Caruso's is an excellent restaurant! I have been eating there with my family since I was little and am so excited to have them cater my wedding on Saturday. Liat Caruso Peters has been wonderful to work with. She is so professional and has made the wedding planning process easy and fun. I appreciate all her catering experience and helpful suggestions. We were so excited to try this family owned Italian restaurant. Sadly, we were disappointed. We were never greeted when walking in, hostess never said hi or anything. Other people were waiting for a table when we got there, so when the hostess said sit them there, we had no idea who she was talking too. Then, as the waitress picked up the menus and started walking in, she turned around , put the menus back and walked back to the hostess and someone was already at that table and said nothing to us, we were just left standing in the dining room with no idea what was going on. Finally, we were seated. We told the waitress this was our first time here and asked what she recommended. She stated she really does not know as she really does not eat here. I asked about the "signature" spaghetti with meatballs and she could not say as she has never had them. We had heard that they have awesome breadsticks, we asked twice and never received them until we received our meal, while we watched other tables receive them almost upon seating. Dinner was ok, but not exceptional at all. I had leftovers and sad to say, did not want to take them home. I ordered a second drink for dinner but never received it till the end of the meal and the waitress made the comment, I may want this before I was done, warm beer, did not drink it. My wife asked for a bag for the leftover breadstick and she came back with tin foil and sad this is the best she could do. We went to Caruso's tonight and we're so disappointed. They were very busy and we waited about 30 minutes to be seated which we didn't mind. The waitress was quick and efficient but not overly friendly and didn't smile once during the entire meal. I ordered 1/2 portion of stuffed shells and my husband ordered veal parmigiana. The bread sticks were boring. Just barely a hint of garlic in the butter in which they were drowning. The waitress apparently thought I said "no onions" on my salad which I didn't so she brought me a salad with no onions but it was obvious they were picked off as the whole salad smelled of onion. My shells were actually fairly good. My husband's veal was awful. It tasted like fry oil and the sauce on his spaghetti side tasted like chef boyardee and had a similar orange color. The waitress never asked how the food was, only if we needed anything else (she probably knows). Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

This place is a gem in Angola. I was told the breadsticks here are spectacular, and they did not disappoint. The staff here are super friendly and accommodating. We were seated and reseated quickly. Though it took a little bit of time before someone checked on us, we were happy with our meal. The food was good, not anything SPECTACULAR, but it was good! read more

Went here with a group of friends on a Tuesday night and had a great time. The food was hearty and it had a very homey atmosphere. This place is perfect for large groups (specifically families) and we were served quickly. They also had a gluten free menu from where you can choose a good selection. My boyfriend and I tried this place out 3/14/15 around 3pm. When we arrived we were seated quickly but there was only one other group of people already there. There was Frank Sinatra playing in the background and the area was clean and somewhat old fashioned. Both our host and our server were friendly. We had fried calamari and breadsticks for appetizers. We both oved the calamari and the zesty dipping sauce it came with it. The breadsticks however are enormous and very dry in my opinion and were covered with garlic butter and light parmesan. Looking at the menu, most of the items seem to be better suited for dinner which is ok. Due to having read previous reviews and seeing pictures from previous visitors, we took the easy way out and ordered a stuffed crust pizza with pepperoni, bacon and green olives. The pizza was12" and began at around $20 then adding toppings at an additional $2.00 each and even more expensive for certain toppings including bacon. This was the first time I have ever had a pizza with a ridiculous amount of cheese on it, but really did not care for the pizza. The pizza had no flavor whatsoever. I remember checking under the cheese to see if there was even any sauce on it. Despite having two flavor filled items on it (pepperoni and olives), this pizza truly had no taste. Overall the experence was just okay for me. I must completely agree with some of the other reviews when they say that the menu is pricey for the quality of the food. I might come back sometime to try something else but that will be far into the future. read more

Their food can be expensive but everything else is good. You get seated quickly, fast ordering and a bit more of an upscale atmosphere than a regular restaurant. The food is super good and I always find myself bringing home some in a box. read more

We tried to use a gift card, with no expiration date, and were told we could not use it. Then we were accused of calling earlier in the day and making some arrangement with someone on the phone (we never even called the restaurant). After they refused to honor the gift card, they offered a 15% discount and demanded the card back. The value of the card was worth more than 15% of our order. We offered to pay full price and we would just keep our card but we were told we HAD to give the card back. Then the woman told us we couldn't keep the card so we could keep coming back in and getting a discount over and over again. This was after we told them we would pay full price for our meal! We were treated horribly and honestly, the food was not good enough to make me want to ever go back!!! This was the WORST dining experience we have ever had in our lives! FYI, we did pay full price for our meals and left a tip because we aren't the kind of people that are just trying to get something for nothing. Our group of 9 did take-out, and all the selections were great. The wait time was only 1/2 hour even though their dinning room was packed. The shrimp scampi is to die for - tender shrimp with a wonderful garlic flavor. The pasta dishes were superb, and the what-ever-you-call-it stuffed pasta with ham was delightful. I have been eating here since 1999. The food as a whole is very good. The veal parmigiana is my favorite. The wine selection good. The service is good, but not great. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but can get loud. A great restaurant for groups or families. read more

Service was great and food was also very good. The breadsticks they bring were awesome. Got the calamari appetizer and it was quite chewy and flavorless though. Several problems.....First: waited about 10 minutes until a waitress came and seated us. Second: Ordered a panini only to be told they did not have any. Third: Meatballs were extremely refrigerator cold, waitress apologized only to take them back to the kitchen and had them nuked. Fourth: came around to ask if we wanted refills on our ice teas only to have them charge us an extra $2.00 per refill on our bill. Even McDonalds gives FREE refills on all their drinks!!!!!! I think $4.00 is a bit excessive for ice tea with more ice than tea....Will spread the word to all lakers not to go to Caruso's. Not worth the money we spent........ read more

Last night was the first time I had been there since the late '80's. What a disappointment. Table conversation was impossible, too noisy. The tables themselves looked as thought they had been rescued from a landfill. The finish was peeling off and gave the appearance of "unsanitary." My entrée consisted of noodles stuck together with cold and gooey Alfredo sauce. The bread sticks were mushy from too much olive oil/butter poured over them. Other entrees were not unlike Bertolli frozen meals from the grocer except the Bertolli has more taste. My grilled shrimp were over -cooked and dry. Way too pricey for the quality of the food. They have digressed far from when Mom and Dad ran the establishment. read more

The special of the night, Cuban was so bland that I immediately regretted ordering it after my first bite and was served with fries that had to come out of those jumbo paper coated freezer bags, you know mushy in the middle. No seasoning at all, not even a creative oregano blend. The calamari appi. was served as strips from steaks not as tendrils were good with a nice balance dipping sauce. Stick with wine or wonderful Chapman's beer. Mixed drinks received mixed reviews. Veal Marcella was tough with a doughy crust due to heavy of a coating. Salad came with what our waitress called an invisible dressing. Say what? And you know what? It was never found. Ceasar salad looked lovely. Sausage Leek soup had a very delicious broth and was very satisfying along a with Ceasar. This was not my first visit which pains me as my usual clam linguini is outstanding as are their breadsticks. We called Caruso's a few days before dining there requesting a reservation for 8 for Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.. The lady that answered said they do not take reservations but not to worry - "The parking lot may look full, but don't let that scare you. We have a banquet room and often times the cars are for that. There will be no problem getting your group in." We arrived at approximately 6:10 p.m. and were told it would be 20-30 minutes. We waited for almost an hour. They seated a group of 7 and several other groups. They even sat a group that had a 'reservation'. Yes, a reservation that we were told they did not take. We were right by the hostess stand and we heard the conversation. When my husband inquired, the hostess was not pleasant. We even said we would take (2) 4 top tables and split up. She said "Don't you think if I had that I would do that?" Well, obviously they were seating lots of others groups of various sizes. After almost an hour we saw a fairly large group leave and inquired. She conceded and gave us that table. She said it would be a tight fit. We took it. It worked out fine. The server was nice but very, very slow. Took us about 10 minutes to get greeted, then another 10 minutes to get water and eventually our orders taken. When the food was served only 5 of us got ours, then about 10 minutes passed and the other 3 got theirs. Thankfully the food was good after all of that. In all, we were there 3 hours! Yes, 3 hours!!!!! Would not recommend this restaurant based on the poor service starting with the hostess. read more
