Service was exceptional. We were greeted when we walked in. We ordered take out and sat at the bar to enjoy drinks while we waited for our food. They have a huge bar in the middle of the tables. The atmosphere was hospitable, perfect for a Wednesday evening. The drinks were refreshing. Once we got home we ate just about every bite of the food. I very much enjoyed the red house hot sauce! I always drive by this place on Saturday night and it's always super busy so I decided to try it out. There was security at the door but he let us in with no issues. The hostess was extremely nice and welcoming. There was a cover charge, but she asked if we were locals and we told her yes, and they didn't charge us. I see why this place is always busy! The food was excellent. The chimichangas are the best in the area in my opinion. Complimentary chips and salsa is always a plus and they refilled them as well (always appreciated). The drinks were strong and made well (also greatly appreciated). We had a few different servers so we didn't get to really talk to anyone too much but they were all very stoic. My boyfriend and I always like to chat it up with the servers to get a real feel of the place. The restaurant business is tough and we respect that. Fortunately, Casa mariachi definitely earned our respect that night. Can't wait to return. read more

Our go to Tuesday night spot for 3 for $5 tacos. That aside, this place is the model for inconsistency. The staff here is predominately favorable towards Hispanic customers. Even for take out, they answer the phone in Spanish, ready to take the order and when you begin in English they interject, ask you to wait, and in all seriousness this can take 2-3 minutes while you overhear the employee handling multiple guests and other tasks before they come back to the phone. Yes this is a Mexican restaurant but that's no excuse to not be up to 2023 standards. After all, this is New Castle, not a predominately Mexican neighborhood. When sitting at the bar, you're most likely greeted by a bartender who does not speak English and seems to want to do everything but act as your server. As locals, we've gone there for drinks/food and left after a beer many times, because they seem to lack the basic steps of service. Forks, knives, napkins and checking back for another drink can be a 15-20 min waiting period. Sometimes you get chips, sometimes no. Sometimes your tacos come with the proper garnishes, sometimes no. After about 50 interactions, this is how our experiences have been on average. read more

The only thing I've ever known was what I've seen in a movie so Casa Mariachi was a nice little treat. The mariachi band plays on Friday nights at the bar from six to nine pm. The do a set first and then move around to the individual tables taking requests. There was quite a few birthdays so Happy Birthday was done a lot. Everyone clapped and cheered. We were not there long past nine but it appears they were setting up for a dj and dancing. My date had the carné asada which came with a whole serrano chile and an onion as well as salsa and guacamole. It was good. I had the shrimp diablo which came in a fiery red sauce with Mexican rice, French fries and a salad. It was good too. We also had two rounds of oysters on the half shell. They do things differently at Casa Mariachi. Plated with only limes and given several hot sauces I made due but really found the oysters very tasteless. It wasn't even that I missed my cocktail sauce and horseradish but at one point found myself and my date putting table salt on them. This shouldn't be happening. I don't even know what type they were because they weren't on the menu anywhere that I saw. There must have been some side conversation between my companion and my server because the platters just arrived. I would not get them again. The food an service is consistently solid (though the food does take a while to come out, which I can only assume is because they make everything from scratch), but I cannot give them a 5 star review due to a pretty unpleasant interaction I had with their over-zealous bouncer/security guard. When I ordered a drink to go with my to-go order (which is 100% legal in the state of Delaware ever since they changed the laws in response to covid), he told me I couldn't legally leave the premises with the drink and, when I informed him that it was in fact legal he almost lost his cool and I felt like if I hadn't walked away, it could have escalated to violence. I'm a 5'3", petite super-friendly 30-something woman who has never had an altercation with anyone that could have been construed as the precursor to violence, but the way this well-built, 6'2" man (sporting a bulletproof vest and *multiple* firearms) spoke to me, a bystander might have thought I had laid hands on him and tried to start a fight. I spent years working in extremely high-volume clubs and bars in NYC prior to moving to Delaware and all I can say is with someone like that working the door, it isn't a question of if things will go bad, but when. I will NEVER eat here again. This is the second time I've dealt with hair in my food. The first time I wasn't sure if it was mine since I shed myself. But this time I'm POSITIVE the hair did not belong to me. It's long, dark and curly. Her first response is we don't have anybody here with that kind of hair. What?? I don't know how it got there but at the end of the day it ended up buried deep into my food... I called to get my money back and was offered a new burrito. I told them I don't want any more food from them and to just give me my money back. I'm then told that she cannot do that without the manager. My problem is why is there not someone there at all times who can handle issues like this. I did not have to jump through hoops to give them my money. So I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get refunded. I'm disgusted and will never be back. Update: They called me back and told me that in order to get my $12 back for the burrito, I would have to bring it back. At this point I had taken multiple pictures of the hair in my food and already thrown it out. I told them that I refused to dig in that disgusting garbage to fish out that burrito. Especially considering I already took pictures and it couldn't be resold anyway. Very long story short, they got away with my money and I never got my refund. Never in my life have I dealt with such poor customer service. At this point it's the principle, not the dollar amount. I have had two dishes here probably 5 times each. The Conchinita Pibil is the best I can find locally. The complexity of flavors is so damn pleasant. The Mole could be a little more complex but if I'm in a mole mood, I'm getting it. Today has unfortunately been the first and last time I will be ordering from this place. Especially when ordering via a delivery app which helps promote restaurants im the local area. I wanted to give the restaurant a fair and honest review, and so I ordered the enchiladas, Camarones Al Chipotle and Flan. The experience has been described in 3 words; Overcooked, bland and disappointing. The shrimp from the Camarón meal has been severely over cooked to where it feels like every individual bite into the shrimp is biting down into an apple slice. On top of that, the seasoning that came with the shrimp was only spice from the chipotle peppers and had a rather pasty consistency. Needs a lot less paste, as well as a keen eye on the shrimp. Shrimp should be tender, not tough to chew. The enchiladas were unfortunately just as bland and had no taste asides just the spice of the chipotle peppers. Adding a sprinkle of salt to the food can go a long way. What has prevented me from going as harsh on the enchiladas is the fact that it came with shredded lettuce and tomatoes on top with sour cream. I couldn't have know that this would be how the restaurant would prepare it, but felt that it should have been placed on the side to keep the enchiladas from getting soggy. What made both dishes disappointing is that they both had a side of fries with them. Not so bad, you're probably thinking that I probably shouldn't be so hard since they gave me fries. These were frozen fries. When you go to a Hispanic restaurant, you expect them to make in house fries. It was sad to see that I could make better fries than what is supposed to be a restaurant and that I had wasted my money. be I honestly could not finish either item. What has truly been disappointing has been the flan. When you eat flan, what comes to mind is a tender, crew,y and sweet slice with every spoonful. I was disappointed to receive such a thin slice that makes a modern day phone in comparison look thick. The flan simply crumbled as soon as the spoon made contact. If that wasn't enough, the flan was missing milk in the making, which is an essential in making flan. There isn't much of a benefit of making and serving flan without milk in it, otherwise it'll just fall apart and crumble. I would also suggest giving a much thicker slice once the recipe and consistency has been fixed. Presently, I have the misfortune of writing this review after experiencing severe food poisoning. Overall, I would not order again and would save my money going to a Mexican Chain restaurant if I wanted better quality Mexican food compared to Casa Mariachi. read more

I have been here twice and love it. The food is great. Lunch is only $6.99 and so much to choose from.

So I normally don't waste my time doing these, but this place is great. Portions are big and full of flavor. They use authentic ingredients and it is homemade. The guacamole is the best I had around here. Also if you like spice the aren't afraid to use it. Last but not least, I finally found an empanada I can get down with!!! read more

me and my boyfriend had only gotten take out from this place; however, yesterday was a friday night and we wanted to try something different and decided to dine in. i will say our usual order of the empanadas was amazing but the service??? our waitress (i do not have her name) was very unfriendly and did not make us feel welcomed. first once we got there she took forever to come over once we were seated, 15 mins to just bring our WATERS, and then an additional 15 to ask what we wanted . (and yes we seen her at other tables) . she was very short with us as well after we had told her it was our first time . also we did not know of the mariachi band on fridays or have ever saw one in person due to it not being our culture .. me and my boyfriend are black. they also did not come up to our both and offer to play for us which made us VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. we were very disappointed and unpleased. will not be back . read more
