I've been to Casa Lupe 2 plenty of times, but this was my first time at the original. The feel is just as friendly, he service is just as good, and the food is fantastic. The nachos continue to blow me away. This is the only place that does nachos right, with individual chips getting equal treatment rather than a month of chips with the bottom half either soggy or completely untouched by toppings. Large portions and fast service is what I would describe them in a nutshell. Firstly, chips were really good, but salsa was a bit too spicy for my taste. They had 2 different kinds, one had jalapenos in it and the other was still spicy. LOL. We ordered drinks and the waitress recommended the Guava margarita which sounded very interesting, which I have not had before - so I ordered that. Came out within minutes and almost as big as my face (my estimation would be about 18x18cm) and there was so much, I wasn't able to finish. It was quite strong too, my boyfriend comment that my nose was red, and I typically don't glow. I order the 2 crab enchiladas ~ my all time go to, when they asked me what sauce I wanted (red/green) I was not able to decided and waitress gave me the option to have both (as pictured, red and green sauce). Pretty scrumptious all around. Enchiladas were just right, chicken fajitas were sizzling and delicious, the rice was delicious, the beans, well, they were beans (I've never been a fan so don't go by me). I went last night with a group of 5 Ladies for dinner and Margheritas. I made a reservation at noon and asked for outside seating. They set up a table, specifically for us outside, before we arrived, just for us. From our arrival to departure, all of us were very impressed with the our waitress, our appetizers, drinks and our dinners. We were able to be given 5 separate checks, which made it so much easier when paying, thanks to our waitress, "Margherita". We ordered 4 different entrees on the menu and everyone of us was very impressed with our selection. I always have to try the Chili Reanos at any Mexican restaurant. They were not only DELICIOUS, but very authentic. The chips, the salsa, rice, beans, entrees and Margheritas, we all agreed, were some of the best we've ever had. I had not gotten a chance to eat, I was kinda cranky but with Julie K and some awesome mole by the end of the meal I was in a much much better place. This place has been open for what thirty years?? CRAZY!! I loved the salsa/pico de gallo that was served with the chips. Spicy with just the right amount of kick!!! SO MANY YUMMY OPTIONS! Honestly, it made my head spin... I am a sucker for dark mole and this place quenched the craving. I ended up getting the cheese enchiladas with mole. The beans and rice were perfect The prices I felt were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food I got, although I thought it was weird that with my mole dish the price was the same for cheese, chicken or beef. We came here based on a recommendation from a friend. Parking is tight here so be prepared to hunt for a spot. Walked in and took a minute to get seated. The place was busy but not completely booked. We chose our items and waited... and waited. It looked like only one waitress was working on this side of the house. Not sure if this was normal or someone called in sick but, it was slow. We finally placed our order and drinks, all of which came out in reasonable time. We ordered the chicken enchilada which was very dry and the sauce was the only thing that made it palatable. The chicken quesadilla was ok. There were a lot of shrimp in the camarones al mojo de ajo but it was very wet. The flavor was pretty good. Just the sauce was too watery. The best dish of the evening was the pork tamales. We all enjoyed this one. The pork was lean. The masa was tasty and it wasn't too greasy. I'd definitely recommend the tamales. read more

I have been coming to Casa Lupe for a long time. The service is always stellar, the drinks are great, the atmosphere is WOW! Reading the other poor reviews they mention food not great, chips are stale and other items. In general, many (including Elite Reviewers) give it 4 stars. Why? They say the food is just OK or poor. I agree with them with the following explanation: Consistently! When Casa Lupe is good, it's great..when OK, it's OK. It has to be the Chef(?) The servers, management (family owned/operated) are always polite, helpful and really make you feel welcomed! My favorite is Chili Reyano, which they normally prepare soggy and drenched in sauce. Not last night, it was outstanding-best I ever had! Chips we're fresh and warm, rice and beans and everything else was beyond great. It is almost like the chef was on their "A" game. Service and teamwork was outstanding and of course, by 5:15 PM, the restaurant was packed. I especially like how there is a bar section with tables and a restaurant section for families. It is always well maintained and very clean. Everything is home made and when they do it right-it is an awesome experience for everyone. I will continue to come here and if I note the consistency issue has been resolved, I will upgrade this review to 5 Stars. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and will watch the reviews. read more

One Friday night, we were wondering around downtown Campbell trying to find a place to eat, but cable in Campbell must have been out or something.... the whole town was hanging out in the downtown and we could not find a single open seat. So we started to walk away from downtown Campbell area, rejected by 45 minutes wait at sushi place on Winchester (which is Michi Sushi, thanks to Randy F!!), then we found Casa Lupe across the street. This place was also packed but we were seated right away. Service was slow after we were seated, and my fiance gave me a gentle hand grab with worried look saying "it's okay honey... they'll come soon". The best mole sauce I've ever had. We ordered a side of guacamole and it was like another dish - must be 3-4 avocados? It was huge! Too bad that my fiance doesn't like avocado, so I ate and ate, with the chicken, with the chips but I could not finish the mount of guacamole they've given us. This place has been around forever. Actually, when I met my husband 20 years ago I think he had a bar stool with his name on it! Ya ... he was a "regular". Ownership has changed but that's about it. The interior and menu have pretty much stayed the same. There are two dinning room options. You can eat in the large back room or dine in the bar area which is where we sat. Friday and Saturday nights are pretty packed and the night we came in (Friday) there was a line out the door by 7pm. Although the margaritas here are good, I ordered a glass of wine. The wine glasses crack me up because they're that old school diamond cute chunky glass that my mom had in the 80's. The hubby and our daughter opted for the margaritas. Hubs had the house and daughter had the peach one. The peach one was just okay. We've eaten here several times. I love that it's family owned, service is alway outstanding and the place is festive with singles and families alike. Unfortunately the food just falls short for me and I feel the prices are a little high for what you get. Don't get me wrong, you get plenty and leave full but the dishes are missing the mark. Chicken Suiza Enchilada- rice and beans are good enough, Suiza sauce is okay but the chicken inside the enchilada was so bland and a touch dry. The chicken tastes straight up boiled in plain water, no seasoning. The flavor of the filling is the most important part! Chicken Verde Enchilada - served with beans and rice and unfortunately the same bland chicken as the Suiza dish. My daughter wasn't impressed with the verde sauce either. Shredded Beef Verde Enchilada - the menu just said "beef" so I asked if it was ground or shredded. Our server (who I believe is also an owner) said I could get either. I opted for shredded since I've always thought ground beef should stay in taco bell tacos only. I was disappointed when I cut into my enchilada to find chopped steak inside instead of shredded meat. I didn't care for it to much. You can't beat the service, and drinks are strong. My husband said the nachos were the bomb back in the day so I think we will stick to happy hour fare and enjoy the good margaritas and friendly service. read more

Tonite was disappointing because of the amount of salt they use. If you have hypertension avoid this place. The amount of salt used makes the food close to inedible. From the rice to the ground beef they use for the enchiladas. I was hoping shredded beef but that might be too salty also. 3.5 solid stars. I think Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines. Ordered: Enchiladas Montadas: 3.5/5 (yay!! i love olives, and there was one olive in my dish--see pic!) Comp chips and salsa: 3/5 Flan: 3.5/5 I had high expectations for the chips and salsa, but was a little disappointed. I was hoping the chips would come out warm, but it was barely warm. The salsa was okay. They gave us two types--one was mild and the other more spicy. We used all the salsa with our entree, but the wait staff didn't refill it. The Enchiladas Montadas come with 2 enchiladas with the choices of pork, beef, or cheese, along with two sunny side eggs!! I selected the pork and beef and was a little disappointed with both choices. The chicken was alright--a little dry. On the other hand, the beef was GROUND beef and not carne asada. I think the enchiladas would've been better if it was shredded beef. Next time, I would probably try the cheese. The flan was pretty decent. Parking can be a little tough if you come during peak hours. The restaurant sits on a private lot with limited parking. You may have to park on the street and walk to the restaurant. read more

This place is really good and always busy. The prices are a bit high, our meals for two people are always about $80 with a drink thrown in there. The food is consistently good. If you want something amazing, try the Steak Picado, and then go home and dream about eating it again. Seriously, I crave it and if I think about it, I'm going to want it. The shredded chicken they use is really tasty and always pleases. There's some things that I'm not a fan of though: my Mexican friends dislike their chips which are store bought, not made on site. Also their guacamole is very bland. Just avocados mashed up. No red onion, no tomato, no lime juice and definitely no salt. So I wouldn't buy the guac again. It needs some oomph. The margaritas are strong. Hubby gets drunk off the first one, always. Lol. Servers are super friendly and the place is clean. read more

We ate here because it was close to an event we were going to. It was a very warm night, so I thought I'd get the Fiesta Tostada, since a salad would be healthy and light which, I was told was the same as the Roques Tostada, only coming in a shell, and was told the Roques Tostada came with more guacamole. I got the beef option. I also got a glass of Sangria. The Tostada had extremely minimal lettuce. The lettuce was shredded, as if on the smallest shred size, as when you buy or grate the tiniest-sized shredded cheese. I'd have a few tiny strands of lettuce in my first bites, and none for the last half. Almost the entire salad was a ground beef sauce, with a dollop of sour cream on one side, and a dollop of guacamole on the other. That was it. No salad. The plate had some refried beans on it with melted cheese on top, and a little rice, so that was mainly my meal--refried beans and rice. That was $18! My drink was around $9, and my friend's drink, a margarita, was around $13, so since we split our bill (our entrees were the same price), I payed over $31 for basically rice and beans & a so-so sangria. I would not eat here again. I certainly would never order the tostadas! The meal I had was possibly worth around $7.50, if you liked the pile of ground meat sauce. read more

This place sucks. I've been here recently twice and once you're seated and place your order you never see your server until you're well done with your meal. You got three different servers coming up to you confused as to who's taking the lead. The booth that you sit in have a weird height to them they're way too low which is just an uncomfortable and stupid experience. The chips are nasty as if they don't change their oil and the food isn't much better. There was some old lady that would come out and just stare at everybody from time to time. Which just exacerbated the stupidness of the experience. Would be great if your servers actually did their job and don't go see once you sit down. But anyway, I won't be back. read more

But unfortunately the albondigas soup is not what I was expecting and maybe that was my problem I was expecting something that I'm used to as a Mexican women I was expecting authentic Mexican food this to me was more of Chicano Mexican food . First of all the broth taste just like a tomato can and the broth was super thick the veggies where very soft as for the meatballs authentic Mexican albondigas has rice in them but these didn't just ground beef, although it was just the ground beef it was good but again not what I wanted and was expecting. I sat and order then my food was given to me less then 5 minute not bad but it was not what I was craving and wanting. The tortillas chips where also very dark and old. The salsa where good and the service was friendly and that's why I give it a 2 star. I can't speak for the other food items but I know that if I want real authentic Mexican food this restaurant is not for me read more

This place is amazing!!! First off, they have unlimited chips and salsa, can't really go wrong there. The two salsas they offer are spicy but so addicting!! My husband and I got the steak fajitas and they were so good. They brought them out on the skillet with corn AND flour tortillas for you to mix up the options. The skillet had grilled green peppers, red onions, and zucchini. I loved the zucchini. It came with sides of rice, guacamole, sour cream, and beans to enjoy as well. Everyone at our table got different meals but what i enjoyed about this place is that with each dish on the menu, you get a side of beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream. The portions are large and can almost be split depending on how much you eat. The service was good as well. We got sat right away for a party of 5 and we got our drinks as soon as we got sat. Everything came in a timely manner and the server kept bringing us more chips and salsa. SCORE!! My sister in law used their banquet room for her baby shower and the service was amazing then as well. Let me start off by saying that the employees were great....BUT...the food was atrocious. I ordered "sizzling" beef fajitas and my spouse ordered shrimp fajitas. THEY WERE THE WORSE FAJITAS we ever had in our lives. The fajitas had no "sizzle" and the vegetables looked like they had been marinating in oil all day. The shrimp was over cooked and rubbery and both plates tasted like salt because everything was over-salted. The flour tortillas hadn't even been warmed, they were cold and tasteless. The prices were ridiculously high for the poor quality of food we got. We took our leftovers home and threw them in the garbage upon thinking how bad the food was. read more

Holy hell, this place is so incredibly terrible in so many ways. Let me break it down: 1. Neither of the salsas were good. One of them tasted like canned tomato paste. The chipotle-esque one was passable but not particularly interesting. Neither of them were spicey. This is the Bay Area - I'm not sure how a Mexican place can survive here without a robust and flavorful salsa offering. 2. Tortillas were undercooked. I mean...how? You're a Mexican restaurant. This should be a baseline requirement. Tip: if the tortilla breaks when you try to make a taco, that tortilla is not ready to be sent out to the customer. An egregious Mexican cuisine faux pas. 3. I ordered the Mexicali Chicken. Chicken was dry and could be generously described as luke warm. It was clearly reheated. Further evidence of this was its uninviting brown color (it was chicken breast, not brown meat FYI). Incredibly unappetizing. 4. Speaking of inedible, the rice tasted like plastic. If the chicken was day-old, the rice must've been from the turn of the century. Seriously spat it out into my napkin. The horror. 5. The chips were stale.
