    Tacos Dorado (chicken)
    Kevin M.

Max's was a solid choice while we were looking a late dinner in Azusa. They are located in the heart of downtown Azusa across the street from Penny Roasters Coffee. The evening we went the restaurant was 80% full. The staff greeted us when we walked in. I believe one of the gentleman might have been the owner himself. He was super welcoming . The restaurant has great decor all over the restaurant and a lively atmosphere. The staff that helped us were all attentive and personable. We were given chips and salsa shortly after seating. I love the locations that offer fresh crispy chips. I ended up ordering one of Desebrada Shredded Beef Burrito (wet) and they told me I could do the half red and green sauce. I also ordered one of the Chicken Dorado (crunchy taco). My wife ordered a taco combo plate and Jalapeño Vodkarita. The portions were generous and abundant. My burrito was hefty! I enjoyed every bite of that wet burrito. Saucy and full of deliciousness. The affordable pricing is great because of the amount of food. The taco was fine, but I'd got with a burrito again since you can take the rest home. My wife enjoyed her food and drink. We had never been here in all these years. Max's Mexican Cuisine will be on our list again when are craving some Mexican food. ( ^_^)b

    Got the Jalapeño Skinny Vodkarita

My husband and I arrived here on a Friday night around 9. There were a few parking spots in the front to choose from in the downtown area. We were greeted and sat right away. I wasn't planning to eat or get an alcoholic beverage, but figured why not. It was Friday and I worked hard all week. We were given complimentary chips and salsa while we browsed through the menu. I ordered the One Soft Taco Combination Plate with grilled chicken and no cheese (in the taco and on the refried beans). I also ordered the Skinny Jalapeño Vodkarita. The drink came first. It was light, refreshing, not heavy on the vodka, and had the perfect amount of heat. We waited about 15 to 20 mins for our food. The combo plate was pretty good. The grilled chicken was cooked well and I liked the combination of the fresh lettuce and diced tomatoes. The soft taco was not soggy or crumbly. The Spanish rice was fluffy and aromatic. The refried beans were creamy and had an earthy flavor. There was so much food I had to box the rest. Overall, this was a good spot to dine at for a late night bite.

    Cantarito (soooo good! )

Been here a couple of times with my family- The owner is mostly there and greets you like you're a long lost family member he hadn't seen in years.. so welcoming- I had the cantarito to drink (alcoholic beverage must try) and a suiza enchilada plate- always fresh and served hot. Our waiter Andrew was great! Friendly, helpful and mentioned he was actually the grandson of the owner. Super sweet. There were a few large groups like ours- we had asked for 4 separate checks. My only disappointment and 5 star take away was when the cashier brought the check to the table- she walked over and just left it on a tray and said I'll leave this right here- my sis in law mentioned to her that we requested separate checks and her attitude was awful! She turned around pulled the checks apart and sorta just threw them as she said they're right here.. I mentioned her rudeness to our waiter Andrew not sure if they schooled her on customer service.

    Carne Asada Burrito

Tried this place out for the first time and the food was a solid 3.75. I rounded up coz the service was pretty good. They were very attentive and checked on us frequently. My husband can't handle heat and they gave us options for salsa for him. We ordered the carne asada wet burrito, side of chile relleno, and side of beef flautas. The wet burrito was good and great portion. The chile relleno came out warm and not hot. Would've enjoyed it more if it was hot. Flautas were good. Packed with lots of meat. I had it for leftovers next day and it was good air fried.

Met my friend here for lunch since I was in her neck of the woods and omg, I am so glad I found this place (although she's a local and has been here many times - lucky!!). This kind of Mexican restaurant is right up my alley. Great food, stiff drinks, excellent service, and lively atmosphere. Oh, and plenty of chips and salsa!! I had the two tacos combination platter (one beef, one chicken) w/ a skinny jalapeño margarita. Along w/ guacamole to accompany the chips and salsa for the table - this meal was incredible. I could've walked out and gotten hit by a bus and would've been happy that this was my last meal. We were seated upstairs and it was a little more intimate and cozy w/ low ceilings (look out tall people!). Service was so on point, we never had to rubberneck once, the servers were always present without being overbearing. Not sure if there is dedicated parking for the restaurant, but there was plenty of street parking during Sunday afternoon. I think I found my new favorite Mexican spot in the Covina/Azusa area!!

This is absolutely the best pozole ever! They offer red and green, I've only had the red pozole because it's pork the green is chicken. The service is outstanding I think everyone of the service personal waited on us to make sure everything was okay! They have a super cute bar in the middle of the restaurant which is super cool and decorated with dollar bills! A delicious restaurant to eat! The Cadillac margaritas are wonderful and big!

My family and I have been customers of Max's Restaurant for over twenty years. Going back to their previous and much smaller location on Foothill Blvd not far from their current and much larger location. On the many previous visits, Max's has always been a very pleasant dining experience. During this recent visit, service was very slow for the first 3/4 of our time spent here. Our drink orders were taken by an older, female waitress. Our drinks never arrived. Twenty minutes went by before a young male waiter came by and asked if we had received our beverages and we said, "No". Our drink orders were taken once again and ten minutes later, we received our drinks. We also placed our food orders at this time. We have now been here twenty-five minutes and we are now just placing our food orders. My wife and I ordered the chile verde pozole, a cheese quesadilla and a chicken burrito. We ate most of the chips and salsa which were brought to us prior to placing our food orders as we were very hungry. Chips and salsa were delicious. Getting back to our food order, we waited, and waited and waited some more for our food to be delivered to our table. It took thirty-eight minutes from the time we placed our order for our food to finally arrive. Needless to say, I was EXTREMELY irritated. The cheese quesadilla was extremely greasy which I will blame on the cheese, the pozole and my chicken burrito were good. The negative was I had asked for no rice in my burrito and it arrived with extra rice. The restaurant was extremely crowded and super loud. The three older gentlemen sitting in the booth behind our booth apparently LOVE the, "F" word bcos every other word coming from their very loud conversation was, "F" this and "F" that, "B". The final nail in the coffin was when we received the bill. It was almost $70.00 for breakfast. Pozole, cheese quesadilla, chicken burrito, large horchata and a large diet soda. We know Max's prices and this was the most we have ever paid for breakfast. Prices have DEFINITELY gone up. We WILL visit again but not as often as we have over the years. This was NOT a good dining experience.

First time here and it was great! We went straight to the bar area and it was popping! We order an appetizer sampler and it was good! The drinks were in a decent size and it was strong! They also came by to sing happy birthday with a flan! Had a blast and would come back anytime!

The location is great. Nice parking options. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Had a Bloody Mary but it wasn't the best. Very little "mix" and therefore little flavor. It had ample vodka but the flavor was lacking. Only ate a side of taquitos and rice/beans al la carte. Food was good. But if you're looking for a cocktail, stick to margaritas.

    Braxton H.

Service was great! Ambiance was a classic sit down Mexican restaurant. I felt that the beans had a sweet taste that I didn't really like. The tamale was good but the meat inside was a little dry, the salsa was also not very flavorful. Would go if trying for the first time or a late night margarita with the boys.

I went to Max's for breakfast with my husband, as usual, we were greeted with a smile and the famous "where have you been". This place is delicious. I had menudo and it was excellent!! Not only did they serve it with no meat, it was a perfect portion. Making this my number one Menudo spot.

    Good drinks!

Really love the vibes -Love the staff! So very friendly. Chips and hot sauce good. This post is for those with dairy allergies or sensitivities. All meat- ALL Meat is marinated in dairy marinade- bummer for me as I'm allergic to the dairy protein. This is not noted on the menu and the waitress had to ask cook staff. So we drank margaritas, had guacamole and chips. Highly recommend this place. Very responsive wait staff. We felt very taken care of. Just wish there was option to have meat (chk, beef or shrimp) without the dairy marinade if requested.

We're just finished a hike nearby and did a search for Mexican restaurant and ended up here a few minutes later and we are very glad that we did! The place has a fun, cute ambience, but it does have holiday decorations up currently that will probably come down soon. The staff couldn't have been more professional or pleasant and the food was excellent and filling. The first thing that I mark a restaurant down for is the salsa since that's the very first thing you get and I like a thicker salsa more than a picante more liquidy salsa, but even though there was more of the picante style, it was very flavorful and very spicy, and no matter how much you drink that spice would stay in your mouth, and that wasn't a bad thing. We don't live nearby, but we do hike over this way occasionally and I'm sure we will stop by again.

They did many things without being asked. Some examples they provided plastic utensils, extra plates, extra Napkins. They even had a mini container on the table for us to put our bones and dirty Napkins in. When I dropped my chopstick the server was there with a new set right after I picked it up. When we ran out of Napkins, They immediately brought new ones all without being asked. These may seem like little gestures but goes along way for us.
