Casa Lodi is a reasonably priced restaurant/deli located just a short walk from Milan's Duomo. Rick Steve's (European travel guru) had highly recommended this place. They offer patio seating as well as several tables in the inside. My group settled on several dishes. Veal with tuna cream (€15 - $17 USD) - Perfect for a hot day, tender slices of veal were served with a tuna cream and provided for a truly memorable experience. Saffron Risotto (€18 - $20 USD) - This is probably their most popular dish and with the saffron flavoring it really elevated the flavor profile. Fusili Pasta - (€12 - $13.50 USD) - This pasta was prepared al dente and tasted great with the pesto and pine nuts. Overall everything tasted great. The dishes were unique and refreshing! read more

Friday the 13th was great at Casa Lodi. On Friday, Oct. 13, my wife and I had lunch at Casa Lodi in central Milan. As in other Italian locations, we used Rick Steves' Best of Italy guidebook to locate an eatery that was a little off the beaten track, in Milan, not right on the Piazza del Duomo. It was not quite the cultural experience we had at La Taverna di Cecco in Siena, but we still had a lovely leisurely experience, as well as a very nice and modestly priced lunch at Casa Lodi. We shared a delicious cheeseboard and a risotto, more food than we imagined. Note that rice dishes and risottos, not pasta, are king in northern Italy. One new condiment (for us) on the cheeseboard was a bowl of Marmellata di Mele e Pere con Semi di Senape (apple and pear jam with mustard seeds); very tasty! My wife had the house white wine (very good) while I had my first beer in Italy, a Peroni red beer (also very good). The wait staff led by Maurizio was outstanding. And when someone goofed up and served us the wrong risotto, saffron/lemon instead of carbonara (famous W. pasta), they apologized profusely and served us the carbonara risotto as well as the saffron/lemon risotto (truthfully, the latter was superior to the carbonara version). And Maurizio and other wait staff were only too happy to autograph the page where Casa Lodi is mentioned in Steves' guidebook. We highly recommend Casa Lodi. read more

Recommended by the Rick Steve book and it was actually pretty good. We had better Italian food elsewhere, but if you are looking for a solid meal near the duomo and do not want to fall for the overpriced tourist trap food, this is a solid choice. The food was very good and surprised us. At the end of our trip to the Dolomites and Lake Como Italy we had only one day and night in Milan and we chose to eat here as it was nearby our hotel and not far from the Duomo. I can tell you the food was amazing. The Carbonara risotto my friend had was as she said "possibly the best risotto" ever. The tomato based risotto was a nice change and the spaghetti with stracciatella cheese was good as well. Our starter was a cheeseboard which had 2 nice condiments we loved. The mustard was like a jam and good. There was also pickled vegetables in brine which were fantastic. Just be prepared for some odd service. Our server explained there is only one cook and adjustments cannot be made to things. They need some training to handle the different tables. But I would eat there again, now prepared for the strange service. read more

A bit tricky to find, but 100% worth it! In fairness it was our first night in Milan, on our first visit to Italy. We have already been here a week so we are happy, fat, and spoiled by the food. Casa Lodi has a simple menu with a friendly staff and rustic-warm atmosphere that speaks to the farm to table principles they espouse. My husband and I both had risotto. He got the Milanese and I had the one with tomatoes, cheese (burrat?) and anchovy cream. There's no good reason anchovy cream should be game changing in a dish but I tell you this risotto was amazing, I shared some with my daughter and together we ate the whole thing. I tried the Milanese and it too was incredible. I'm not used to risotto being light, this was with complex flavors. My daughter had the tortellini with rosemary. The smell and taste of this dish was beautiful. My son ordered a chicken with yogurt sauce that he ate so quickly I cannot describe what it even looked like. His came with carrots that I inhaled because he won't touch a vegetable, and I love them! Nice bottle of local wine, cheesecake and chocolate torte for dessert. The power went out ( it was way over 90 degrees) and we kept right on eating and enjoying. read more

The sign outside Casa Lodi proudly claims that the restaurant is no 'tourist trap.' From our experience, I'd have to say it's more of a tourist repeller! Service was slow and unfriendly. We were served by multiple waiters during our short stay and had quite a wait each time we were looking for service. When I initially asked a waiter if we could order since we had waited some time, he raised his hand and told us to continue waiting. When we were finally served, I ordered an orzo coffee from the menu and the waiter told me that's not something they serve there. My cappuccino was a weak one, something I was glad of since I'd really wanted a barley coffee. Although, if you're looking for something strong, you'd be disappointed. We stopped for one coffee to kill time before our dinner reservation nearby, and were relieved to be heading on, especially since there was no warm 'thank you' or 'goodbye' as we left. read more

After waiting an HOUR for our food, we asked what was going on. We literally watched the employee eat their dinners. They didn't put in our order, and didn't bother to try to make it better. I have never EVER been more furious at a restaurant. The 27€ bill for two bottles of water and two cokes, unbelievable. If I could post zero stars I would. read more
