Casa Imperial is wonderful! This is one of the authentic Mexican restaurants I've found in Houston. I love the salsa and chips and you know when it's real and tasty it's the best. I also love the carne guisada and stuffed avocado. The charo beans and Spanish rice are delicious. I would tell you if the rice and beans are bad. These are just as good as mine. In my mind the food is so temperature that it's un edible when it's bright out. There is no need for the food to be at the temperature and there's such distinct smell in that restaurant at all times don't know what it is. It's a very strong, stale smell therefore I would not highly recommend this place at all. read more

It's open 24 hours so I didn't have high expectations. Lots of food. All this was 18 bucks. Granted that includes a 4% card fee. But I didn't tip because I got takeout. Had to try the notorious Tex Mex before I left and yes, it's pretty bland, sorry. Quantity over quality. The tortillas are good but basically no seasoning and all grease on the fajitas. Cute spot and it worked for me feeling to sick to go anywhere. I appreciate the God Loves Texas in front. This must be up there with the worst Mexican food restaurants. Let's start with the chips and salsa. Chips tasted stale, had a plastic smell and not salted. Red salsa had a mild flavor, watery texture. Green salsa lacked flavor and the same consistency with the watery texture. Ordered the shredded chicken taco with a corn tortilla à la carte. Tortilla was nothing worth mentioning, shredded chicken was very dry. This was accompanied with shredded lettuce and chopped tomato. Two thumbs down on the taco. Ordered the rice and charro bean à la carte. Rice was lukewarm and tasted old and like it's been reheated too many times. Beans lacked flavor. Service was attentive. Overall food quality wasn't an impressive trait for this restaurant so we will not return. read more

Chips weren't fresh and seemed stale. Salsa was ok. Soda flat. Chili con queso, cheese enchiladas & rice had absolutely no flavor. The enchiladas were stuck to the bottom of the plate. The Chile Rellenos were Anaheim, not Poblano and the sauce tasted like mole. No one checked on us after the food was plopped down either. Bathroom 100°. No, no, no...not again! We proceed to order queso and it was disgusting . Tasted like melted cheese wiz. The chips were stale, our sodas were flat. My plate came with a taco. And no exaggeration, I've had better tacos at taco bell and school cafeteria. The beans were watery and flavorless. The rice was smushy and flavorless as well. Enchiladas were the worst I've ever had in my life. I only ate 2 bites and told the waitress I couldn't eat it because it was horrible. She just said " oh" and walked off. It's time to update my review from 2014. I occasionally visit this restaurant with this being my second time this year. Last weekend I ordered the shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas and charro beans for $16.50. First to come out were the chips and salsas. I have always thought Casa Imperial has some of the better chips and salsas in Houston and I still feel that way. Nice and crunchy chips with a deliciously red salsa and nice avocado salsa. I eat too many of them. The entree arrived about 10 minutes later. The small bowl of charro beans had plenty of content and flavor. The fajitas were very good too but I wish they had given me a little more onion. Table service was prompt and attentive. Casa Imperial is an above average Tex Amex restaurant with a big menu and plenty of parking in front. read more

Soooo I've been coming to Casa Imperial for several years now, it's very close to work and convenient, quick for lunch! Very consistent in quality, meaning I have not had any odd visits where food was cold, not right. I think a forgotten charro beans sub for refried is the only order I've ever had come out wrong, and that's minor easy fix. Staff deserve a raise... bc... The staff are the 1st star of the show!, and why I love eating here, they are great. From being attentive, to giving you space while you're chomping down on a bite, they balance that perfectly. No, this is not rock star- knock your socks off amazing Mexican food. But it IS very good, fast, hot, tasty, consistent with amazing service. Food is good. I ordered the chicken flautas. The salsa is not spicy and could use some salt. To the cook - don't be afraid to make spicy salsa. Studies show that men like their salsa to be extremely spicy. Women are in the middle. The rice has good texture but needs a dash of salt. Beans were good & the Chicken flautas had a delicious flavor. Everything was hot and fresh. Ready in 10 mins for pick up. Im really surprised this came out good. My only complaint is the salsa. Not just with us, we observed this same issue with the other customers as well!! She had a helper didn't get his name, he asked if we wanted another margarita and well at the time we didn't because we weren't finished with the one we had‍ So we said no, then he told Angie to give us our check immediately assuming we were completely done, I asked Angie what time they close she said 10pm, wow!! It was only 3pm and so I told her they acted as if they were fixing to close by the way they were rushing us out of there!! ‍ didn't even ask if we were interested in dessert which we were and well once we finished our margaritas we definitely wanted another one plus some Sopapillas for dessert. When we asked Angie for Sopapillas she said she would not suggest them because they're to dried and customers complain about them all the time‍ So I asked if they can make them fresh and of course the answer was NO! Even the manager came by and said the same thing and that they were looking for another recipe to avoid the issue Anyway going back our check.. it listed our margaritas at $4:50 their menu showed $3.50 when I pointed that out Angie got the manager involved her name I think was Mindy, she claimed that all menus showed $4.50 I didn't care about the other menus I cared about the menu in my hands that showed $3.50!! I told her! I asked if she would honor that price and guess what?? You're right she said NO, cause the owner is on vacation and she did not have the authority to do so wow!' Some manager...what kind of manager has no authority to over ride a simple $2.00 total‍ We didn't have an issue paying $4.50 per margarita so I really didn't make a big deal although I did tell her she was ripping us off by charging us more then the price listed on the menu and she agreed! of course because it was true! Now all of this over $2.00 ‍ that's nothing!! It's all about the principles of this place!!! Admit it was wrong and honor your mistakes!! First time trying this place and we were pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is great. I tried the menudo while my husband ordered the caldo de res (which they only serve on the weekend). Very tasty! The service was great as well. They were very attentive. I will start off with the good. This location has a very friendly staff. They seemed eager to help and we got good service quickly. They have an extensive menu with various offerings. Unfortunately , that is where my recounting of the good ends. I ordered the taco plate. This came with two hard shell tacos and a side of rice and beans. I have never tasted taco meat (ground beef) that was so bland. There was absolutely no flavor to it and so I had to spoon in salsa to give it any taste. Either the lettuce (of which there was far too much) was wet or there was too much liquid still left in the taco meat pot, because my hard shell taco was instantly soggy and very hard to eat. Just ordered the master chef special. Everything was hot, but was old. The bacon wrapped shrimp looked as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. Both the chicken and beef were dry. Rice ice cold. It literally looks as if someone ordered this around noon and it's been reheated and sold to us. For over $60 bucks, not including fees, I'm extremely disappointed. Had a Monday night meal here with my family. First I will start with the salsa and chips. Red and green and both were delicious. The red had seeds in it that brought the heat. I appreciate that but some may not enjoy. The green salsa was cooler but still had some kick to it. Mine order was the chicken flautas. The chicken inside was slightly dry and I felt that it could have done with some marinating sauce inside to help with flavor. I did eat all three and they were still enjoyable. Sour cream and guacamole were nothing special, same for rice and beans. Perhaps a freshly made guacamole would have set it off but I don't think that it was. For a family of four it was under 50.
