We've made Castello's our main source of pizza experiences since forever. They probably have us flagged in their system. Anyway their pizza is fantastic- it's about the dough they use for their crust. I'd argue that the crust is sometimes my favorite part of the pizza. I've moved on to their pizza rolls item- 7 big rolls of cheese and pepperoni with marinara on the side. It's basically a pizza on its own! I like it so much because like I said- the dough they use top notch. They also have all sorts of pasta, salads, and some desserts too. Also this pizza burrito thing I still need to try. I tell everyone this is my favorite Italian restaurant because it is. Their food is amazing and SOOOO tasty and reasonably priced. They have a huge variety of different pastas and pizzas, all of which are very good. I've never had a bad thing here. The little side salads are always fresh and prepped when you order, not premade. The same with everything else. Fresh = fantastic The staff are always very nice when you go in. It really feels like a family business and that you are welcome as a customer. The inside is a cute little place that they have recently repainted and decorated. It feels very cozy despite not having a lot of room inside to sit and eat. If you do stay to eat, they are always very polite and welcoming. The parking lot is tiny and can be occasionally tricky to find a spot in, which isn't the restaurants fault at all and is really my only complaint. The Castello Penne was pretty good although nothing amazing. Their pink sauce is good and chicken was cubed a little small but not an issue. The noodles seemed to be pre bought/ packaged and not fresh. The service is chill. There are 5 4 tops and 1 6 top inside the restaurant with no outdoor seating. I hate to say it but Castello's quality has really gone down hill. I used to really enjoy their pizza, but my experiences have been more and more disappointing. Last night's order was the last time we will ever order. Our pizza arrived twenty minutes late, which is understandable on a Friday night, but especially shocking when it used to arrive consistently twenty minutes early. The worst part of the experience is that the pizza didn't have sauce! How do you forget sauce on a cheese pizza? Actually, I shouldn't say it had no sauce. There was one single piece that had some sauce near the crust, but tasting that piece I was almost glad it was lacking elsewhere. The sauce tasted artificial and not at all like it used to. Castello's is a local place in Columbia City. They have a large menu of Italian food classics. The food is always hot and well prepared. We usually add some spices to it. There was a lot of praise coming from a family member about how good the pizza was, so my expectations were pretty high. We orderes a margherita pizza and a meat lovers pizza. To be honest, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but if I'm being real here, the pizza was just alright. It wasn't anything special or mind boggling, it was just... alright. The pizza crust and dough on the other hand was pretty good though! I loved the pillowy texture and softness of the crust. The crust of a pizza could also be a make-or-break for a pizza, and even though the crust was pretty good, it couldn't really make up for the whol pizza itself. I just feel like the pizza was bland, and the sauce was pretty sweet, which isn't a big deal for me but it just wasn't it for me. We did also get a really nice salad though. There was a perfect amount of dressing on the salad, plus it was very flavorful. I forgot what salad it was but the whole time I was eating it I was thinking, "Man, some capers on this salad would make it even better!" Anyways, it was a solid and very refreshing salad. Overall, for me, it didn't live up to the hype that was given to me. It was just alright. Every time I order a salad from here, it's fresh! The lettuce is always crisp and green. They should work on consistency with their salads. I'm posting two photos from different days. What happened to Castello's? They used to have a garlic cheese bread made out of pizza dough, now they give you half a slice of French Bread. I just ordered the garlic knots and there was zero garlic. The knots used to come with butter, visible chunks of garlic and parmesan. These tasted like quick bread rather than a yeast based pizza dough. When I asked about it they argued with me that this is how they were always made. Not true at all. read more
