Really loved the authentic Mexican food here. My husband and I split both the red and green enchilada. They were delicious. The chips with dips were super tasty too. One is very spicy though so be careful! ;) We also liked their churros, but wish we had known they have a raspberry filling inside because our kids wouldn't eat them. Their loss is our gain. ;)
As Good as Old Formerly known as "The Breakfast Place," they were featured on an episode of Restaurant Impossible (S20:E7 10/7/21) where Chef Robert Irvine busted their kishkas for thirty minutes before finally giving them a makeover. Alas and alack, even after that makeover the owners** decided to rebrand again and this time from an American breakfast place to a full-service Mexican restaurant complete with a full bar. The Good: *Easy parking in a large private lot *Friendly service *Reservations available via the Yelp app *Complimentary Chips and Salsa (there's a $5 version that comes with extra salsa fwiw) *Beers on draught, as well as a full bar *Multiple TVs with NFL games *Camarones a la Diabla (Deviled Shrimp) was tasty and cooked really well, and the Mexican rice was excellent and had a nice cooked tomato flavor. My only complaint was the shrimp weren't spicy enough--when I order deviled shrimp, I want it heavy on the devil. *Mole Verde was surprisingly good and the pork (altho we've seen them serve this with other proteins) was tender and had a nice chew. The Meh: *Corn tortillas aren't housemade The Ugly: *Prices are a little high compared to similar restaurants we've been to of this ilk. Conclusion: Tasty Mexican eats in a nicely remodeled space. **It's still the same owners from what I could tell from County records fwiw
Located in a large plaza with plenty of parking. We were a big group and called ahead for reservations. Our group ordered an assortment of appetizers (guacamole, queso fundido, chips and salsa). Generous amounts of guacamole but not enough chips - however our server refilled whenever we asked. The chips were very oily and a bit stale/hard, but the guac, salsa, and queso were yummy. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which comes with a separate bowl of rice and beans. It was delicious, but I couldn't justify the steeper price compared to other enchiladas I have had. Other people in my group got the burger, Jambalaya, fish tacos, and Al pastor tacos. I tried the jambalaya, and it was overall good but a bit dry and bland (even after getting it spicy). Again, pretty steep in price for the flavor of the dish. My friends didn't like the fish tacos very much, and felt that the tacos were very small. Service was very friendly and attentive, and seating was spacious with plenty of tables and booths. Overall decent food, but the price is comparatively steeper than other places in the area for the quality, flavor, and portion sizes of the food. Side note: they accidentally charged us additional entrees and appetizers than we ordered, which can be understandable for a large party like ours - when brought to attention they apologized and immediately corrected the bill - I would recommend checking your bill prior to paying though! Another note: they charge a 3% additional credit card surcharge which we weren't told about beforehand and wasn't stated on the menu.
First time here and we had a really good experience! Servers were friendly and the food came out pretty fast. We had the Tacos Dorados, Enchiladas (ordered with half green and half red sauce), and 3 Tacos (they let us order 3 different kinds, which was nice). One order of churros for dessert was enough for all of us. All the food was delicious! Their bar is big - we enjoyed beer and Anejo Margaritas (not stingy with their tequila at all). We booked a table on Yelp for Saturday dinner but probably could've just walked in (party of 3). They were almost full and busy. They had their doors open all evening so bring a jacket if it's cold out.
My friends and I were staying in San Jose for the weekend and I did some research on local restaurants. Luckily I came across Añejo Cantina. Located in a small shopping center, Añejo Cantina lived up to its high-star reviews. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in up until we left. I ordered the green enchiladas with a side order of beans and rice. It tasted delicious and homemade. My boyfriend ordered the pollo en mole and also enjoyed it. Our friends ordered the Mexican jambalaya and mentioned it's one of the best dishes they've had. I also ordered the house margarita. Overall, all of our food was great. We loved the food and service. I highly recommend you try this place!

(I believe there was a reservation made about a week prior.) I showed up about 10 mins early and our table wasn't ready yet. So I sat at the bar while I waited. It didn't take too long to put the table together. We ordered a few apps to start with. I only tried the guac which was fine. I actually like my guac spicy, so it was good mixed with the spicy salsa. Since we had kids with us, I asked if they salsa trio had a mild option for them. Our server was a sweetheart and brought us samples of all three. They did end up too spicy for the kids, but I used the habanero one for my tacos. For my main, I got the taco trio since I could pick a variety. They were out of the carnitas that day, but they gave us the option of fish instead. I ended up getting the shrimp, asada, and fish. The tacos are a good size, so for me they ended up being filling. But I wasn't super hungry when I got here, so you can use that as a gauge. Drinks wise, I got the margarita, no salt. It was nicely balanced. Tho if I wasn't driving, I probably would have asked for an extra shot. I like my cocktails spirit forward. Lol! Nice quaint little spot for a bday dinner. My friend and I went here for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't super busy at all. There was only one waitress working, but she was pleasant and quick to help us. I ordered the enchiladas with mole and my friend ordered a carne asada burrito. The enchiladas had chicken and cheese in them. The mole sauce was well seasoned and slightly spicy. It wasn't overly sweet either. The rice was flavorful but I thought the beans were a little bland. My friend enjoyed her burrito. We also ordered the churros and tres leches. The churros had bits of strawberry in them and were served with berries, whipped cream, and some sort of coffee/caramel sauce. The tres leches cake was also served with berries, whipped cream, and the caramel/coffee sauce. We enjoyed both desserts. The layout of the restaurant is a bit odd but the ambiance is festive and fun. I enjoyed my experience here and will likely come back to check out their happy hour menu and drinks.
First time here. Large restaurant, outdoor seating and clean! I ordered the Chips and Guacamole and the Mole Verde with corn tortilla. Guacamole - could use some heat. More lemon or lime. Mole Verde - Bomb! Really delicious and huge portion, I couldn't finish it. It comes with rice and black beans and either corn or flour tortillas. It's always corn! I would come again and try one of their specials. Staff were friendly. The restaurant was clean. I came at 630 on a Saturday and had no problem getting a table.
This casual local Mexican restaurant, located near the Santana Row area, serves a variety of dishes inspired by cuisines from different regions of Mexico. Their staff was friendly, and the dishes came out quite fast. Out of all the dishes we ordered, my top favorites were: Camaron al Pastor: The shrimp was very flavorful, and the tortilla's texture was spot on. Elote: The corn was well-grilled, and I loved the smoky flavor with chipotle mayo sauce and cojita cheese. Parrillada: It came with grilled NY steak, shrimp, chorizo sausage, and grilled cactus. So many different flavors and textures were dancing on the palate. Housemade churros: They were stuffed with vanilla and raspberry/strawberry, very yummy!
Came back in for attempt two and damn!!!! I loved the first experience but round two was even better. Walked in and was created with a huge smile by (can't remember his name now that I'm a week late on this. He has the huge Ric Ross beard)...might be Andres. Any how, he let us pick our seats and he had light banter with us. As he was bouncing around to other tables you could hear the joy and upsell in his voice. The guy had a gift of gab and was a salesmen with charm. The food was basic this time as all that was ordered was tacos. Basic order but powerful flavor! I actually liked the Salsa Habanero Carne Asada Tacos with extra Jalapeños better than my last dish. The tacos were cooked up perfectly with a few pieces that had that char to them to add to the entire flavor profile. Damn, those were really good!!! 3.5 stars The food is pretty good and so is the service. The prices are pretty high for what you get though. Still, I think this place is worth a try. The restaurant doesn't seem so clean. The bathroom was gross (always a bad look for a restaurant). Also, 3% charge if you're paying with card.
This is a small little restaurant. It was the middle of the afternoon and slow. I ordered and the food came out quickly. They do not have chips and salsa to munch on without purchasing the appetizer. The chips with the guacamole were fresh. The guacamole had a little too much lime. The tacos were stuffed full. I got two carne and one chicken. The chicken was good. The carne was great. The flavor was amazing and the meat was tender. The only had sweet tea which I did not get.
One of our favorite spots for Mexican cuisine! Great drinks, chips / salsa, and haven't found a bad thing on the menu yet! The Mexican jambalaya is so good... and if you have room for dessert, get the churros... I dream of them sometimes. Highly recommend as a reoccurring customer.

Its nice to try and find new places to eat, my friend did the research and decided that this would be the place to try for our next get together. We met on Saturday for lunch. Plenty of parking available since the restaurant is in a strip mall. It wasn't too busy when we got there, but then it started picking up. There was only one server working and she was really hustling to meet everyone's needs. Plus, she was friendly. I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Second time dining here, the experience this time was more positive. We walked in around 6PM on a Friday night and there was no line and only a couple of tables occupied. We ordered right away and were served in a timely manner. Chips and guacamole - 5/5 Chicken Mole plate - 3/5 Enchiladas- 3/5 Ordered lemonade for drink, which was never served until we asked for it again, towards the end of our meal. The service is not the best and you have to try hard to catch the servers attention. The food was better this time, but not as good as many other Mexican restaurants. It is not what I consider authentic Mexican food. read more

Went to Anejo for a girls night and this was a cute spot to enjoy our night. It was pretty empty when we went so we were seated quickly. The ambiance here is cute and cozy. For the food we ordered: * chicken enchiladas - I got this with the red and green sauce and actually really enjoyed the red sauce here! The meal was filling and plentiful *churros - got this for dessert and this was every bit of deliciousness. We this was warm and chewy and I loved the filling in the inside - everything was perfect Overall food was great and service also well done! read more
Anejo's is my new fave spot to get delicious mezcal and tequila drinks, without dealing with a line or pretentious folks. It's giving *summertime* vibes with their open-front entrance, no doors, just an opened garage door pretty much. THEY DO HAVE WEEKDAY HAPPY HOUR that runs until 6pm, score! We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted with such friendly eye contact and service. Thank you to our bartenders that early evening. Right away our eyes were drawn to the extensive shelf and array of tequila and the trendy bright frozen cocktails churning away. We got the frozen sangria and el Bandito, a mezcal-based orgeat + citrus + serrano peppers drank which was so uniquely flavored. My mouth was hella confused, in a good way. I had such a hard time deciding what to order, which means I'm def coming back. You know when there are mixologists behind the bar, and Anejo's is that spot. I can def seeing this place being a local's favorite, not divey but not pretentious. Quality spot with quality drinks, garnishes and top shelf liquor included. Will def be back to try other drinks, and even taste their food. Our table mates had food and seemed to have enjoyed it as well. Found this place on Yelp and headed over. It looked fairly recently remodeled. Great full bar and friendly service. Prices were a little higher than expected but the quality of the ingredients was evident. I had 3 tacos and they were excellent! The green salsa was delicious with the perfect amount of spice. Taste it before you dollop it on! Margaritas are served in a rocks glass. I would have preferred a margarita glass but that's a nit. Check it out! read more

Great food, amazing staff! Añejo had been on my list for a while, and we finally tried them out for dinner on Friday. Surprisingly, they weren't very busy, possibly because of their location. The restaurant was tucked away in a plaza that wasn't visible from Winchester Blvd, so you would have to know it was there. We were seated outside, in front of the restaurant, but most of their seating was indoors. Our server Martin was fantastic - so welcoming and funny! I asked if any of the cocktails could be made zero proof, and he told me they had a mocktail, which wasn't on the menu. It ended up being perfect - fruity but still refreshing. My roommate and I shared an order of Guacamole, which was small but very tasty. We ended up needing more tostadas for it, which cost $3 extra, so I do wish it had come with more. For entrees, we shared the Shrimp Tacos and Chicken Enchiladas. The tacos were tasty in a minimalistic way, but I loved the tortillas they used. The Enchiladas were fantastic - flavorful and filling. I also loved that we could get them half with Salsa Roja and half Verde. We weren't planning on getting dessert until the table next to us ordered the Churros, which looked SO good. They ended up being the highlight of the meal! The portion size was very generous (6 churros with 2 different fillings). The raspberry filling was my personal favorite, but both were delicious. Craving Mexican while in San Jose and this place popped up on yelp. Woo hoo!!!! It was fab!!!! Our server,Martin, was adorable and full of compliments. (Smart guy...) He made our experience here even better. We ordered hand shaken margs with a sugar rim, the veggie quesadilla with 1/2 carne asada, chicken enchiladas with a side of rice & black beans. *BTW - Sergei can shake a mean margarita. Oooo La La!!!! So good. Made with real limes!!! No mixes here my friends! Our food came out in a timely manner looking like a gourmet masterpiece. Finally got to check this place out Friday night. Booked a reservation on Yelp for 7:30pm. There were plenty of seats and felt pretty empty. Server was very friendly. The ambience is lacking but i can say we were impressed by the food and prices. The same dishes at a Santana Row restaurant would cost much more but the quality and flavors were satisfactory here. I enjoyed the guacamole and margarita to start. I liked my carne asada tacos, the enchilada and the Salmon dish. My bf really liked the salmon said it was cooked really well. Pretty awesome find for us. No recommendations, just read reviews! Bar/restaurant style. Excellent food. Service was a little slow. Three appetizers to start. Queso fundido comes out piping hot and sizzling. Served with an assortment of corn tortillas. It would be nice if they could add chips; be nice to have a crispy texture with the queso. Delicious. Elote corn was sweet and yummy. We had it served cut off the cob since we shared amongst the table. Fried plantain sweet and delicious. Though perhaps this would be better as a dessert. Steak fajitas for dinner. Holy cow so good! Says 8oz in the menu but sure seems like more. Branzino fish also amazing. Butterflied open with lime, radish, cilantro and onions. Chicken Mole was nice. Food speaks for itself, 5 stars! Drinks were fresh, delicious, far more ice than drink. And smaller glasses. Definitely their money maker. The atmosphere is real nice. Outer location, not so much. But once you are inside, you forget about it. Their Salmon is amazing. All their food was great. Some things needed salt. Only turn off was the bartender may have been bored, so he started dusting light fixtures over tables. Dust fell on tables, and napkins and plates. Then he would seat people down & they had no idea dust from light fixture was all over their table, plates & napkins. :( Also, rolling mop & huge bucket back n forth in front of us. Good Mexican food with good variety. We were a bit skeptical since we saw fewer items than what was actually available online. Their food from appetizers to dessert, everything tasted good. I got veg enchiladas and others in the table got taco, burritos etc and everyone liked what they ordered. Kids especially liked the chicken burrito. For dessert they had churros and tres leches. Though they warned us that their tres leches is on a drier side, we still ordered it and liked it though it wasn't the wet tres leches we are used to. Their habanero sauce is actually truly spicy and will blow your socks off. Very nice restaurant and will definitely try again read more

Anejo is a moderately upscale Mexican restaurant in a strip mall in San Jose. Dishes are light but well seasoned. My favorite was the shrimp tacos and Elote corn which they will cut off the cob for you. Make a reservation! We arrived at 6p and it was already packed. Was flying out of San Jose and wanted to grab a bite to eat so decided to stop at this new place. Really glad we did! Hands down this elote SLAPPED. You HAVE to get it. Super flavorful and tasty. Another must have on my list are the churros. Homemade here. Fluffy inside and crunchy on the outside. The third (yes numerous must haves here!) thing you gotta have are the enchiladas! Added chorizo to it and ooooo was it delicious! The quesadilla was unique but good! They fill it with veggies and corn. The crema sauce and their salsas were great! The salsa sampler was also very good. All in all their salsas here were phenom all around. Also they made their own tortilla chips! Plátanos were wonderful. Didn't end up eating the salsa with them because they were like a dessert on their own. I love soccer so this also looks like a great place to watch games and whatnot. The drinks were also yummy so it's a great sports vibe but with great food which is rare. All in all everyone that worked here was awesome. Special shout out to Martin who was very attentive and knew the menu like the back of his hand to help us with recommendations! You can tell everyone here really cares about customer service and they take pride in their food. Parking was super easy. There's a parking lot it's next to. A friend suggested this place to me, and I'm so glad she did! I was a bit nervous about parking, but Añejo is in a strip mall with lots of spaces to park. SERVICE: Staff are very friendly and helpful (and not pushy at all). They even offered me a booster seat since my toddler accompanied me. FOOD: Menu is authentic and even features sopes. Flavors are fresh and unique, and I believe there is something for everyone here. Food was served promptly and warm. 10/10 will return here. It's the best Mexican food I've ever had! AMBIANCE: lots of indoor seating with a large TV. I personally prefer not eating with TV's, but the vibes were relaxed enough for the TV to both bother me. We were at the fairgrounds for a kids event and after an afternoon dedicated to our toddler, we wanted to treat ourselves to an early dinner. Añejo was one of the first options that came up when I searched for restaurants near us. It was a warm day and an ice cold margarita sounded delicious, so we made our way. We were greeted by Andres, who ended up being our server as well. He was kind and knowledgeable and shared all of his favorite things about the menu. The margaritas were so delicious. If we had more time and didn't have to drive back down the Peninsula, I would have tried more of their speciality cocktails. We shared chicken nachos and plantains, I got the mahi mahi tacos and my husband got the enchiladas verdes. Everything was beautiful to look at and equally tasty. The decor is very modern, and I loved the garage door that was open by the bar. I'm sad we don't live nearby, but I'm sure if we are ever in the area, we'd stop by Añejo again. read more

We decided to venture out and go to San Jose for dinner. There were good reviews for this restaurant so why not try it. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean, and not a lot of people on a Wednesday night, which was good for me and we were seated quickly! The service was a nice pace, not fast and not forgotten about. So we were able to take our time and enjoy our food. The server was nice and helped us out when we needed it. Food: The food was fresh, not too many spices, the menu didn't have a lot of food options like other Mexican restaurants, and some items were ala carte (i.e. rice and beans). We went to Anejo Cantina & Kitchen and ordered the carne asado & chorizo plate and chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. I must say their enchiladas with their green chile sauce and the moist seasoned chicken filling was one of the best that I've had. As soon as it touch my mouth I knew it was housemade with natural ingredients. So when a chef knows how to make sauces I want to go back and try more. They also gave me samples of their alcoholic concoctions which are dangerously good! They have a very limited menu but what we had was good. The service was very friendly and attentive. The decor is nice, clean and modern. I would say it has more of a club vibe than a comforting food atmosphere. They are down the street from the Winchester Mystery House in a strip mall. read more

This place is AMAZING! Visited several times now (3 times in one week)! The staff is ALWAYS friendly and energetic. The food is delicious, and the place is very accommodating with dietary restrictions. I let them know that I don't eat beef/pork, and they said I could substitute it with something else for any dish on their menu. I keep coming back for the tacos, super flavorful! The tres leches cake is very fluffy, light, and surprisingly not too sweet. and OMG the churros are to die for! This may be my new favorite go-to restaurant! read more
Had reservations today at 730p with my family. The service was great from the start. We were greeted with a lot of energy. We were early so we waited a little & then seated before 730. Martin & Andres were our servers. The menu is simple but food offered is very tasty. We started off with the queso dip & the homemade tortillas were SO good! I also got a margarita & I didn't see it on the menu but saw pictures on Yelp so I just showed them the picture. They were able to make it. It was strong & very good. My husband & I shared the carne asada plate & we asked for extra tortillas. My son had the carne asada tacos (no pictures bc he ate it so fast). The fried plantains were an added snack bite as we were eating our meals. We also got beans & rice but no pictures bc we forgot. Overall, highly recommend. Nice bar. Festive interior. Food was ok. The one dish which stood out among the items we ordered was the Mexican jambalaya. The churros were a nice addition to their dessert line-up. It had a strawberry filling and was drizzled with caramel and chocolate. The customer service was very good. We had a very sweet waitress. The restaurant is located in a small plaza next door to the dry cleaners and close to a gas station. This plaza has its own parking lot. read more

I did not see any outdoor seating allowed to be honest, so not sure about dog policy !

Happy Hour is 3 to 6 pm. Weekdays only.
Our ten-year-old grandson is a pescatarian, and he doesn't like beans. We love to dine out as a family, and try to choose places that he would enjoy. We're definitely wanting to try Añejo. Any hope for his finding something from your menu?
Hi! I’m so sorry for the delayed response but yes! We offer a paella dish that we can make with just fish rice and a medley of veggies! We can also make a few other dishes that are veggie and pescatarian friendly!

Do they make paellas?
Yes we do! It’ll be a twist of the classic Spanish version as it will be made with Mexican Rice, Chorizo, and Grilled chicken, with Sofrito Crema and fresh garnishes.
