The food was really good, the pork in the sancho was tasty. The cheese sauce on her chimichanga was good also, it's real cheese and not Velveeta the owner said. The guacomole was good and the veggies were fresh. The owner was very nice and helped us with our selection. The rice is a bit different than most mexican restaurants, not bad just different. This is my personal opinion based on my experience at this restaurant I had heard numerous good things about the quality of the food and service. I was disappointed in those areas. The service was exceedingly slow to the point of me almost leaving. I stayed because the rest of the group did. They had eaten there many times We were there for over half an hour before anyone even came to ask about drinks. They were delivered promptly. But then it was another 30 minutes until came back to take food orders. Then about another half hour before it was delivered. My burrito was barely room temp I don't know if it sat in the kitchen and the waiter failed to pick it up but it was not hot. Also had a tamale and I lie not it was refrigerator cold and had cold water leaking from it On an up note the salsa was good. But I will NOT be returning any time soon. I think the food may have been good if was hot not cold or room temp Very disappointing overall experience. read more

We liked it so we ordered another. We can recommend the flour fried taco. The chili rellano was top notch. No sauce, but it was better that way. Poblano pepper and cheese in a battered pepper. This was my first time here to Cactus Cantina & Grill. I Ordered the carnitas as it is usually how I can tell if I'm eating at a good Mexican restaurant or not. The Carnitas were close to as good as I make, which rarely happens. So to say I was impressed was not only true, but gobsmacked would be a more fitting word. Only suggestion I can make is to top them with cilantro and onions. The salsas tasted and looked like store bought. The mild just tasted like tomato's, the hot didn't have enough heat, and the Pico had too much onions not enough tomatoes. This place really needs to up their salsa game. It is very weak. The rice and beans were good but unremarkable in nature. This place was good. I would definitely eat here again, and would recommend it to anyone in northern Wichita looking for a good Mexican restaurant. read more

This was not my first visit here, which was 11 years ago! I wish it was as good as it was back then. The Margaritas were as good as ever! They are worth the visit! Or service was a bit lacking. Refills on waters did not happen. We were not aware that they did not bring us the bills/ tabs. When we asked for them, they said we needed to go to the counter to get them and pay. There were 7 of us, so we were seated in the back dining room, which doubled as a storage room, we decided. The main dining room was nice and looked to have comfortable seating. The food was good. Their guacamole is very good. The beans were good, the rice was okay. I found out that the chimichanga died not come with cheese sauce and that there is a $3 charge for it. It was not $3 worth of cheese sauce, but it was really good on the chimi. All in all, everyone agreed it was good, but none of us would hurry bank. Sorry to say it is not a destination Mexican restaurant, but it is a go to for Margaritas! read more

Love, love, love this restaurant. Consistently excellent food and service. A really great place for groups and parties. I have been dining here when the previous owner Kim owned it. Daniel has owned it about 23 years now I think. There's no better fajitas anywhere. The Queso is tasty white warm yumminess. The salsa is always fresh and full of flavor. Many places the mild is bland and I mix in hot just to get flavor. I forgot and did that tonight before tasting it and squeezed too much. The hot IS hot. I didn't get a margarita tonight, but I sure wanted one as Daniel makes amazing Margaritas, always has. I have never heard of anyone having a bad meal here in all the years I have been coming here. Think twice before supporting this business. Owner has no manners. We have eaten here before and the food is bland, along with its owners. Wife parked here for 3 seconds to take care of a phone problem over at boost mobile at 11am (not even a rush hour for restaurants), since there was no parking at the boost mobile store. She did not want to park across the street as she had our 6 month old with her. The owner proceeded to come out call her a b*#}^ and insulted her weight for parking there. This is the ONLY SPOT I will go to when visiting from Phoenix. As you know, we are VERY spoiled in Arizona with Mexican food and I have tried many places all over the Wichita area until I found this gem. I almost did not want to write this review and give away my secret spot in fear that it would be overcrowded when I came back. This is,however, too good of food to keep to myself. I had the crunchy chicken taco which tasted so delicate and authentic I ordered two more. I also had the chicken enchilada with the red sauce that melted in my mouth. I have been going to Cactus Cantina & Grill since I was probably around 5 years old, and this restaurant has truly stood the test of time. Daniel is so kind and passionate about his business, and he truly cares about the people who decide dine with him. After not coming for around four years (out of town for school), I walked in and he still remembered my preferred soda with dinner. The worse Mexican food I have eaten. The owner only cared about the regular people who came in. If you didn't order alcohol with your dinner the service was really terrible. I had to wait 20 minutes to get my bill. Once I got it the waitress took another 15 minutes for me to pay. The place is a joke. The salsa was terrible and the chips were stale. I should have walked then. Taco Bell which also sucks is a five star compared to this place. Save your money and don't even try this place it's terrible. read more

It was a really odd set up. A customer had to tell us we could seat ourselves. We waited a good 10 minutes before we were greeted and got our drink orders in. The Pina Colada I ordered was runny and crunchy. The salsa was good. The chips seemed old. It smelled of raw sewage when we went which was a huge turn off but we drove all that way based off of reviews, so we stayed. My food was good but my husband ordered a Chile relleno and the batter was not fried long enough and was very luke warm. Food was not very memorable. This staff is so friendly. The service is fantastic and the food is even better. We had the queso to start. Little kick to it and super delicious. I had the Sancho and my boyfriend had the flaming fajitas. No kidding. They came out with a 10 inch flame. Watch your eyebrows. Everything had great flavor and the food was hot. The chicken con queso is very good! I am a queso connoisseur and this is a homemade queso that is delicious and consistent every time. However, the retired beans they serve have an odd spice on them, the older employees (an older woman specifically) makes very very polarizing political comments that made me very uncomfortable. QUESO HEAVEN!!!! Their white queso is absolutely to die for. They brought chips and salsa promptly to our table, one salsa was super hot, the other very mild...which made it easy to mix to my comfort level. I ordered the tacos al carbon, they were pretty spicy from the fresh jalapeño, but the steak was tender and properly seasoned. I loved their refried beans, too. Boyfriend ordered beef enchiladas which he gave five stars. The strawberry margaritas were tasty, though I didn't feel much of a buzz from it. read more
