My favorite delivery pizza place, perfect for my apartment right over the bridge in Long Island City! It's NYC, and there should be good pizza nearby. Alas, in Long Island City, there isn't. But, right over the bridge into Greenpoint, we have Casanova's. And Casanova has the amazing, the delicious, the huge Grandma's Pie. I've never gotten anything else from them other than the Grandma's Pie, but it is delicioso. Yummy. Tasty. Very good. We also get the garlic knots too, because we love the garlic knots. Whoever is making them has widely variable styles, but in general they are good and cheap and filling. Just sometimes without enough garlic. Delivery to Jackson and 50th in LIC is about 45min-1hour, which isn't bad in my book. And with very good food and reasonable prices, that's a 4-star winner for me. I have a love/hate relationship with Casanova. I just moved here 3 months ago and it's so close to my apartment. The dining room is so cheesy - definitely hasn't been updated since the late 80s. HOWEVER, the food is solid. The chicken parmigiana is amazing, the sauce is the best part. Portions are huge. The chicken roll or sausage and pepper rolls are good, but not made fresh, which is a deterrant. We asked if they were sitting out and the guy said yes but he made us one fresh anyways which was nice. I once got the calamari and it had a funky taste to it; not very fresh. The pizza is pretty good. The one major downfall is that the service is not friendly. Everytime I go there, they act like it bothers them to take your order. They are not personable. However, one of the waiters are really. Overall, I would recommend this for a lunch or inexpensive dinner. The food will not disappoint you and this place has been around for so long for a reason. read more

The Grandma pie is very good as others noted-- the third star is for that. The regular pies are kind of greasy and cheesy. Sauce and crust don't stand out. We order pizza from time to time, nevertheless. The pasta, chicken and salad dishes are overpriced in my opinion and not the best quality. If you want sort-of-greasy, sort-of-bland red sauce experience, you will be fine. You won't get sick, and they're nice people, which is more than you can say of a lot of joints! Had a bad lunch here. Bummed out. Wanted to like the place...I work in the area and it's the nearest restaurant. Thought it would be the red sauce craving place. Anyway, had an over-fried veal milanese hero with broccoli rabe. Just one small, ultra-thin, over-fried cutlet. No garlic. No cheese. No salt. No pepper. Had a delivery order, which was prompt and well packaged. that was the only good part. While i remember their pizza being decent, their pasta dishes are simply gross. I dont think anything is actually "made" there. it tastes like ragu, frozen ravioli, and microwaved reheated meats. The ravioli i ordered were literally stuck together as they were literally frozen and defrosted. gross. My finaces vodka sauce was ragu and cream with NO FLAVOR. gross. Delivery time within 30 minutes. Prices are very reasonable and the fact that they dont mind delivering over the bridge to Long Island City is an added plus for me. Since we had to walk from the 7 across the Pulaski bridge over to Greenpoint, we decided to stop by and finally try it. It's a homey place that feels authentic. My wife ordered the baked ziti and I ordered the Chicken Parm(stick with the basis first). Wow, both were awesome, fresh mozzarella on both, perfectly cooked pasta, and good quality chicken breast. Also, the bread was good and fresh. The menu had some good options so we'll definitely return. It was a little expensive for takeout but sorry Triangolo, this is now our favorite Italian place in Greenpoint. The service was a little slow, but the food more than made up for it. read more

Lately I've been ordering their pizzas and have been very surprised how good and satisfying they are. A big step above the pizza at Tiangelo but not as amazing as Paulie Gee's, a good happy medium. Delivery can be a bit on the long side if it's a busy night (and they will tell you if it's a busy night which is great), but the pizza has always arrived hot and in good condition. My mom had her 80th birthday here at Casanova, this was my first visit and I was not disappointed the service and food was really good. I had their chicken cacciatore which was very good and tasty. Nice to have parking available which is always hard to find in Brooklyn. read more

I have been coming here since I was a teen, and thats a long time! The food and service are wonderful. I especially like their Grandma pizza and I am pleased that they offer whole wheat pasta. I order that with broccoli, shrimp, oil and garlic. They are family owned and very friendly, they truly make you feel like you are number one! Their garlic knots are by far the best I ever had. They also have well made cocktails, as well as wine and beer. I also had deliveries from them a number of times, and it was quick and piping hot. Was searching everywhere for a place to eat around Brooklyn on a sunday night then came across this place and had to go in! Felt like an oasis. Was really comfortable and clean in there and the staff were all very nice and welcoming. Though they were pretty expensive for being, got an appetizer- mozzarella n tomato salad thing with prossuitto- scoffed it down in 2 mins between 2 people. The entrees were very fulfilling and flavorful... Got the chicken parm...i'd say it was slightly above average being from a random italian joint. I bet the other food would've been just as good. Went there for the first time in a while on Saturday night with my mother in law, her sister, my husband and kid. Been coming here for years but did not go for a while due to their closure for renovation. We had another slammin' meal. The food is delicious and plentiful, to say the least. All of us had leftovers to bring home (yum yum yum). I highly recommend the chicken parm, the calamari appetizer and the chicken francese. Also as alternative to the spaghetti side with red sauce, they will make it with oil and garlic if you ask - super-delicious! We had a huge meal, from soup to nuts and it was very reasonable. The service is good if a bit gruff but all in all it's a fantastic value for italian food lovers and you will have a really enjoyable lunch/dinner there. On a side note: Casanova is now on restaurant.com - you can buy a $25 voucher there to use at Casanova at a very reasonable price. I did and I used on on Saturday! Good slices, hard to classify. They're shaped like sicilian, but thin and crispy. They come with Parmesan already baked on, so they have this strong earthy flavor. At $2.50 a slice, well worth it, in my opinion. Haven't tried the non-pizza fare. read more

Best red sauce in Greenpoint if you like it a bit salty. i rate their regular slice lower than their competitor up the block on Manhattan Ave, but their menu is much deeper and satisfying. grandma slice is REALLY good and all their entrees are makin' me hungry just thinking about them. Lasagna, Penne/Vodka sauce, Parmagian dishes. Nice mozzarella sticks. They raised their prices after remodelling a few years ago, so it isnt exactly "cheap." Worth a visit or delivery order. I have never actually been to Casanova so I can not speak on its appearance. I have, however, ordered the "grandma style" pizza here multiple times. In fact, its the only thing I have had here and I can tell you, its the best pizza in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. (Fornino is excellent but doesn't deliver to my house.) The cheese tastes rich and of premium quality. The tomato sauce couldn't possibly come out of a can. I introduced my husband and he is hooked too! Had a horrible experience with this place on 5/8/2011. The menu's had different prices on it and they overcharged our bill. We told them to look at a few different menu's and realized the prices were all different. They then proceeded to fix the bill and then the waiter comes over and tries to make our bill a bit higher again. Trying to rip us off. Then we get to the counter to pay our bill and the guy gives my husband $5 change when he was suppose to get at $10 back. Also one of my family members ordered fried calamari and they brought out calamari marinara and did not want that plate so he ended up with no meal. We arrived at 6:30 and did not leave the restaurant until 9:00 pm. Ridiculously slow service. We made it known to the next table to make sure they do not take a ride for there money. Seems like Casanova's is the place to go for slices and sandwiches, but their entree dining experience was pretty horrendous. Before I get started with my rant, I want to give props to my waiter Segundo who handled the "fly issue" with grace, giving us a new table, apologizing profusely, and topping off my wine for free for the rest of the evening. But the fact that there was a fly issue is the reason for this post. There was a swarm of flies all over our food, like Segundo had never seen. Amazing food could have made up for this issue, but that wasn't the case. The sauce seemed to be inspired by chef boyardee and my shrimp scampi was unremarkable. Their Mussels marinara are simply the best I have had. We come here at least once a month, and my husband raves about the chicken parm. It's always cooked just right and the sauce is to die for. My friends and I like Casanova and go there sometimes. It is not fancy but just great for what it is. I really love the Broccoli Rabe and the Homemade Ravioli. The portions are great, there is a lovely woman server who works in the evening who makes us really feel at home. Since it is on such a busy road, you might not expect the straight ahead delicious Italian food, but it is set back a little and has a back dining room so you would never hear the traffic. I know what I will get at Casanova, and it will be good, any thing from pizza to a big pasta dish. read more

In preparation for Hurricane Sandy, we decided to order some pizza and other items to last us for a few days. We got our usual Casanova Special Pizza (hold the mushrooms) and it was delicious as usual. Even after the third day in the fridge. The garlic knots were tasty, but those don't keep as well and are best eating day of delivery. The sausage and peppers hero was nice and good for an extra day. Finally my favorite of the meal was the Cheese Calzone with Ham. I haven't had one of those since my college days and I forgot how tasty they were. The dough was perfectly cooked and the filling was super tasty with mozzarella, ricotta and parmesan. It didn't come with marinara sauce unfortunately (if you want some, make sure you ask for it, but I think they charge extra), but I had some on hand and it went perfectly with the calzone. I will definitely add the calzone for all our future orders and highly recommend it if you are a fan of cheese and bread! Yum! read more
