Cash Box Pawn - Pawn Shops Near Me - Kyle, Texas

Hello, I wanted to reach out about a experience I just had at the Kyle Cash Box Pawnshop. I went to the shop today a little after 9:30 am and walk in. I was greeted by a employee who said he was not ready to open yet so I said no worries and waited outside. The reason for me coming today was to look for a guitar amp as I buy music gear from this location very often and always pay cash. I went to look for a amp I previously had seen but it had sold so I looked over the other amps. I saw one I wanted to test out and asked if it was cool if I tested it. I helped remove lawn mowers and all kinds of stuff to help the employee get stuff outside as he was already running late opening up. Once we moved all the stuff I was able to plug up and tested the amp. I thought the amp would be a good fit so I asked if it had the foot switch for it, we looked around and didnt see one with it but did see another footswitch in the display case which had been there for over 12 months. I told the employee I am going to buy the amp but asked if he could toss in the amp footswitch with it. Once I did that it seemed like things went way south. The employee got online and started looking up stuff and said he was not going to sell me the amp unless I wanted to pay 3X the labeled price that was on it. I asked if I could speak to a manager or owner as he was already on the phone with them in front of me, the employee told me no I could not speak to them but another employee would be coming. The employee then went and removed the labeled price tags . I waited now for right at a hour and the other employee and when he showed up he also recognized me from my previous purchases. The other employee shows up and said it was his mistake cause of a "eye injury" and even though it was his mistake and I am a valued customer. He then stated "he has work to do" and no longer wanted to speak to me about the issue. I have spent thousands at this location through the years and they know me from buying often. They told me to basically kick rocks at selling me the item for the labeled price they had and they wanted me to pay 3X the price it was labeled for. I had cash in my pocket to buy but walked out. They admitted they made a mistake but it's their mistake. As a business owner myself what I feel what would have been a good outcome would have been to sell the item to a long valued customer for the price marked or offer the item for the price they paid for it if more than mistake label. They then would keep a valued customer who would continue to tell people about the great deals, chalk it up as a learning experience for employees and not suffer a financial loss and break even. But no, they said kick rocks they "have work to do" and refused service to a long time customer who had cash in pocket. I understand a business not wanting to take a loss but that was not about this, it was about a local shop who I spend a lot of cash with wanted the maximum profit imaginable for a item a customer was willing to buy at asking price or would have been willing to give what was originally given so the Pawn will break even, have a employee learning experience, and keep a valued returning customer in the community. We as business owners all have choices to make and I personally feel this could have been handled much better. read more

I read the poor reviews of this place, and I typically take those with a grain of salt. In this case, I should've listened. I hope you'll learn from my mistake. I went in a month ago and asked about an item displayed in the counter. Since none of the employees or management knew where it came from, though, I was told that I could purchase it after a month if no one claimed it. So I waited a month, and today I called to ask about it again. I was told it was now available, and quoted a price, which I agreed to. So I made a trip down to Kyle, pulled cash from the bank, and was informed when I arrived that it was actually already on layaway to a friend of an employee (despite me being told that layaway wasn't an option until the item hit the sales floor.) I left empty-handed after A MONTH of patience and misinformation from these folks, and I can confidently say that I will never do business there again. Ever. Save yourself the headache and go someplace else for your bargain shopping. These guys are unreliable and unethical. read more

Drove in from north Austin and Went in as a serious buyer looking to purchase a scanner. Found one of interest as a gentleman came up and was glad to help me out. Well the device didn't have a charger so there was no way to power it up and test it. Well this lady Stephanie I guess was already in a bad mood or something cause she quickly fired because I was asking what deal they could do since they have no way of testing it. I was still interested but this girl didn't want my business was ready to spend $350+ but guess I'll just buy it new at Matco. $500 Thank you Stephanie for helping me make my decision in purchasing a new one. read more

I have followed up on 3 different items that they listed on Craigslist (under "owner" not dealer) and was stupified by the price mentality of this business. One time? could be an ignorant sales person, but after 3 times, I guess it's just a shady business. Need Harbor Freight welder is MORE than the new one (with a 30 day warranty)? Surprising selection, lots of classics. Customer service 11/10, friendliest pawn shop I've been to, they really work with you and ensure everybody wins. I've never been to a pay shop that ask full retail for items they sell. I asked about the prices of a bicycle that was sitting outside, with two flat tires, beat up frame and rust all over it. They told me $250, which is $19 cheaper than retail. I asked if they were serious and they said yes. This is the 2nd and last time I will go here looking for merchandise. The first time they had two fishing reels listed for $10 more than retail and wouldn't come off of them. Save your time and go to the new shop across the highway. They have realistic prices and want to help you. read more

I have been in this place a few times looking at guitar gear. Ironically i have not seen much of it move in the 2 years or so I have popped in. In fact, they have had the same Digitech Bad Monkey Pedal in the case since I have been coming in. Today I noticed they had a MXR Phase 90 pedal listed for $59. I have been wanting a MXR Phase 90 so I went in to see if they could make me an offer. First of all it was mismarked at $59. The guy told me it was $69, not $59. I told the guy that Guitar Center sells these same units used for $39.99 and showed him on my phone Guitar Center's website. He proceeded to tell me that eBay has these same pedals for $50+. He kept referring to this pedal as a MXR "script" pedal, which it was not. It was a standard MXR Phase 90. He claims this store did have a eBay store and he could sell it on there for more. I told him I did not think he wanted to pay the listing fees and even on eBay they go for $40 at times. Secondly, I explained that the Pawn business was not like Guitar Center used. There is a different price point. (Usually Pawn Shops have 1/3 of the money they have an item listed for in it. Even if this pedal was $69, they probably only had $20 in it.) I offered him $25 at first and he told me he would do it for $50. When I told it that was more than the used price, he came back at $45 without tax. I countered at $35 which was more than fair for a pedal in a pawn shop in Kyle which does not have as much traffic as say Austin. I have bought Boss pedals from pawn shops in Austin for $25 easily. He was pretty adamant on his price claiming he could sell it to someone else. I shook my head in disbelief because I had seen those same pedals in the display case for almost a year. You can not tell me that he gets the same brand and model pedals all the time. Even if the guy would have bit the bullet and given me the pedal at $30 and only made $5 or $10 bucks off the pedal, he would have made a customer and I would be coming back for not just pedals but Xbox games and what not. If this store wants to be serious about moving merchandise, they need to start making deals instead of bragging they can make money on eBay. If you could make money on eBay, why even have a retail store ? Why pay rent and utilities? You could have one location and sell all of your stuff and call it a day. Thanks but no thanks. We went to cash box because it is local, and we needed quick cash, we were told basically our items were not worth much, hard to sell, no market, all the stuff for their low offer, then another customer says he'll pay us more, so we were asked to leave the premises.....one item was "interesting" the other not so much however an offer was made for each, but with one off the table, nothing for the other. The guy who got us in trouble never left the store that we saw, he was making a purchase so that was ok. We went to another pawn shop, who offered us much more than cash box did, for both items. Not sure what game cash box plays, but it was a terrible experience. Will never go there again, and would not recommend it. They also told us their "other" location paid high for antique cameras, which I had to sell, when we got there they said not true. No recommendations for them, ever. This place Freaking sucks! They posted an ad on Craigslist for a MacBook for $300. They were closed shortly after the ad was posted. I call first thing the next morning and the guy tells me it is "on hold" for another customer. WTF! If they were closed how did it get put on hold . 2nd I thought Pawn shops were in the business of making money and would NOT hold anything unless you paid a certain percentage to put it on layaway! What if a guy like me has the cash in hand and is ready to buy? I can't because you are holding it for your friend, or so it seems. The guys said to call back after noon so I did. another guys answers and says MacBook is available. I jump in the car cash in hand to go buy the MacBook then I get there and the guys says, "oh it is on hold until Monday". DOUBLE WTF!!!! couldn't they have told me that on the phone before I drove down there? This seems like a locally owned family shop so it is hard for me to say this because I live in Kyle and like to support my local businesses....but stay away from this Pawn Shop, they are Freaking idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to see if they would "hold" something for me I called and asked them to "hold" an Xbox 360 for me and the guy that answered said they could only hold it for a day until business closes. I have had no problems dealing with this pawn shop. It is never a good time to be in a situation where you need to pawn things. I have bought, sold and pawned things with these people for years. This place is a total scam. I went in to see what they had. I found a phone that was in decent condition. I asked the man behind the counter the return policy on electronics and he told me 7 days. I purchased the phone and off I went. A day or two later the phones buttons would only work intermittently. I took the phone, charger and receipt in and spoke to two men (one of them who sold me the phone). They told me that they wouldn't exchange it. I reminded the salesman he told me I had 7 days and he brushed the reminder off and made several excuses. The other man did the same. As I countered each one of his excuses he would just make up a new "policy" or excuse that was posted nowhere. I would never use this place again and I'd warn you against it. read more
