We were recommended Cartograph for their Pinot Noirs from our wine club winery around the corner. We had some time to kill and why not try some more wines? We didn't have reservations and they were nice to take us in. They even let our dog in since it was raining outside. Service was great! Such friendly people here! Pinots are not our favorite wine type but they had some pretty good ones. We ended up buying a bottle to take home and drink! read more

My friend from L.A. was up for my 65th bday and we had some time to kill before dinner....so we strolled around Healdsburg square....and a block off the square was this tasting room that we couldn't see into 'cuz of the tinted windows but luckily staff came out and invited us in....great marketing move!!...it was the first weekend of barrel tasting and soooo many big named tasting rooms were packed w peeps....i love the smaller rooms as they normally have smaller production and pay more attention to detail....as is the case w Cartograph.... To start with the winemaker is from Minnesota, which is where i'm from and so they get plus points for that!!! ya shur ya betcha....ok, so let's start with their riesling....ach du liebe!! wonderful nose, floral, minerality, and bone dry....fabulous!!....next up the gewurz...big n fruity...you might almost say sweet but its really just the nose....great mid-palate and a dry finish...most excellent with the pad thai that we had later that evening!!! my fave was the 2014 Perli Vineyard Pinot....mmmm....some old world nose but not overpowering...spicy light pepper, dark cherry notes...unique and is totally drinkable by itself but would lend itself so nicely to the bbq pork tenderloin i made the other nite.... they are small production and so prices are reasonable for premium wine...do yourself a favor and try/buy Cartograph wines....you'll thank me for it!! read more

Cartograph will forever be my favorite go to for amazing pinots in Healdsburg. Being that it is primarily Zin/ bigger wine land in the area these guys definitely stand out. Their pinots are always delicate/ beautiful, with the only bad thing I can say about them being, with that they can get pricey! Recently was there for a private tasting for a girlfriends birthday and they were as always a pleasure. Alan the wine maker is so knowledgeable and was happy to answer the groups questions. I first met Alan, the Winemaker/co-owner, shortly after he moved from MN to SF to pursue his dream of winemaking. We've stayed in touch ever since, and I've selected his wines for several of my wine club shipments. So to see the success of this fellow entrepreneur is inspiring. They've just taken a big step up with their sleek new tasting room. Ask about the private table in the back, suitable for groups up to 10, from the looks of it. Or take your tasting as you sit looking out the front window and watch the fashionista tourists mix with the local grapegrowers. Or sink into one of the modern couches and taste there. Of course you can always just belly up to the bar, like at any other tasting room. But why be in such a hurry? And the wines. Single-vineyard pinots are the headliners here, as well as a surprisingly crisp rose of pinot noir. The Gewurz is well worthy of note, and fans of the grape will be impressed. Given that only 4% of wine sold in America is over $20, these wines are pricey by comparison, but well within the price range for today's pinots. Stylistically, Alan and Serena prefer that the wine express its place of origin, letting the fruit take the lead with oak in the supporting role as the spice cabinet. read more

As a wine club member, they personalize all of our letters with shipments - they remember the smallest details we mention at the tasting room months later - that goes a long way. Their Pinot Noir options are out of this world. 2017 777 is delicious and their Transverse 2015 gives the 777 a run for it's money. Alan and Serena have created a very sleek and modern tasting lounge located just a block off the downtown Healdsburg plaza. As a local who has followed Alan and Serena for years, I seriously question the negative reviews. I've always been treated like family, and have never been rushed through any of my tastings. I wish they were friendlier to industry. Tasting fee only waived if you work in a Napa or Sonoma tasting room. I work for a company with wineries in both counties (and don't make much more than TR staff) but nope, not good enough! Don't think they give an industry discount on bottle purchases either. I'm the type that would spread the gospel wide & far if I had a good experience, but the corporate feel (1 - despite the small production they tout as the reason for no discounts and 2 - ewww, plastic name tags!) and rote talking points from our host make me want to do the exact opposite. In response to Serena's reply: Other very small production wineries waive tasting fees... do you really get THAT many industry visitors you couldn't do the same? As for name tags, my suggestion is to skip them all together! read more

I'm absolutely in love with the beautiful Pinots they have! I went there last week to get a couple of bottles of Rosé (which by the way, is the most delicious Rosé I've ever had) and Tara poured me 2015 Pinot Noir from Saltonstall vineyards. It is located near Petaluma (Petaluma Gap AVA). And I instantly fell in love with this wine! I'm very sensitive to sulfates but I've never had any sort of reaction from Cartograph Wines. It was a great indication for me that I should be in the Cartograph Circle and now I am! Tasting room is always very clean and staff is very friendly, professional, always great to talk to. They know what they are doing and talking about when it comes to wine. This is by far one of my favorite places to be and my favorite Pinot Noirs and Rosés to drink! read more

I absolutely loved my tasting experience at Cartograph! I was visiting this past weekend and was just strolling around the plaza. I went with two other friends and we were recommended this place by another tasting room on the plaza. We were not disappointed! We tried the Pinots and we loved them! Serena was so attentive to us, even though the bar was pretty busy. She explained each wine to us and really took the time to get to know us. I appreciate the time and attention she gave us. The tasting was a great value for the price. I loved the atmosphere as the sun was streaming in and everything was bright and blue. It's folks like Alan and Serena that make wine tasting such an enjoyable past-time. I've been enjoying Alan's wines since back in the day when he was the "Cellar rat" and it's been fantastic to see the vision of these two fantastic people realized in such a great space! My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting over the weekend, it was a slow Sunday afternoon, but we actually caught them on the tail end of a group that had reserved their private room (which looks amazing!) We were graciously greeted by Deb and immediately had glasses of Rose in hand, straight from the tap! This is a go-to wine for us as we usually end up ordering it whenever it's on the menu at our local favorites. We then enjoyed a sip of Gewurtz, we had just enjoyed a bottle of 2010 with homemade green curry a couple weeks ago and the wine was wonderful! I could go on and on about the wine, it's all fantastic! Alan truly shines in the Pinot Noir department, showing restraint and a delicate touch that gives the wine a sense of place rather than trying to force it into a boring, uninteresting style. The tasting space is modern and fresh! Warm grey walls allow the artwork to "Pop" and currently there is an exhibition of fantastic photographic work by Damon Mattson. It was a pleasure to wander away from the bar and enjoy the space. a nice modern couch and separate areas in the tasting room allow you to relax with your wine and let your cares just melt away. A great set list on the Sonos keeps the mood lively and relaxed. Being born and raised in the wine country I can be very picky about where I wine taste and where I recommend friends visiting the wine country to wine taste. That being said, Cartograph is one of my go to tasting rooms in Healdsburg! I can not say enough good things about this place! First of all, the wines are outstanding through and through. They specialize in Pinot and I could drink the Floodgate every day, they are all amazing! Not to mention the rose and gewürztraminer are both dry, incredible whites that I love to enjoy in the summer. You really can't go wrong with any of them! The staff at Cartograph is an outstanding team who go above and beyond in their tasting room to make you feel welcome and accommodated. I met Serena at a business function, and since I was wine tasting with my mom in the square I wanted to come and try out Cartograph. My mom was visiting from out of town and her favorite wines are Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer. Perfect! I had never heard of Cartograph before. So glad I know about these wines now! The tasting room is just off the square - perfect location for all those visiting Healdsburg. What a great space they have put together! It is very modern, clean lines, slate blue and grey color theme with silver accents. It just seems like a cool place to hang out with friends over a glass of wine. The tasting had a Gewurztraminer, a Pinot Rose and some different single vineyard Pinot Noirs. They were all very good! The Gewurtz is a dry - not sweet - style. The Rose was really nice. The Pinots were all good, each one a little different. I found their wines to be very balanced and easy to drink. I could enjoy with food or easily sip on its own. Serena did our tasting and was wonderful as she walked us through each wine. We also got to meet Alan while we were there. He was very friendly and writes up a great wine description. You can stand by the bar and try some of the first keg wine available from a tasting room in Healdsburg (often poured by one of the two wine makers- Alan or Serena), or you can bask in solace and watch the world go by in the window seats. Unfortunately upon our arrival we were very rudely asked to leave. We were a party of 7 (only 6 were tasting) and the associate couldn't accommodate us. I understand we are a big party however we were in no rush and other shops accommodated is. We even explained we would wait while she helped other customers but she wouldn't have it and asked us if we would like to split up leaving 3 people to explore town and come back for their tasting. Shout out to Todd - the most knowledgable wine expert in all of Healdsburg. We had the good fortune of coming in during a lull in the middle of a Sunday. We had the tasting room to ourselves and were able to pick Todd's brain at our leisure. If anyone has seen the movie Somm, we got a crash course in the "Theory" section of the test (and some notes about taste molecules after a few glasses). While learning a good deal, we were also treated to some great wines! We ended up with a Gewürztraminer but had our eye on a couple others as well. The tasting room does not have the vineyard views of some other Healdsburg options, but it is definitely worth the trip. They have later hours available than other tasting rooms which makes it a great pre-dinner spot. The label also has a great story behind it that you can hear about during your pours. read more

This place is totally chill! We came here initially to taste wine but after trying the 2 white wines (Gewurtztraminer & Riesling) we decided to buy glasses of wine instead. I have done wine tasting all over Healdsburg and NEVER been treated so rudely. I am a member at one of the local wineries and when I brought out of state friends tasting, they gave my group tasting cards for Cartograph (2 for 1 tasting), mind you...these cards are given out to other wineries by Cartograph as referral cards to get customers to come in...this specific staff member Erica Bemheimer immediately approached our group, pushing another staff member out of her way in the process, she then snatched our referral cards and told us she would not honor them. She was very loud and extremely abrasive, everyone in the tasting room, including the staff, turned to stare at us because she was practically shouting in our faces. This was embarrassing to say the least. This woman should not be in customer service! We left and went to Portalupi and were treated amazing! We left every other tasting room with bottles of wine EXCEPT Cartograph! I will never again visit Cartograph or refer anyone there. read more

We stopped by over Labor Day weekend based on the recommendation of another tasting room we went to. They had a sign stating reservations required for groups of 4 or more...we were 8, but it was empty inside so we thought we'd ask if we could do 4 now and 4 of us would return later. Before we could make that suggestion they counted us up and refused to help us, siting to the sign on the door. We specifically sought out Cartograph during our 4 night stay in Healdsburg because I had read somewhere online that they produced a bone-dry Riesling in the french style. Boy are we glad we stopped in! We loved the Riesling, but also loved each pinot noir that was put in front of us. Tara was so charming and so helpful. She explained each wine and where the grapes were grown, and told us the story of Cartograph's history, including the meaning behind the logo. We visited Healdsburg today and stopped in at the Chamber. The lady there was awesome and she gave us recommendations for places to drink wine and eat food. She gave us complimentary tasting cards for Cartograph so we stopped in. The lady told us the cards were just marketing things and wanted to charge us for the tastings even though printed on the cards was "complimentary tasting for one". Who cares what their wines taste like - with service like that I will NEVER BE BACK! read more
