I love Mexican food, and though this spot had some solid dishes some of the basics were bland. The environment is dark and moody, but the service was not great (we had a blonde waitress who made us feel like we were bothering her the whole night) Guacamole - 3 stars. Bland and lacking flavor, we asked for salt and lime to bring some additional flavor to this flat appetizer. Ahi Tuna Tostadas - 3 1/2 stars. I get this dish every time I visit Mexico City, but the interpretation here was a bit bland and nothing special. Taquitos de Papa - 4 1/2 stars. My favorite dish of the night. This was cooked well and rich in flavor. Side of Refried Beans - 3 stars. Lacked flavor, added copious amounts of salt to this in an effort to give it more flavor. Moljacete de Carne - 4 stars. A huge dish full of meat and chicken, all cooked quite well. This was on the pricey side ($79) but great for a hungry group. Mole Enchiladas - 4 stars. This had a great flavor profile and was my 2nd favorite dish of the night. Sorry to bring it up again, but the service is why I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars. We'd ask for things like salt, water, and limes and were given attitude. We asked for knives for a party of 3, our waitress brought us one. I asked for additional take-out containers, that seemed to bother her quite a bit. Distrito Federal is a cute, small and well decorated Mexican restaurant in downtown Campbell. The place seems clean and the service is welcoming, efficient and friendly. The food unfortunately is a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some weird. We got the guacamole and chips. For $13 they give you a smallish bowl of guacamole and a tiny bowl of chips. The chips were fine but the guacamole was oily and bland. It needed more seasoning which is going to become a recurring comment. The carne asada fries were just ok. The fries are most likely frozen and prepackaged. They got reheated but were again bland. They got soggy because of the steak, cheese, pico de gallo and other ingredients on top. The carne asada was good and tender but not enough to save this dish. The fish tacos were disappointing. They were served with a generous chunk of fried fish but everything was dripping over the edge of the tortilla, the fish was really fishy and again it was just under seasoned. Rice and beans were served in tiny bowls and were both dry. The quesabirra tacos were actually good. Decently seasoned and greasy as expected. Mole enchiladas had good flavor and a decent amount of shredded chicken. This was possibly the best dish of the night. The El Jefe was decent but it's also an $18 hot dog with the same McDonalds style fries. Again the service was great and I'm willing to give them another chance someday. In fairness the score is somewhere between a 3 and 4 but I chose to round down due to the food. read more

We came to Distrito Federal last Saturday night just for drinks. The place was packed, but we were lucky to get a table pretty quickly. I'm giving it 3 stars, not because it was a bad experience, but because there were a few things that could've gone better. First, our server Sophie was lovely, very friendly and attentive. However, there were only two servers working the entire restaurant that night, so service was understandably delayed. Our drinks took quite a while to arrive, and that affected the overall experience. I ordered the watermelon margarita, but it was way too spicy for me. Thankfully, Sophie was super understanding and let me switch it for the blackberry margarita, which I really liked. My partner had the mezcal old-fashioned and he enjoyed it a lot. We didn't order food this time, so I can't speak to the dishes, but the menu looked great, lots of variety and very authentically Mexican. I'm definitely open to coming back to try the food. We did get the churros, but I wasn't a big fan. The caramel (or dulce de leche) that came with them was too light and runny, it didn't really have the rich, thick texture I was expecting. Overall, the vibe was fun and the staff did their best, but due to the delays and the fact that we only ended up having one drink before deciding to head out, I'm giving it 3 stars. I happened to be in the area looking for food and came across Distrio Federal. I stopped by on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't busy at all. I was able to get seated right away with the choice of outdoors, inside tables, or bar. I opt out for the bar just for fun. The interior is on the darker side but it's to add to the aesthetic of the restaurant. It has a great interior and it highlights their bar with the huge selection of alcohol they have. I ordered La Taqueria Street Tacos. This comes with 3 tacos, a side of beans (I don't like beans so I skipped it), and a side of rice. They have a variety of meat that you can choose from; Asada, Al Pastor, Shrimp, Veggie, and Pollo. The tacos had two tortillas and it was grilled for a bit. It had a slight crispy but was still soft and chewy. Asada taco 5/5: The meat was more diced up instead of sliced up. After my first bite, I immidietly tasted the char from the grill. It added so much flavor that I enjoyed. This was hands down my favorite taco and part of my meal! Al Pastor 3.5/5: I found that the pastor wasn't super flavorful and I didn't taste the same char flavors as the steak. It was still good, but the meat could be more flavorful so it isn't drowned out by the toppings. This one also came with a pineapple, either for flavor/decoration or to help with tenderizing the meat. Shrimp 3.5/5: While eating all of the tacos, I couldn't really taste the shrimp meat as well. There wasn't as much shrimp meat on the taco compared to the asada so maybe thats why I didn't taste much. For my drink, I got a Mai Tai 5/5. The bartender serving me was in training and he was doing an amazing job! My drink was great, tropical, and decently strong. I would definetly return for the asada tacos. For other things on the menu, I would return for a special occasion just because the pricing is more on a $$$ side than a $$ side. read more

When it came to ordering, we were told they were out of multiple things on the menu so I settled on tacos. I was told by the server it would take awhile for them to come out, although I appreciate the communication, i was confused given they are just tacos. Our waitress was great and came around often but not too often. We asked her some questions about some of the drinks and she gave us some good advice. My friend had the pineapple mai tai and had the red sangria. We both really liked our drinks. My sangria had a nice fruit flavor with a good red wine and vodka. Very berry forward. My friend enjoyed her mai tai. It looked like a fun drink in a pineapple-shaped glass. For entrees, we both had the wild mushroom tacos. We both really liked this dish. The tacos were very flavorful. This place is totally Mexico City-inspired, with a street food vibe that's so cool. The decor is super laid-back and colorful, with lots of bright murals and an urban, artsy feel. It's usually a really upbeat atmosphere. If you're looking for a taste of a lively Mexico City neighborhood, this is definitely the place to be. I think the beans were the highlight, which isn't saying much for a place that should be more authentic. The restaurant, while small is beautifully decorated and they were playing black and white cartoons on the tvs. Their cocktail menu is really pretty with chalkboard style pictures of the drinks. There's not too many vegetarian options but I got cheese quesadillas and loaded frites. The cheese dried up and got hard really fast and the food in general wasn't too flavorful in my opinion. The service is good but the food comes out super slow. The tables are also very small so the food barely fits. The water glasses are also way too small and it's inconvenient having to continuously bother the server to ask for more water. The food was so good I had the Taquitos de papa the potato had amazing flavor. I saw a lot of plates coming out and they all looked delicious I have to come back and try more food . Celebrated a birthday dinner here. It is both stylish and festive inside - and was also decorated so cutely for the holidays. The food was shockingly good. Large menu with lots of beautiful cocktails and protein choices for tacos. The ceviche ($16) was fresh and beautifully plated and the guacamole ($11) was top notch. The Mole Chicken Enchiladas ($22) were divine. The corn tortillas (which seemed handmade) were filled with yummy chicken and cheese and generously smothered with a sweet, flavorful sauce. Expect to wait a very long time for food and your food will just warm enough not to complain. Our party combined have been to this restaurant a few times combined thinking it was an off night but does not seem like the case. Ceviche is served with saltine crackers which overwhelms the flavor of an already boring, flavorless ceviche. Food lacks salt and acid leaving a lot to be desired. Consistency is a factor we really appreciate, and Distrito Federal does not disappoint! We have brought many people here, and all have loved it. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. They are not in a rush, and they want you to enjoy your meal without feeling like you need to leave. The parking is mostly street parking, but there are a few small public lots. The ambiance of the place was nice. It had mood lighting and house music playing. The restaurant is intimate and has a full bar. The kitchen is semi-open, and you can see them preparing your food on your way to the one restroom. The restroom has a disco ball inside of it. Interesting. The waitstaff is friendly, cheerful, and welcoming. Carina was our lovely server, who was also helpful and attentive. She suggested some popular menu items. Guacamole: avocado, onion, lime juice, jalapeño, salt, choice of chips or chicharrones. It came out with thick tortilla chips and a spicy salsa. Mexican Street Corn: grilled sweet corn off the cob, chipotle aioli, chili pepper seasoning, cotija cheese, and lime. This was spicy, tangy, and the sweet corn really soaked up the flavors. If you can't eat spicy, ask for the chipotle aioli on the side. It was too spicy for my wife. Quesabirria: Beef quesadillas, consomme, escabeche, tomatillo, habernero salsa. The special comes with rice or beans. We ordered the refried beans, but when it came out, it had the rice. When my wife asked, Carina realized that we did order the refried beans and, later on, brought out the refried beans in a small takeout container. read more

El Jefe, Beef Wagyu hot dog wrapped in bacon and grilled steak served with cheese sauce and pickled onions was great. The steak was very tender.
