I want to say this is the best Mexican Restaurant in Barstow. You get big portions of food that is delicious. Salsa is good too. My biggest rave is about their MICHELADAS. Huge mugs and they taste so good and for only $7.00!!! I reccomend this place for sure. I dont even mind the 'stuffed' animals. Large portions of food for a really good price I had the number 45 which is a wet burrito and had a choice of asada or carnitas. Great stop on the way back from Laughlin. We were promptly greeted with a smile and seated quickly. I'll make this short and sweet. Chips weren't warm, but they had good crunch and flavor. Red salsa was delish. Guac was so-so. A little lemon-y for my tastes. I had chicken fajitas - they were great. Chicken was tender and flavorful, onions and red, green, and yellow peppers were grilled to perfection. Warm corn tortillas are made fresh to order - great as well. Cheese enchilada was good, not great. Rice & beans up to par. Carlos served us with a smile and friendly attitude. Don't do it!!! I found the end piece of a cooks rubber glove in my soup! The owner asked me if I wanted something else so I agreed thinking it would be comped, nope they didn't comp it. When I asked for a discount at least since I had to wait for my food while our party of 8 ate, the owner said "we don't do that here". Rude and inconsiderate. They ended up giving us $3 dollars off after I insisted they gave us at least some kind of discount but you could tell the owner was not happy about it. Sad part is that it was a tradition for my entire family that consists of 100+ people to stop by after driving home from Vegas to Riverside even though the food wasn't the greatest but it won't be happening anymore. Chips and salsa was not good should have stopped there,your Mexican food have pride in your salsa! I ordered crispy chicken taco and Chile relleno combo it was decent,tasty rice! My bf ordered crab enchiladas which were not edible as the fishy taste was overwhelming & off putting! Waitress/owner told me at check out "it's suppose to be fishy it's crab" WTF REALLY!! We fish as a hobby and as real seafood lovers that is the far from true,actually comical.No apologies nor responsibility taken,didn't want anything in return as a business owner she should know. Best Mexican food I have ever had. I am very particular on Mexican food having grown up in San Francisco with some real winners. This little gem...you wouldn't expect it in Barstow across the steet from a gas station, but wow, everything was so fresh. The salsa and chips were delicious and the service was attentive to drink refills. I ordered the all you can eat for $9.95 and got enchiladas and a burrito. Amazing!! Homecookin, not heavy at all...just great portions. This will be a stop on every trip Vegas to Socal. Affordable and good eatin, can't beat that. read more

I was so appalled at presentation, taste, and the fact that the waitress obviously knew I was unsatisfied and so she ignored my table until we had to chase her down for the bill. we came here on our way to vegas, and what we got was some good ol' yummy home-style mexican food. the menu had pretty much everything but the kitchen sink and everything was pretty cheap. lunch specials were under $5, well, at least my cheese enchiladas were. it was the perfect portion for lunch: one cheesy yummy enchilada with a side of beans and rice. the salsa and chips they give you at the beginning is mad crazy good, and might own chevy's. i really do like chevy's salsa and chips. but there's something about casa j's that might have chevy's beat. good service. one of the bathroom doors in the ladies room doesn't lock (ha!). and they have a lot of taxidermied animals for decor......not really feeling that, but the food makes up for it. read more

Good Service, quick, right off the 15. Odd decor (lots of taxidermy), nice full menu. Ate fish tacos, loved the spanish rice and beans, minus the "usual overload" mexican blend cheese ontop. Stopped here on my way back from Vegas and I wanted to see if it was the same chain as the one in Pico Rivera and Lynwood and it was. We had the cocido and hard shell tacos. My 10yo grandson wanted grilled shrimp (not on menu) for lunch. It was outstanding served on bed of lettuce with lime wedges! My husband and I had standard Mexican fare of carne asada taco and chicken tostada. For lunch at extremely reasonable prices it was fine. Judging by the shrimp dish, I expect that dinners are better. My husband and I stop here every chance we get driving from the SF Bayarea to Las Vegas. The chips and salsa are so fresh and the menu has a wide variety of food, anything you can imagine. This time we stopped on a Sunday and there was a woman making fresh tortillas in the middle of the restaurant. Well, we just had to order some with our order and they were the best we've every eaten! I order a chicken taco and my husband order the chile relleno. Both were so fresh and the beans and rice are amazing and so delicious! Stopped here on our way to Laughlin. Took 30 minutes to take our order. Salsa was not good. The red salsa tasted like V8 & the green salsa was nasty. I ordered a salad it was nasty, the whole bottom of my place had water. I also ordered the steak fajitas the veggies were good but the steak was full of fat. It was like Fat fajitas No steak. Food a little above average so that was good! The decor might be off-putting for some but if you are looking for decent Mexican you will look past it. I love this place. Around December when there's a decent snow storm up north, on my way to go skiing, I would stop by this place and get a great meal. They have been consistent throughout the years. The green salsa they serve with their chips is crazy good and really spicy, like the way I like it. I also like the fact they give out calendars with hot chicks on it every year. read more

Stopped here last weekend with my two small children. We chose this place based on previous reviews. Overall, it was just ok. They do have a great range of menu choices. My kids had the taquitos (rolled tacos). They were very bland, as was the guacamole. I ordered the chicken, shrimp, beef fajitas. This was pretty good. The best part was probably the fresh made corn tortillas being made at a station right in the restaurant. Pricing seems fair. Some of their specialty items (I.e. Bison, Antelope) do cost considerably more. The service was decent. I had to get attention of another waitress at one point cuz ours wasn't around for a while. The environment is a bit odd or unlike u would expect at a Mexican restaurant as there are trophy animals posted throughout the place. I would visit again to give another try but not overly excited about this place or anything. read more
