We really enjoyed dinner here! The atmosphere was super relaxing, and the surrounding area is so lush and serene. It also has a really nice community-oriented feel. The menu rotates daily, and you order at the front before grabbing your choice of hot or cold tea and silverware. Once your meal is ready, they place the day's meal on a tray for you to pick up. It's a pretty simple and relaxed setup. Our favorite parts of the meal were definitely the vegan veggie sushi rolls and the bean side. Everything was really enjoyable! One thing to keep in mind is that the menu is preset, so if you have any food allergies, I'd recommend calling ahead to see what will be available that day. Especially if you have a nut allergy. Overall, we had a great experience and really enjoyed the food, peaceful atmosphere, and unique daily-menu concept!

The vibe is immaculate here, which makes food only part of the focus, because the space here is designed to attract those that are looking for a level of inner peace, and I was absolutely down for it. The food was simple, healthy, and delicious, and I had a great time consuming everything from vegetables to legumes to tea. One meal portion was $16 per person and I was served a plate of food that contained sauteed vegetables, salad, lentils, and steamed vegetables with sauces. Everything was delicious. Since I normally loved cooking vegan at home, some of what they served here, especially lentils, matched exactly what I would have cooked. The soup and tea were amazing as well, and there was a piece of paper on the table with explanations about the tea. Even on a Monday in December, this place had everything that I needed. There was a hammock outside, a path to walk on, and a bulletin board with flyers advertising all types of local events that were along the lines of healing and inner peace. That further solidified my perceptions about how this place would attract people whose energies aligned with what this place was trying to surround itself with.

If you want to feel virtuous for the rest of the day, Casa de Luz is your spot. This place is basically the mothership for holistic, plant-based, vegetable-forward dining in Austin. This was my second visit, and the food followed the same formula as the first. You walk in, pay at the counter (as of late 2025 the meal is $16, there is only one option), then swing around to the other counter to pick up your tray of wellness. It comes with soup and a salad. Today's lineup: massaged kale, a vegetable medley of cauliflower, carrot, and zucchini and rice and black beans for your carbs and protein. The main item if you call it that was a taco in a corn tortilla, which was filled with, shocker, more vegetables. Mushroom and green bean taco. I have to admire the commitment. Hot or iced tea is self serve and comes with the meal. There's also dessert if you want to pay a little extra. The vibe is exactly what you'd expect from an Austin institution that's been doing this forever. It sits in a little cluster of shops that all radiate holistic energy. There was an organic juice shop, a place that services healthy hot chocolate. I didn't see a crystal store, but I could have just missed it. Speaking of things I may have missed, I didn't see any knives with the other cutlery. Just forks and spoons here. And honestly, why would you need a knife? There's nothing here that a fork can't gently subdue. The outdoor dining area is lovely, with trees and a peaceful feel, and the indoor space is just as nice. Tranquil world music plays softly in the background. I've never been at night, but the little pathway to the restaurant looks like it would be beautiful in the evening. You come here if you want vegetables, with a side of vegetables, sprinkled with more vegetables. It's not Franklin Barbecue, and it's not trying to be. It's Casa de Luz, and for what it is, it's great.

This place is magical! The food is tasty. It is plant based and organic. If they allow it, I recommend bringing a container in case you have leftovers. They give you a generous amount of food. Food and tea is a set price unless you want to add on dessert. Dessert is extra. Everyone here (staff and patrons) seems relaxed and to be enjoying the present moment. The vibe here is super chill. This spot is definitely a hidden gem in Austin. There is also a second location on MLK which I'd like to check out one day soon.

I love the Casa De Luz space because it has a long walkway of paths with vegetation and seating areas. The location is so peaceful with water fountains and the sound of running water. There are several really unique murals that are painted on the buildings. I like to go walk around and explore the paths and sit and reflect in the beauty and peacefulness of the place. I was here for a wellness run collective meetup on Sunday morning and they had many vendors on site. It was a great location to host a community event. They also have a restaurant on site serving whole plant cuisine. I love their motto that they are a beacon for connection to food, community and ourselves. They derive their essential fatty acids from freshly ground seeds and nuts, creating sauces and dressings that not only nourish the body but also honor the wholeness of the plants themselves. I like the communal dining experience that fosters human connection.

Wonderful calming ambiance. Loved the vision and the food felt healing and fresh. Incase you are wondering if a vegan plate could keep you full, I would say it very much will. Most of us are not used to eating so many fiber rich foods! I do not eat vegan in my day to day diet and didn't feel a lack of anything in this meal. I will be back. Here's a sample menu from the day I went. It's mostly self serve and you need to bus and organize your dishes properly so but the lady at the front answered all my questions nicely so I'd say service was good.

The most zen space in all of Texas. Community - healing food - beautiful souls. this isn't as much of a restaurant as it is a community gathering space. Macrobiotic meals prepared with love. Wonderful selection of desserts. Hot and iced tea to wash it all down. This day, I enjoyed squash and sweet potato soup, salad with cooling dressing, beans, greens with the delicious sauce of cashews, millet with mushroom gravy. Hibiscus and lemongrass iced tea. Divine

I came here on a Saturday and enjoyed their whole food, plant-based lunch with kukicha tea. For dessert, I had chia pudding, and got a slice of pecan pie to go. It's fascinating to watch the ladies in the kitchen enthusiastically cutting fresh produce and preparing the dishes. Vibe is casual. Service is friendly. You can sit at one of the tables inside, or dine in the courtyard.

I never would have discovered this spot if I hadn't attended puppy yoga! It's such a charming and relaxing place--definitely my vibe. I did have a little trouble finding the restaurant, though maybe I just didn't look hard enough. With hammocks to lounge in, plenty of cozy seating, and cute plants all around, it's the perfect spot to unwind.

Decent food. Super healthy. They serve tea but with no sugar. So you'll be drinking bitter tea. Just FYI. Like not even natural sources of sugar are provided like agave or coconut sugar? Natural sugar is not the enemy. This was one of the only things that rubbed me the wrong way. Otherwise, Ambiance is 10/10. Dark and peaceful in there. I eventually want to go back and try their cafe and meditation lounge. The grounds are gorgeous! Lush greenery everywhere.

Pretty simple lunch place with one price for adults ($16) and one for kids ($7). You get a tray for your food and it comes with whatever is on the menu for the day--usually different types of salad, some sort of legume, rice, and soup. You also get drinks. The lunch was very light and healthy, making it the perfect in between meal before I got something heavy at night.

Ask the Community - Casa De Luz

Do they use peanuts or hazelnuts?

They use a lot of nuts in their sauces and dressings, so I would check the website or call and ask because the menu changes constantly.

Do they require masks to enter and order? I only see the workers wearing them.

Casa is pro-choice and allow others to make their own choices based on how they feel and what works best for each person.

Is this location dog friendly? At least in the patio?

Yes, the patio areas are dog friendly

Service The guy working the truck seemed to be high while taking our orders and making food. That must explain why tacos are $7, they were decently large and that runny age was good. It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki. Volcano roll was a deep fried roll which had spinach, avocado, sweet potato. On top: spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, Caviart and tempura onion. I would say this is the best vegetarian sushi place I've found in Austin. So if you're in search, this wouldn't disappoint you.

Being a mail order customer isn't for the faint of wallet because it makes sense to order at least six cheeses at a time, and that's not a small amount of money. Trying to factor in the timing is also part of the experience. Some of their cheeses can be frozen, and some are recommended to not be, like the brie. They recommend consuming the cheeses within 7 days of opening. It's just my husband and me in the household, so finishing a whole package of cheese in a week's time could be daunting. Speaking of the brie, it wasn't my favorite of the selection I received, which was a curated collection of Lorie's from Shark Tank. I studied their website before we went as a review session and they have a section with ingredients and options for food allergies and special diets. I got there prepared and the owner was there and I found out that website hasn't been updated in about 2 years. Many things have changed, but not their website. Our go-to Meati Sandwich is no longer on the menu. But I must say I love the new place. Bold, clean, awesome. Other than that, not too much has changed; they still have a lot of mouthwatering items on the menu... and my family can only eat one burger on the menu. We're allium-free vegetarians and there's alliums in sauces and certain proteins used. Thankfully, we were speaking to one of the co-owners and he was super helpful and patient with us, even looking up ingredients and letting us double check. He is aware of the Jain diet. They also have a kids menu and we actually ordered off of one for the first time for the kids (just a simplified version of the regular burgers), We ended up ordering: MISSION BURGER ($16.95): a classic burger with 2 Impossible patties. Having said that, the patties were super thin and smooshed flat. The guys got this burger. Took out onions and subbed out the house sauce with ketchup and mustard. JR MISSION BURGER ($12.95): same as the regular with only 1 of the smooshed impossible patties. My sister and I got this. A very good burger and it's such a nostalgic feeling eating a burger (that I didn't make myself for once). The burger was perfectly filling but I could definitely also eat a regular Mission with no issues since the patties are smooshed down. KIDS' CHEESEBURGER W/ FRIES (1 with a gluten-free bun), both $11.99 so no additional cost for GF: both my kids got this with nothing added in other than cheese and the smooshed impossible patty. The saddest looking burgers BUT they ate it! The gluten-free bun is a bit... flattened, but my kid ate half of it there and finished it on the car ride out of Austin. Then asked for another one. In fact, he's still asking for another one and it's been almost 2 weeks. My other kid (picky, no allergies) likes it as well, but didn't finish and not as much as her brother. But she definitely loved the fries. SMALL FRIES ($3.50): almost every order of burgers came with a side of fries. These are perfect, stayed delicious, and were perfectly seasoned. If you are gluten-sensitive or have a wheat allergy, do know they use a shared fryer for ALL their fried items. My kid with the food allergies couldn't eat them, just to be safe. COOKIES AND CREAM MILKSHAKE ($11.95): This is made with their soft serve and regular Oreo cookies. SO GOOD. My daughter and my vegan sister got one each. Not too sweet, hit the spot perfectly. I would like to suggest they offer a gluten-free version made with GF Oreos if they can figure out how to significantly eliminate cross contamination... or just use only GF Oreos. VANILLA SOFT SERVE ($3.99): fun fact - these are lentil protein based! Got this for my kid with the food allergies (he's allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, avocado, pineapple, kiwi) who prefers real dairy and he ate almost the entire cup! It's a pretty hefty serving. I had a taste and it's pretty good. Very close to the dairy version. We were thrilled with our visit. Everything tasted great! I loved how there isn't an additional cost for a gluten free bun (it's a little wonky shaped... irregularly flattened on top). My food allergy kid asked me to make him a burger because he misses the one he got here and he specifically requested for buns with a round top so it's apparently a sore spot with him. I also love how I could actually talk to someone and make well informed decisions on what we could order... and we ordered everything we could have (aside from desserts). I'm a bit sad Mission Burger is so far away, but I guess it just means we'll have to stop by Austin when we're in Texas again. Thank you for another amazing experience!

FREE Chocolate Chip Cookie - The cookies are definitely great--no crazy standout, but they had a distinct oat flavor. I can imagine sea salt would enhance the flavor even more. I love chocolate chip, though... and FREE is the best seasoning. Mushroom Truffle - We agreed to split these burgers 50/50, and bro zoned out while eating; I got like 1/4 of it. Hopefully that emphasizes how much he enjoyed this burger. The first thing I noticed was that the patty wasn't as thick. I do like their burgers and how they're medium-rare, but this one was much more packed with mushrooms, per the burger style. If it had the B&B patty, this would've been my favorite. Hold up--I did not know this was an Impossible patty. Not bad, but it does explain the difference in flavor. Still, it paired exceptionally well with the mushrooms. Black & Blue - Very deep flavors. I didn't like it as much as the Mushroom Truffle. In fact, I felt like this was way too saucy. The blue cheese didn't hold the show as much as the rest of the burger, and I'm a sucker for blue cheese. Like, inject Penicillin straight into my soul; obsessed. Anyways, it was just okay. My BFF and I agreed that these burgers are TENDER. Like, "didn't have to chew; it was a soft slush in my mouth" tender. Anyways, the sauce on both of these was on point--the first bite was a very obvious banger of flavors. Okay. I lied; these are ALL Impossible patties. Instantly changed the game because these were very well executed. On the way out, one of the workers (perhaps the owner) asked for our feedback. Apparently, many of these burgers are new menu items, and we got to hear a bit of their backstory (and got another FREE cookie). Some of the loveliest people I've met. I really love what they're doing here, and I'm glad they moved just 15 minutes away from our location. Wishing them the best!

I was a first time guest and I don't realize that I would have to go out the building to a side window. He had given me new updates on what's changed to Arlo's. He told me that they are no longer a good truck and moved to the ghost kitchen set-up out of the Lovebirds bar. He told me to order via the website and pick up at a side window. He even told me to call him back if the food isn't good. I ensured him that his food was the bomb diggity so there would be no need for a follow-up call. Whew Chile, if you're ever craving a BBQ burger, don't pass up the sweet, spicy, messy, and fulfilling goodness of this burger. Pair it with the tots and you got yourself a delicious meal. Speaking of the tots they are perfectly seasoned with salt. Big, juicy, thick ass burger. So good that you'd be in a food coma if you finish every bite in one sitting. Luckily I couldn't subject myself to continuous bed rest, I saved some for later so that I can continue to savor the luscious goodness. Absolute best as always!

It feels like these days, you're never truly taken care of. You walk inside a grocery store, and…read moreyou're forced to check yourself out. You visit a restaurant and you order via a kiosk and get your own beverages. Pretty soon, we'll be entering the doctor's office and drawing our own blood. But Fabrik? They take care of you like it's 1990 or something. I've never had a dining experience like this. For example, at one point, I went to the bathroom and left my crumpled up napkin on the table like some sort of barbarian. When I returned, the napkin was neatly folded and my silverware had been replaced. It was so shocking that I almost wanted to test it again. How many times would they fold it? Beyond the exceptional care by the staff, the food was absolutely divine. You can tell the chef planned every course with care and a knowledge of food I could only dream of obtaining. I had never been to a restaurant where you're served multiple small dishes over the course of two hours. I was honestly worried I'd leave still feeling hungry. I was wrong. So wrong. The last time I felt this full was Thanksgiving 2004 when my aunt accidentally made too many mashed potatoes. At one point during the Fabrik dining experience, I said out loud, "Oh my god," and then quickly remembered I was in a public setting. Every course was delicious. The bread, the pasta, the white bean dip, the banana miso mousse... IT''S ALL SO GOOD! If you're wondering, "Should I really spend this much money to eat?" the answer is yes. You should. Sell a kidney if you must. It doesn't have to be yours. Just sell a kidney.

Dinner at Fabrik is more than just dinner, it's an experience. From the sleek interior perfect for…read morea small group or intimate night out, to the plating and delicate fusion of flavors in every dish, every aspect of our meal seemed meticulously thought out and perfectly executed by Fabrik's wife and husband team Je and Silas Wallerstein. I was lucky enough to snag a table for three during Fabrik's earlier timeslot (5:45 p.m.) on a Friday night. I've been dreaming of visiting Fabrik since it first opened in 2023, so when I received an email about the opening of Fabrik's new Tarrytown location, I knew this was my chance. Fabrik's tasting menu costs $105 a person, with an extra optional wine pairing for $65. We opted to purchase a bottle of bubbles instead of the wine pairing, as the pairing includes approximately three glasses of wine (too much for us). Each course is a special expression of in season produce and other ingredients. Fabrik tries to use local ingredients whenever possible. Fabrik's friendly staff explain the details of each course to your table as they're serving. My favorite savory dish is "black and yellow" which features shiitake mushroom cappelletti in a corn cream reminiscent of corn chowder, served alongside corn madeleines (the first savory expression of a madeleine I've ever seen). Another favorite is the "verdant" featuring scalloped potatoes with homemade cabbage and topped with an aromatic lemongrass hollandaise tableside. After telling friends about our visit to Fabrik, multiple people asked if I was full after a fully vegan meal. A resounding yes. Each plate is on the smaller end, which is necessary because there are eight courses. The last three courses are sweet, which is a delight for those of us with a sweet tooth. My favorite sweet course is the "open sesame" with banana miso mousse and roasted banana compote, served alongside a crunchy black sesame sable. This dish is topped with an extremely realistic "leaf" made solely of banana and sugar, showing the true artistry of this restaurant. Our meal ended with a delicate yuzu macaron topped with a butterfly, which was the perfect citrusy end to an otherwise equally superb meal. Each member of my group left with bellies full and dreams of our favorite courses. After visiting this unique spot, it's easy to see why Fabrik is Michelin recommended. This was maybe my favorite meal I've ever had in Austin. Fabrik's tasting menu changes seasonally, so we tried their "Summer" menu during our August visit. I hope to return for their winter dishes. Try Fabrik for a night to remember, if you can snag a reservation.

Fry Let me tell you…read moreabout FTG. The little food truck in the back of a sweet-ass dive bar called Mama Dearest. Do you wanna know about the dive bar? You'll have to check out my other review. But just know it's filled with weird taxidermy and novelty items that are one of a kind. But I digress. Back to the food. I would like to tell you I tried everything on the menu as many times as I came here. But alas, only four or five things. Unfortunately, their pierogies are the best thing I've ever had. Not just in Austin, but ever. I am now desperately seeking pierogies that rival FTG's. It's not just the pierogies themselves... but the sauce, it would make angels sing. Every time I tried something new, my heart would long for the pierogies. I finally gave in to my desires and quit trying other new things. I think next time I go back I'm just going to ask strangers if I can have a bite of their food, so I can say I've tried everything. But until then, this review is for what I have tried. After the pierogies. My next favorite things in order. Fried chicken (perfectly crisp bites), jerk chicken (little spicy, not dry, perfect), chilli (so spicy), gnocchi. The cheesecake would technically rank after the pierogies, but because they're a dessert I don't wanna mess up the order here and confuse y'all. The two dudes that work this truck, are here EVERY time. I'm pretty sure the only days they take off is Mondays and Tuesdays. Tell them the girl from Kansas City with a big dog sent to you. Lastly. Know that you won't find this place overrun with college kids or snotty hipsters. Just regular people enjoying a good dive bar.

Rating: 2.7/5 [Postmates delivery]…read more We were so excited to try FTG's food, especially given its high Yelp rating. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely disappointing. The meats were unforgivably dry, though everything else was good. Steak & Zab ($22): The zab, a mix of green beans, mushrooms, and broccoli tossed in salsa macha with sabayon, was actually enjoyable. I liked the flavors, but it was a bit too creamy/saucy for my husband (likely due to the sabayon). The steak, however, was dry and very chewy. Asian Style Spare Ribs ($17): This came with a 1/3 rack of spare ribs, a Thai cabbage salad, and five-spice fried potatoes. The potatoes were fire, and the salad was solid. But again, the meat missed the mark--super dry for the most part. We tried dipping it in the sabayon and other sauces to add moisture, but it didn't help. The fish sauce glaze didn't come through either. The only redeeming quality was the generous portion size.
