The food was amazing! My wife had the Al Pastor queso jefe, and it was both humongous and delicious. I got the queso birria, and the flavors were spot on. The cheese pull on it was great! My son's burrito was also huge and did delicious. We got the dulce de leche churro and tres leches cake, and both were amazing. Called in an order but when I brought it home it was wrong. Called back and they said that after I called, the chef let them know they could not make a torta but would put it all into a burrito. So, once they knew my order would be wrong they felt they did not need to call me back or let me know when I walked in. When I called about the order being wrong they did not offer to charge back the amount for the torta or even offer something else off the menu. Finally, I asked for chipotle on the torta but for some reason they still put pickled jalapeños on it....and instead of a chopped chipotle pepper it is some kind of chipotle hot sauce. Went for takeout and frankly wasn't expecting over fried chicken taquitos ( rolled tacos made with corn tortillas) masquerading as flautas ( rolled tacos made with flour tortillas) complete with chicken jerky filling. They were basically burnt. And inedible. The chimichanga was supposed to be chicken and was made of pot roast beef. There was no spice that eluded the fact it was a Mexican dish. I live in San Diego and there's no way anyone would pay $24 for these things and wait 35 minutes for the privilege to do so. The gauc was okay but no jalapeños in there! They could actually be good if they checked the temp of the oil and freshness of ingredients, added some cilantro and some jalapeño too. Plus paid attention to what was actually ordered, too! Not as authentic as I was excited for it to be. The Bistec a la Mexicana did not need that much sauce on top, it was too watery. As for the Tostadas with tinga, it was a let down. Maybe I'm not used to homemade crispy tortilla as the base since I always buy them and are perfect. It was supposed to be chicken with chipotle sauce but I tasted nothing of such. Simply watery chicken and a hint of chipotle. I like my tinga to be spicy and for the chipotle sauce to pop. The Gorditas with chorizo were too crunchy. Hopefully they improve in the future. We love the tacos, the chimichangas, the quesadillas, the enchiladas, and the flautas, but we have been going for years, so we like to try as many items as we can. The guacamole is also great, as well as their verde and roja sauce. My favorite sauce is their mole. It is a simple setting but most of the wait staff is great. Anika is our favorite when we come in on Friday nights. It's BYOB so the prices are right and it is a great place to meet friends. They have been one of our pandemic mainstays. Authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. Very spacious and comfortable dining rooms for families and large parties. Portions are large and well presented. The owners are on the premises and their staff is very friendly. My wife asked about a dish we once had in Mexico and they just made it for us even though it wasn't on the menu, that surely made our day. Repeat reviewer. We live close by so EM is a convenient, quick, inexpensive dinner out with decent food. And BYOB is always good. Something was amiss on our visit last week. Steak in the tacos was really grissley and chewy and not flavorful. Rice was cold. We've gone to EM like 20 times and it's going downhill a little bit. This visit was a bottom. Wait staff is too slow and not that friendly. Food took much longer than usual to come out. Carnitas tacos had shredded pork; I could swear it was marinated sliced pork before. Not flavorful. Pretty bland. Salsa is good but way too watery. I am almost sure it's just from a jar. Gotta thicken it up. And OK if you change nothing else, you have to serve the salsa in small bowls, not in little disposable plastic cups. The chips don't even fit in the teeny little cups. And with the watery salsa, forget it. Make good salsa, get red salsa as an option and get real salsa bowls! read more

Great traditional food. Recently went to Mexico and this is much closer to the food there than other "Mexican" places in the area. Normally split a couple dishes, which is usually a seafood dish and a meat dish. The dishes are spicy, but not over the top. I'm sure they'll adjust to your preference if you ask. Staff is really friendly and will make you laugh especially if you ask a dumb question. Only complaint is that some dishes on menu aren't available since they want to keep things fresh and don't care some ingredients that aren't ordered often. Still everything that was available that we tried has been good. No bar, but BYOB is welcome. PA liquor store is down the street in the Plumsteadville shopping plaza and area taverns on 611 have take out beer. read more

In a land of chains, blandness and mediocrity that sums up too much of the food that is served in the greater Doylestown area, there lies a gem of a little restaurant... El Mariachi. For me I treat it like a Mexican taquiera.. I almost always order the mexican tacos (corn tortillas warmed on the stove with meat onion and cilantro... ) and perhaps a tamale on the weekend. They have more than the carne asada and the tinga to fill your taco as well.. chorizo, lengua and sometime barbacoa can be your filling. Top them with a little salsa verde and it is heaven. The restaurant is byo.. but they do serve Mexican coke and a full line of the Jarritos sodas. They lose one star for not having horchata. I would probably stay away from some of the higher priced dishes on the menu.. not a place to go for ceviche or a huachinango.. but don't walk.. run to El Mariachi for some authentic flavor. read more

You will not leave hungry if you order this I've eaten something different every time I've been (going on 7 or 8 times now) Whether it was Tacos (some of the best I've ever had), pollo mi pueblito, fajitas or burritos, the food is phneominal. Note... I love food. This is not a "this restaurant is, like, way better than taco bell" review. It is authentic Mexican food, that's on par with (or even surpasses) El Vez in philly and is way better than pocos or other mexican fare in the area. Great easy going local mexican joint. Has a very authentic feel and some great meat options. The lengua and salt cured beef is fantastic. For those that have never had lengua it tastes just like pot roast. The carnitas were fatty and gristly and should be skipped. Enchiladas and tacos are great. Gorditas are heavy and look small but are quite filling. Chicken tamale was dry and needed a sauce on top. Guacomole is okay and the chile verde salsa that they serve with the chips is addictive. They have a spicy red chipotle hot sauce that is made from scratch and is quite tasty. The rice is pretty good and the beans are ok. Prices were very low and reasonable in comparison to the other mexican restaurants in the area. If you're on the fence about going just go and remember that it's BYOB. read more

This is your Hispanic food restaurant of the area. Good place to eat if you are interested in good food and amazing salsa. They will always give you more salsa if you ask for it. They work with a promotional group called "belly", which prompted me to give someone there a high five. Apparently enough high fives will earn me a free appetizer or something similar. Great for takeout. Great for kids. Byob but the price is right the kind of food you are served. The esthetic is cool considering its location in a strip mall between a post office and a hair dresser. I thought I was never going to find good Mexican food in Bucks County, but I finally did. We have been back twice and are going again tonight. The food is excellent slightly Americanized (but not overly so) Mexican food. I had an aunt that owned and cooked for a Mexican restaurant, and have lived in California for a long time and Austin for not long enough. I know my south of the border food and El Mariachi has it all figured out. It was a special treat to find Chiles Rellenos. Now I have to remember to ask them if they ever do tamales... :) Update: Yes, they have tamales, all the time, and they are excellent. I upgraded my rating from a 4 to a 5 accordingly. :) read more

Good, authentic Mexican food at very good prices. Whoever said that the food arrived cold obviously never saw/smelled the sizzling fajitas being delivered to the tables, or dug into the steaming enchiladas verde. The have lots of good specials, especially on weekends. The staff is normally very attentive, although we went once when they were obviously short-handed and waited a bit. BYOB makes it a very reasonably-priced meal. The menu is pretty broad, and includes some vegetarian and non-mex stuff for kids and those who are not mex fans. I have to agree that the place is not much to look inside. The could really do a lot with it by adding some better lighting and maybe some privacy dividers between parts of the seating area- and I would find a way to get rid of the parking lot view. But as someone else mentioned, you don't come to Mariachi for the ambiance- you come for a good, casual, BYOB mex meal. And if you come on a night when the (authentic) singing Mariachi is making rounds at the tables, you may forget all about the decor. We recommend El Mariachi as a good value in casual, local, BYOB dinner dining- and you can get take-out too! read more
