I used to come to this restaurant more often, but found they have a location closer to my home so now I visit that one instead. Anyway, I was at this one with some friends last week and it's just as good as their other spot, though maybe more crowded. The restaurant feels pretty small and cramped, but once you get your table you have your own space and it's not bad. Service was polite and friendly and the food was delicious, as I've come to expect from the Casa de Lago name. My friends had only been here a few times and that was mostly for drinks so I gave them some menu recommendations and they loved their food. I got my standard shrimp taco and my friends got the chicken wrap (it's a burrito) and some sort of enchilada platter. I also ordered the fried ice cream for us all to share. My friends admitted they probably never would have ordered that dessert, and they were super full so they didn't want more than a bite, but they liked it so much they totally helped me eat it. The food is usually good. Today my friend and I went for lunch. I believe they have a new cook. The food was not up to par. The chips were way too greasy. My chili relleno was not fully cooked and the cheese within was not fully melted. This is not the restaurant I'm use to. The help is great to interact with. Phone orders need a lot of work. Over the last two weeks the phone keeps giving a constant busy signal. Today after 45 minutes I went to place my order in person. I asked why there phone was always busy and the girl taking orders told me they were really busy and must have been on the phone with other customers when I called. I noticed the phone was not on the hook and they were very slow. While I was waited outside for my order I saw their phone on the counter in the back. Beware!!! Almost everything on the menu here is fried in lard. I asked and they fry all the meats, the beans, the rice, the eggs and even the sauce they pour over the burritos with lard. Since I don't like to consume lard, the only thing on the menu that I could eat was the garden burrito (without sauce.) It's got lettuce, tomato, guacamole and cheese. This place is extremely popular and the food is tasty, but if you don't want to eat food cooked in lard you're pretty much out of luck. read more

Casa de Lago has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. The shredded beef Combination burrito, shredded beef tacos and cheese enchiladas are my favorites. Their staff are always professional and polite and some of them have been there for many years! My only criticism is the salsa and chips. The salsa tastes okay but is too runny and the chips are never warm and taste old. They haven't changed or been good in the 30 years I have been going there. That being said, I do love this restaurant and hope it never closes its doors as it would be a huge loss to our small town. read more

I have always loved Casa but was seriously disappointed tonight in their take out service. My husband went to pick up our food but when he got there, he found a line of people waiting outside for their orders. He duly took his place and waited for over 15 minutes. Suddenly, a woman walked up, breezed right past the people in line and went straight inside. Instead of the server asking her to take her place in the line, she served her! Finally my husband walked off in frustration when it became apparent that this restaurant is painfully lacking any kind of system. We will not be using their take out service again. read more

FOOD POISONING! My sister and I split the nachos with machaca on them. We also split a beef taco, cheese enchilada, and Chile relleno. She got sick with 4-6 hours with vomiting and diarrhea. It hit me about 36 hours later with the same symptoms. We are in good health normally and this is a major disaster for us. I have reported Casa de Lago to the health department. Beyond crazy insane the way they change for things. Not only is their food prices sky rocketed but now they do not give you more than one bowl of chips. Any additional bowls of chips you ask for they want to charge you almost $2.00 more per bowl. Its a matter of time that you get one drink refill free but any additional refills they will charge charge you for. They could not even seat 6 of us together they had to literally place us at 2 separate tables. I don't care if family or friends offer to treat me or my family to Casa De Lago, I will not go & we will take our business to Casa De Soria in Ventura, where the plates, dishes are larger, endless chips, better food & all for the same prices. read more

Being an Oak View resident it would be hard to say you've never been to the OV staple simply dubbed Casa by longtime residents. Family run, Gabriel and his wife have always made the customer feel at home. Which of course is part of its charm. The waitresses have all been there for many years and they are always happy to see you and normally you can't get away without seeing someone you know, even people who come up from Ventura (like me) to get our Casa Fix! Normally when it's a non busy time you can seat yourself. But when it's busy which is usually from 5:00 though 7:00, they will take your name and you'll have a wait, and people do wait. The servers will bring you chips and salsa , white cup is mild, brown is spicy and they will ask you what you want to drink. Best Ice Tea ever (Farmer Brothers Coffee shout out), before they switched to bigger glasses they used to bring people pitchers of it because it was that popular... They'd see me coming and have it ready. Casa is best described as Mexican comfort food. It's tasty and you always leave satisfied. The Cheese Enchilada and rice is by far my favorite thing to get. I also love their ground beef tacos , yum! They also serve hamburgers for those in your party who might not feel like Mexican food when you do. On the weekends they serve breakfast until 10 or 11. The parking is tight, it's my one gripe and seating is limited but it's never stopped me from going. I've met a lot of great servers , waitresses and waiters over the years. A word of appreciation going out to Gwen, Penny, Martin(Mar-Teen), Pam, Yesenia, Travis and so many more, who have helped shape Casa De Lago into what it is! Casa de Lago is my new favorite home away from home Mexican joint. Cutest little restaurant off the main drag as you drive through Oak View, it's the best restaurant in town. Parking to each side it's accessible & easy to find. Service: 5 stars. Friendly seasoned people working here. Feels old timey and I like it. Their quick to serve you and get your food out to you. also I've called in orders and they always get the orders right, no issues at all. Food: all I can say is Carne Asada tacos! My favorite hands down. My man turned me on to them here and I love them. The meat is super tender and flavorful. Also the chips and salsa are great.
