We came here last night to watch the game and have some appetizers and drinks. We ordered the fiesta platter and strawberry, cucumber, pomegranate, and Tamarindo margaritas. It went perfectly with the apps and there was plenty for all 4 of us. We had a great time eating and drinking. The drinks were not too sweet and definitely on the stronger side which is totally fine. We were seated outside and had a great view of the televisions. When we out in our name, there was a mix up with how many were in our party, which delayed us getting seated. The service was friendly and slightly delayed since it was packed due to the world series game. We would definitely want to come back and try other items too. Parking was tricky but again on a Friday night and a world series game, it made sense. read more

We were so excited to visit this place as I hadn't been there since it moved from across the street many many years ago! We walked up to the hostess who was an older lady with short hair. She told us the the wait was 30 minutes!!!! There was no one else waiting. I'm a foodie so I've gone to several restaurants and they NEVER tell you 30 minutes unless it's the Cheesecake Factory. Even worst is that there were empty tables which her hostess try to tell her but with her hand she told her to stop talking. Recently stopped in with friends and my dog for dinner. We asked to be outside since I do not have a service dog and the weather was nice out. The food was delicious--Casa Moreno never disappoints. I wanted to shoutout Susan in particular because she was exceptional. She recommended a delicious dish for my friend--he ended up loving it and she went above and beyond to make the dining experience for my pup just as lovely. I came, I saw, I ate, I drank....and enjoyed!! There's nothing like an "old reliable" that you forgot you remembered. I've lived in Covina for awhile now ...and at one point lived LITERALLY across the street from their old location in Downtown Covina. They moved across the street some time ago, to a bigger two story location that is beautiful and well-decorated. Service was excellent, the food was hot - as in well-cooked. The food was excellent and well-prepared. Each of us ordered our preferred dishes and all was enjoyed with gusto! Next time, I won't forget that this gem is so close by. read more

Just left a few moments ago; very dissatisfied. My husband and I went for happy hour because we saw their post on IG. We sat down and our server was Susan, she said "welcome it's happy hour, would you like a drink". We ordered margaritas, tamarindo and cucumber. We ordered another round, strawberry and watermelon. Final round of watermelon and cucumber. We also ordered beef nachos. We received our bill and everything was regular priced, when i asked Susan about it she said that what we ordered wasn't eligible and that where we were seated also doesn't qualify for happy hour. Did she express this to us once?? No. According to her, we should have noticed that there wasn't happy hr menus at our tables (it's not a huge place) and that happy hr menu is only for the bar area. No where is there signage that says this. Not even on the picture. She said our margaritas were craft and couldn't be marked down, only strawberry because it is "fruity". Mind you, on the menu it doesn't list margaritas as FRUITY and last time i checked, watermelon, tamarindo and cucumber are considered fruits. She said no one else was confused by this. She claimed to be the manager and marked $2 off SOME of the drinks, not all. And said there was nothing else she could do, and that the nachos i ordered were not happy hr nachos even tho she didn't specify there was a difference when i ordered them. We sat outside, very pleasant, service could have been a little more attentive. I had 1Mula a round mini quesadilla filled with carne asada, cheese, guacamole and pico de gallo. Served with rice and beans. The best thing about this dish was the rice and next the beans. They served this with a steak knife, good thing, the mini tortilla was hard and robbery. Good thing I had the knife. The meat was dried and in little pieces. My wife had Chicken Tostada. The chicken was very dry very and small amount of pico de gallo. Guacamole and sour cream. When she asked for more salsa it cost $1.50 for a small container. Our friend had 4 Taquitos with guacamole and sour cream served with rice and beans. The taquitos were very dry. I would say this is a very Americanized Mexican restaurant. read more

The wifey and I have enjoyed CASA MORENO's Claremont restaurant multiple dozens of times over the past decade or so, even making it our preferred spot to host out of town family and friends when they were visiting. So, while we respected owner's Susie and Paolo Diaz's decision to shutter the Claremont location, it still left us heartbroken. Just your classic first world problem, riiiiiiiight?! Over the ensuring nine or so months we sought to satiate our love affair with superb Mexican cuisine with a half dozen competitors, but fast forward to last FRI evening and we surrendered ... ... The clarion call of Susie's smoked achiote pepper salsa, those crunchy, browned cheddar beef tacos, frisbee-shaped, gold medal tasting Mulitas and don't get me started on their wickedly satisfying bread pudding summoned us like sheep to the slaughter! Don't get us wrong-- we've never had a problem with the Diaz Family's original Casa Moreno, in old town Covina, per se. But my wife was once trailed back to her car and almost robbed after a "girl's night out" meal a couple years ago, so we've always vastly preferred the Claremont location. Leti wasn't terribly hungry so she went with an appetizer in lieu of a full meal- Their ceviche. She pronounced it "fresh and tasty." I backed my way into what I'm calling a "Pro Tip" for anyone lusting after Steak Fajitas but wanting to shave $4 off their menu price-- Order the "Asada de La Mexicana," which comes with a nice sized flank steak grilled to your like (medium rare or medium, never order it more than medium cooked!), plus rice, beans, salsa, guacamole and your choice of tortillas. Save yourself $4 by cutting your own steak into strips (and go without the yummy but not vital grilled onions and peppers)! Our visit coincided with excellent live entertainment, a fresh-faced young Pinoy gentleman who flawlessly executed a repertoire of songs including Neil Young's "Harvest Moon." C'mon now, fellow Casa Moreno partisans, let's do a much better job of keeping the skilled singer-songwriter's tip jar filled! Menudo came custom with no hominy, sorry diet. Wife had machaca and eggs. Dogs had chopped up chicken breast, no salt. We sat outside and the area was clean and comfortable. Great authentic family owned Mexican restaurant. There are a couple things that I love so much and I crave from here. The chicken Milanese is delicious. One of the best! A server recommended the steak Milanese and it was so tender and delicious. I'm pretty picky. Also their hard shell tacos are so good! Every one of them. Family owned and operated definitely shines through with the entire vibe of the place. I love walking into a restaurant and feeling like I'm at my family's house. Great fajitas and ambiance. Glad I came on Friday night. Only had to wait about ten minutes and we were able to dine inside and listen to the amazing mariachis. The manager was lovely and personable. She saw that it was taking a bit for anyone to come to our table but she made sure we were taken care of. I think this is our new Friday night spot. read more

Best margarita around. The casa Moreno margarita is delicious and will give you a nice buzz. Place gets busy weekend nights and there is live music. I recommend the carnitas plate. It's so tender and never dry. They also have an extra spicy salsa you can ask for which is fire. read more

I like to come here for lunch and I'm always greeted by a friendly face and a smile. I love the service here. This staff has never met a stranger. You get to choose between indoor and outdoor seating. Today, I chose indoors because it was hot, and the AC was everything I wanted. One of my treats to myself is stopping at Casa Moreno for a margarita and chips & salsa. Unfortunately, they're back to not serving chips & salsa when you only purchase a margarita. So...I can order a $10 appetizer and be served the chips, but not if I order a $13 drink. Doesn't make sense; actually, going to a Mexican restaurant and being denied chips & salsa makes no sense. The bartender made a good margarita and was very apologetic, but I do not see myself coming here anymore. I personally recommend Mariposas on Grand or La Tolteca on Azusa Ave. They serve very good margaritas and CHIPS & SALSA, happily. read more

This is a two month late review. I was here for the first time meeting friends. The place is nicely set in the middle of Covina. Staff is nice and kept checking on us. There is enough seating to accommodate a big party and they have outdoor seating. On this day I had the taco plate-pic attached. The tacos and rice were delicious except for the refried beans. There was something off about them and not great tasting, kind of tasted like they came from a can but I could be wrong. Anyway, If i'm ever back in the area, I may stop by again. read more

I couldn't finish my plate because I'm allergic to food that sucks so I sent my plate back ..... the enchiladas crema plate was so disgusting it looked like baby barf when I got it and tasted just as bad my husband got the posole and it had no meat and the hominy was uncooked plus they told him it didn't come with tortillas only tostadas and refused to give him tortillas on top of all this the service was absolutely horrible..... BTW the owner leaving the reply should really try that gross plate I sent back to see why I left the horrible review on this place I mean all the other bad reviews on your gross restaurant really out weigh the few good reviews on here also train your restaurant staff better on serving customers read more

What happened did the cook quit or did he get lazy. Food was mediocre, fajitas were dried and over cooked. Margarita sucked, so much triple sec and lemon juice. I usually have 2 or 3 well one enough tonight. Loved this place but today was a full disappointment!! No, it was not even busy. I wonder why!! For the price I paid might just not come back.
