My daughter and I literally walked out in the middle of our appointment today due to a frustrating experience that should have been completely avoidable. Three weeks ago, my daughter had an exam and was told she needed a cavity filled. When I scheduled today's appointment online, I specifically indicated that it was for the filling. In fact, the entire reason we were there was to have the procedure completed. Adding to the confusion, I had called the day before to schedule an appointment for myself because the fillings this office placed just three weeks ago had already fallen out. I was told the earliest available appointment was two hours later, which I accepted. When we arrived for my daughter's appointment, they took additional X-rays, which seemed odd given that she had just been examined a few weeks earlier. The dentist then informed me that my daughter needed a cavity filled. I explained that was exactly why we were there. I was then told that today's appointment was only for an assessment--even though that assessment had already been completed less than a month ago. When I questioned why another assessment was necessary, the dentist told me to "calm down." I was not yelling or being rude; I was simply trying to understand why we were repeating a process that had already been done. She left the room for about 10 minutes and returned, saying she would work through her break to complete my daughter's filling because there were only 10 minutes left in the appointment, but that she would not be able to address the fillings that had fallen out of my own teeth. At that point, I expressed my frustration. Not only had we been scheduled incorrectly, but I was being told that the work that had failed in my own mouth would not be addressed. Rather than acknowledging the scheduling error, I was repeatedly told that the office had done nothing wrong, despite the fact that their records clearly showed my daughter had already been evaluated just weeks earlier. That was the moment I decided neither my daughter nor I would be receiving treatment there again. The most disappointing part is that the front office staff and support team are genuinely kind and pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, the scheduling process, communication, and overall patient experience left a lot to be desired. It appears the office may be struggling with staffing and scheduling issues, and until those are resolved, I would be hesitant to recommend them. read more

It's been about five months since my last visit. If you're looking for a general dentist, cleaning etc, they are great. Reconstructive work, I'd stay away and go to a specialist. I came in as I needed a new dentist and had an onlay that chipped. Dr. Reddy Bhuma and her staff are very friendly and make the experience welcoming. So I was excited to have them remove the onlay and put on a crown. The removal went fine and I should have known something was up when the Dr had the dental tech rescan for the crown and said if any red was on the scan to let her know. Well, the dental tech did not do so which meant when I came back for the crown fitting the crown did not fit. It was too high so they had to numb it again and shave down the tooth and another two weeks in a temporary crown. Round two, the crown sorta fit with a few adjustments. The crown to me was bulky, didn't fully align with the other teeth and the bottom was too flat. I was not happy and slept on it over night. I went back the next day to explain and while they were very considerate, the outcome was I'd basically have to live with this. I went to another dentist who adjusted the crown further so the bite was better. Fast forward five months, new dentist took X-rays and the margin/fit of the crown on pthe back side is not flush and needs to be redone. Keep in mind dental insurance sucks as they only allow reconstruction of a tooth every five years. So since the onlay was done in 2022, I haven't hit the five year mark. The first crown at this dentist cost around $800 and the redo at the new dentist is going to be at least $1500. Again very pleasant staff however if you need reconstructive work go elsewhere. read more

While care is generally fine -- not wow or poor -- I'm extremely frustrated with the office staff. I've called 6x in the last 2 weeks to try and get an RX for Prevident that I can use to get the specialty toothpaste I need. They either ignore me or insist that I drive to their office every time I need more. I don't have time to 'shop at the dentist' and if they are going to recommend a treatment, then they should enable me to purchase the product wherever I see fit. read more

I was referred to Carus by my roommate who is a regular patient. My first visit was impressive. My second visit the Periodontist, Dr. Tahiri and she referred me to an oral specialist in San Antonio. The referred oral specialist doesn't accept any insurance and they have no payment plan. They are willing to accept me provided that I'm ready to pay $600 up front. I don't make a lot of money, I have other medical conditions and I rely heavily on insurance and payment plans to cover medical, dental expenditures. I was not satisfied with this outcome. I decided to email Dr. Tahiri, last week and have not heard back from her. I called the receptionist at Carus and she said that they could not refer to another oral surgeon that is in network. She instead suggested that I call Signal, my PPO and ask them to refer me. I called my provider and that sent me a list of over 160 oral surgeon s. This if course was overwhelming. I found one and called, asked if they take new patients, they said yes and that I need a referral from Carus. I called Carus and spoke to the same receptionist and she said to just send the one that was originally used, I said "ok, I'll call the oral surgeon." I called and they will not accept the referral. That it need to be do on their online form. I called Carus once again, spoke to the same receptionist and she said that the Periodontist needed to do it and that she would not be in until Thursday. I asked if she could call or email her so that this can get expedited sooner. She was hesitant and said that she would leave a note. By this time I'm extremely frustrated and the receptionist did not seem empathetic in the least bit. I have been in pain and discomfort since my visit with the Periodontist three weeks ago. After neglecting my dental health since Covid, I finally went back to my Austin dentist! I had a complete work up by Amy using many pieces of diagnostic equipment and taking care that the health of my individual teeth, my tongue, my gums and all surrounding mouth tissue was observed, checked and noted. I am in my 70's and have had a wide assortment of procedures and cleanings done and never have I had such an extreme amount of examinations done. They are obviously going to help me keep my teeth in excellent condition ! I AM IMPRESSED!!! read more

I normally have my regular routine cleaning done with this office. I booked an appointment for that. On getting there the dental hygienist took mr teeth x-ray, examine my teeth and told me that she would like to do deep cleaning. I don't believe I needed that. I tld her I will do that if it is covered by my insurance. She said she will plugged it into the system +and let me know what my out of pocket will be. She came back and said it will be $240.00. (That would be after my insurance pays 80%,). I told her know, I can't afford it right now. She immediately got aggressive, told me she will not clean my teeth unless I buy the adds on. This is so rude and unprofessional. I will never recommend this place nor go there again. read more

The people that work there were so nice and lovely, I almost feel guilty about writing a bad review. BUT, I will not be going back to this facility. I hate the dentist, and I move a lot, so I often will go a few years between dental exams. It had been about 3 years and I knew it was time, so I went here based on the reviews I saw. My first impression was I had made the right decision. The first appointment with x-rays and such was actually a great experience. Everyone was nice and took the time to explain things in a positive way. I didn't feel like I was a terrible person for not flossing enough. They really explained everything about what needed to be done and the cost to me very clearly. All good. The good experience unfortunately ended when it was time to get some work done. I had couple cavities and a few fillings that needed to be replaced. I made 2 appointments for the filling work and one for my cleaning. First filling appointment: Again, everyone was nice, but part of the way through the process, I felt the drill. I do not know how people got fillings before Novocain, because it was awful (and quite the shock as I have NEVER had this happen). She stopped and gave me another injection. It took a few minutes for me to calm down, but I let it go. Second filling appointment: It happened AGAIN! While she was working, I got another jolt of intense pain. More Novocain, but this time it was very, very hard to calm back down. Then, yup, one more time! I've unfortunately had a good amount of fillings in my life as I had crazy braces that wrapped all around my teeth making brushing difficult (and I was a kid, I wasn't that diligent). So I know it's not like i have some intolerance to the numbing drug. I have to assume she was just not using it correctly. Cleaning appointment: She was SOOOOO nice! But she dug and yanked so hard at one of my new filling areas while cleaning I thought she was going to tear the tooth out. It hurt for days after. And to top it all off, the fillings I got have problems. Again, I've had a lot of fillings, these things have never happened before. 1. I got the fillings 3 months ago. They are STILL sensitive to pressure when I chew food. They seem fine when it comes to temperature, but I can feel it when I bite directly onto one of the new fillings. The first month and a half was really bad, and even now I have to be careful about how I chew (and sometimes they seem to get sore for no reason). 2. I can feel the fillings. I've never been able to feel the fillings with my tongue before. They always just seemed to be a part of my tooth. Not these. They stick up. AND I can sometimes still taste them. I don't know if they are using new materials now or what changed, but I had never experienced this before. It's a harsh chemical taste/smell, especially if I push air between my teeth. This is concerning... 3. I now get food stuck between my teeth in at least 3 places every time I eat. I mentioned this when I came back for the cleaning, as I also had a sharp spot. She was more than happy to file the sharp spot down, but she was able to get floss between the teeth so she basically said I just have to live with the food issue. This might be true, but considering all of the other problems, I don't know that I trust that this is how it should be. Again, the customer service here is great, and I wish I could go back. But I simply can't. Once again looking for a new dentist. read more

I've come here routinely for a few years now and have never felt like anything unnecessary was pushed on me. They have always been very open and flexible. An example being when I was getting ready to go on vacation and the dentist recommend I have my fillings replaced at some point...well I wanted those metal things out before the trip. I had 8 (yikes)... well they scheduled 4 for one day and told me I could do the other 4 that same day or a few days later. Well I was a champ and knocked out all 8 in one day! I also go about every 3 to 4 months for my cleaning and the staff has been pretty consistent over the few years I have gone. Only 1 dentist change, and I think I have only had 3 separate hygenists. I like consistency. I also don't feel like I am just a patient. The office isnt huge and pushing volume. When I go there is rarely more than 1 other person waiting in the lobby, and they always seem to really take their time to do what they need to. I would certainly recommend this office to anyone who is looking for a quality dental office. read more

I used to love this place, but they have really gone downhill. The technicians are still good, but the new dentist barely spent two seconds with me on my last visit. I first went to them because they were in my HMO plan from Cigna. As I was trying to schedule an annual exam and cleaning, I discover they may not accept my insurance anymore. The assistant on the phone said she would call and find out. She never called back, even after I called back a second time. I eventually got to the bottom of it with Cigna myself just to find out that sure enough- they stopped accepting the insurance plan that brought me there in the first place. The staff are all very friendly and the hours are convenient. However, one of the fillings that the dentist put in fell out four months later. When I moved to Los Angeles and started with a new dentist he said that all four fillings done by this office were wildly insufficient and would need to be completely taken out and re-done. read more

I wasn't going to give a bad review because I thought the first time might be a fluke. It just happened a second time, so here we go. On 2 separate occasions, I tried making an online appointment at this location. The first occasion, I'd cracked a tooth and tried to make an online appointment, indicating my tooth was broken and never heard from them until several months later to let me know I was past due for a dental check up. The second occasion, I even tried to make the online appointment twice for a toothache. Its been at least 2 weeks and I just now said I was past due for my dental check up. Once again, my attempts to make appointments were not addressed. I'd already found a new Dentist and I explained why. I got a response from them, thanking me for letting them know I had a new Dentist. No apology. No explanation. No answer on whether they check their online appointment requests. These guys are great! From the administrative aspect to the actual procedures, you can expect to be treated kindly and with respect. I have been seeing Dr Chandrashekar (aka Dr P.C.). She is both direct and warm, as well as clearly knowledgeable and patient. I had some misunderstandings about some of the options for my procedure; she very nicely answered my questions (repeatedly), then helped guide me toward an informed decision about my treatment plan. Never once did I feel as though anything was being pushed on me. She and her staff then went the extra mile to help set up my referral appointment (I needed surgery, which was not in her purview). The atmosphere of the office is nice, and the whole staff worked seamlessly to ensure that I receive the best treatment possible, within the framework of my insurance. read more

-I showed up 20 minutes early (as instructed) to fill out paperwork. They didn't call me back until 20 minutes after my appointment. So I spent 40 minutes in the waiting room. -I asked to make an appointment for a teeth cleaning because I was overdue. I couldn't have been more clear. We made an appointment. -Day of the appointment I received two voicemails within an hour asking me to come in earlier than my appointed time. -I did not get a cleaning. They just hastily took x rays and charged me for an exam appointment. I have always had dentists that were able to do the exam and cleaning in the same appointment. This wasted over an hour of my time. -I mentioned maybe wanting to get braces later this year. They said they could give me a referral. I told them that it was ok, I'd need to wait until getting my tax refund, etc. to see if it was even feasible. I now have an orthodontist leaving me voicemails soliciting my business. I never told them it was ok to give another doctor my info and explicitly said i didn't want to schedule an ortho appointment right now. My impression was these people did not care at all about my dental health, just making money. I am so sick of offices that want to charge you $75 if you're late or miss an appointment but have no problem asking you to move an appointment, making you wait, or just flat out not giving you the service you asked for. Nobody has called about scheduling my cleaning appointment or with the insurance follow up I thought I was getting. read more

NO. I went to Carus for a long time, but I switched dentists last year. My better dentist said they had to REDO all of my Carus fillings. I had to pay out of pocket for my new dentist to redrill and replace my fillings done by Carus (I had done less than a year prior). Carus Dental did not properly seal my fillings and there was a gap in between each tooth and its new filling, causing cavities! I told my new dentist that I was glad I wasn't at Carus Dental anymore. She said, "Yeah. I am so sorry. We get that a lot, unfortunately." One time, I complained of pain (meaning they didn't numb my mouth properly during a cavity filling). The dentist stopped drilling and filled it. I couldn't help but think they were doing UNNECESSARY DRILLING if they stopped as soon as I complained. Even if that isn't the case, I paid for fillings that they did improperly, without a proper seal. :( Cleanings were done quickly and hurt my mouth a lot. I was surprised with the new dentist how painless it was and how much time/care they took to make me comfortable and taking full care of my dental needs. Due to an injury sustained as a child, I have a filling on my front tooth, and I need to get it redone every few years. I've been going to Carus for about 6 years, but the last few years have been more than disappointing. In March I had my filling redone. I had a ton of bruising on my upper lip for days after the filling, and that has never happened before. On top of that, my tooth was extremely sensitive to temperature, which also has never happened in the past. It was so bad I could only drink with a straw and I had to bite into things with the side of my mouth. Not 2 months later, while eating a soft sandwich, the filling broke! I couldn't get an appointment for at least 3 weeks, but fine. I just had to live with my broken front tooth for a few weeks. When I finally went in, I told the dentist about the unbearable sensitivity as well as how it broke while I was eating a sandwich, and also added that I never bit into anything straight on with my front teeth. Instead of apologizing, she completely dismissed the notion that I had any sensitivity in that tooth at all. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I sat there and told her how my tooth was feeling and she acted like it wasn't even possible!!! Like what I had been experiencing for the past 2 months didn't actually happen?? I'm delusional or I made it all up?? The gall! When I reminded her that it broke while eating a sandwich, she said, "well, it doesn't really matter what you're eating. It's still a lot of bite force." WOW. So the crappy filling she gave me was my fault? You're telling me that if I deign to bite into a sandwich, my filling is expected to break? I will NEVER set foot in this dentist office again. I recommend no one ever come here unless they want shoddy work, pain, and a dentist who complete invalidates your personal experience. read more

Yes I had to go see my dentist named Candy like her name she was sweet and beautiful she explained what needed to be done and her dental assistant as very attentive to my needs ,I went in as an emergency patient and it was less than a mile to house so what the heck, I could not locate the dentist that did the cap that need to be replaced every time I went to web page she was not there so feeling as I was got dressed and went too see my new Dentist Candy Rodriguez , the office staff was on their toes it was clean quick and great flow of patients in and out all kinds of financing available but I took my own guy ( my husband he handles it all) so should you need dental work go see her she is easy on the eyes and young but then again everyone is younger than me, read more

I am someone who looks up yelp constantly for guidance on places to consider for pretty much anything ! I can't even explain what a wonderful experience I had at this location ! From the moment I walked in this location it was a past awesome experience. Dr. Rodriguez is the bomb.com and that ladies that work by her side are just as great. I was constantly asked if I was fine, they explained every step to me, answered all my questions and etc. I had a chipped tooth that drove me up the wall and I practically hated my smile but they fixed right and at a great price ! I came in for a new patient exam and cleaning. The office was clean and staff was friendly. The dental assistant doing my ex-rays did not seem knowledgeable about the process she had to keep redoing them and did not properly put on the lead vest. The doctor was great! She was very nice, and I felt as though she did a very through exam. She explained to me she was doing while she was doing it and explained the reasoning for it. When it came time to make a treatment plan the dental assistant was very rude when I had told her that I could not afford all of the treatments I needed done. Saying that I cannot pick and choose which procedures I can or cannot do. I had asked her if I could go with any less expensive options and she said that I cannot because its not what the doctor recommends. They have no options for payment plans and the procedures are very expensive $180 for a cleaning $1,600 for a crown. How do they expect a family, on one income to pay for these? read more

The dentist was clearly interested in maximizing the number of patients she saw rather than getting it right. They made me wait outside and then on the dentists chair for a very long while. While I was waiting on the chair, I could make out that they had ushered another patient in and the dentist first operated on her before she operated on me! My cavity was not done properly and it hurt every time I chewed. I went back and another dentist filed my tooth. The pain still did not stop. I finally went to Southwest Smiles and they told me the pain was due to a fracture in the tooth and it probably happened during the operation!! read more

***Update: I called them up, they verified me and even had an opening the day of. Everyone was super friendly when I came in. They took the x-rays, examined my stuff (I always worry I'm going to get yelled at cause I don't always floss everyday) but turns out I was in good health and even had me get the cleaning done asap. Dr. PC...PV..one of them, she was great, funny, made me feel at ease and you could tell the staff all had a good sense of humor and kept the environment fun and comfortable for all. Worth all the red tape to get here. Highly recommend. Don't have to schedule my next appt till it gets closer to a month before either. *** I can't even tell you how insanely stupid the process to get an appointment with this place is. I had to get my insurance to assign me to this place first. They apparently are a roster only company (whatever crap that means). The roster is updated only once a month (cause we live in the 50's). So I jump through all the hoops and get assigned and blah blah blah. My insurance messed up and I got left off the next months roster. Carus refused to take a faxed copy immediately from my insurance. So of course I get punished for it. I'm gonna go ahead and wait and try to reschedule to see how their actual facility runs. Less than three hours later the teeth that were hurting me were extracted and at a fraction of the cost my dentist had planned to charge me. I started seeing Dr. Rodriguez about two years ago. I felt a little rushed, as if it were a production/profit plant, but understanding business, I accepted this. A year ago I had a filling in my front tooth. It came out and she refilled it. I had another cavity filled that she told me should last a couple of years before needing a crown a couple of months ago. That filling came out after a short while. She refilled it and it came out the next day. While I was waiting for my appointment that day, another patient walked in with his crown in his hand. I started having doubts about this. She told me I needed a crown so I schedule an appointment, and had it done. I went in for a scheduled visit today, and they told me they were replacing my crown becuase it didn't completely cover my tooth to the gum line allowing another potential cavity. I was not happy, but I needed it done. I cancelled my other work because I have lost confidence in Dr. Rodriguez and schedule with the alternate doctor. It the next work is not good quality, I will not patronize another Carus Dental again. read more

I've been coming here for quite some time now. I've had a few mixed experiences with cleanings but this place is so close to my job I continued going. I scheduled a cleaning a few months out through their online scheduling system and a few days before my appt they called me to say that they double booked my appt and needed to reschedule me. Side note- I was 9 months pregnant at the time and was really wanting to get my cleaning before giving birth. I ask the gentleman who called me what other times they had available that week since they were making me reschedule. They only had one availability which was an early morning Saturday appt. That date wouldn't work for me so I asked for another date and there were no availabilities. I asked if he could somehow fit me in that week because of my situation and the fact that they messed up and overbooked patients and somehow they were canceling my appt even though I had scheduled it months ago. Nope- no accommodation. I will be searching for a new dentist office now. Double booking and then refusing to offer any other reasonable times just isn't worth my business anymore. read more

Dr. Rodriguez was rude and saw opportunity from the moment I walked in, to the end. My gut tells me she is one of those women that has a problem with other women. I asked her about replacing my metal fillings for the white kind, because of mercury and she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about with a snotty attitude and rolled her eyes. To make it worse, she said my fillings did need to be replaced though, which is weird, because I have had the same fillings for about ten years, with no problems, no cavities getting in; they are solid and good. I went and had a second opinion somewhere else, and the doctor said my fillings were fine, and that every time you replace them, depending on how the nerve handles each trauma of work being done, you risk having to get a root canal. He also reinterated what I had brought up to her, that there does appear to be a possible risk of certain mental illnesses as you get older from the metal fillings. So when I had the money, I opted to have the metal ones replaced with the white ones. Why would you assume that the Carus dentist ignored my concern about the kind of fillings being used, but push to have them filled when they didn't need to be...? Because the Army was paying for it and they only pay for the metal kind. It was very selfish of her, because if I didn't find away around it, then I would have wound up going through the process twice and possibly having to get a root canal on my own dime, as the risk increases each time. If she wasn't busy rolling her eyes and acting snotty, she would have discussed this with me. By the time I left there, I felt so violated. She was a professional, and I was put in a situation of having to be there with her her abuse for her to make a decision that she was being trusted with, which she took advantage of in both ways. She is lucky I didn't put it on the review my job offers for me to turn in. I did go and spend $2,000 with a Castle dentist. The men I worked with told me she was extra friendly though...attention whore. read more
