Good seafood spot in middle of Playa Del Carmen that specializes in shellfish...hence the name Nice dining room downstairs in addition to another upstairs that has a good view of the street below. Drinks were pretty good but not amazing. Lobster risotto had great tasting/plenty of lobster, but the flavoring of the sauce was a bit off. The shrimp fajitas were incredible and came with side of crema, guacamole, grilled onions, and fresh handmade tortillas with plenty of fresh grilled shrimp to build to your fajita loving delight. Frozen lobster tail goes against my fresh dogmatic views. But heck their thermadore was cooked perfectly with wine sauce. Lobster was a bit chewy and hard likely reflects the frozen & size. Frozen is the only ding I would comment. Go to any good Chinese in SF and it's all live lobster and taste much more succulent. Came here to have my birthday meal on Monday I wanted something fancy and this place hit the theme all across. After trying various different foods in Mexico I wanted seafood. I was skeptical about coming here since I saw a review about somebody getting "food poisoning" but I'm glad I ventured out to try it. This place is very fancy and kinda low key you have to pay attention or you'll walk right by; first off lets start with they're BIG ASS menu lol the menu was so big he had so stand it on the chair. The prices here were very reasonable which surprised me for the size lobsters u can get. I order a medium lobster tail broiled which was 389 pesos which converted to 26 USD that included baked potato, vegetables, bread and a delicious a cilantro parsley churri sauce I just wished the lobster had more garlic broiled flavor that I'm used to but the meal was still enjoyable. read more

WOW TUNA TOSTADAS. Best thing I've had in a long time. I would come back just to order 4 plates of these. The explosion of flavour was amazing and the crunch was a nice touch. Nothing to complain about but also not as wow'd. I dipped the lobster in a chimichanga sauce which was a nice change from melted butter. The roasted veggies on a skewer was a nice side and honestly, as I'm typing this I'm salivating. To top it off, the service was super attentive. We came right as they opened so it was only us, but don't doubt that the service would be any less if it was busier. Also following another yelp suggestion I tried the pina colada. My boyfriend and I came here a few nights ago in hopes of having a nice dinner. The service decent, and they are in the center of downtown. We ordered mussels as a starter, and picked out our preferred lobster for dinner. The lobsters were presented in plastic wrap on ice, not in a fresh tank as expected. Putting that aside we continued with our dining. Mussels came, lobster came and we enjoyed our experience for the time being. Until that night, we both had shivers and stomach issues. Best restaurant in Playa Del Carmen! If you are looking for a nice place with amazing food, look no further! My girlfriend and I made a reservation about 3 hours ahead for 7PM and were seated immediately when we arrived. TIP: upstairs is much cooler in temperature for those hot humid nights! Our server was named Marina I believe and she spoke English very well and was very friendly and fast. This place has a very fun vibe with their giant wooden menus... and by giant i mean seriously giant! I sadly don't even remember what steak I ordered as i don't like seafood but i remember it was delicious with a fair price and good portion size. My girlfriend ordered some lobster and a seafood appetizer which I also forget but she loved everything she ordered (maybe we forgot because we ordered too many amazing cocktails here! *TIP: order the blue lagoon!) For the price, I wish the lobster had been fresh. The preperations were good, but nothing can mask the rubbery texture of frozen, over cooked lobster. I mean lobster is in the name of the place! You think they'd have a tank full of the tasty bastards swimming around. The shrimp and queso appetizer was amazing, as was the caprese salad. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy and the mozzerala was just salty enough. Pretty well stocked bar with in country and expat beers. The blue lobster, is such an appropriate name for this restaurant in those beautiful section of Playa Del Carmen. Service at the blue lobster is unquestionably excellent. The hostess was kind and beautiful, The waiters or fast efficient and friendly. But, it's the food that is so amazing. I ordered grilled lobster and a side of pasta not really expecting what I would get. I could've just eaten the side of pasta it was so amazing it really was very good. But now the lobster it was amazing. Lobster is not an easy seafood item to cook. If you cook it too long it gets rubbery and hard and if you cook it too quickly, it becomes gooey. This was the most perfect lobster I have had in a very long time, it was 640 g which is about a pound and a half maybe almost 2 pounds so, it is not easy to cook but it came out perfectly. The prices here are appropriate with the items that you are ordering. They do not gouge you with the prices even though you are in downtown playa. Well, here's the thing: In Cancun for vacation, we read the reviews. Here's the good: The biggest lobster tail I've ever seen. Roughly $90. Here's the mostly good: The lobster tail was somewhat tough as you'd expect for a tail of this size. Here's the bad: Everything else. Had microwaved until tough stale rolls. Had lobster bisque that was literally brown gravy with lobster meat in it. Gross. Sent it back. Incessantly loud techno rap music at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon made us happy to leave. Late dinner on a Friday night. We were seated quickly with no reservations. We both ordered the grilled lobster tail - they let you pick the weight of the lobster - and a few tequilas. The lobster was prepared perfectly, tender and juicy, and 350g each was plenty for us. The service was also really good with the only downside being the location right across from a rowdy bar that was blasting their music. If you're looking for a quiet dinner you may want to choose another spot, but overall we were very satisfied with our meal. Great choice for reasonably priced lobster (~$35/tail). read more

Excellent experience at Blue Lobster! Been souvenir shopping in Playa Del Carmen since 8 am, & I was hot, tired, & hungry. So I started looking for a nice place for lunch. Spotted the Blue Lobster, & as I was gazing at the menu sign out front, a very friendly waitress came out to speak with me. It was just 10:40 am, so I asked if they were open for lunch, she said no, not until 11 am. Then she said to wait, & she'd speak to the chef. A minute later, she returned, told me to take a seat, that they'd open early just for me! WOW! Just what I needed: a comfy chair in a shady spot, a cool drink, & then the most delicious lobster I've ever eaten. It was simply broiled & served with a garlic butter sauce, also chimichurri. So tender & savory, such a huge portion for the price; I ate every bite! Also loved the loaded baked tater & the fresh veggies skewered on a stem of rosemary. Absolutely incredible meal! So special, I went back a week later, just to have the same meal all over again. I can not wait to return to PDC & enjoy more seafood at this terrific restaurant. We went to the blue lobster for our last night in playa del Carmen for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. This is a town where you can't swing a cat without hitting 50 restaurants so it's pretty tough to find a decent place to eat. Nice spot, just off the Avenida, great for people watching, I had the lobster pasta. The noodles were perfectly Al dente, The lobster was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was excellent. read more

IThe restaurant has a very sailor and boat house style. Our server, Geyler, was super friendly. He helped us order the most popular items on the menu. We got fried calamari which was really good. Ahi tuna poke which was OK. Lobster pasta was alright, but kind of bland. The risotto was too salty and it had pieces of lobster shell in it. Ahi tuna steak was OK as well. Very good! Lots of lobster sizes and other choices of food to eat. I ordered a nice sized lobster (grilled) and my daughter ordered the filet mignon and lobster. Both were very good! The fried calamari rings were not very good. They seemed to be frozen and not homemade. The side items were small. Tiny baked potatoe and skewered vegetables. My drink was decent. It could have had a tad more alcohol. I barely tasted any. Also, I was not offered another drink until after I finished my meal. Thank God we ordered a bottled water. Amazing lobster broiled to perfection! I was really bummed because I wanted a larger lobster tail than I'm used to, but my only options were 610 grams and 980 grams! If I came with a starving appetite or if my boyfriend shared the same love for seafood with me, then I would've gone for it, but instead opted for my only other option, a 100 gram tail. We got the steak and lobster plate, a bowl of clam chowder, and the guacamole. All were exceptional. For drinks, it was 2x1 so I got 2 piña coladas and he got 2 coronas.
