Who doesn't love Hyde Park Bar & Grill Central? It is an Austin staple. Well, in full transparency, I have not been to Hyde Park Bar & Grill for over 20 years. Since I was so close, I had to try their Famous French Fries. OMG...David, a server there 20 years ago, was still there! He said that he has been working at Hyde Park Bar & Grill for 44 years!!! Now that is some staying power. This morning I did a cycle class and Zumba class, so I earned the right to have some fries and so I did. The fries come with ketchup and the famous Hyde Park sauce. Back in the day, I was skilled at dipping my fries into the Hyde Park sauce first and then ketchup. It came back to me like riding a bicycle. The fries were crispier than I remembered, but nonetheless delicious. In addition, I ordered some hibiscus mint tea...so refreshing. David, put my leftover fries in a to go box and pour my left over tea into a to go cup. Talk about service...excellent! The restaurant has some beautiful paintings for sale. Loved the colorful and abstract ones... Some things don't change...in a good way!

Hyde Park Grill has a giant fork outside. This fun house restaurant has art on the wall and little seating books from what used to be outdoor porches; it's been around a long time and shows some wear and tear. The menu is casual American grill with salads and burgers, brunch and meaty entrees, along with a couple of interesting outliers such as fried dumplings. The children's menu is an all too common assault on health of the mac n cheese/cheese quesadilla/grilled cheese/cheeseburger ilk. Nary a vegetable. You can however choose between a side of fruit (strawberries and mandarins) or fries for them. We really need to do better for kids. Adults, the burgers don't come with any extras. No pickle spear. Fries for $4. No choice of fruit. My grilled tuna was cooked maybe one minute too long but was still ok, though it gave me heartburn. The creamed spinach side was delicious. The Mac n cheese too salty. Service was quite slow despite only two other occupied tables when we arrived. Our basic food took over 20 min to arrive. Our server was at the end of his shift and it was so obvious he couldn't wait to get out of there. The bathroom area consists of two unisex bathrooms (with urinals) and a changing station outside. We saw a pretty nice $5 happy hour drink menu from M-F, 3-6. I might return to enjoy that and to try Wom Kim's peach pudding. Otherwise I'd eat elsewhere.

Came in for a casual family dinner and it was a good spot for that! Server was new but did a great job. Tried the lentil soup for starters and it wasn't my favorite. Had the pan roasted chicken for my entree and really liked it! The sauce it comes with was almost sweet and a great pairing. Saw it was under new management recently so will have to come back and try it out again.

I cannot believe how great their happy hour is! I mean $20 during happy hour here will get you a long way. I dig that this is one of those OG Austin spots still holding strong since the 80s. It's got such a chill and laid back vibe too. Prettu old-school feeling, in the best way possible. Great food choices, at happy hour too! Some of the nicest bar/restaurant staff around.

Best fries ive ever had and service is 10/10 felt right at home. Pinning it down as my favorite place in austin. Dont be shy, come over!

One of my fav brunch spots in Austin. The service is great and has the old diner feel to it.

2/16/26 came here by myself for lunch after not eating their food for months and everything was great. Food came out hot, I've been craving a chicken fried steak! Andrew took care of me with great service. I've never been disappointed here, reminded me that I need to come more often.

From the moment we stepped in the people and the service was awesome. The people were genuine and that's what top service is supposed to be feel like. The place it self had a small restaurant vibe with homey type decor. The art was a nice touch as well. Great way to show local talent and help get their visions in front of customers. It was my first time there so I was told it's an absolute must to order the Hyde fries. Looking over the menu, it's a pretty good range of food. Creative pairings and a little something for everyone. The fries were just okay. It needed something to zing it up. I of course got the Chicken and waffles, the best food pairing in all of food history. And it did not disappoint. Good portions, good flavor, good crunch on the breaded chicken. I look forward to coming back and trying something new.

I hate leaving just 3 stars for Hyde Park Bar & Grill because I've always loved the food here and the friendly atmosphere. It's still a great atmosphere with friendly people working there, but the food has changed. The Mac and cheese seems to be from a box. They used to have a fantastic veggie burger made of grains, and now it's very different and not something I want to eat again. It's got chopped vegetables in it and reminds me of the frozen Dr. Praeger's patties.

This is best thought of as a neighborhood place, not a destination for a meal. My wife has fond memories of this place and my daughter now lives in the neighborhood so we walked over on a mild Sunday evening in April. They were doing good business so we waited for our table at the bar. It's a nice-looking bar and they've a good cocktail list. I had their Negroni and my daughter had the Paloma while her fiance' had a brew and my wife had water. I liked my Negroni a great deal (a go-to of mine) and my daughter liked her Paloma. No sooner had we been brought our drinks, our table was ready. The restaurant has paintings on the wall by Linda Wandt which are worth looking at. She favors carnivorous plants, such as sundews and flytraps and pitcher plants juxtaposed against animals such as hummingbirds. It's a nice twist on the cattle skull motif favored by some as representing Texas. My wife had a salad and though she didn't see it on the menu, she asked about their lentil soup and was able to order that. My daughter ordered the salmon and her fiance' ordered the burger. I went with the 12oz ribeye, substituting their fries for the mashed potatoes and also ordered the greens with bacon bits. Our server was knowledgeable about the dishes and accommodating. When I expressed cautious interest in the Hullaballoo zin, she poured me a small taste. It's a good wine with a nice balance of tannins and fruit, so I went with it. Everybody was happy with their meal choice except me. To me, a ribeye is a boneless, well-marbled piece of meat, so I expect some fat among the muscle. This ribeye is not that. Well, it was boneless. They describe it as being "smoked" so that may explain the difference we have. This ribeye is a neatly-shaped lean oval of steak with sear marks so neatly impressed it might have been pre-packaged (same with the burger patty I'll note). It was not a juicy steak, but a dry one. It was not to my taste so I did not finish it. I respectfully suggest they explore using a juicier cut of meat, even if it can only be 8-10oz. Or explain that this "smoking" process results in a dry steak that may not be to everyone's taste. First time in Texas that I've had a problem with a steak.

We were excited to try the food, and were hungry. Our server appeared (I can't remember his name but he was a short guy with blond hair). I ordered a cocktail and my husband ordered beer to begin with. He went away and then came back asking my husband if he wanted some whiskey cocktail, and we corrected him that we had asked for a particular beer. No big deal. We then ordered the deviled eggs and shishito peppers, and the red fish and short ribs for entree. A lady brought us the drinks, and the deviled eggs. Our server swung by and then disappeared. We thought the shishito peppers were on their way. We waited for what seemed like a really long time and still no shishito peppers. We also noticed that each table had a carafe of water except ours. We were just given water once, and then our server never bothered to fill the water up. Anyway, we kept waiting since there was no sign of the server. At this point, we felt he might have forgotten the second appetizer and we just did not want it, but he was nowhere to be found. A man (not our server) brought out our entrees. We then told him that we had been waiting for our second appetizer and would just want to cancel it. We asked if we could get the biscuits instead. He brought out the biscuits within a few minutes. Now this is where it really annoyed us. Had our server just come over and said he had forgotten our shishito peppers, it would have been okay. Human. What he tried was act smart and dropped by saying the shishito peppers would be out to which we said that we didn't want an appetizer after an entree and had cancelled it. I almost felt like he was treating us as if he thought we don't really dine out or whatever and he could just make fools of us. This really didn't sit right with me. We asked him for water and he filled it up left. The food was above average. The short ribs were good but my red fish had been hammered! The biscuits were good. The deviled eggs were good as well. Anyway, we finished our meal, and got the check, paid, and were waiting to finish our drinks. The receipt was on our table. Also, note, it was not a particularly busy day with several empty tables. What our server did next was absolutely unacceptable. I think he wanted to see if we had tipped him after his awful service. We did, but not 20% as we always do because of the soddy job he did, not to mention his attitude. We paid 15% which I think was more than what he deserved now. Out of nowhere, and mind you, after being absent for long periods before, he just came by, grabbed the paid up bill from our table to our shock, while we were still sitting and talking, looked at the bill, turned towards us, and muttered something angry under his breath and walked away. I have never seen this level of entitlement and bad behavior. We left right away. We had been really looking forward to this meal but I would not want to go back. The food was good, but not great, and I would not want to put up with such obnoxious behavior as a paying customer.

Rosé Gosé (note accents) is in an unassuming Airport Blvd location (right next to Jewboy Burgers, an Austin favorite). It is run by a couple from Belarus that came here right after Covid to open up a restaurant, with a sister in Minsk. Defying expectations, the menu is not Balkan at all. If anything, there is a strong Asian influence with poke bowls and a lot of seafood. But the menu also offers beef tartare on their raw bar menu, as well as a steak offering and grilled chicken. It's a diverse and adventurous menu, all the way from small plates to hefty mains and vegetable sides. For the dessert, try the pavlova, a meringue confection stuffed with coconut mousse and topped with lime sorbet and a grapefruit slice sidecar. Everything is superbly presented, and unquestionably fresh and healthy without veering into twigs and berries territory. The cocktail menu is also playful, with a lot of nontraditional glassware and slight spins on popular drinks; their version of a Paloma uses prosecco instead of a splash of soda. The servers are all dressed in rosé jumpsuits and very attentive. The space is amiable and elegant without being pretentious. The table spacing is a little close, so that conversations carry between guests. The table setting has some nice touches, like the little wooden bench that holds your fork and knife off the table. In European fashion, water can be asked for but it won't be served with ice. Plan on taking your time and enjoying course after course.

Rosé Gosé was a delightful Mother's Day lunch spot. It is a whole vibe, and it is uniquely French! When we walked in an artist was playing romantic music on his keyboard, which set the tone for the brunch. It is a small restaurant inside with a larger area of seating on the patio. Of course, our reservations were inside in the comforts of air conditioning. You immediately notice a wine wall hence the name Rosé Gosé. The restaurant has many windows which provide lots of natural light. The tables house miniature yellow roses and utensils sat in a small wooden block...very French. All the servers were dressed in mauve clothing that resemble scrubs from a hospital. If someone stepped out in a French beret, I would have fallen over. Our server, Sergey, immediately served us water and took our order. The restaurant was highlighted as a modern European bistro. The atmosphere was charming, elegant, and stylish making it ideal for a Mother's Day brunch. My hubby ordered a ribeye, eggs and French Fries. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and egg whites. While I'm not a huge red meat eater, I tasted a piece of the hubs ribeye and it was nicely prepared. My avocado toast was yummy to the nth degree! Everything was perfect. The avocado was precisely cut and at the right level of softness. The salmon was chopped into tiny little squares and so enjoyable to eat. We could not be more pleased. With a name like Rosé Gosé you would expect their drinks to be superb. My hubby ordered a hibiscus tea, which was delightful. I ordered a mimosa that had high quality ingredients and was perfectly balanced...so smooth. We were also pleased with the drinks. This was the first time at Rosé Gosé, however, it definitely will not be the last.
