Sr. Humberto: We were APPALLED by the treatment we received today at this supermarket. A cashier by the name of "Lesly" called one of us "vieja ridícula" upon check out. We asked for you/management, but the staff ("Lesly" and her two colleagues) refused to answer or help us. Instead, they either looked away or blatantly refused to call you/the manager. Even when we called later on the phone, they hung up on us after hearing "is the manager there?" To management: Please train your staff to be respectful to customers. It is unacceptable to insult customers and use profanities or agist language. We will never step here again. ZERO STARTS. read more

So I came here for a while now. Recently, the cashier ladies, there is one specifically who is always rude and has attitude. She probably has a morning shift because every morning she is there not doing her job and then doesn't attend the customers well! I stopped in looking for Epazote and sure enough they had plenty. This is a great Mexican market and butcher. Plenty of fresh fruit and all you favorite essentials needed to make a Mexican/Salvadorean/ Costa Rican inspired meal. You will find all the spices you need. read more

Like the hundreds of other small, family fun grocery stores in this great city, this little market offers a chance to browse ethnic food offerings you might not find elsewhere. I especially enjoy their pan dulce (you might get lucky and catch their afternoon delivery of still-warm pastries!). I came in yesterday and bought some Masa and it was expired and tasted really bad and I wasn't able to use it anyway I came in today and wanted a refund but I guess they don't do that there. they just give you store credit which I think is very odd since they sell expired food. Stopped by here last week for some marinated carne asada which was super tasty and had a nice spice to it. I go here a lot and so does my family. I bought bacon on Saturday and noticed it smelled bad when I opened the bag. When I go back to return it, they wouldn't allow me because I didn't have my receipt anymore. I didn't think to save my receipt since I go here a lot and didn't have a problem with the meat. I wouldn't recommend going here for meat. They lost long time customers over $5.24. I wouldn't even give them one star but had to. read more

This place sells spoiled milk. On 4 separate occasions I've purchased 2% one gallon milk from this location and it has become spiked before the expiration date. I advise people to shop elsewhere for their milk like Walgreens or Safeway and not support this store because apparently their refrigeration is stuck in the prehistoric age. While not as large as their 24th Street location, Casa Lucas on Mission is like a smaller supermarket or larger specialty food market. It has a small meat counter, frozen foods (frozen cheese bread and arepas looked interesting), dairy, produce, dried beans, pan dulce, spices, canned goods, sauces, fresh tortillas, paletas, etc. They also had some cookware like tortilla presses and chocolate mixing sticks. The fruit and veggies looked fresh but they didn't have many varieties of fruit. For produce, you can find Mexican/Latino items like cactus, tomatillos, etc. The meat counter had mostly beef but also mole and chicarrons. If you want something from the meat counter, order it there but pay upfront where they'll have your meat waiting for you. They had some items from La Palma but not many (just saw some thick corn tortillas). read more

I had zero fresh things to eat at home, decided to try Casa Lucas since I pass it every morning while they are unloading the trucks, and by recommendation of my roommate =) Did I seriously just get 3 apples, 4 roma tomatoes, 3 potatoes, 2 green bell peppers, a pomegranate, a cucumber, and a dozen eggs for $12.71?!? Granted, it's no Berkeley Bowl, but for a neighborhood market, it can't be beat! The generic stuff like yogurt is pricier than it would be a target/costco or something, but everything else is cheap. Now I need to go look up recipes so I can go back soon and not be intimidated by their amazing selection of Latin American goods!! Knocked off one star cause I think I saw them cleaning the side of produce containers with windex one morning and that just seemed a little bizarre ... but it was on the side of the oranges which I guess you peel...and you should wash off your produce anyways =) read more

Thank god for this neighborhood gem! It's conventional to go to the Safeway a couple of blocks away, but what really should excite you is this small grocery store on the other side of the road. This is the real reason why the chicken crossed the road. To go to Casa Lucaz 3! While I will still go to Safeway for items such as bread (more selection), alcohol, grains (barley, farro, rice), and spreads (peanut butter, nutella), I will go to Casa Lucaz for fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and Mexican snacks! The fruits and vegetables here are FRESH and CHEAP!!! In their veggie aisle, they had fresh, bright green beans for you to choose from (you can choose however many you want), I personally loved their selection of Brussels sprouts (I'm a sucker, they're basically mini cabbages). I also bought some onions and tomatoes. Their onions were super affordable! I prefer the tomatoes on the vines, as they taste better, and luckily this place has a large selection of different types of tomatoes. Their stock of avocados rival those at Safeway--buy them here, they taste better. Their milk selection was very good and they are open pretty late, which made late night cooking possible. read more

Yes! Great neighborhood store. Much better prices than Safeway on produce and meats. Everything is clean and well put together. There are various levels of English spoken by the cashiers and butcher, but the folks here have always been pretty helpful. But a Gringo like me has to complain-there are thirty kinds of tortillas here, and only a single kind of bread (BIMBO!). Work on that, and I'll be a customer for life! read more

Bread, produce, and fresh fresh fresh! OK, also very affordable. Coming here every week to purchase groceries is amazingly feasible. I walk out each time with two bags full of foodstuffs for under $10. Must buys: + Red and green leaf lettuce ($0.89/bunch) + Fresh corn + Dried pasta is so cheap here! + Bulk grains and legumes are very good for soups (i.e. barley, split peas, polenta-like grains, rolled oats, shredded coconut, rock sugar / sugar cane) + Jumex & Kerns (who knew there were so many flavors?? guava is the best) + Chili peppers --so many varieties + Apple bananas read more

I hardly feel inspired to write reviews, I have to feel very strongly about something and believe me it is worth sharing with everyone... This grocery store is a lifesaver, carrying a variety of everything...from traditional American ingredients to the most hard to find stuff imported from Latin America. I love love their fruit selection, always so sweet and yummy! My favorite thing to buy here is the Cheese! It's so fresh and if you ask you can get a taste before you purchase. Just talk to one of the very friendly cashiers. Beware, this neighborhood is filled with other grocery stores but be advised, Casa Lucas is the only place that will sell you the freshest produce, meats, sweets..etc at a very good price. Lastly, when I went to buy some stuff to make tamales, I went a little overboard and bought more than I could carry. Kindly, one of the workers called a cab for me and helped me load. My family always buys groceries down the street at Safeway, then drive down here for produce. There is always plenty of fresh and cheap produce. I've ate the breads and cookies from the bakery and they are also cheap and delicious! Since my family is Venezuelan/Colombian, we love empanadas and arepas. We buy our "harina pan" here! You can't find that good stuff at a crummy old safeway. read more

Good, cheap, fresh produce. Small meat market is also available. It gets really crowded! If you go there early in the AM, you can get HOT and FRESH corn tortillas. Still warm in the bag!! I go here when I want to make enchiladas. Good selection of Latin products, naturally, but some of those things look like that stuff that was recalled! No parking, but double park with a friend ... eveybody else does. read more

This store is ALWAYS packed! As everyone has posted, their fruits/vegetables are the freshest/cheapest around - they even beat the Farmer's Market at 100 Alemany on Saturdays for freshest/cheapest. They sell unusual fruits/veg like cactus, cassava root, etc. For freshest/cheapest fruits/vegetables, I usually go here or Pacific Supermarket or Manila Oriental [formerly Cala's] (although you have to watch out for rotten fruits/veg when they're packed in plastic at Manila Oriental). There ARE a few things to be aware of - like buying coconuts that are not in season and that are in the INSIDE of the store. I've bought coconuts here that are in the INSIDE near the back of the store near their other vegetables and they can be rotten. If the coconuts are OUTSIDE of the store and there are A LOT of them, then those are usually ok. The freshest in-season fruits/veg are usually OUTSIDE IN FRONT of their store OR inside near the FRONT of the store. Their mexican breads/bakery items are pretty good and pretty fresh, and I usually buy a variety of them. (There's also "Panaderia Andrea" a few doors down which serves fresh, tasty reasonably priced bread and bakery items.) Casa Lucaz's canned & packaged foods are overpriced and I'd go to Foods Co at 1800 Folsom for those. (The large store across the street called "One Dollar Only" also has the cheapest prices for various select canned/packaged items as well as stationary, some hardware, birthday/party event necessities, clothing accessories & household goods/supplies). It's best to go early 8am to 10am to Casa Lucaz to avoid the crowds. Parking is difficult, so I would definitely avoid it if it's busy I would NOT go out of my way to go here since there are so many other places to go for fresh fruits/veg esp all along Mission St and this Casa Lucaz is a VERY TINY store, but if you're in the area or nearby the Excelsior area, this is a good place to go for your freshest/cheapest produce. read more

The place is clean and organize. Price are so cheap but you get good quality items like fresh tomatoes, cabbage etc. I don't care if some of the ppl working there don't speak english properly. As long the vegetables and fruits are fresh. This store are well stock and organize. You don't have to ask anyone to get something unless you are acting prima donna or just like bitching around for having IQ. below or even way below 70. I m a frequent shopper here and i just love this market especially when i was born and raised in the community. Tonight i received service from a very obnoxious clerk. Very petite had a beanie and and Adidas outfit on. When asking a question about the large tortillas she ignored me and started to talk in spanish to the guy near the fruit. Not only was i totally ignored but she spoke spanish and was chuckling with the spanish guy.When i was ready to checkout i greeted her again with hello hows your night and then she gave me a smirk and made me look at register to see what i owe She was so rude ignored me and i couldnt believe im dealing with this lady like this as many times i been there. Its like why wouldnt you treat your customers especially your regulars with respect and a smile. Aren't we the reason you have jobs. I think after that encounter i just take my business to across street. smh read more

This place is awesome. The best mangoes I've ever had and they were insanely cheap and I didn't even realize until I got home- organic. She fancy huh. I bought a chicken for some stock and the butcher masterfully broke it down and wrapped it up in seconds. $1.50 for a box of strawberries. Oh and for you granolas and/or trendies- bulk chia seeds for $10 lb. Oh that reminds me, they just started selling their own packaged chia seed tortilla chips. I bought them because, as I said before, I'm fancy, so I bought them TO BE fancy but they turned out to taste f***in great. The chia seeds give them an extra nutty savory flavor. So whhat in tar-nation are u waiting for? Get over there! And have some pozole at the taqueria a couple doors to the right. read more

Okay, I need more stars!!! I love this place, and it's walking distance from home. I've always noticed it, but drove by thinking I already knew what was inside. They have everything I need to make dinner from my country of roots. Fresh veggies, fresh meats, prepared carne asada, roasted pepper salsa, locally made, tortillas, seasonings, and the list goes on. I nearly climaxed in there. Ha ha. This is they type of place that would make me buy foods just in case they were gone tomorrow, although that's unlikely. It's just exciting! read more

I love Chipotle. Sure, it's not real mexican food, but it's still delicious. My boyfriend and I try to be healthy and get the steak bowls without any beans or rice (sometimes I live life on the edge and get half a scoop of rice). I was inspired to save $7 bucks and make my own bowls. I search "mexican grocery" on Yelp and Casa Lucas came up. I live in the Sunset so I didn't want to venture all the way out to the Mission to pick up some pre-marinated meat. I ended up buying 2 and a half pounds of marinated beef and chicken and a ton of produce (jalapeños, onions, lime, corn, avocados, bell peppers, cilantro) and everything came out to be under $20. I ended up making 7-8 Chipotle bowls! While I was there, they had a pint of strawberries for only 79 cents! I'm definitely coming back here for more meat and produce. read more

If you are Latino and you have not been here then I question how Latino you are. i haven't come here in a while, but I know my mother comes here often. The place has seriously upgraded since I was younger. There is a nice selection of produce and shelf items. There is a carniceria for those meat eaters, and sweet bread (me like!). Also fresh cheeses and Mexican candy. My mom and dad used to come here so often they are recognized by most of the staff. Stuffs pretty cheap too so if you are on a budget make a little stop here. read more

This place has great prices on produce! I've only been here once, but they had good mangoes for .79, ten lemons or limes for a dollar, etc. Inside it is your typical medium sized Latino market. I don't recall if they had a meat/fish counter (pretty sure they didn't), so I would go if you are mainly looking to buy produce or ingredients for a South of the border meal. read more

I bought some tortillas from this place on Monday April 19, when I opens them to eat on Wednesday April 20th I saw mole on almost all of the tortillas. This place has always got fresh produce, and cheap. It's a bit small; but, they've got it all, prduce, a small meat market, and lots more. Get there early so you don't have to fight the crowds. And, definately wash the lettuce! read more

Totally solid market, good Adobado de Res (carne asada, as most of us white folk know it) and other meats. Good selection and prices, they even have those crazy rare South American sodas and more exotic stuff. Weirdly I couldn't find cheese here for some reason, maybe no room?
