes after the previous call, I was told the person I was talking to was "on his break", and he could not talk with me,because to interrupt his break was unlawful!!! I then asked to speak to the owner, and left a message asking him to please call me. The owner never called, and it was again my follow up that brought me into contact with one of the Carter Bros. I explained the situation to him, and expected he would take care of it. WRONG AGAIN! A week later, after being badgered by the clerks that answered the phone when I followed up (I expect by now I have developed a reputation.) I was told this was NOT THEIR PROBLEM! I asked again to speak with Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter did not reurn my calls and numerous requests to speak with him UNTIL I contacted Ace Corporate and explained my situation and disdain with how I was being treated. When I finally spoke with Mr. Carter (who called me AFTER my call to corporate) he was rather standoffish and somewhat less than apologetic for the treatement I received. He was also rather arrogant in his demeanor, stating that corporate was nothing more than a supplier, and they had no bearing or sway over how he ran his store. The consistant thing in my experience with this store was the extremely poor communication and regard for customer service...from the owner on down. I seriously doubt I will take the time to patronize this store again. Family owned or not. Shame. read more

I needed a few (3 to be exact) screws just a little while ago, it's Sunday at 5:16 pm now, so it was maybe 4:55 and I walked in, past the guy at the register and another employee who was standing near the top of the steps that I went down in order to get 3 screws. I wasn't down there a minute when the guy who was standing there told me, "actually, we're closing in a few minutes" and I had in my hand one of the screws I needed & was going for the other two as I replied "So what, you want me out of here right now? He said "Preferably" so I put the screw back and as I was walking out, four more people were coming down the steps, and he told them he was closed, this is just as I said "You should've said something to me when I came in then. I'm not really sure what his answer was, something like he didn't see me or whatever. Just outside, the other people were not real happy either and were saying how that usually if you're inside before closing time, they'll let you get what you need when it's just a simple item. What happened to all of this BS about supporting small local business' in the Mid Town area that was being said about the stores when they were all starting up around there? As a REAL local, not the one's who just moved here a few years back and started some shop in "Mid Town" I have lived here in Reno for about 48 years now and I don't mind helping to support local shops over the big chain stores. And I've been doing just that every time I needed something from the hardware store, plus checked out a few of the food places because we did a lot of concrete work in, and around most of the places down there the last few years. So I'll say this, the food joints are over rated as well as over priced and to Carter Bros. Hardware who's store I've been to dozens of times now "Screw You Too! I'll go to Home Depot again from now on! Way to go Mid Town with all the phony crap, the biggest impact I've seen is how none of you seem to know or care what a parking space is, like the pizza joint that opened not long ago on Center street, had a whole parking lot and covered it over with pavers and a small tree, no place to park a car at all now! While moving I found myself running to Home Depot about 9 times for stuff when this Ace hardware was right down the street from me. Finially, I decided to give this place a shot since all I needed was a smaller screw. When I walked through the door, I was instantly surprised, they had EVERYTHING. I felt like a fool for not going there before, not only is their selection large but they have many different types of things to choose from. I was completly shock, the customer service was great and its locally owned so thats even better. I will never go anywhere else again. To top it off I had my father was with me, who is a hard to impress man. He has worked around tools his whole life, he was even impressed. I will direct everyone I know here and remember ALWAYS SUPPORT LOCALLY! read more

+100 for great service, product knowledge and in stock product that the orange guys didn't have. i needed a kinda strange size plumbing part to fix an air compressor, started at the orange store, and just got the run around and blank stares. stopped by carter bros, parked right in front, and was greeted at the door by someone who really seemed to care and who actually knew what i was talking about. some one quickly took me to the EXACT right place and helped me get EXACTLY what i needed. while i headed up to the register, the person who had helped me radioed up the part numbers and counts, so when i got there, everything was ready to go. i was out the door in maybe 5 minutes, with EXACTLY what i needed, all that and a thank you for $1.89 i will start there first from now on read more

GREAT STORE! This is what a hardware store should be! Dont let the size of the outside of the building fool you. With the full basement this store has a lot more inventory than it looks like from the street. It also has a friendly and POLITE staff. And prices far more reasonable than you would expect from a home town type store. read more

Once again these folks were awesome. I walked in the door with a list of unrelated items and the fellow who greeted me grabbed a basket and found everything within minutes. He was helpful and once I was checked out he took everything to the car for me AND said thanks, see you again soon. And he will. This is help the old fashioned way and I love it. read more
