Extremely affordable, and outstanding quality food. The service was also perfect (though I was a little before standard lunch rush time). The chicken chimichanga was 100% chicken with no fillers, and as far as I could tell, was mostly if not entirely white meat. Tender, juicy. So, why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5? It's sheer San Francisco liberalism, that's why. The taxidermy (everywhere) creeped me out, some of it truly heart-wrenching. My politics aside, the place deserves good ratings. read more

Stopped here on our way home (LA) from Utah. It is a treat for the senses. Taxidermy heaven....if that is what you consider heaven. Good service...lots of TV's for catching the soccer match and decent food. Prices are VERY reasonable and the menu is like the Cheesecake Factory...they have EVERYTHING and it's all pretty decent despite being to expansive. If you're in the neighborhood and its feeding time (and you don't mind being surrounded by dead stuffed animals) this is a decent option. read more

I commute from Las Vegas to Orange County 2-3 times per month and I stop here almost every time. It is conveniently right off of the 15 and the the food is great. Best steak fajitas ever. Their beef has amazing flavor and the chili verde is chunky tender and with the right amount of heat. Some times the service is a little slow but remember 2 things 1. I have only seen 2-3 different people working at anytime it seems family owned and the lady who serves cleans up and takes your order probably is also in the back cooking. She is amazing!!!! 2. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! DO NOT EAT HERE First, a little backstory: Some family had moved away and we used to love coming here. We always remembered how good the food was. That part of the family finally was able to move back to this area and really looked forward to eating here, they waited three years to eat here again! I'm sorry to say we will never come back to this restaurant after the following experience. 1st: We arrived and waited to be seated, we waited a good 10 minutes before anyone even noticed we were there, we had to flag someone down to seat us. 2nd: The waitress showed us a booth, but asked if we'd prefer a bigger seat. We said yeah and moved toward the corner seat. She said she had to wipe the table down first and she ran back to the kitchen. We waited another 10 minutes for her to come back (awkwardly standing in the middle of the restaurant). She comes back and serves food to other guests!! SHE FORGOT WE WERE WAITING FOR HER TO CLEAN THE TABLE 3rd: We FINALLY get to sit down and get some menus. We order and receive our food after waiting quite a while (keep in mind the restaurant was not packed by any means). We finally get to eating and my family member finds PART OF A PLASTIC BAG IN HER SOUP. WTF 4th: We had to flag down the waitress (cause god knows she wasn't checking up on us) and told her about the soup. She apologized and said we won't have to pay for the soup (shoot we shouldn't have to pay for the whole damn meal in my opinion). We requested another soup but this time "to-go" since we're already finishing up eating. She says she'll be back with boxes. 5th: She assists other tables and finally brings us our boxes with the check. She hands my family member a container for the contaminated soup and says sorry. SHE EXPECTED US TO TAKE HOME THE PLASTIC BAG SOUP!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I told her this was not what we wanted, we wanted a NEW soup in a to-go container so we can get the hell out of there. She finally brought out the new soup with our check AND THEY CHARGED US FOR THE SOUP. Are you effing kidding me?! At this point we were so frustrated we just wanted to leave asap. Not much to be impressed about here during one visit in passing Barstow. The decor is slightly errie, with all the gazelles and bears and animals around. And this is a Mexican restaurant. Alrighty. The burrito I got was just average. Wasn't as hot as I'd have like (temperature wise, spice wise too). Didn't come with anything on the side. No beans? No rice? The chips and salsa were the best thing to come with it. Felt like a Denny's with hunted animals everywhere. Didn't find a lot to excite me about going back. Just very average. read more

We stopped in for breakfast to go. The place is so eclectic it amazed me. If you don't like dead animals, don't stop here. However if you like really outstanding Mexican food, this is your place. We ordered the machaca burrito. It was really really good. Their homemade salsa's are good. The hit one is outstanding. The flavor is really good. The heat is a slow burn, a flavorful slow burn. Extremely rude and mean waitress. A few people at our table had the "all you can eat" option and others had the regular menu options and when the regular menu people asked for a to go box the old Latina lady yelled at us stating the all you can eat people cannot take food to go. Even tho it wasn't the all you can eat people asking for boxes. The evil lady waitress even refused to refill waters for us saying we would be charged soda prices if we wanted a refill. When we asked for pogo de Gallo she said she would bring it but we would be charged for a salad dressing if we did. We asked for lemons for our water and was charged $2 as well. Let me get this straight: you have no issue with dead animals on your plate, but you have an issue with the skin of the animal? The food is very good. the service is friendly. On the way to Vegas and was getting hungry. Barstow is about half way from Southern CA. So my friend and I decide to get something to eat. Wasn't really in the mood for fast food, so just pulled off on a random exit, figuring we would find something. Saw Casa Jimenez. Told my friend, "looks like a good road food spot, let's give it a try." If you like home cooked mexican food, then this is the place. Great spicy homemade salsa, cold beers and a huge portion of chicken mole, served with light, fluffy rice and beans. My friend had carne asada which was also huge. Prices are reasonable and service was pretty good. The place was pretty clean, but was decorated with a menagerie of stuffed animals. It looks like it use to be a hunter's steak and potato type of restaurant. Not really into stuffed game animals, but I have to say the taxidermy was top notch. Found Casa Jimenez as we were heading home from trips between northern CA and the desert. Stopped off on a whim. The breakfast is unbelievably reasonably priced and lots of delicious food. This is now how we start our trips, breakfast at Casa Jimenez. Last night, as we were returning after a long trip, we pulled up just as the restaurant was closing. The staff was incredibly accomodating and offered us the option of getting our food to go. They packed our to go bag full of delicious, well-prepared food, again at an extremely reasonable price. I think the all you can eat price for their basic combination items is a pretty good deal. I was a little turned off by their decor, but if that is what makes The "Casa Jimenez" a home, then who am I to question it? Overall, it was a fairly good meal at a good price. I won't rush back, but I don't regret eating there. I do think that some would rather enjoy their style of Mexican food. I think others should at least give it a chance. read more

My friends and I decided to stop by here because we were hungry on the drive back to Cali from Vegas. We were amazed about how many stuffed wild animals they had in this place. There were signs that said "do not touch" but I didn't notice that after we sat down. Almost everyone who came in touched them! I'd give this place a 3 but my friends enjoyed their food so I gave it a 4 star. I got a wet burritos with the rice and beans. It wouldve tasted better if there were veggies in it and if it wasn't that dry. It tasted kind of plain. It was definitely a huge burrito though. My friend got enchiladas and she loved it. My other friend got tacos (fish, shrimp, and I think beef and chicken). She didn't like the fish so much but really wanted the shrimp. Our meals were pretty cheap compared to other Mex restaurants. My boyfriend had been trying to get me to eat here for over a year. It wasn't until 3 weeks ago I gave in. DELICIOUS!!! I kicked myself in the arse for not eating here sooner. The portions are huge and the prices are VERY inexpensive. We've been here about 7 times in the past 3 weeks so its become one of my fav places to eat here in town. Every time I have ordered, the food has been consistant. The early breakfast is super cheap - $1.99!!! It is NOT a small plate either. Also, try the horchata. Its creamy, sweet, and delicious! I've eaten here a total of 2 times. To start the service is decent at best, think average hole in the wall busy server type. They just seemed to be doing too much at once. The chips and salsa were perfect! I also loved the rice and beans. First time at this restaurant I got a combination plate with an enchilada and taco- which was fantastic! Hot, crispy and chewy in all the right places. Then the second time I went on a Friday and choose the 3 item at a time, all you can eat special. I got abondigas soup- which was alright. Lacked flavor. I then got a carnitas burrito- which was not very good. Dry, chewy carnitas with no flavor other than semi burnt. I got a couple other items that weren't memorable... All in all it isn't a bad place if you pick the right items, and I'm willing to go back for sure! As is typical with low key Barstow Mexican food, the menu is pretty standard: enchiladas, burritos, tamales, etc. in all your favorite meats: beef, chicken, pork, carnitas, etc. The real kicker though at Casa Jimenez though is the spectacular execution. The verde sauce is so rich with flavor that I'm sad to ever have it elsewhere again. The hot salsa is made with fire roasted jalapeños and almost brought a tear to my eye it was so delicious. And did I mention the staff is super friendly, service is fast, and prices are cheap!? I had a giant pork burrito smothered in verde sauce with rice and beans for $4.99. They also have a $9.99 made-to-order all you can eat option featuring all of their normal menu items! Definitely a Barstow gem. read more

Skip the Carna Asada - at least a quarter of it was grissle / cartridge. With that said everything else was delish. Horchata was fantastic- according to Phil "best Iv ever had." The relleno was nicely deep fried with a fantastic sauce. The beans and rice where great and the chips and both salsas were beyond reproach. Of course the view is pretty spectacular as well, the most wide collection of taxidermy I've ever seen. read more

On our way back from Las Vegas towards San Diego, we stumbled upon this because we needed gas and we were hungry. Place is right off the I-15 freeway. The owners serve themselves in a restaurant and have pictures of her young son hunting on the walls. The place is filled with taxidermy and very interesting. They offer variation of food, which is reasonably priced. They offer a $10.95 all you can eat deal as well, but we opted for something else. Service was fast and pleasant. read more

A local put me on to this Mexican restaurant about five years ago and since then, I stop every time I'm passing through Barstow and have lunch or dinner. The tortillas are made fresh daily and the food is prepared quickly and efficiently. It's more like the Mexican style cooking you find in the US than genuinely traditional Mexican, but even with that, it's still one of my favorite places. When you compare Casa Jimenez (mixture of locals and people passing through on the 15 between LA and Las Vegas) to the other restaurants in Barstow, it has to be at the very top. read more

This location is not far from the house so we come here often. There are several different choices to choose from so each time I have been here I have tried something new. I really enjoyed the shrimp ceviche here. The food is good and inexpensive the staff is always friendly and attentive. The decor is interesting if your into the taxidermy thing.
