Mexican food is the bomb all the time in my opinion! I always try to see what other places have to compare them to the other Mexican food places. The staff here frequently checks on you, the interior is nicely designed, and there is a small patio for outdoor seating. Even though it's located right next to Firestone, it's a nice little area to try this chain. My grandmother and I ate here a few times, and we always love to try new things every time we come here. I got the beef fajitas last time around, and they weren't too bad. Nicely cooked, a sizzling plate when they arrived, and grilled onions to top it off with some nicely breaded tortillas. In the past, I've eaten enchiladas and tacos here. They aren't my favorite in this location because the enchiladas are sometimes undercooked. Likewise, the tacos taste a little bland inside the shell, but the fajitas makes up for all of the food that is here. A meal for one individual is reasonable, and it only cost $14. The queso is nice and tasty, even though I may try more entrees the next time I travel into this restaurant. Overall, it's a nice place for a small lunch, and I always look forward to delicious Mexican food anywhere I go. read more

We stopped here on a whim. We wanted to try a new place. The service was excellent, the wait staff were friendly and helpful. However, the food was not good. I order the carne guisada. The plate was extremely hot to the touch and messy, the guisado sauce was all over the plate. The rice and beans were so hot to the point that they weren't edible. I have been coming to this location for many many years. There are extensive menu offers quite a few options these days. I revisited the place on a whim due to being in that area. They've added so much more to the menu, the service is still fantastic and the margaritas of course are wonderful! They are always busy, but they always have a seat. I literally have to drag myself away from this place every time I come here! The food is mediocre, but they make up for it with giant portion sizes so you get a full belly for your money. What I love so much about this place is the service. They are quick, efficient, and always on point with refills and checking in on you to make sure everything is okay. They never rush you to leave, even if you've stayed pass the closing hour for about 45 minutes. They always have a smile ready for you too. They have a full bar, and a smoking area. I love getting the bloody marys there, it's got some good alcohol content to it. They always have upbeat music playing (in Spanish) and on certain nights there is live music even. Let me start off by saying this, the staff is friendly and the price is reasonable. I been coming here for many years, but that came to an end! I was sitting at a table and i couldn't believe what I was seeing. I saw more then 1 employee use their BARE HANDS to get chips out of the chip warmer. I counted 3 waiters doing this and EVEN THE MANAGER!!!! (The one who always greets you at the door). Now, what really disgust me was that they reuse the chips. That's right. I saw one of the guys clean a table, picked up the basket of chips that was left over and he dumped it back in the warmer. This just makes me think how are the cooks in the kitchen?! This is my all time favorite Tex-Mex spot. It is not fancy. The food is Tex-Mex all the way....and delicious! I have been going there regularly for over a decade, and its still my favorite. Two margaritas bring that perfect happy feeling. The Tampico dinner is strait up good. The Carne Asada comes to the table smothered in a fantastic tomato, pepper and onion sauce. The staff is always friendly and recognizes us each visit. I LOVE Casa Imperial. Oh...and on weekends..they have a one man band who signs everything from friends in low places, to YMCA. My colleagues and I drive quite a long distance to visit this place. We really enjoy "It's Ribs" across the street... but, well, Casa Imperial usually wins-out. Aesthetically, it's nothing special (nor is it bad). The food, however, has been consistently quite good, of great quantity (I was unable to finish the $8 lunch fajitas), and very reasonably priced. To be clear: this is, of course, Tex-Mex. There are probably only two good Mex-Mex restaurants in Houston (neither are inexpensive). So, this is solid Tex-Mex on the cheap. I've been coming here for over a decade. It was our favorite Mexican place. But something has changed in the last 6 months with the recipes. I thought it was just me and being pregnant. Things tend to taste saltier or whatever when I'm pregnant. But every time my enchiladas were sweet tasting, specifically the sauce. My husband even noticed a slight difference in his usual dish and that the queso isn't as thick. It's a shame bc we love the atmosphere, people and food. But since it doesn't taste as good, we are starting to look for a new Mexican place. Whatever changes were made, they need to go back to the old recipes. Good food. Large portions. Cheap prices. Polite Staff. I never get the same thing, so i will not describe everything on the menu but I will say when I do feel like getting something familiar i choose the fajita taco salad. mmm mmm good. The only problem i have ever encountered here was that i had found a peice of plastic from the lettuce in my salad however, this was not a problem. As soon as I brought it to their attention I had a brand new one infront of me within minutes. This place is hassle free, quick, and they remember their customers. My only warning is they do allow smoking in half of the resturaunt, if you are allergic to smoke I would not reccommend this place. I have been here a couple times before and the last time made me want to douse myself in gasoline in their parking lot, light a match and go up in flames for my stupidity in choosing to dine here. I'm about to tell you why: Let's start with chips and queso. The chips taste like they were made with cook's dirty diaper remnants rather than ground up corn to make tortilla chips. The queso tasted like they churn it inside an actual butt hole to get the real authentic butt hole flavor. It was also lumpy and powdery. One time I got a chicken quesadilla and it looked like Ray Charles made the thing and Stevie Wonder distributed the cheese in it. A 5 year old Helen Keller would have made a better quesadilla. They serve what they call margaritas but they do not taste like margarita. They taste like something that came out of the bartender's broccoli blower. The last time i ate here I ordered a sauteed piece of chicken. It tasted funny and made me vomit and butt piss 1 hour after ingestion. DO NOT go to this place. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the Imperial dinner. I was planning to order from lunch menu but I could not decide so I went with the Imperial dinner. My plate consisted of 1 crispy taco 2 enchilads 1 chile rellano rice, beans, guacamole, and a salad (just lettuce and tomato). This dinner is served with 2 plates coming out in sequence first you are served the crispy taco with the guacamole and salad a chip puff basically a nacho chip. The next plate is the enchiladas chile rellano and rice and beans. My second plate was served piping hot which tells me it was baked like it should be. The gravy on enchildas was on point not too spicy and not bland. Meat used was high quality not meat from tubs. My chile rellano was served without breading I have never seen this before but tasted very good no star off for that. Service was great tea refilled and checked upon twice. I want to give this place 3.5, but I'll go with a 4 considering I've eaten there just once and don't want to ding it. I chanced upon this restaurant on one of my Craigslist furniture pick up runs. Hubs and I were desperately hungry and we didn't mind trying a random place out. Being a vegetarian, of course, I always enquire if there's lard in the beans. The friendly waiter said "Some do, but we'll get you no lard one friend" (all the staff addresses you as "friend" btw, lol cute). So I got chille relleno stuffed with spinach, potatoes & cheese baked in enchilada sauce with a side of rice, guac and whole beans. It wasn't spicy enough for my liking, but all that cheese tasted very good to my ravenous self. The portion was HUGE for the price. And I mean HUGE. There were also a few good vegetarian options like veggie fajitas, veggie burrito and popeye enchiladas. The place looks pretty fun/cool with all the flags and colorful decor. The music was kinda crappy and jarring though. Lots of gringo families eating there, mayhaps the reason why none of their salsas or food were spicy? Now was the food out of this world? This place is a secret gem! Can't tell you how sad I was after living on this side of town for 10 years and just now discovering that Casa Imperial was in my own backyard this whole time!
