Casavana was a really good introduction to Cuban food for me. Somewhere along my travels from Las Vegas to the Miami area, I got really sick. I was hoping to track down some chicken vegetable soup and my Airbnb host recommended this restaurant. Apparently, my daughter, who has been staying in Florida for the past two months, has eaten here at Casavana. We started with the Yucca fritas, they reminded me of and tasted similar to mozzarella sticks. I really liked the texture of these, they had a nice crunch and the dipping sauce was flavorful. For our main dishes, I had the chicken noodle soup while my daughter ordered the Churrasco platter. Both were delicious, the soup was hearty and flavorful with nice big chunks of chicken and noodles. The Churrasco was a strip of tender, juicy red meat with black beans, rice, plantains and a side of chimichurri sauce. If I'm ever back in the area, I would absolutely stop in and enjoy another meal. read more

We ordered food from them and my steak came raw and had a really weird taste and texture to it. I tasted another piece and showed it to several of my family and friends and we were are convinced the meat was bad. We called the restaurant and told them and they said bring it back and they would give us another or a credit. We went and brought it back to show them and they would not give us a refund and only wanted to give us another one. I told her I don't feel good from the few bites I had of the first one why would I want another one. They refused to credit me back and insisted I just take another steak. Every single time I go here it's always a disappointment. Never fails. It had been a while and I passed by for a simple pan con bistec because how bad can you mess that up and I figured maybe it's gotten better. I was wrong. The worst steak sandwich not only was it tasteless it was literally the thinnest steak with thrown tomato and a dry bed no sauces no seasoning. Expensive empty sandwich. We started with -spinach empanada- very good but wish it was fried instead of baked. came with a delicious garlic cilantro dip -guava and cheese tequeño- very delicious inside! Our mains were -Masas de puerco- a little bit too lean of a cut (my friend prefers fattier meats). Rice was seasoned very well. We wish their were a few more maduros, very small portion -cuban wrap- get this!!! so delicious. i got mine with grilled chicken. the wrap is warm and cheese perfectly melted. The sweet plantains inside complemented the savory pulled chicken. also has fresh lettuce tomato and grilled onions. would recommend asking for an extra side of their garlic cilantro sauce. We came here for a late breakfast. We arrived around 12pm and saw a sign in the waiting area saying there's a $1.50 charge for breakfast after 11am. No problem, we're ok with that. When the lady at the front comes she says oh I don't know if they told you but we're not doing breakfast. We go to the table and look at the menu, menu has a disclaimer same as lobby. $1.50 surcharge for breakfast so when the waiter comes I'm like hey by the way I know you guys charge $1.50 and we're ok with that but is it true we can't order breakfast? He says it's true. I asked why and just got a blank stare. I don't know if they do that to get a bigger ticket a which means bigger tips but jokes on them we wound up ordering toast, coffee and empanadas. This place is going down. Looking for breakfast on Christmas Day was a mission until we found Casavana. We had simple requests- coffee- very large coffee, breakfast sandwiches and tostadas with EXTRA butter. They missed the mark on the extra butter and there wasn't even enough regular butter to cover the whole bread. The coffee was delicious and the breakfast sandwich was great. Today I ordered the grilled chicken with moros and tostones to go, The order was ready within 15 minutes. I took it home and when I was about to eat, I noticed the chicken had a strange smell to it. They had covered it with lots of onion and cilantro, I guess to mask the smell. Still, I thought it could be my imagination so I took a bite of it, but it tasted sour , and it was cold. The tostones were hard and dry, like they had been fried a long time ago. I repacked the food, and took it back to the restaurant. I spoke to the manager and explained to her how terrible the food was. Although she offered to return my money, I declined and just walked away. I will never go back. Meat was great, tender, juicy and great flavor. Rice was good. Beans has a good flavor not excellent if you compare with other Cuban beans that have a more tasty flavor but still good. Came down to Homestead to set up base camp while I explored the local National Parks. My first full day there, I was like, I need to get some Cuban food. So I did some research, and the best bang for my buck seemed to be Casavana. I came in, got a seat, and looked at their delicious menu. We ordered a bunch of different things and just went to town. Started off with an Empanada (Cuban turnover filled with ham & Swiss cheese, beef, chicken or spinach). We chose beef, and this was A+. Crispy, flakey crust. Flavorful beef within. So good. Love a larger empanada that has a lot of filling to it. Then I got the Combo Criollo (4 ham croquettes, one cuban tamal and mariquitas). These croquettes were oh so ooey gooey and very crispy on the outside, not too oily. The tamal was very soft and not dry at all, a subtle flavor throughout paired with the bite of that onion, very good. And then the mariquitas were fun, always fun. Crispy. Save them to eat with every other aspect of your meal. Then a couple of main entrees. The Vaca Frita (A flavorful shredded flank steak grilled to perfection, topped with sauteed onions). Sides of Sweet plaintains, "maduros," and black beans and rice, "moros." Flavorful is right. Shredding is the best way to prepare flank steak. All the flavor, none of the toughness. And then sauteed onions make everything better. The moros were moist and flavorful. Was a nice dip for my mariquitas to scoop up. And then of course, gotta love the maduros. Like a nice dessert already on your plate. Then of course I had to have the classic Cubano Regular (Ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and a touch of mustard on cuban bread, served with mariquitas). Side of French fries. I mean, this was great. This is a pretty standard sandwich, so it's hard to differentiate one from other, but one day to do it is to Stuff your sandwich with so much meat that it's actually impressive. Lots of stuff in this sandwich, and I really appreciate it. Thank you, Casavana. I finished off the meal with a nice Tres-Leches (Sweetened condensed, cream and whole milk poured over rich sponge cake). My favorite cake! Both criteria for a good tres leches were met here, the sponge was saturated thoroughly, and the sponge did not deteriorate before I ate it. Very good. read more

The food also appeared old, as if it had been sitting out for some time. I called to report the issue, and the person I spoke with assured me the order would be remade. A lovely spot for breakfast in Oasis Plaza off Campbell Drive. The corner take out cubby has a bit of shade while you wait for your order. To the left is the indoor seating restaurant that opens at 8 am for breakfast and closes after dinner at 10pm. My friend who joined for this early morning breakfast on August 30th, was disappointed with his regular Cubano sandwich (ham, pork, cheese, pickles with a dash of mustard on Cuban bread). He mentioned the meat did not taste good. He ended up taking two bites and giving up. May be this was a one off. As he did not finish the sandwich, ended up giving him half of what I ordered. That being said, my breakfast sandwich, scrambled eggs with ham omelette style was fantastic, textured, and spicy. The Cubano coffee really woke me up as I managed to sleep under 4 hours the previous night. Was worth it for $23, two breakfast sandwiches, fresh juice and Cuban coffee. Had dinner here on 12/10/2021 and it was delicious! We had mariquitas with mojito sauce that was a 10/10. (Unfortunately I had a gluten response because I'm sure these are fried in shared oil.) My palomilla steak was so big it was hanging off the plate and it was delicious. Despite all of the poor reviews we decided to give this place a try since it was across the street from our hotel and we could walk there. We were seated immediately in the bright and nicely decorated room. I guessed this place was part of a local chain given the look and feel of th menu. The server was a bit slow getting to us but not too bad. It was not apparent from the menu if they served beer but they did so I started with an El Presidente. My wife ordered the classic Cubano sandwich which she liked a lot (she especially like the plantain chips with the side sauce). I got the variation of this sandwich on an egg roll that was solid. Stopped by the Casavana Homestead location on a Saturday at lunch time and was sat right away. The restaurant has plenty of occupied tables. The hostess was not friendly or welcoming, which is strange for a Cuban restaurant, then she got my mother and I to a bo and without a word turned around and left. Service from the waitress was not anymore welcoming but after getting our order in the food came out promptly. We came from a quick bite so I appreciated the speed. We ordered an order of vaca frita tostones, sopa de malanga, steak sandwich add fries and also tried a strawberry shake. No complaints-- everything was fresh and delicious. I will be back soon to try their entrees as they are a great option when cravings Cuban food in the Homestead area. Their service could use a few tweaks but the food made up for it. read more

We stopped here when we stayed overnight in Homestead. The food was mediocre at best. All of us had the Churrasco. The Chimichurri sauce was - ew - for lack of a better word. My Dad went to the bathrooms, which were out of soap. An employee was in there and left without washing his hands. He didn't use the hand sanitizer in the hall either - that was out as well. When they brought the olive oil and vinegar for my side salad, the containers were so disgusting with spiked product on them, I didn't want to touch them. The side salad was a good size and all the vegetables looked fresh. It was a decent salad. The black beans were lacking flavor. I wouldn't be excited to go back. Had one more day to spend with my parents before they left back to Puerto Rico, and they were staying in front of Casavana, so we made a choice to go there with my brother as well. We didn't have a reservation and we were a big party, and it didn't take us that long to get seated (5 adults and 4 kids in about 10 or so minutes), even though the restaurant was busy. We were tended by two servers in combination and our orders were taken pretty fast. Our kids were given paper menus with crayons to keep busy, which was appreciated. For starters, we ordered some ham croquetas, an order of buñuelos, and an order of beef topped tostones. The croquetas were okay; not too salty and they were big enough, but I didn't get much of the ham flavor. The stuffed tostones were probably my favorite thing in the whole restaurant, with enough beef and toppings to possibly fill me up. The buñuelos were decent for me, but my family was obsessed with them. A little bit later, we settle on the main dishes: two Palomilla steaks, two beef empanizados, one picadillo, and the kids shared a Palomilla steak and a Cheese Quesadilla. The palomillas were nice and tender, but didn't taste like anything special. Same goes for the beef empanizados - they were huge in size, but mostly bland in flavor. The picadillo was one of the more flavorful dishes, but nothing exceptional. Massive portions, okay taste and good service. I would return, but not a standout. read more
