I know people love this place for the sours but I just don't get the hype. I am someone who loves sours and came with a friend who does too. We both ordered three tiny glasses of three different sours. We both did not enjoy any of them. They were drinkable but not enjoyable. We found ourselves chugging them to get past the taste. There was only one person working which I get can be tough but the tables and entire place were filthy. It was unacceptably dirty or I would've given them 3 stars. I guess they must allow people to being outside food. It's hard to enjoy a beer with trash everywhere. read more

This is our 3nd beer pilgrimage, the first one being Hillfarmstead and the 2nd being Brussels. This place is certainly out of the way and difficult to find. It's located on the lower level of a building and below street level. It's right below Bonfire Coffee so if you see that store, park there. You'll miss it if you're looking for an obvious sign. They may have some small plastic signs in front of some dirt parking spots you might be able to look out for. If the parking spots are taken, you're screwed. Do your research, check out the pictures on yelp. We were scheduled for a 2pm tour ($20 per person). We got here at 1:20 or so and went inside to see what the process was for check in. A guy told us that they were closed and to come back at 2pm. We were dropped off so we had nowhere else to go. There certainly were no businesses around to visit. We decided to just sit outside on the patio where they had some chairs and tables and enjoy the view. The view is certainly beautiful. The brewery overlooks a river and walking path. There's a bridge if you walk a little bit north of the brewery that may get you to the walking path. I would consider this a boutique brewery, catering to those special craft beer nerds who love their sours. I imagine only locals come by and those who care enough about good sours to make the 3hr+ drive from Denver. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. There was a shower in there so I'm guessing the brewers spend a lot of time in the warehouse. Our guide, John, was very entertaining and loud. There was no issue hearing him as he guided us through the history of the brewery and the brewing process. There were probably 30-40 people who came for the tour. The portions were good and of course, the beer was too. The main reason we came was for the bottled beer. Casey doesn't distribute to liquor stores (as far as I'm aware & at the time we went in late 2018) and so the only way to get their stuff is to go to the brewery directly. I visited Casey for the first time today on a trip out from Denver by way of Austin. I'm a huge beer fan so this was a must for me. The drive alone makes it worth it, cutting through Vail and Glenwood Canyon this is one of the most scenic and beautiful drives in the country. The end prize is just icing on the cake. The tour is a quick 2 hour jaunt but it's worth every bit of the trip. John is your enthusiastic and passionate tour guide and he will lead you through a brief history of Casey complete with taster pours (around 8oz) of three of their current offerings. After the tour, you'll have the opportunity to purchase additional pours on anything they have on tap or purchase some of their cellared offerings. Casey makes some of the most beautiful lambic inspired, wild ales in the country and the setting matches is hand and foot. Don't get me wrong. This brewery is out of the way- in an over the mountain through the woods type of way. But those who appreciate this style of beer and the work that goes into it will have no issue having a great time. read more

Casey Brewing and Blending is one of the top 5 brewers/blenders in the country. With over 4000 breweries in the US - that statement is saying something. If fruited sours are your thing, it doesn't get much better than a Casey beer. All the fruit used is sourced from CO and then carefully blended into the already delicious base beers. Releases are usually the first Saturday of the month (it goes against my better judgement to divulge this info because I want all the beer for myself). If you have a ticket, you can buy some beers to go. If not, all the bottles are available to sample at the beer releases. The bottles range in price from $16-$30 for 750ml bottle. It can seem pricey to some, but you pay for quality. A lot of time and money go into a Casey beer. I pay these prices with a big smile on my face. Go check this place out if you're a beer enthusiast. I've been hearing about Casey Brewing for months and finally got to go. Simply put; it's worth the hype. I live in Salt Lake and drove 5.5 hours; early in the morning for the 11am tasting and tour. By the time I arrived, I was ready for a beer. Luckily, before the tour starts, they kick off with a pour! After pulling the cork out, and exclaiming "Opa!", I got to sample what I've been hearing about for months. It was their Apricot Sour and it was fantastic! The easiest comparison I can give is this: Imagine a perfect sour beer; with its crisp mouth feel and tart sour flavor. Now, imagine taking a bite of a fantastic apricot. That's what it's like to drink their beers. Quality abounds with fantastic flavors and aromas from their beers. The tour itself was nice. Their facilities are not large but our guide was passionate, knowledgeable and friendly. Despite the tour being completed in 30 minutes, I felt I got to know what Casey is all about and am glad I got to go. Once the tour is over, they encourage you to buy a bottle and share with other tour attendees; like an improve bottle share. My advice: do this, but agree with others to trade glasses. I've visited many breweries in Colorado and this is one of the best. The tour was informative and the host, John, was very personable and friendly. The tasting area has an inviting atmosphere. Sour beers are my least favorite, but I still enjoyed sampling them- especially the ones made with 4 pounds of fruit per gallon of beer. Even though I'm not a fan of sours, and am not a good judge of this style of beer, I still had a great time tasting beer and lots of fun mingling with others. read more

I had always wanted to visit Casey and try some of their amazing sours, when I found myself within a few hours of them I had to make the drive. I arrived a little early for the tour/tasting and was immediately greet by Chris who was welcoming and extremely informative throughout the visit. We got to try a few different beers and got a tour of the facilities. The real treat is the on site bottles available for purchase. Even thought I was alone I was still able to try many different brews since many people end up sharing pours of the bottles they purchase, I was sure to do the same when I bought a bottle. To top it off they always have a great list of bottles to go, I left with a case of Casey and some swag, looking forward to getting there again to try more beers. I love the idea of having small group tours/tastings opposed to lining up for releases. read more

It's love I tell ya'. I bought tickets to the tour a month in advance and dragged three non-craftbeer-geeks along as beer mules so that I could get as much of the highest rated beer as I wanted without being limited by a per-person allocation. What I didn't count on: ALL the beers are great. The base beers, The Farmstand, The Family Preserves, The Cut, they're all great. These are handcrafted beers, each and every one, and the profiles are sophisticated, deep, and quite wine-like. John was a great host and guide. Troy stopped in and made a point of talking to everyone. The tour was not terribly long, as this is a single room blending and barrel aging facility with a bar at the front, bottles still filled by hand in the back, and the cherries and peaches are pitted by hand. I took a mixed full case home with us. Great visit. Highly recommended. read more

One of the best, most renowned breweries in the state and maybe the country. They specialize in American wild ales and saisons inspired by Belgian style lambic. Really fruit forward and almost exclusively made with CO ingredients. No one else in Colorado makes beers like this that are as incredibly complex as most of Troy's offerings. Run by the Casey family which are incredibly nice and friendly folks. This brewery sits on the beautiful Roaring Fork river which is a perfect setting for a day of sharing beers on a Saturday with your friends. Please not they are open sporadically because of limited production. Usually open the first Saturday of each month. read more

He's making some of the best and most sought after beer in the country but you wouldn't know it by how they act and treat you like family. He's only open the first Saturday of the month and bottle sales are ticketed (online sales the week-ish before the event), but if you don't have tickets you can still buy pours at the bar. Whether its a fantastic base beer or one with fruit added. they are all fantastic drinking experiences. He walked us through a tasting of 3 of their beers, and then a number of the other participants and I shared a few more bottles. Superb beer and excellent company. I greatly appreciate that the brewery was child-friendly as advertised: there was a low seating area near the bar with some kid games. Most overrated beer I've ever had. I initially liked Casey when they charged less and the beer was tastier but found that as their popularity has grown so have their egos. The most recent and last trip I'll make to the brewery I tried a glass of their current fruit seasonal. For not very much more than a couple plops of liquid into a glass, the woman serving requested 12 dollars for maybe 6-7 oz. of beer from a bottle that had been sitting there open for a while. I about choked and asked, "12?" and she copped an inmediate attitude and with more sharpness in her voice replied, "yeah 12," like I had just insulted her. I got over the encounter and just hoped the beer was the promise land of deliciousness especially at 12/half a standard beer. I sipped a few times to find that it tasted kind of flat (probably because it had been sitting there open for a while) and mostly like sour cherry juice, like biting a pie cherry. The sourness was not from the craft and all from the fruit. It seemed very watered down, one-note and not a rich, flavorful drinking experince at all. I've never had a sadder experience having a beer. I felt gouged and disappointed, like they didnt even try and just were playing off their recent spike in trendiness. Not that I had enough to tell but I felt absolutely not alcohol effects and I'm small and hadnt eaten a lot that day before the beer, I can usually feel a beer pretty quickly but not this one. I think I just paid 12 dollars for some cherry juice. I'm a big fan of sours and if you want a fullfilling tasting experience, try a bottle of Crooked Stave, they know how to make a reasonably priced sour beer, crafted to be packed full of flavor, oh and some alcohol too. read more
