Unlike other reviewers I find the food quite good, and especially the desserts including the lava cake which is made with dark chocolate and isn't a sugary mess like most, and the espresso crème brûlée which was lovely. I have eaten here a few times and all staff is extremely pleasant. Ambiance is classic early 1900s so to each his own, I like it! My first trip to Glenwood Springs was a home run! This hotel is one of the oldest in town and has historical features, a beautiful entry, common space and the most wonderful kind staff! The staff at the front desk and the restaurant, the attendants everyone was so kind that it really made me a visitor for life! Each person went out of their way to assist or help in anyway possible and they just fill the place with good energy! The hotel is in the most convenient locations to multiple hot spring locations, one is even directly across the street. Our room was adorable a nice bath and I enjoyed the historical aspect of the hotel. The Christmas decorations were already up and it looked magical! A truely wonderful place to visit and I look forward to going back in the future! I definitely recommend eating at the hotel restaurant as that is where we enjoyed all of our delicious meals while in town. Evan went through the menu with us and we found out it is seasonal, which is something I love! Everything was fresh and we felt spoiled and pampered! There is a full bar with wine and beer. To start I will say it was a nice sitting area but that's where the positives end. To start the service was slow. We ordered a filet migon and winter salad with chicken. I asked for medium rare, and when it arrived it was charred and medium well. It was very bitter and almost inedible. The salad was soggy and the chicken was dry. For these two items it took over and hour and a half to finish, with it taking upwards of 40m just for our food to arrive. Overpriced and underwhelming. read more

Some inedible. No music, no ambiance when we were seated. Nothing special about the menu or deserts. Horrible desserts pies, apple, pecan and two different pumpkin. All the pies had really old whip cream on them. No chocolate anything. They were Understaffed and under trained wait staff. They cleared our table when went up for desserts. Quick stay at the historic Hotel Colorado and decided to come get some food at the hotel as we arrived at about 9PM. The bar was open until 10 so we hustled to check in and came right down for dinner. We ordered the house burger and the Cuban sandwich, both were done perfectly and my burger looked picturesque. The sandwiches were so delicious and the fries were perfection. Sara was our server/bartender and she was amazing. Really took care of us and provided amazing service even though they were closing in about 45 mins. We also ordered a beer and a shot and the pour was generous. The restaurant/bar was clean and well lit and we really had an amazing meal here, despite of being there at the end of the evening. Will def be back again. read more

We ate at Baron's in the Hotel Colorado for dinner and breakfast. The food was above average- roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon were great, salad fresh but slightly overdressed, breakfast Denver omelette and BLAT eggs Benedict were pretty good, cheesy hash brown potatoes (with added Cholula!) -yum. Ambience has an old fashioned vibe. The highlight of our dining experiences, and reason for the 5 stars, were the amazing servers. Having spent the previous night at the also historic Boulderado in Boulder (of course) and having an extremely disappointing experience with the waitstaff at Spruce, the experience at Baron's was a refreshing contrast. Jon, our dinner server, was personable, friendly, and attentive. We had a lovely conversation. Manny, our breakfast server, also all of the above. The restaurant was fairly busy so it took a while for him to get to us, but he stopped by our table to be sure we had water and to let us know he'd be with us shortly. That is all it takes to elevate a dining experience even when service may be delayed. In contrast to Spruce at the Boulderado, who basically ignored us and couldn't be bothered. Granted, both servers at Baron's seemed to be seasoned professionals while those at Boulderado looked like students. Both of the servers we had at Baron's took just that little extra effort to ensure we had what we needed and to also spare a few words, and I have to point out a smile goes a long way. I chose Hotel Colorado specifically to celebrate my 40th birthday, expecting the hotel itself to be part of a meaningful milestone experience. Unfortunately, the stay was far more disappointing than enjoyable, and the negatives outweighed the positives by a wide margin. My biggest letdown was the complete lack of acknowledgment of my birthday, despite the hotel being informed multiple times by both email and phone. When I called ahead to request a mini refrigerator (which, oddly, now comes with a charge), I was explicitly told, "It's your 40th -- we'll make sure there's something special for you on arrival." There was nothing. No note. No gesture. No acknowledgment at all. The refrigerator wasn't even in the room when I checked in. I genuinely thought I must have been placed in the wrong room and called the front desk to confirm. They acknowledged the refrigerator request had been missed and brought one up -- but the birthday promise was completely ignored. For a hotel at this price point, that level of follow-through is unacceptable. Even beyond that, every interaction with staff felt like I was inconveniencing them just by asking basic questions or making simple requests. This was consistent across departments, not a one-off experience. The only exception was one bartender who was genuinely pleasant -- unfortunately by that point I was so turned off by the overall experience that I ordered my final meal to-go just so I could eat and pack in peace. Another major issue was the shuttle service, which was a key reason I booked this hotel. I requested the complimentary shuttle in advance for a Saturday appointment about 10 minutes away and was told to call in the morning -- they wouldn't note it on my room or reservation. When I tried calling in the morning, the number didn't work. I went downstairs only to be told the shuttle wasn't running at all that day, and no one had bothered to mention that previously. I ended up late to my appointment because the staff was clearly not on the same page. The hotel feels poorly managed and disorganized, which honestly may explain why the staff seemed disengaged. On top of that, I was overcharged repeatedly. Menu prices did not match the itemized charges on my bill -- food and drinks were consistently higher than what was listed. For a hotel already charging premium rates, this felt sloppy at best and misleading at worst. As for the room itself: * The bed and sheets were comfortable, and I slept well -- one of the few highlights. * The towels and robes were shockingly rough. I was excited to use the robe and couldn't even tolerate it. * The shower water pressure was almost nonexistent. I couldn't properly rinse soap out of my hair or off my body and ended up using showers at nearby spas and hot springs instead. * The hotel has charm and history, and yes -- a haunted vibe -- but without that, there wouldn't be much left to justify the price. The food was decent, though overpriced, and again -- the pricing inconsistencies made it hard to enjoy. Would I recommend this hotel? No. And when friends have asked, I've been honest about both the good and the bad. This stay didn't ruin my birthday weekend -- I didn't allow that -- but I was absolutely let down. For a historic hotel that markets itself on experience and charm, the execution simply doesn't match the cost. read more

Breakfast review. First the bad: Service: 1 star, except for Eba from Bulgaria 5 stars! It took 10 minutes for someone to notice us at the sign that said "please wait to be seated," and 1 person was already there waiting. When we were finally greeted, the hostess was unfriendly and dour. Everyone except Eba were slow, unfriendly,and unprofessional. There were only 3 other couples in the place already eating, but it still took our server another 10 minutes to acknowledge us. I ordered some country gravy as a side since the breakfast I was planning on came with a biscuit. It was very thin and flavorless. I sent it back. Now for what was good: food 5 star. I ordered the Buffalo Hash, and my wife ordered the French toast. Her French toast was perfectly cooked, and the fruit was perfectly ripe and proportioned. My Buffalo Hash was the best Hash l have ever had. It was very meaty, and the tomatoes and potatoes cooked perfectly, which was topped with 2 over easy eggs. Eba's shining demeanor while delivering our food took the sting out of the prior lack of professionalism from the rest of the staff. We left very satisfied, but due to the service issues, we would probably not go there again. There are several other restaurants with good reviews within a short walk. Cheers! read more

We come to spend five nights in Glenwood Springs over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I made reservations at the Hotel Colorado which was one of two places that I could find online serving a Thanksgiving dinner@ $90 a person for the buffet. I thought this was pretty expensive, but since we live in a small town with no restaurants and didn't go out often to eat we decided to give it a try. I understand the restaurant business as many members in my family have owned and operated restaurants over the years. This was a hit and miss experience. We started off by being told we needed to get our own drinks when I ordered an Arnold Palmer . In other words you were only served a drink if it had alcohol. So we went to get drinks and all the pitchers of tea and lemonade were empty as was the decaf coffee which is what my boyfriend wanted. So I had to inform the staff that those two items needed to be refilled. Then to make things worst @ $90 you would think you could at the very least provide your guest with a proper glass or coffee cup. We get paper cups at coffee businesses in the drive through. So we next hit the shrimp and salad station which was very pleasing with a nice ice sculpture of a turkey and very large shrimp for shrimp cocktail. The salads on the back side were also very good along with a nice variety of fresh fruit. I was still working on my salad when my boyfriend headed to the entrees. He came back to the table because there were no plates. No problem within a minute or two the plates were restocked. Now we were both ready for the main dishes and I started off with soup which both were very good but not really very hot. I only took a very small amount of each dish next because I wanted to try everything. This was a big disappointment for Thanksgiving dinner as almost everything on my plate was cool or luke warm except the salmon and mashed potatoes. The pork was so cold I took one bit and didn't eat the rest. I want my meal to be hot especially meat. Speaking of meat the ham and turkey were processed rolls not carved from the bird or ham. My boyfriend was so disappointed he didn't even eat his turkey. You would have thought that on a buffet there would have been a craving station for $90 a person. Let's not forgets the cranberries which was mixed with other fruit and was delicious. Now we heading to the dessert table and I love cheese cake. There were two so I took small pieces of both and they were both tasty, but neither one was the consistency of cheese cake more like the consistency and texture of pumpkin pie. So over all the meal was decent, but for a Thanksgiving Dinner I would give it a failure because the turkey was not craved from the bird. So would I ever go back for this meal again never at $90 a person, maybe at half the price. I watched the staff scramble to put heat back under the serving trays as they prepared for the next round of guests, in reality they should have kept the heat all along so guest like me had hot food. I absolutely love this place. The food is fantastic. The service is 20/10 and the ambiance is unbeatable. Mostly in the summer when you can sit outside in the garden next to the coy pond, under the white lights. It is absolutely magical. The food is great. Whether it is brunch, lunch or dinner, I have tried it all and have always been wowed! BRUNCH: I am not in love with their huevos because it is not smothered in green chile like a proper Colorado huevos. However, the breakfast burrito slaps and any of the eggs benedict will make you happy. If you are a breakfast person that leans on the sweet side, they have breathtaking options (we have tried them all). The french toast is amazing and topped with bananas and strawberries, the cinnamon roll is the size of my head and oozing with frosting and butter (you can't go wrong), and the bananas foster crepes are just as elevated as they sound. Dinner and lunch have some overlap, but this is my favorite meal outside The fried blue claw crab cakes are a must! They are like little balled fritters that you dunk in a spicy aoili. Divine! The salads are great. Our favorite entrees were the Lemon Chicken Piccata and the Grilled Salmon, which is served over a polenta cake with creamed spinach and a brown butter glaze. Last but not least, their cocktails are constantly changing and they always amaze me. SO SO GOOD. Don't order wine or beer here, they know how to mix their drinks and you don't want to pass one of their craft cocktails up. I like ALL of the spritzers. The strawberry aperol is my fave. (They don't overdo it on the aperol which is rare). Next time you are in Glenwood, be sure to stop here to eat, whether you are staying at the Hotel Colorado or not, it is the best in town! read more

. What a disappointing experience we had tonight. Let me preface this by saying that my husband's grandparents spent their honeymoon here, we got engaged here, and we have celebrated many anniversaries here over the last 22 years. Today, we were celebrating my in-laws' 53rd wedding anniversary. After a fun day at the hot springs, we returned to the hotel, freshened up, and took our dogs for a walk. It was a beautiful night, so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. We approached the bar, where a bearded man and a blonde woman with a braid were working. As I stood at the bar, looking to see what premium alcohol they had available, the male bartender instructed the female bartender to inform me that they were closed. She walked over and said, "Sorry guys, but we are closed. We close at ten." I asked, "On a Saturday?" She replied, "Yep," with a sharp tone. I said, "Oh, okay," and looked at my husband with a smile. "I guess it's drinks in our room." We had no problem with that and started to walk away. As we were leaving, she blew out her breath in a laugh and told the male bartender, "They aren't from here apparently..." She said it loud enough for me to very clearly hear her as we were walking away, 15-20 feet away. There was one man sitting at the bar, and about two big tables of people on the lawn who were still there an hour and forty minutes after they supposedly closed. I have to say, I was a little embarrassed and hurt by her comment. It wasn't whether or not we were from Colorado; it was just the way she talked and laughed about her own comments. I'm not sure why, but it really affected me. This incident has changed my view of a place our family holds so dear. Our family has been coming here since my husband's grandparents' honeymoon in 1947. We got engaged here, and it's a generational tradition. Additionally, Teddy Roosevelt actually came hunting at our Centennial ranch in Collbran, CO. Since Teddy Roosevelt hunted at our ranch and so many special occasions have been celebrated here, we feel a deep connection to this place. So, she is apparently confused, as our family settled here in 1888 from Norway. We aren't usually big drinkers, so we don't always know when alcohol isn't served. But as I mentioned, we were celebrating tonight, and it was 11:40 pm. It's such a shame that an employee like that works here. What a black mark on our experience tonight. read more

My wife and I came here for our 15-year wedding anniversary and couldn't have been more disappointed. Do not come here if you're thinking this is an upscale restaurant, it's not. We sat on the patio in uncomfortable metal chairs that wobbled on the uneven stone ground. Flies/bugs were landing on us and the table. It would have been nice to see some kind of repellant i.e., tiki torches, to help reduce the number of bugs. People were dressed in sweatpants, putting their feet up on the chairs, and letting their children run around the patio. The children ran into my wife's chair twice. Now to the horrible food/drink experience... Avoid the Whiskey/Schnapps Long Island. Neither of us could finish that drink. The strawberry margarita was much better. regardless of the drink, they're charging 18-22 per drink! Thats insane! The Ceasar Salad was okay, came with sardines which is gross. Seems like a small percentage of people would prefer that on their salad for sardines to be a default topping. But again, they want to be an upscale restaurant so bad. The Flatbread was okay, but the chicken was burnt. I ordered the $59.00 Ribeye, ordered Medium Rare, and it came out a solid Well Done! I'm sorry, but if you're going to charge that much for a steak, you better know how to cook it! Plus, it wasn't aesthetically pleasing either. It looked like it was boiled and then flash fried on a grill for markings. My side was "Shoe-string fries" which were absolutely NOT shoe-string fries. They were the same fries as McDonalds. Freddy's has shoe-string fries. They should either serve shoe-string fries or just call them fries. But again, they want to be an upscale restaurant so bad! My wife ordered the "Bone-in Lamb Chops". Well, they were not "Bone-in" as they came out as two separate pieces with no bone. They mistakenly brought her a baked potato instead of the mashed potatoes and instead of bringing her out a side of mashed potatoes, they took her entire plate and were gone for 5 minutes which allowed her lamb to get cold. The plate came back out with a big cookie scoop size of mashed potatoes but still had bacon pieces on her plate from the baked potato. Again, this place wants to be an upscale restaurant so bad but royally failed in every category. At this point, we had enough and told our waitress, who was amazing by the way, that we were disappointed/unsatisfied with the food/drink experience and were leaving. Neither of us took a bite of our meals. We told her we were willing to pay for the drinks, flatbread, and salad; however, they went above expectation here and comped everything. We ended up going to a brewery down the street and had an amazing meal, even though we weren't hungry anymore. Totally killed the vibe for our 15-year wedding anniversary. I'd highly suggest you avoid this place. If you do go, you should go with low expectations and avoid anything on the menu that's priced over $25.00. I promise you; it won't be worth it! read more

We had high hopes for the hotel where politicians and patrons have dined however it was a strange experience from the get go. We waited at the sign and had to flag down someone to be seated. The was good not great: bison steak was quite however the 'chicken piccata' was chicken tenders with cavatappi mac & cheese. My wife ordered veal and it was the same treatment. Both dishes came with a half sliced jalapeño and tortillas; essentially our party ordered Italian and received Mexican? The ambiance was nice, and service was adequate, the only two things that saved our strange meal at the Hotel of the Rockies. I recommend walking over to downtown rather than paying $$$ for macaroni and cheese. read more

A disappointment and disorganized, I had an online reservation at the Hotel Colorado restaurant for dinner for 2 at 7 PM on July 9th and it was confirmed by the hotel. When we arrived we found the dining room was closed. We were then told the only dinner service was outside. We took a table and then saw other people turned away because a table was reserved. We asked, and were told that table was being held for us, but we were already eating. Disorganized! The lamb chops and flatbread were okay, but not worth the price and disappointing seating and service. The servers apologized for the closure of the dining room but someone else made a mistake by not advising us the dining room was closed. One star only because the site won't allow zero! They advertise flourless chocolate torte on their online menu and in EAT magazine for 8$ per slice. We went to pick up two pieces to go a couple days before Christmas. As we were leaving my husband commented that the bill was $30! I went back to the hostess and ask about it. She said sorry, they haven't updated their website. I then open a box to see what could cost $15 dollars per slice. It wasn't even the flourless torte! It was lava cake, and it was 2 1/4 inches in diameter!! Then she says, sorry, we don't have the flourless torte.... What false advertising and trying to pass off the lava cake instead without telling us! We said we wanted to return them and she agreed. Came back out and said it was taken care of and our card was credited. Well today, two weeks later, we see our card has not been credited! So... we will be submitting a claim with our credit card company. Patrons beware!! Also, I don't know why it says I'm from Silverthorne? Very impressed and will return. We had a 3pm meal in the front patio, which was lovely. We had an Old Fashioned and a mint citrus Vodka drink, and both were excellent. We both had salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Again, all delicious. For breakfast, we ate in the dining room. I had the BRAT eggs Benedict, which was the best Benedict I've ever had. Husband had standard eggs, bacon potatoes, toast, and reported was good. So pleased as hotel restaurants are often not good but these are very good. read more

This was a nice place and extremely convenient if you're staying g at Hotel Colorado. The ambiance with the indoor waterfall was beautiful. Our service was ok, but not amazing. Timeliness was more difficult because it took a bit for them to come by, refill coffees, and to get cashed out. The food was generally very good with the exception of one dish. Our group got the BLAT Benedict with cheesy potatoes which was delicious. The biscuit and gravy was the best! It came in a little cast iron skillet! The rancheros was alright, but a little spicy. The bananas foster crepes were very disappointing that we barely ate any. They were just very sweet and were definitely missing a crunch or something to fill the crepes like mascarpone or something like that. I recently stayed at the Hotel Colorado and had a wonderful time. We ended up dining at the Hotel Colorado restaurant three times because it was so wonderful! Jon was our waiter the first night and he was the best! He offered suggestions and was especially kind and attentive to my elderly Mom. He told us about some fun places to see in town as well. Jon and the fabulous food was the reason we ended up coming back for dinner the next night. On our second night, Mom said she'd like a glass of a sweeter champagne after dinner. Jon took the time to go to the Hotel bar to get the perfect selection for her. She loved it! The hotel allows guest to take their cocktails out on the grounds and the lovely fireplace areas in the lobby. We really enjoyed this. The hotel lights the fireplaces each evening which created a cozy, comfortable place to chat and relax. But I haven't talked about the gourmet food yet. The food was beautifully arranged on each plate. The prettiest Caesar salad you will ever see! Every item was delicious. The meals were a huge highlight of our stay at the hotel. Though some of the reviews were clearly negative, we decided to try this iconic location and hope for the best. We were not disappointed in any way. In fact, we couldn't think of a single thing to criticize and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. Our appetizer was the OMG delicious skillet Brussel Sprouts with chunks of burnt ends? Entrées were 1) the salad entrée sliced green apples shredded brussel sprouts with added salmon, and 2) the fillet, medium rare with new potatoes that were flavorful and perfectly cooked delicious, the topping on top of the fillet was a perfect mixture of salty and sweet. The 3/4" filet literally melted in my mouth with fantastic flavor. The salad was refreshing and delicious with the vinaigrette dressing. The ambience with the sounds of the natural stone fountain in the background was just icing on the cake. read more
