I've heard this is the longest running Mexican restaurant in Boston so it's been on my list forever. It was even more unassuming than I expected; a literal hole in the wall. The hibiscus spritz was enormous and delicious. So many interesting dishes, a lot of cactus, that you don't often see on menus. We sat at the bar and the bartender was the type of local friendly bartender who'd worked at a bunch of other bars in the area and could give great recommendations. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Make reservations! You don't want to miss this hidden dinner spot near Newbury! We were seated swiftly after giving our name and the servers came over right away to help us. After deciding what to eat, the food came out right on time- perfect spacing between ordering, appetizer, and meal. If you want a pleasurable, quick but not rushed, and fun dining experience, this is the place to go! The restaurant itself is colorfully decorated with traditional hispanic artwork creating an immersive night from the moment you step into the secret restaurant. In addition to the music and lively energy of the customers, the atmosphere was very exciting. The food itself did a great job of serving up delicious flavors and the menu offers a variety of options for everyone. For the price, serving sizes were decent and not overly filling. I highly recommended this spot for when you want to have a nice and special get together with friends or family, but just want something quick and casual or don't want to break the bank.

Came here for lunch. As most reviews noted it's not a lot of food given the price. The food itself was delicious! The fajitas could have added a bit of spice to it. It was begging for some heat! Overall it was good. We washed it all down with a Sangria and a Diet Coke. Which was good. The service was a bit rough. Place got packed and only had two servers. Definitely need to get more servers in place! The place itself it's cool! It's basically underground down an alley way. Super cool entrance! Would return if portions were bigger or prices were adjusted. It's hard to justify lunch at $100 for two people.

    $4 charge for every table.

There is a $4 'kitchen appreciation' charge added to every table. Not for large parties, EVERY table. No thanks!

The first time I went to Casa Romero I couldn't find the door because it is so unassuming from outside, but once inside you are greeted with a lively environment, fun colors, and lovely employees. The food is also delicious - we started with chips and salsa, ate the al pastor tacos and finished with the churros, all of which were excellent. Can't wait to come back!

Friday night dinner with my Latina posse. Good food. Waiter was great. Cheesy decor but goes well with the place. - Chips with salsa and guac: Delicious (finally guac with enough salt and lime) - Al pastor taco plate: Delicious - Piñata Margarita cocktail (extra spicy by request): Waiter was skeptical when I told him I wanted it SPICY. I don't blame him. Boston doesn't really do spicy. I'm always underwhelmed by the spicy drinks in this city. But he and the bartender DELIVERED. It was perfect. The place is is definitely on the pricy side. I'd easily have paid 30-50% less for all this in LA. $15 for chips, guac, and salsa is kinda hilarious. But also hard to fault them for this when it's back bay and they know it's hard to find good tacos in Boston.

Absolutely incredible food and drink that live up the hype! The margaritas were strong and flavorful, and the food was a home run. The guac and salsa were up there with some of the best I've ever had - flavored to perfection, and so fresh. The chicken fajitas were also phenomenal - huge portions, lots of flavor, and presented beautifully. Although it's a bit on the pricier side, it's worth every penny to have some of the best Mexican food you'll ever eat!

I'd to preface this by saying that I did enjoy my experience at Casa Romero and the food was good. There are a few things here or there that took this from a 4 to a 3 to me. That being said, I would definitely recommend this restaurant given how scarce sit down mexicqn is in the area and my entree and drinks were awesome. 1. Price inconsistency. The menu prices floating around online and even the prices in the restaurant were wildly different. By wildly, I mean I saw about 13.50 for chips, salsa, and guacamole online, in person the menu said 17. Margaritas in the main menu said 20 each, on our table with specialty cocktails it said 18. Even two menus in front of me did not have the same price. 2. Food price and quantity. Chips, salsa, guacamole. Chips were cold plain and simple. 17$ for cold chips and good salsa and guacamole is not worth it to me. I would skip them if I go next time. There are local places where you can grab a to go container of fresh chips and equally as impressive salsa and guacamole and save 5$ too. I will say the other appetizers might do better in this area, but it's hard to pass up chips and salsa. My entree the cochinita pibil was awesome and at 25$ I'd get it again. Portions for the pork were perfectly fine. I feel like I could have used more beans and rice. Every other place usually dumps a truck load on the plate, so it was jarring when I had to ration my usage per tortilla. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions on the menu. Get a reservation if you go.

    Spicy Pineapple Margarita. Sooooo good!

Not easy to find, but after our 2nd attempt we found it! We weren't thinking it would be in an alley! The bartender told us this is the 1st Mexican restaurant in New England. Well, alright then! It's a must try! I started off with the Spicy Pineapple Margarita and never looked back. They use fresh ingredients, never a pre-made margarita mix, which is probably why it was so yummy. It was a weekend, so service was a little slow, but we didn't mind. Sorry for the quality of the photos. The lighting was low and I didn't want to use a flash and disrupt the ambiance. :) We will definitely be back!

We walked into a small, unassuming space where the focus is squarely on freshly prepared food made with bold, authentic flavors. The dining room is modest and functional, with a counter and a handful of tables that give it the feel of a neighborhood taquería rather than a sit-down restaurant. The energy is practical and welcoming, with the open kitchen allowing us to see the tortillas being pressed and the meats being grilled fresh behind the counter. The birria tacos are the signature order and the dish that defines the menu. We ordered a few and found the tortillas crisped up on the griddle, the beef tender and well seasoned, and the rich consommé served on the side for dipping. The combination of the savory meat, the crispy tortilla, and the deep, slightly smoky broth made each bite feel layered and complete. Other standouts include the adobada tacos, which had a good char and a subtle spice that built gradually, and the lengua torta, with tender tongue layered between a soft roll and topped with fresh ingredients. The pozole was hearty and comforting, with a broth that carried the flavor of the hominy and meat without being overly heavy. The tamales, chicken flautas, and well-seasoned rice and beans rounded out the menu, each arriving hot and freshly made. The pickled onions and house salsas added extra flavor, and the horchata was a popular choice to pair with the meal, its cinnamon sweetness cutting through the richness of the dishes. Service was friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant maintained a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere that keeps people coming back. Despite its modest size, the kitchen moved efficiently, making it a reliable option for both dine-in and takeout. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, ensuring that even when the small dining room filled up, the experience stayed smooth. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in the Boston area, Taquería Jalisco stands out for its consistently flavorful cooking, generous portions, and menu built around classic recipes rather than modern interpretations. It is the kind of place where the food speaks for itself, and the simplicity of the setting only adds to the sense that you are eating something made with care and tradition.

I had been craving fish tacos for a really long time, and I was delighted to find a whole section of the menu dedicated to them. We started off with margaritas - one of the best companions to fish tacos - and I ordered mine spicy with jalapeño. For food, we shared the lobster empanadas and chorizo and potato taquitos. I ordered the tempura fish tacos for myself. Our margaritas were brought out shortly - mine was refreshing but lacked the kick from the jalapeño that I was hoping for (there was only one thin slice of pepper). Our food was brought out shortly, and I found it a bit overwhelming when our appetizers and tacos came out together. I started with my tacos, and these were excellent. The fish was flaky and fried to perfection, and I loved the rainbow of sauces and toppings. Plus, the tortillas were nice and sturdy and didn't tear. The lobster empanadas were super decadent, and I appreciated the substantial amount of lobster stuffed inside. I was too full to eat much of the taquitos but took a few bites. These also had good flavor but weren't standouts. Next time, I'd just get the tacos and maybe a light app. Towards the end of our visit, the restaurant seemed to clear out, and we had a difficult time trying to locate our server for the bill. Overall, we had a nice meal and satisfied the fish taco craving.

The Seaport space is just as stunning--decked out in pink, super aesthetic, and definitely a fun, photo-worthy vibe. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. For drinks, I ordered a pitcher margarita with jalapeño, and it was disappointing. It didn't taste fresh and came across more like artificial jalapeño flavoring rather than real infusion--and it wasn't spicy at all. For food, we ordered a variety of small plates to share. Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out. It felt a bit underwhelming compared to the atmosphere. The biggest issue was the service. It was very slow throughout the night, and getting the check was especially frustrating--it took about 30 minutes, and we had to ask multiple times before finally receiving it. Overall, the ambiance is beautiful and perfect for a celebration, but the drinks and service didn't match the vibe. Hoping this was just an off night.
