This place is just OK. Not great, not bad, just OK. The food is standard "midwestern safe" with lots of cheese and little heat. Nothing really jumps out as a "must have this again!" They also don't seem to understand that some people want corn tortillas so even when you ask for them, you get flour. Then if you remind them, you pretty much just have to eat without as it takes so long to get what you had asked for in the first place, everyone else is done eating. read more

I loved Milos' so I was curious about this new place. I didn't know what kind of restaurant it was. I was pleased that it was mexican and not owned by the folks that own most other mexican restaurants in town. The service was terrific and the food was excellent. I had the Fajitas Hawaiian with steak...sooo good. There are so many choices on the menu...so much looked really really good ! And the location is good for me. One of the reasons I loved Milos' so much was the atmosphere...Casa Del Mar is the same...attractive and cozy. I will be back. read more

The food was excellent made from fresh ingredients, clean, and reasonably priced. Staff was friendly and helpful. We sat at a table that overlooked a very attractive park with a lake. There are tables outside that overlook the lake also. They have a nice ala carte menu that is helpful if you are traveling and want to eat light and/or cannot take it with you. read more

Me and my girlfriend came here for lunch. We shared the Chicken on the Beach (dinner version) and it was amazingly tasty! Simple concept consisting of chicken, Spanish rice, and queso, but with all the different flavors attacking all the right taste buds, we left the restaurant satisfied! This is an amazing Mexican restaurant. My favorite by far. They have the best tacos and California Fries I have ever had. They also had amazing Queso cheese dip. Margaritas are incredible and sensibly valued. Climate and view are additionally extraordinary! When all is said in done however, the nourishment is really dull. In case you're searching for the best Mexican nourishment, this presumably isn't your most logical option. This is really a 3 1/2 star place, but I couldn't round up to 4. Very similar to El Patio or El Toro in Champaign. Good, but nothing special. If I'm driving to Urbana for Mexican, Huraches is a much better option. This place isn't nearly as flavorful as Huraches and is more expensive. Pretty standard Mexican fare. Got the beef enchiladas which were great and my wife had the chori pollo which she raved about. Pricing and portions are on par with other Mexican restaurants in the area but the location is what stands out about Casa del Mar as it is close to where we live. The interior is clean and well lit and there's plenty of seating. We went on a Monday night and there was quite a few people dining in as well. Despite this, we were able to have a conversation without having to talk over the din that is present in other restaurants. read more

Such great service! Our waiter was constantly checking on us to make sure that we had everything we needed, and not to the point where it's annoying. Our drink glasses were never empty. The staff was extremely polite and everyone worked together to make sure everyone had what they needed. The food was DELICIOUS! Authentic Mexican and just so good. I love seafood, and I love Mexican food. Casa Del Mar offers the best of both worlds - what an adorable restaurant ! Located at the Pines, a serene spot in south Urbana, it is clean, nice, and inviting, with plenty of parking around. The food is excellent - the cooks in their kitchen know what they are doing. I usually opt for Horchata as drink, but my friends enjoyed the Margaritas. Service was very welcoming and kind. If you want a Mexican dinner on a little more fancy (yet affordable) setting - that's the place for you. read more

Run of the mill Mexican fare. Some things are pretty good, the molcajete for example, others are just not very good. The last few times we have visited the salsa has tasted rancid and like it was made with canned tomatoes. I had high hopes for this place as I prefer to support local establishments, but if you are a Mexican restaurant and you can't even get salsa right... There are much better options in C-U. read more
