Tried the shredded beef taco, the taco shell is a little dark than I'm used to to I was afraid it was going to taste burnt, but it didn't. The shredded beef meat itself is clean and has a sweet taste. As you see from the picture the feelings were fresh and delicious. I also ordered the bean and cheese burrito, it is made with a homemade flour tortilla....that right there is excellence! My husband tried the medium menudo the honeycomb meat was very clean and no fat at the top of the soup and no smell to it either! I've been going to all of the Plata's restaurants for over 45 years, for me it's the best Mexican food in the Barstow area, their chili verde at medium heat combination burritos are amazing !! & their carne asada taco combination plate is really great !!! Getting there: Take the N 1st Ave exit, onto Irwin Rd. I don't remember all too well, but I believe the parking lot is small. Experience: A friend of mine who lived in Barstow insisted that we stopped here on a road trip and I am so glad we did. This is definitely a gem of this city. We ordered the Chile Verde plate definitely not Chile Verde, it was more more like Salsa Verde with pork. At first we thought it was Pork with Salsa Roja but the flavor said otherwise. To make it worse, the Salsa Verde had way too much Oregano and the beans and rice were almost flavorless. Other people said it was great but when you know real Mexican food it's easy to spot someone who tried to imitate the flavors but lacked them big time. Also, we ordered a regular Churro and even that tasted like dough with sugar, it's sad to say but I just recently went to Disneyland and they had one of the best Churros I had in a while(very authentic). I grew up on platas and my worst experience in Barstow I ordered a carne asada burrito with cheese no lettuce and guacamole and french fries and they forgot my fries had to go back started open the burrito all tortilla hardly anything in the burrito 3/4 of the burrito was cheese and guacamole like I was eating a small Taco barely any meat in the meat was cold not the normal workers there never had an experience like this here there's no excuse for that I could go to amigos and get better and I also ordered carne asada fries for my daughter her carne asada meat was cold too if you ask me that's just some people that working there that don't care and that's what kills businesses inconsistency like that cuz I'm not going to go there spend my hard-earned money how expensive it is now when I could go somewhere else and get more consistency read more

Drove 30 mins to get to the restaurant that clearly states on their website that on Sundays they close at 9pm. So asked at 7:45 if we could get a table and they said no as the restaurant closes at 8. So then we asked if we could get a drink at the bar whilst we looked for somewhere else to eat. We were then told we could but would have to be out in 10 minutes. Haven't eaten here since 2017. Usually go to the one on Main Street but decided to return here. Order included 1 tamale, huevos rancheros and a pork burrito. None of the food was good enough to write home about. Tamale was dry, burrito was just so so and the huevos were mediocre at best. Whenever driving through Barstow, I love to stop at Plata's for a pork, potato, and cheese burrito. I go to this location when I want to sit and eat because the more convenient location on Armory is only take out. I have never been disappointed in my food. The tortillas are fresh, the pork tender and favorful, the potatoes and cheese perfect. I usually get it medium, because their hot can be really spicy. I do stay away from the soda fountain at this location though...and not just because it's Pepsi. Last time I was there it tasted dirty. So I just bring a drink with me since I'm paranoid and they don't seem to mind. read more

If you don't know about this place you should, It's in Barstow, yes Barstow. I first learned about this place from a friend how knew someone who lived in Barstow. This place is a gem for Mexican food if your ever in Barstow. They have multiple locations but I enjoy the one on imperial because it has ample seating while the other one on Amory has limited and or no seating. I always get the burritos, pork, potatoes, and cheese, hot, soooo good. I Dream of this burrito. Sometimes I want to go there even if I'm not heading to California but I've actually never done that.
