On our way to Zion National Park, we stopped in Barstow for lunch and I tried birria tacos for the very first time. OH. EM. GEEE. They were seriously the best tacos I've ever had! I was driving back from Laughlin with my family and we were really hungry. I was really looking forward to having breakfast and was disappointed that they didn't have a breakfast menu. So instead I had the carnitas enchilada, wife had the carne asada wet burrito, oldest had a pastor torta, kids had a bean burrito. I gotta admit that the food was great! We were all happy and sampling what each of us had. The only disappointment was the super cheap plastic fork and knife that I had to eat with. I don't mind the plastic utensils but definitely get a better quality. Overall, I would definitely be back when I'm in town. Found a great new pit stop on the way to and from Vegas. Mom had the chile relleno plate, wife has sopes al pastor, and I had two carnitas and one carne asada taco. WOW! Everything was as good or better than anything we've had, and we have some really good Mexican food back home. Even the horchata was excellent. Coffee was instant, and they give you a large mug of hot water and a jar of Nescafe Clasico, in the glass jar from Mexico, which is the best. Great idea cuz you can make it to your taste. I asked the guy at the counter, "why is it called Chelas y carnitas but you don't serve beer?" He said that Chela is his mother in law. We ordered the Carne/pollo (burritos), pastor/pollo/carnitas/carne (tacos), and Chicharrones. The burritos were decent, not very memorable. The plate came with one relleno (all you need) with rice and beans. The relleno was dark green, firm and spicy with a wonderful cheese. The sauce was excellent. Hubs had a carnitas taco and a chicken taco which were excellent and we shared a simple cheese quesadilla. Best I've ever had. This isn't Taco Bell.
