I stopped by Casa Toro, which is a fun Tex-Mex bar and restaurant. First, a disclaimer: this place is not an authentic Mexican cantina; despite the name, the servers and cooks are Americans and you'll find dishes like calamari and burgers. Nevertheless, I went for a lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The chips and pico de gallo were quite poor: the chips were stale and oily and the salsa was bland. For my main course, I tried the mole chicken enchiladas. They were tasty: the mole was fresh and flavorful, and the rice and beans were tasty and well executed. The portion was small, but I did order off the lunch menu. Service was friendly and they offer great beer specials and this is basically a local Chili's, but with slightly better food and service. read more

Ordered take out for the first time and the food was delicious! I ordered the steak fajitas and jalapeño appetizer dish. The fajitas came with all the side dishes which were great portions and super filling. The beans and rice are delicious. The appetizer was great. I would definitely order again. The place has a large room, is beautifully decorated and looks modern. There is a bar on one side and tables and booths on the other separated by a wall decorated with bull fighting related pictures. We were excited to hear about a new latin restaurant in our neighborhood. At first we thought it was a Cuban place based on what we read about the owners, but it turned out to be primarily Mexican with some Cuban dishes. We went there for lunch a few days ago expecting to find something Cuban on the menu, but the lunch menu was strictly Mexican, so I asked the waitress about it and she brought out a different menu. We both ordered Lechón Asado, one with fried yuca and the other with fried green plaintains (tostones), both come with rice and red or black beans. At first the food tasted good, we were hungry and had been anticipating the food at El Toro. But once we dug into the meal we noticed that the tostones were definitely not fresh. They tasted like the frozen Goya variety you can buy at a supermarket. The rice was OK, but you could tell it was made in a rice cooker and not the traditional way, in an iron pot. While the pork and beans were OK, the dish lacked authenticity. At $19 per serving this was not a good deal. Not sure we would return, even to try their version of Mexican food. read more

Last night was our first time at Casa Toro. Food and drinks were great. To top it off we were very impressed by the attentive staff- the bartender, Justin, was excellent. We had two Perfect Patron margaritas which were delicious. Nachos were tasty & the fajitas were a very large portion. Only thing that prevented this from being a 5 star review is the guacamole- it wasn't terrible, but unfortunately didn't taste authentic nor did it have a lot of flavor. This place is truly disgusting in every form of the word; from the complimentary salsa comprised of an amalgamation of rotten vegetables to the pungent off-colored sour cream slop trough I was served. Nothing these jesters put on my table was edible. I feared that I was going to have to take a trip to the emergency room after the three bites of pigswill I was forced to ingest, all while the four stocky acne ridden servers watched in comical intrigue mocking my inability to eat the microwaved leftovers they brought me. I placed an order at 1:42pm requesting a 5:15pm Delivery and the food wasn't ready when my dasher was there at 5:16pm. I called them at 5:35pm and the girl who answered was extremely unhelpful. I went here for dinner last night with a friend and we sat at the bar. Our bartender, Mike, who apparently only works Wednesday nights, was fantastic. I ordered a prickly pear margarita and couldn't decide on a sugar or salt rim so he did one on each side of the glass - GENIUS! The food was hot, we always had a cocktail when we needed it, and Mike has a great personality. We tried to give this another try and it has actually gone downhill from before. The mole looks like it was made with Perdue chicken tenderloins, the vegetables had no flavor and the beans were average. Also the veggies had meat chunks in it, which they should warn you about if you're vegetarian and expecting to get actual veggies. read more

me and girlfriend have been looking at this restaurant for a while now every time we drive by to get some good Mexican food. We never really go out much, prefer staying in and just relaxing and cooking. Wish we did that tonight. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi fish tacos. To my surprise I was given a slab of fish, on top of what looked like a tortilla chip. That's literally it. For 20$ I feel like I was robbed not only of a good night, but of a good meal. My girlfriend got the chicken wings as the menu seemed like a book. So many options. Chicken wings seemed safe. Out of the dozen she ate 3. Dry and difficult to eat. For 50$ we had one of the worst meals in a long time. And I'm not one to come on here and bash people for their cooking and food, but I felt something needed to be said. read more

Passing through Bucks County. Stopped here for some food and it was more or less OK but you have to be a mind reader. Why ? Well the Signature Margarita was featured as a HAPPY HOUR drink, so I ordered one, why not I asked myself. When bill came it was FULL PRICE. Well I thought it was a simple mistake and informed waitress. She lectured me that to get the HAPPY HOUR price I had to e sitting in bar. WOW ! Im no mind reader but do know deception when I am the recipient. And to lecture me and not apologize, man oh man, what a downer. Went for lunch with my husband. The service was not good. The guacamole and tortilla soup was ok. The rice that came with the entrees was good. However the steak fajitas and the beef chimichanga were bad. I'm from Texas and grew up with Mexican food and when you serve fajitas they should be on a sizzling hot plate. The steak had zero flavor and the chimichanga had hardly any beef in it and was filled with veggies. Also they were out of there medium sauce which I find strange and their mild red sauce tasted like a marinara. And for what the food prices are it should be a lot better. I'll maybe go back for a margarita or try their Cuban food but will not for Mexican food. I'm truly disappointed as I was hoping it was be great. read more

Wow, what a great surprise. You walk in to a well designed space. Gorgeous foyer, met by a genuine hostess who is glad to seat you. Over her shoulder was a large bar that looked spacious and lively on a Monday. We were shown to a nice booth and ware immediately greeted by a friendly professional server named Shawn. He steered us through the drink menu and had a colleague bring us amazing pico de gallo w homemade chips. I had a trio of enchiladas, beef, chicken and cheese in the best green sauce in the area. Outrageous. One friend had a burrito rice bowl that had great flavor. The one surprise we had was a completely succulent Cuban pork sandwich... staggeringly good. First night opening of this restaurant opening. As you would guess they were having the normal kinks of a new restaurant. We sat at the bar after putting our name on the list for a table. The bar was understaffed and lack of experienced bartenders. The one thing that stood out was the lack of management on hand to address the issues of 1+ hours wait on food. The servers were hiding from their tables as to not apologize frequently for the inefficiencies of the kitchen. The other thing was the hostesses consist seating of tables when there was an apparent long wait of food. The food came out and was quite good even after the long 2 hour wait. Paella was tasty but a pit on the peppery side and the ropa vieja was delicious. I would recommend this place but wait until a month or so. read more

I'm from Mexico City and went to culinary school as well, so I Should know a bit about this; Its not Mexican, it's Tex~Mex. not good Tex~Mex either. We tried really hard to like this place but here's the simple breakdown Decor- clean and spacious, great Service- we can around 8:45 PM on a Saturday night, it was fairly empty service was normal. Our waiter was very attentive Menu- wide variety of choices BUT confusing ... because they have a little paragraph story about how the owners are Cuban and would like the customers to experience Cuban cousine yet the majority of food selections are Mexican.... and than Burgers ..... and the very last page of menu are the Cuban items ..... which we didn't even realize until after we ordered the food Food - the most important part. We had grilled chicken fajita and chicken fajita salad. It's edible ..... and that's all I'm going to say ... Came to this place for a nice dinner on a Saturday night. Started off with the chips and salsa, the chips are much thicker than usual tortilla chips, and given the humidity of the day were a little stale. But The pico to Gallo was great. For dinner we ordered the burrito bowl with pulled pork that was fantastic. My husband ordered the chicken tacos. The taco shells like the chips were very thick and it had a bit of a lime taste to it that he did not like. Our waitress, Jess, was wonderful and was able to change the order to another burrito bowl. What a fun place in Doylestown! Came in on a rainy tuesday night and the place was busy- good sign! We waited about 10 minutes for a table before being seated at a booth. Our server was very nice and explained that everything is made fresh and to order so while our entrees might take a bit longer, it would be worth it. I thought it was nice for them to explain and I was happy to sit and snack on the chips and pico while enjoying a margarita. The chips and pico are good- I much prefer the freshness of the pico to something that tastes like it came in a jar. And the chips are thick and crunchy to hold up to the pico. The margaritas are FANTASTIC. I got a skinny margarita and it was delicious and strong- tangy and not sugary. My friend liked their beer selection- good draft and bottle assortment. Our order did take a little longer than usual- maybe half an hour- but it wasnt bad with the chips and drinks to hold us over. Our server checked on us frequently. When we got our food we decided it was definitely worth the wait. My friend got the tampiquena and loved it. I had the tostada which was spicy and fresh and delicious! Kinda like a chicken taco salad pizza thing- hard to describe but really REALLY good- i ate the whole thing. All in all- we are so happy to have found this place and will definitely come back when we visit Doylestown. Im really excited to try their cuban dishes! read more

I tried to dine twice at this place with no luck. On the first occasion, I arrived at 7pm and was told they close at 8pm and are no longer seating people. I tried again last night and was told we couldn't sit outside since there was a chance of rain. Needless to say, they aren't accommodating. I came here last night with girlfriends to catch up on life. We had the coco margarita which was tasty at $10 a piece. The chips and salsa were ok, appetizer plates would have been appreciated. I ordered the sizzling steak fajita and really enjoyed it. My friends enjoyed the mahi mahi tacos and sizzling chicken & steak fajita as well. Maybe a tad bit pricey as our total was $90 pre-tip. I did enjoy the decor, neutral color palette and high open ceiling. Server was friendly especially since spent about 3 hours there or longer.
