Really nice aesthetic. Open kitchen, with plenty of bar seating. My group ordered the charcuterie board to start and lunch size portion pasta for entrees.

This is a beautiful restaurant!! Love the decor, the copper and the low bar. Service was great, from the time we walked in the door we were taken care of. The food was really good! The meatballs were probably the outstanding dish from our dinner, but everything was good!! Looking forward to a return trip!

Meatballs at the Casa Don Alfonso in the Ritz-Carlton, Clayton

Extremely fancy and quite expensive, Casa Don Alfonso is in the Ritz-Carlton hotel. My colleagues chose it because they were staying in that hotel and didn't want to go too far. I knew it was going to be a spendy meal from the moment we walked in. Beautifully decorated and warmly welcomed, the hostess did check to see if we had a reservation which we did not. No worries, a bigger table was available and in fact, the restaurant remained 3/4ths empty on this cold Midwest evening. Appetizers are $20 and up. Main courses run from $30 and up. You could do some real damage here and we did not. Four baskets of their fabulous bread were consumed with tap water for most. I chose the meatballs (they have a fancy Italian name on the menu) and they were delicious. Three medium sized pieces, in a marinara and cream sauce. inside, beautifully stuffed and cooked perfectly. Are those pine nuts? Yes, those are pine nuts. We opted to skip dessert. Our meal landed at $250 plus tip which included one round of drinks, no starters and no desserts. They have valet parking, there is some limited street parking and the hotel has a parking deck but it's on the far side of the building. [Review 28 of 2025 - 408 in Missouri - 23600 overall]

Being in Clayton, there is no free parking. Inviting and elegant space with comfy seating. We made reservations for their Brunch. Service was excellent and the staff were friendly. There was plenty of variety n but I expected a few more options. Perhaps I was just not a fan of the two specials they had (duck lo mein and an Italian seafood soup). Black coffee was complimentary but it was 8 to 10 dollars for a mocha or latte. I did like the variety of sweets and desserts. The charcuterie area was a nice touch, but could be improved with a cracker or bread selection although I could have overlooked it.

This is a tough review to write. When you know a place is fabulous and you've had great experiences before, your expectations are high as they always deliver. Until they don't. This was that visit. Disappointed actually. Normally, this place is a 10 out of 10 on every level from service to food to atmosphere!! I highly recommend you go there. And I won't stop going back. But, I didn't have a great visit recently. I want to point out a few things that contributed to it. I highly recommend don't be one of the first people there. I started to make a 515p table reservation but since I was only five minutes away, I decided to just walk up . When I was making the reservation, the table was open. All I had to do is secure with a credit card. I decided since I was less than 5 minutes away. I would just drive there and get there shortly before my reservation time I was going to make when I arrived. I was told the desk that there were no table reservations. They were full. I'd have to sit in the lounge or bar. Mind you there's, not a soul in the restaurant. I understand they have to account for a certain amount of time for dinner reservations, but I was just able to book it online and now they're telling me they can't seat me. Lesson number one: always make a reservation. Since I was near the check-in desk, I watched people check in and if you had a reservation, there was a different tone and treatment. Interesting. Hmmm Since we were there before 5:15 and no one was in the restaurant there were a lot of employees standing around waiting for the evening rush . I could hear their check-in to get the shift started. They were very loud to the point not paying attention to the customer. I had to ask for plates for the pizza. I had to ask for my water to be refilled. Also, they served hot pepper flakes in a ramekin with no way to dispense it. Putting my fingers into hot pepper flakes is not something I want to do. I didn't have a spoon only a fork and a knife, shaking it out dumped too much. Lesson number two don't go right when the shift begins. The customer service was not the same early in the evening. The focaccia bread was the best I've ever had so soft delicious. The pizza was OK maybe it was the one I chose. The tiramisu was out of this world presentation was next level highly recommend. My review of the drinks are mixed. There's a lot of infusion and fancy cocktails which doesn't always mean it taste great. Next time I go back I'll stick to what I know and what I love from them. I would advise that they move their check-in desk or make it clear as to where to go as people keep coming in from the lobby, going straight to the bar and not knowing where to check in because you can't see the desk when you enter from the lobby side. The majority of the people that night were coming in from the lobby and couldn't see the desk. I would also recommend that on the website when you're making a reservation that they put a banner at the top to tell you about the parking garage entrance into the hotel under construction, and I was guided to walk back outside and down the sidewalk. It was 98°. It would've been nice to avoid that if I would've known. Once again, I highly recommend this place. Excellent food, great ambience. it's a beautiful place. And that's probably why having a not so great visit bothered me, but not to the point that I won't go back but I've learned my lesson.

Visited Casa to try out their happy hour and the much-hyped spritz tower. Unfortunately, we missed the patio happy hour window--it had ended and the outdoor space was too cold. Luckily, we were still able to get the happy hour pricing indoors. The spritzes looked fun but tasted a bit watered down. I've never been a huge fan of Casa overall--the food tends to be underwhelming and slightly overpriced. The space itself is beautiful, but in my opinion, the ambiance doesn't quite make up for what's lacking in the food. The service was really great, though!

Such a great spot. Huge restaurant and bar area and a lively and bright ambiance. You can sit at the bar and watch your food being made and all of the staff are wearing the chef hats and outfits- love it. Have come here for a few different birthdays and always have a great time. The espresso martini is delicious and they have a number of other really good drinks like their limoncello and aperol spritzes. Their pizza is made in their ovens and it's always fantastic. The octopus app is delicious. The meatballs have pine nuts in it to give it some texture- I am not a huge fan, but others may be. The lasagna is good too. You can't go wrong with any of it! For dessert, their tiramisu is fantastic and so is their affogato. I do wish they made birthdays more special- I mentioned it in our online reservation and then again to our waitress both times and nothing was done for either birthday we celebrated here. Kind of a bummer. This is the only reason I knocked off a star- I would expect a restaurant this great to at least provide a dessert for birthdays or jazz up a plate. Overall experience was great- we will be back!

    Stunning entrance!

Where to start??? How about the entrance, which is gorgeous! You can't help but look up to admire the beautiful glass fixtures giving St. Louis a serious Italian glow up. As a smaller table, we were seated in the bar which was kind of a mixed bag. We had a rock star view into the open kitchen which gave vibes from The Bear. Which, ok, but the chairs and table were fixed in place. So there's no scooting your chair in or adjusting the table. Odd. It probably makes sense for a bar but not when you are eating your dinner. We were here for Clayton's iconic Restaurant Week because no way can I afford a $35 salad. So I got the Prix Fixe menu with wine flight so I could eat like a queen. And whoa - I mean....that $35 salad just might be worth it! It was the burrata caprese salad, very simple, with arugula, hand torn burrata, pesto and the freshest, most flavorful cherry tomatoes I have had so far this summer. Arugula is not normally my favorite but someone knows what they are doing! This salad was amazing! I got the prime strip steak with potatoes, which I tried to substitute for the grilled asparagus but no deal. Someone else let me know about the asparagus because I spent my asparagus money on the wine flight. The steak literally sang in my mouth. It was seasoned and cooked beautifully! And the potatoes were delicious, so fair. Dessert was a pretty little white chocolate shell with white chocolate mousse and a spot of lemon compote in the middle. It was the perfect light touch at the end of a pretty heavy meal. Servers checked on us constantly but not intrusively. Overall, our meal was excellent and everything I thought it would be. See you next year!

Went back to Casa Don Alfonso last night. Thank you to Greg Gerber for inviting us back. The Parmesan cheese wheel pasta was fantastic. We had lovely service from Rosmery, Tim and Sebastian. I've forgotten who made our pasta but he was great and explained how he was making the pasta. It is very rich, delicious and topped with truffles. It's a stunning restaurant and has a beautiful outdoor eating area. Will be back to try brunch! Thank you again Casa Don Alfonso! Highly recommend!

Let me start off by saying, you really feel like you're being pampered here. My boyfriend took me to Casa Don Alfonso for a date and honestly, the ambience makes the trip worth it in itself. I loved looking into the kitchen, watching the chefs work, and admiring the copper accents of the cookware and the walls themselves. We got valet ($10), my coat was taken from me right away, and our server was very kind and attentive to our questions. In terms of food, I'd say they really excel in one thing: the bread. Everything else was good, don't get me wrong, but it was the bread in each of the dishes that really stood out to me. A few of the dishes fell short in other areas, and I sometimes felt like the flavor pairings/ratios or textures weren't quite right. But for the Ritz, and with the atmosphere there, it's something you can overlook for a nice dinner. Here's what we tried: Burrata Caprese Salad: 9/10 - The pizza bread was what really shined here. It's soft, doughy, and yet nutty and flavorful. I loved it, and paired with the creamy burrata and the zingy pesto, it was a great bite. A good sized app for two! Quattro Formaggi Pizza: 7.9/10 - I really loved the crust here. It tasted and felt like it was straight from Italy (and I've been!). I do think that the cheese/topping was too creamy/thin though, because it was hard for us to eat the pizza without it falling apart everywhere. I also thing they could've added a bit of citrus or something fresh besides the arugula to balance out just how insanely rich this 'za is. Potato Gnocchi Spheres: 7/10 - These are good, as the flavors are very classic. You get your ricotta, your marinara, and your pasta. I do wish there was a bit more contrast of texture, as it was all soft/mushy, but flavor-wise, I found it really comforting. This is a small-ish portion of 3 medium sized spheres. Italian Gelato: 5/10 - Ugh I really wish I could rate this better. I actually LOVED the Hazelnut gelato, as it had actual hazelnuts in it (bonus for texture!) and the flavor was rich and smooth. The dark chocolate gelato was a big let down, though. It was grainy/icy, and was ridiculously bitter in a way that doesn't even make sense for dark chocolate. We ended up leaving it untouched. Dark Chocolate "Vesuvio": 7.7/10 - I really loved the chocolate outside of the lava cake, and it was very molten inside. I'm not sure how I feel about the addition of the cherry flavor and the whole cherries, but that might be because I'm a huge chocolate enthusiast (and perhaps a purist?). The vanilla ice cream on the side was also a perfect pairing to the chocolatey dessert.

Have very mixed reviews of Casa. The bar is amazing- would recommend anyone get a drink at the bar because it's stunning. The whole restaurant is stunning really. We had dinner here (larger group) and the food came Out very late and was cold- our whole meal ended up being comped which was very appreciated and makes me think the kitchen was just having an off night. On another occasion, we had high tea and everything was beautiful and tasty. Definitely a more expensive restaurant in St. Louis but it's so beautiful so worth it for a special event.

    Holiday cocktail tree
    Megan M.

I finally tried Casa don Alfonso recently with some friends. We went to try the holiday cocktail tree, and WOW it did not disappoint it is a set list of 4 drinks and the tree comes with 2 of each. They were well balanced drinks, we loved all of them and we each had a different favorite. The pasta is house made and delicious but it is rather small serving sizes, leaving plenty of room for dessert. We got the Apple Pizza dessert to split and were pleasantly surprised by it. It was a full size pizza! It was delicious, highly recommend. Service is very polite and helpful but they are a little slower and don't come by often. It was a little bit of a wait to get our bills after we asked but it was a good experience overall.

This was so good; we came here the whole week we were in St. Louis for lunch! The office I was working in was on the same block as Pastaria Deli & Wine, so a less than five-minute walk from the office, so no driving or need to hail an Uber was awesome. Inside there are wine bottles all over the walls and it just has this cozy, Italian café/deli vibe. Depending on when you get there, the line to the cash register can snake out the door, but it moves pretty fast. There's a surprising number of tables inside and since the weather was nice, there were several tables out in front. Each day, we had the same cashier, Carly (I believe that's her name). Carly was incredibly bubbly, cute, fun! Once we placed our order, we received a metal tag with a number on it and found a table. I didn't order any sort of specialty drink; I took advantage of the free water located near the back of the restaurant. The time from when we placed our order to getting our lunch was pretty quick, even when the place was packed for lunch. So for the three days I was in St. Louis, I ordered these three sandwiches: 1. Il Capo Italiano: Lemon ricotta, mortadella, soppressata, mozzarella, giardiniera, salted potato chips (Miss Vickie's most likely), arugula, red wine vinegar, & extra virgin olive oil on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - A jam-packed sandwich! The lemon ricotta was amazing and the crunch from the salted potato chips was excellent. Beware that this sandwich is heavy on the oils, so be prepared to "wear" this sandwich the rest of the day unless you brought your toothbrush. haha This sandwich was plenty thick, the slices of mozzarella really helped to make this sandwich thick and filling. 2. Volpi Heritage Prosciutto: Volpi Heritage prosciutto, butter, lemon olive oil, & house-made giardiniera on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The lemon olive oil was a very pleasant flavor, not too strong. Of the three sandwiches I ordered, this was the smallest in terms of fillings but it was still plenty filling for lunch with a bag of Miss Vicky's Spicy Dill Pickle chips! 3. Chicken Bacon Ranch: Thin sliced chicken breast, bacon, smoked cheddar cheese, tomato, arugula, banana peppers, & jalapeno-ricotta ranch on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The sliced chicken breast was piled on thick and the bacon was a welcome addition. There was plenty arugula and banana peppers inside but the jalapeno-ricotta ranch elevated this! Creamy with a slight spicy kick to it. I didn't have one bad meal here and for the quality and quantity, I felt the prices were pretty reasonable, especially in the year 2026. Pastaria Deli & Wine is an awesome lunch spot! The friendly staff, cool, authentic Italian-vibes, fast service, and the quality food, it comes together here! I can't wait to come back through St. Louis for work and stop in here again for lunch, maybe I'll even treat myself to some of their gelato!

The Best Dining Experience We've Had in St. Louis - Hands Down…read moreMy husband and I wanted to give our dear friends who are leaving St. Louis one last unforgettable meal from their bucket list, so I immediately recommended Peno. I used to be a regular at Rosé with the same talented Chef Pepe, and his food is truly to die for. We walked in on a beautiful day and were lucky to snag a spot in their small parking lot (parking in the area isn't the easiest, but it's worth it). Our server, Harry, made the evening even better right from the start. He had such a warm, calm, professional presence--the kind that's rare these days. We instantly remembered his name thanks to a fun Harry Potter / Harry and the Hendersons reference, and he handled everything with effortless skill. When our friends had parking trouble, Harry quickly offered helpful suggestions. Then, when it was time to order, he elevated our meal in the best way possible. My husband and I got our longtime favorite--the Roberto pizza from Rosé days--and Harry suggested adding sausage and peppers. That small tweak took something we already loved and made it 1000% better. Absolute perfection. Our friend ordered the spaghetti (her all-time favorite comfort meal), and after taking Harry's thoughtful recommendation, she declared it the best spaghetti she's ever had in her life. We finished with the cheesecake. I'm extremely picky about cheesecake, but this one did not disappoint--it was creamy, rich, and flawless. This was one of those legendary meals you remember forever. The kind where you leave thinking you could die happy. Chef Pepe's food, paired with Harry's outstanding service, made it a perfect night. If you're in St. Louis, do yourself a favor and go to Peno. You won't regret it. Thank you, Harry and team--you helped create a truly special send-off for our friends!

The seating host and servers we met during this experience were very nice. I ordered the mushroom coffee: forest & meadow mushroom medicinal powder, served with a shot of espresso. I received a large, hot mug of beverage with artistic crema decor. Could not discern mushroom flavor save the grit at the bottom of the cup, but I can now say I've tried it. My eggs and salad dish came out next, along with an order of their toasted sourdough bread, butter and jam I ordered (their specialty). Unfortunately, the toast was cold, as was the liquidy fruit jam. Butter was ice cold out of the frig too since it has been forgotten and needed to be retrieved. The small green salad was fresh and tasty, but the two scrambled eggs were cold and rubbery. It was hard to know who was out server because aside from the seating hostess, four more people arrived, one after the other, at varying times to get the meal and forgotten items to our small party of three. I was left feeling that more training and organized timing of meals is needed at this establishment.
