My wife and I consider ourselves to be foodies. We live in Denver and have a place in Winter Park. Casa Mexico is hands down the best restaurant in town. The "traditional" Mexican food (burritos, enchiladas, etc.) is good, but the more unique dishes and meats are amazing. Our favorites include the Casa Mexico Platter, the enchipotlada, the Molcajete, the carnitas, the alambre, and the Esteban Margaritas. Horrible service. They served CHICKEN in my vegetable fajita. When I told them, server said it is Cook's mistake and he cannot do anything about it. We had to pay for the dish in full. Stopped at Casa Mexico today after skiing and it was one of the beat experiences I have had at any Mexican restaurant in a long time. The food tasted incredibly authentic - I ordered a chili relleno burrito with chicken smothered in green chili which was incredible. Had a happy hour margarita that was strong yet delicious. Topped it off with a shot of tequila (made in house and on the house). Such a great experience that I would highly recommend to anyone in the area. read more

First time last time. Food was good but the server was a jerk and wouldn't split tickets in two for a 300 dollar party. The margarita they named after someone was ok if you're a fan of straight tequila. Not knocking it if you're an alkie but there was no consistency of any of them served on the table. We kind of liked this place, but it's located way in the back of the second level of a shopping center, and not easy to find unless you are looking for it. They say, "Mexican food so authentic, you'll leave speaking Spanish," or something like that. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but we were happy with our meals. The Veggie Burrito I had was huge, and tasty. I liked that they had both Cholula, and another, hotter sauce right on the table. The hotter sauce really was HOT. I liked it. The salsa was pretty good, and mild enough for anyone, but tasty enough to please. They also serve a cheesy dip with their chips. The cheesy dip is kind of bland. Put a couple of drops of that Cholula in there, and it perks right up. They seem to push the margaritas, but you can get a good, house margarita for $5.75, and it is worth it, except I noticed mine seemed kind of diluted after it sat for a while. The first sip had the great taste of tequila and lime, but not so much after that. It was fair enough for the price. All in all, I liked this place, and would come back again. LOVE this place! Four of us shared the big varied meat platter (I forget the name). It was delicious and was plenty for all of us, even though the menu says "for two." First off we had just driven for about 22 hours, were very tired and feeling the altitude. We found Casa Mexico in down town Winter Park, It is a cozy little spot you can sit outside weather permitting. First time here and it was amazing, our waiter was also from Ohio was very helpful and attentive. He told us that we were thee during happy hour, they had beef taco's for $1.00 each! I couldn't pass that up less than Taco Bell. We also had Supreme Nacho's with chicken. it was all great, they set you up with water, chips, salsa and queso dip.The salsa and queso are great a little spicy just he way we like it. The service was outstanding fast and helpful, our waiter suggested drinking lots of water to fend off altitude sickness and brought us a pitcher of ice water. This place has to be on your list for dinner if you are visiting or a local. We will be back before we leave for sure. read more

It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. We were seated right away which was nice. The autmosphere was boring. Our initial waitress did not speak english so it was a bit hard giving her our drink order. They bring you chips and salsa to start with as most mexican resturants do, but in addition they bring a small bowl of queso. The salsa was good, but the queso was watered down and needed more flavor. My wife had the super buritto which had very little meat in it. I had the fajita buritto which was okay. Service was quick, but it was all business, no rapport established with our waiter at all. If you have a terrible craving for mexican food this place might tide your craving for the moment, but you'll be longing for your favorite mexican resturant once you leave. read more

Wow! I am sitting here with a full stomach of great food and high spirits! The service is on point. The servings are massive and very delicious. The margaritas are dangerous. Take it from me, don't sip too much before your dinner gets there! Good vibes and good times! And on top of all that, after dinner they came over with their house made tequila in a moose hoof and poured everyone a shot on the house! A few of us were unsure... A tequila shot so close to dinner? But it was the best tequila I've ever had cross my lips. I could easily drink 5 more, black out, and run around the restaurant in my underwear. Wow! Surprised that this restaurant has such good reviews. This place was below average. I ordered iced tea which tasted terrible, even after sweetening it with several packets of sugar. I ordered the tacos rancheros, and the steak was decent but the tortillas were so soggy I had to eat them with a fork & knife. The chips were so stale that we didn't even eat them. My husband's steak tacos were nothing special either. I'm not sure of the competition in the area for Mexican restaurants, but I know a place like this in our hometown of Chicago would never survive. If we go out once a week, we go to Casa Mexico. What a great addition to Winter Park Dining. My personal favorite is the Cancun Platter with an Esteban Margarita. The volcano bowl is great and the hubby likes the beef tongue tacos. We often share a dinner (plates are huge) and augment with a yummy crispy relleno. We always go for dinner, but hear that HH and lunch are great too. You know you're in a good restaurant when you recognize half the faces at the surrounding tables. With out a doubt the best restaurant in the Winter Park area. It's a little off the beaten path but well worth finding. They have delicious authentic Mexican specialties along with the more traditional gringo dishes so everyone will be able to find something that strikes their fancy. We ate here last week and had a really nice meal and margarita, but this week we were extremely disappointed. My food was cold, my son's pork carnitas just not great, and our waiter completely ignored us the entire meal. Not once did he check to see if we needed anything, nor did he refill water. He passed by our table multiple times after we were finished and never even looked our direction, and finally picked up my credit card after 10-15 minutes, returning it without a word to us. The place is just ok. We tried it based on reviews we read. The host was sweet and seemed genuinely happy to see us. We were immediately seated. Our server did his job a little slow, but in his defense it was a little busy. Their salsa has good heat but not a lot of good flavor from the other salsa elements. The queso dip was ok. My family usually devours the chips and salsa and will get a second serving, we didn't finish the first offering. I had tortilla soup. The chicken seemed heated from frozen but there were fresh avocados,onion, cilantro and cheese in the soup. The same host was kind in wishing us a good evening. Again, it was ok but if I could have do overs for the evening knowing what I know, I would probably eat somewhere else. Solid 4. We are tourists on our way through town, and decided to stop for lunch. The location is great because there are cute shops to look at before or after you eat. I went to dinner there last night. This restaurant recently opened up and is in the exact location of a former "mexican" restaurant.. The former restaurant was tragically bad. Thank God these guys opened up! I ordered the 3 tacos platter. I got the lengua (tongue) carnitas and carne asada. It was accompanied by rice and beans and a small plate of fresh cilantro and lime. Sublime! The plate was bigger than my head. Every table had a fresh rose. Nice. Atmosphere sort of cheesy but I don't care. I'll eat there again. The waiter was new and was a complete jerk to some of our section. The manager was no better and tried to justify his pour excuse of a so called waiter. We came here on a Friday night and it was fairly busy, the food was just as you would expect from a Mexican restaurant, nothing to really write home about. They serve chips and salsa and some white queso dip which was tasty. We usually have frozen flavored margaritas, but these weren't the best we've ever had - because, as EVERYONE in this establishment had on their table, the house margarita was pretty legit.
