Buying used stuff from a pawn shop is the same sort of deal as buying it at a garage sale, or a flea market. It's WAY cheaper, but you have to assume some risk. Buy stuff that you KNOW enough about to thoroughly check it over. I'm certain the staff are not super-experts on all the different types of merchandise. I've not needed to go there as a seller.
