Casper's. Still the same old hotdogs from what I remember from childhood. I haven't been here in ages! Definitely before Yelp. Nothing has changed. Nice to see that they get a lot of customers. We ate in to stay out of the heat so I was able to see a steady line of customers coming in then going out. Hotdogs were prepared like an assembly line. You order, then one person assembles your dog (hotdog, polish dog, hot link) and adds the toppings. Then it gets wrapped while one person gets your drink ready. Then one person hands your order to you. The line moves quickly because the dogs are already cooked. The hotdogs still taste the same. It hits the spot if you want a hotdog. But it's not as good as a Costco hotdog or if you want a grilled bratwurst. Inside Casper's still has the same feel from the 70's with the same orange and yellow colors. Loved it! read more

Nothing worse than getting your order 100% wrong. I ordered 2 caspers dogs today with diced onion and tomato, relish, mustard, cheese. They had GOBS of cheese, THICK SLICES of tomato and onion and NO MUSTARD. Just gross. At the outrageous prices theyre now charging, I AT LEAST expect to get my order correctly made. If you're craving a hot dog and in the Pleasant Hill area, stop by Casper's on Contra Costa Blvd. The restaurant definitely looks a bit dated from the street and the interior, but it has a really cool, old-school diner feel once you're inside. The service was great! The staff is super friendly and clearly knows the what they're doing. It feels like a team that's been working together for decades. Ordered plain Casper's Dog, a Hot link loaded with sourkraut, and a chili cheese dog. The chili cheese dog was massive, however, I'll order it with a double or triple hot dog next time. The bun and chili to hot dog ratio was skewed too far in one direction. However, we may need to wait a few years before we attempt this meal again. Not the healthiest meal but once a year or every two years may be acceptable! The dogs all had a nice bite to the casing. Their Vanilla milkshake was excellent too! read more

There is no hot dog like a Casper's/Kasper's dog. The last Kasper's has closed, so we're down to a handful of Casper's restaurants. The difference was negligible and had something to do with a family rift. But please keep Kasper Koojoolian's legacy alive. He was an Armenian immigrant who escaped the genocide and started a hot dog stand in downtown Oakland that turned into a local chain. Again, there is no hot dog like a Casper's dog. I personally prefer the Polish, but the regular dog and hot link are also wonderful. I know it's just a hot dog, but it tastes so much better than any hot dog you can buy at the fair or the ballgame. Some of it is the quality of the frank, some of it is the steamed bun, and some of it is the choice of condiments. Please never ask for ketchup. Ketchup is wrong on a Casper's dog, and it is available only by request. Their chili is also amazing, whether you order it on the dog or in a separate bowl (which is what I recommend.) This review is actually about a young lady who works at the Pleasant Hill Casper's. She is a bit nervous, as if this is her first retail job, but very friendly and attentive. I wish I knew her name. While she's preparing your dog, she asks questions like, "Is that enough relish?" I like her attitude. Please put a tip in the jar for her. read more

I'm surprised I've never written a review for this place before. When I'm in the mood for something savory with cheddar cheese I love to come here and get a cheese dog. I usually get my kiddo a cheese dog as well. I am really impressed about how not only are the buns longer for the long hot dog, but also they are warmed up, too. The people who work there have great attitudes and I share jokes with them and them with me. The reason for the 4 stars instead of a full 5 is not even really their fault, but it's the price. I don't normally review a fast food place as you're generally not expecting much of anything other than fast hot food served by friendly people. I ordered a chili cheese dog and a hot link dog. The hot link is appropriately named and it was pretty good. I probably should've had it the Casper way but I'm not a fan of tomato slices on hot food nor relish. Should've ordered it with cheese as well but maybe next time. My chili cheese dog was a GENEROUS portion. I ordered it without the tomato and relish (that's how all their dogs come as well as with mustard and diced raw onions). It wasn't bad. I was underwhelmed by the flavor though, it tasted like canned Hormel chili though I could be wrong. Otherwise it was a standard chili cheese dog with my preferred light on the onions. It was full of bites of nostalgia, which is another reason to visit. The service wasn't particularly friendly but I did notice if you're a regular, they do tend to brighten up while taking and making your order. The work surfaces were clean but the rest of the restaurant could be cleaner. Some paint touch ups would be good as well. It's family friendly as there were many kids with their parents that came in and out while I ate. Overall an okay experience. I would've preferred a little more variety of menu options like a Chicago dog or an east coast dog, etc. Service could've been a little friendlier as well. This brick and motar still looks the same like it did in the 90's but now the booths and seating look and feel tiny compared to when I use to bring the kids here when they were school- aged. Fast casual/take and go. Like the simplicity of the menu, just dogs and packaged chips since there is no fryer or grill. The hot dogs are steaming hot. The condiments and toppings are put on for you by the sweet and friendly ladies who have been working there 20+ years! So sad to hear that Hayward location last day is today (7/13/2024) Appreciate this place even more now even if there is a bit of a wait in line. The staff are efficient and work quickly though. Long story short. Read a story on how Kaspers was closing its 1st store located in Oakland and thought no are they closing all of them. Well looking into the story and history I did not know that there are 2 Kaspers and Caspers. So I wanted to go and get some hot dogs and glad to know that they are still open here. I think the one on Clayton rd is the one that closed. Any how ordered a few dogs haven't been here in a long time forgot how good the hot dogs are and the portions are great. Service was good as well the ladies inside were really nice. The ambiance is like stepping back into time and reminding me of when I was younger. Casper's Hot Dogs in Pleasant Hill, CA. The hot dogs are great but we'll get to that in a minute. The service is where this place really shines. Carrying on with a long tradition - Casper's has a fleet of wonderful women serving up your hot dogs as you like them. They're friendly, polite, humorous, kind, helpful - they're the stars of the show. The hot dogs are delicious. I don't know exactly what sets them apart but they're different than any other dog around. They're long and flavorful and juicy and the toppings are always top notch and fresh - and somehow always have the perfect amount of everything. My family has been going here since the 80's and I'm happy to say they've been super consistent the entire time. The ambiance is - well, a pretty old hot dog joint haha. Nothing special. Either super nostalgic or in dire need of an update - depending on which direction you lean. Personally, I prefer it staying the way it is and has been. These are unpredictable times and it doesn't hurt to have a place that's always going to feel familiar. We watched the workers be nice to everyone else though. The old lady took my order and acted like asking for ketchup was a problem. She was aside "BRUSHING HER HAIR" with absolutely no regard to the fact the her hair might winde up in someones food!!! The mgr was there and HAD NO concern either!!! I cancelled my order as I was about to vomit just thinking on what might be in our hot dogs. A few yrs ago I ran into someone in an establishment who said they go there often, I asked if that woman still brushes her hair freely at the restaurant and they said YES! How absolutely DISCUSSIN!!! My buddy and I were introduced to Casper's as we were chatting with a neighbor. She was raving about how delicious it is and cheap! Well that sealed the deal and we knew we had to make the trek over. The place itself has character. Old school, friendly neighborhood kind of character. That was boosted by the fact there were 3 super friendly ladies helping us with our order. We each got a Casper dog with "the works" which consisted of mustard, relish, raw onion and sliced tomatoes. We promptly devoured them. If it wasn't 2:30pm I probably would've gone for a 2nd.
