Mamacita is a fast casual Mexican food restaurant on Huntington Ave by Northeastern. I hate to say it but after hearing great things about Mamacita from Northeastern students, especially compared to El Jefes, I was pretty disappointed. The portions here are good but the food itself was average. I got rice, chicken, pineapple salsa, salsa verde, refried beans, lettuce, pickled onions, and onion and cilantro. The rice tasted like the kind from a bag and the most flavor I tasted was from the onions. It wasn't horrible but I think El Jefes is much better and I don't even love it that much. It is a better place to go if you want to sit but I wouldn't come back.

Awesome as always! What a great atmosphere! Great fun music, amazing decor, good filling tasty food and good service great value! What more could you ask for???? Go here if you haven't already! One tip - get their loyalty card and get it stamped every time for rewards! Have your 9th meal on them!!!

The Northeastern U area has quite a shortage of decent Mexican food. Qdoba..ehh, plus was way better in 2005 - 2010 time when the mole sauce existed. El Jefe's Taqueria is good but there lacks some flavor/spices. Same with Amelias Taqueria. Then came this place. Ordered delivery. First off one of the few places that serves pupusas, I think closest other place that does that is in Brigham Circle, so awesome! Also ordered double decker taco chicken tinga, burrito with barbacoa, chips and queso. - Pupusas: I ordered two, I think they need to update doordash because looks like there were two different kinds, both were delicious! The slaw was well seasoned but not watery, and the tomato sauce with it was excellent. - Double decker chicken tinga taco: I could taste the tinga flavors through and through, was great! My only regret, my own fault, probably should've skipped refried beans because the hard shell was soft by the time it was delivered. - Chips and queso: Queso tasted good, similar to taco bell nacho cheese. If you're not into that kind of cheese, skip it, but I like it. - One giant Barbacoa burrito: Won't be dissappointed by the size, they fill that tortilla to the brim. Trying to take a photo of it, but if I cut it in half, it would be quite a mess, but great ingredients, great barbacoa! I didn't ask for rice but was in there anyway, guess next time will put note no rice. All and all, good food delivered. Will stop on by one day in the restaurant too.

A personal favorite! Service is always fast and portions are fair for boston. Watch out for the hot sauce though, if it says it hot it's really hot lol. Will recommend!

A really cute place to get Mexican food! The artwork was fun and colorful. The seating was also roomy and there were even cushioned seats in the back. The service was a lot like chipotle and we were served very quickly. The ingredients tasted fresh, the bowl wasn't too salty, and the rice was so flavorful. I didn't feel weighed down afterward. The portions were quite big and could probably last for multiple meals or people. They had so many options that it could fit pretty much any dietary restriction. Vegetarians should try the tofu or Mexican falafels if you are looking for a protein. This is a great place for families or students to share a meal.

The little complimentary touches at the beginning and end made it feel special. Will be back.

Taquería Jalisco is a casual Mexican restaurant in East Boston specializing in traditional…read morestreet-style tacos, tortas, tamales, and dishes inspired by the flavors of Jalisco. We walked into a small, unassuming space where the focus is squarely on freshly prepared food made with bold, authentic flavors. The dining room is modest and functional, with a counter and a handful of tables that give it the feel of a neighborhood taquería rather than a sit-down restaurant. The energy is practical and welcoming, with the open kitchen allowing us to see the tortillas being pressed and the meats being grilled fresh behind the counter. The birria tacos are the signature order and the dish that defines the menu. We ordered a few and found the tortillas crisped up on the griddle, the beef tender and well seasoned, and the rich consommé served on the side for dipping. The combination of the savory meat, the crispy tortilla, and the deep, slightly smoky broth made each bite feel layered and complete. Other standouts include the adobada tacos, which had a good char and a subtle spice that built gradually, and the lengua torta, with tender tongue layered between a soft roll and topped with fresh ingredients. The pozole was hearty and comforting, with a broth that carried the flavor of the hominy and meat without being overly heavy. The tamales, chicken flautas, and well-seasoned rice and beans rounded out the menu, each arriving hot and freshly made. The pickled onions and house salsas added extra flavor, and the horchata was a popular choice to pair with the meal, its cinnamon sweetness cutting through the richness of the dishes. Service was friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant maintained a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere that keeps people coming back. Despite its modest size, the kitchen moved efficiently, making it a reliable option for both dine-in and takeout. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, ensuring that even when the small dining room filled up, the experience stayed smooth. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in the Boston area, Taquería Jalisco stands out for its consistently flavorful cooking, generous portions, and menu built around classic recipes rather than modern interpretations. It is the kind of place where the food speaks for itself, and the simplicity of the setting only adds to the sense that you are eating something made with care and tradition.

I had been craving fish tacos for a really long time, and I was delighted to find a whole section of the menu dedicated to them. We started off with margaritas - one of the best companions to fish tacos - and I ordered mine spicy with jalapeño. For food, we shared the lobster empanadas and chorizo and potato taquitos. I ordered the tempura fish tacos for myself. Our margaritas were brought out shortly - mine was refreshing but lacked the kick from the jalapeño that I was hoping for (there was only one thin slice of pepper). Our food was brought out shortly, and I found it a bit overwhelming when our appetizers and tacos came out together. I started with my tacos, and these were excellent. The fish was flaky and fried to perfection, and I loved the rainbow of sauces and toppings. Plus, the tortillas were nice and sturdy and didn't tear. The lobster empanadas were super decadent, and I appreciated the substantial amount of lobster stuffed inside. I was too full to eat much of the taquitos but took a few bites. These also had good flavor but weren't standouts. Next time, I'd just get the tacos and maybe a light app. Towards the end of our visit, the restaurant seemed to clear out, and we had a difficult time trying to locate our server for the bill. Overall, we had a nice meal and satisfied the fish taco craving.

For food, we started off with chips and guac. This guac was some of the best I've had. It was super fresh and you could tell exactly what ingredients they used. We also their pork ribs! The ribs fell off the bone and I loved the warm sauce except it was a tiny bit dry. The sauce was reminiscent of an umami bbq sauce. We decided to try their zucchini dish, as recommended by the manager! I don't love zucchini usually but I liked it. It was roasted with cheese, sauces, and some shrimp. Very creative, Lastly we got the tuna ceviche of the day. I didn't really like this because it was really heavy on the dill. I think it would've been good without it. However the presentation was gorgeous and it came with plantains. Overall the vibes are superb here for a date, girls night, or whatever!!

The restaurant is actually located in the public alley, not directly on Gloucester Street. The food was really good. I am obsessed with their rice and beans. Everyone seemed to love what they ordered! However, Im taking away two stars because of our service and our waitress. When we sat down, she casually asked, "Can I get you started with chips and guac?" At pretty much every Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, that phrasing implies it is complimentary. At no point did she mention that the guac was an added charge. We later found out we were charged $16 per guac, yes because she brought over TWO (!!) which totaled over $30, which felt really misleading. If something is meant to be an appetizer you are paying for, I expect it to be framed as, "Would you like to order any appetizers?" not presented as a default and free starter. That part left a sour taste in my mouth. I would consider coming back for the food, but I would be much more cautious ordering anything they recommend.
