I'll start with the food - we got an order of queso to go with our chips, and it was fine, but I'm not rushing to order it again. I got the Chori Pollo and it was delicious. My husband got the Carnitas, also pretty good. The service, unfortunately, was abysmal and soured our experience. We had asked for an extra bowl of chips when we ordered the queso. We asked again when our drinks arrived as well, but we did not get our extra chips until after our actual meals arrived. At that point, the still pretty full queso was cold and we had our meals to eat. And then that poor bowl of extra chips was hardly touched. We had to wait a long time to get our bill as well, and if we had needed something during our meal, I'm sure we would have had to go searching for some help. Went here on a date last night on 9-4-21 only 1 or 2 workers worn masks which is whatever it was clean inside and pretty busy that's the only reason we went to Los CoCo's because we've always seen it busy so was thinking they must have great food and service but man were we wrong the waiter kept on checking in like every minute if that and the salsa tasted like marinara sauce and my date ordered the chicken tacos which he didn't even finished it wasn't good at all and I ordered Enchiladas los Cabos which was kinda disgusting and it gave me food poisoning which is great when going on a date without the kids lol. Obviously, the closest to Mexican food you're going to find in Derby is from the colorful suburban "Mexican" restaurants like Los Cocos. No 3,000-word essays from me this time; just some observations: -Those hard-backed chairs fit the overly-Mexican theme, but man, they are not comfortable. -No semblance of spice is used here. You only get one type of salsa - mild - and while it's not bad (I polished off two bowls while waiting), it's nothing to write home about. Too, the chile verde I ordered had a little pepper icon next to it on the menu, but I don't know why. -The "pork tips" in the tomatillo chile were suspiciously tender for whatever cut of pork it actually was (looked more like tenderloin to me), but at least it was tender. The bright tomatillo sauce and slightly caramelized red onions provided a nice counterbalance, too. -I had no way of ordering a la carte, so I was stuck with the rice and beans. They were particularly bland in this case. -Service was nice. At the end of the meal, everyone said it was "good" and left it at that. In my experience, a dismissive comment such as that isn't so much a ringing endorsement as it is a comment that you were just looking for a reason to get out of the house. read more

Just about everything is amazing here. I catered them for my wedding because it was so good and everyone still tells me today it was some of the best wedding food they have ever had because it wasn't a normal big name cater that everyone use in town. My favorite dish here is the enchilada suiza or the chicken soup. OMG that chicken soup is so good! I always ask for my side with the enchilada's to be papa's (potatoes with lots of amazing white cheese on top). Everything here is legit, and it is probably the closest you will get to the real deal. This is the only Mexican restaurant I will consider going to because the quality is that good. Also, every time I come in the owner is always kind and greets us and makes a point to come by the table to say hello. Be sure to beat the rush from dinner or provide plenty of time to wait because sometimes the place can get packed! read more

Los cocos are the worst Mexican restaurant in derby, and it is always packed. The service is horrible and when you do get service they are mean. My young sister got a side of fries with her quesadilla and it came on an extremely cold plate and had limp fries. The tacos meat is as dry as death valley. My wife and I usually frequent Casa rather than Los Cocos, but this Friday we had lunch here and it was on point. Margaritas not the best but you can't beat the price, carne asada tacos were on point and my wife got a vegetarian burrito that she modified with all sorts of add ons... our server, Juanito, not only did he get our orders perfect but he did it all by memory.
