I've been eating often at this restaurant for the last 13 years. It recently changed hands to another family member after original owner retired. I'm very pleased to say that the food is still just as fresh and tasty as ever and the new owner has been working tirelessly to freshen the interior and project a classic yet more modern decor. The menu retains the classic favorites with a couple modern twists available. Casa built a large customer base by serving great food quickly, reasonably priced (including the drinks) and a cast of friendly, attentive wait staff that never let my iced tea get below half-full. Whenever I'm thinking of Mexican food they are always at the top of my list. To continue, because some have questioned my sincerity, I arrived here as an active duty Air Force Master Sergeant in 2002 and settled in Derby - just happened to be close by Casa. Co-workers recommended I try it and I quickly became fond of the place for the reasons I mentioned above. For those who don't like refried beans you can request whole beans as a substitute (I often do), but you can skip to the bonus round and order Mama's bean soup - it's delicious! Really wanted to love this place since it's so convenient to my house and had so many great reviews. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. My enchiladas were dry, no sauce at all. The beans and rice lacked flavor, also dry. Perhaps my food had been sitting too long before being delivered? I was surprised to see the waitress arrive with my families order without any tortillas. A Mexican restaurant where tortillas don't automatically come with your plate?! Really?!! The "hot" salsa was decent, the mild tasted like marinara sauce. No Bueno! If you're looking for authenticity, this is not the place. Thankfully, my madre and abuela taught me how to make the real deal when I can't find a restaurant to make it for me on a night out. read more

This place is fantastic! Great food and ever greater staff! This family owned restaurant is one of the most friendliest eating establishments I've ever been too. The owner and servers always remember my family and we don't come a lot. They are always on top of the ball! The food is more authentic than most restaurants in town. I've never ordered something from here I didn't like. All you can eat tacos on Wednesdays is the way to go! Yum! I absolutely love this place. The employees treat me like I am family, and I don't even dine there very regularly. The food is wonderful and not too spicy, just the way I like it. This place is good. The bad reviews simply have to be from the competition. They serve well prepared dishes FAST. If you have to wait, it is because they are level full...still get it out fast. This was quite possibly the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. I understand that I'm from Texas and have become accustomed to quality Mexican food, but that is no excuse. The only redeeming quality was their salsa...it was quite good. (But don't get seconds or they'll charge you...same for the chips.) We tried the guacamole and were disappointed by its clearly processed, overly smooth texture. The beef enchiladas were flavorless except for the processed cheese it was topped with (something similar to Velveeta). Mine came out cold (the cheese on top was hard) and I told the waitress and asked for fresh. She plopped them on another plate and microwaved them. We will never eat at Casa Martinez again. (Disappointing b/c all our friends seemed to like it. Don't be fooled). read more

Very good food. Good service. Prices are good. Atmosphere is lacking. This restaurant makes fantastic Chile Rellanos. Excellent Chicken Tortilla Soup. I love the Choriqueso. Beans are very good. House queso leaves much to be desired as it just comes out of a can. Excellent iced tea. Good chips and salsa. Good guacamole and pico. My husband seems to like their burritos. My first thought of Casa Martinez was that it was very overpriced. The prices were about 25% higher than one would expect for these menu items. The chips and salsa were OK but not great. Besides being overpriced, I noticed in the menu that they nickel-and-dime you to death. First bowl of chips is free, but refills costs money (as do refills on soda). The food here is horrible - they use grated American cheese (or some other, similar Velveeta-like fake cheese). I had a combination dinner which came with a taco, enchilada and tostada along with beans and rice. The worst part was definitely the enchilada, which smelled like wet dog. One bite of that and I had to spit it out; it was that nasty. The taco was alright, although the beef had way too much cumin. The tostada shell was extremely tough - perhaps made with a very old/stale tortilla. It was unappetizing in appearance because of the horrible fake cheese sprinkled on the top. The beans and rice were the highlight of the meal. $10 for beans & rice is very expensive. I would avoid this place at all costs. read more

The food and service are fabulous. My mother and I were shopping in the Derby area when my dad called from the Tag Office and suggested we go here for lunch. He was able to pull and number and we ate lunch together rather than just sitting in the Tag Office. I had the enchilada lunch with beans and rice. The Food hit the spot. The salsa is outstanding! At the end of the meal, the waitress (who was super friendly and accurate) brought us fresh, hot sopapillas without any extra charge. But it is certainly not the same as it was when Juan and Romi were still there. They ran a tight ship!! The food is great. The service is unprofessional and lacking. They do not address their customers with respect and act as though it is the customer's privilege to eat there, not their privilege to serve the customer. They borderline on uncouth and they also have a lack of respectful speech and manors. (Reaching over ones plate of food to fill water glasses, carrying the glasses from the top where you drink from instead of the bottom.) They also use grunts and "Yea" as a form of communication one finds quite disconcerting when consuming food. read more

The staff of Casa Martinez provided the food for our wedding reception last April, and it was an absolute hit. They allowed us to choose to main ingredients and provided all of the fixings (we chose chicken and ground beef) along with tons of rice and refried beans, salsa, and chips (we picked up our own sour cream and cheese dip, it was cheaper that way). Most everything got polished off, and we had plenty of leftover salsa in gallon jars that we found out can be refilled. And their salsa is fantastic. Overall, the food is good, and they purposefully don't go for spices that will overload your tastebuds. Its simple down-home Mexican food, and you get lots of it for a great price. Also, the management was very accommodating and friendly in making preparations for our order, and if we ever have a big event again, I would gladly use Casa. read more
