Recently re-visited the Castile restaurant at the Hotel Zamora with my wife and daughter . We had a very nice time . We enjoyed the meatballs and risotto balls from the new tapas menu . Our waiter made excellent suggestions and provided friendly and prompt service throughout the evening . Menu was a little limited, we hope they will expand their menu soon . We came to the Hotel Zamora for the 4th of July and decided to try Castile for dinner. The food, atmosphere and service were all very good. We had the Caesar Salad and Side Salad to start with, and I enjoyed both very much (my wife didn't like the dressing on the side salad, so I are both ). My wife is sensitive to gluten and the waiter brought us Gluten-Free bread and my wife was quite happy with it. We had the Charcuterie board, which was a bit too pricey for the dish, but it was good and large enough to fill up a couple of us. We then had two tapas, which were both great: the Shrimp Al Ajillo and the Asparagus Cappuccino. The shrimp was amazingly good and the Asparagus Cappuccino was a bit rich, but very tasty and definitely worth trying at least once (think of it like a chowder, served in a cup and eaten with a spoon. I found it to be better when drizzled on the garlic bread from the shrimp dish). My wife had the Branzino fish, which was excellent and very beautiful. We finished off with the White Chocolate Cheesecake, which was very yummy (tasted more like a mound of white chocolate than cheesecake). Overall, it was pricey, but very good and worth it on special occasions. (Note: we are told that this restaurant was switched to new management and a different chef in 2016, so any reviews older than that may not be valid/fair. We arrived for our reservation for dinner tonight with high expectations. About one month ago our experience was less than pleasant. However the executive chef visited our table and encouraged us to come back for a second visit and promised he would make our experience delightful. We arrive tonight, with friends in from out of town accompanying us to have that experience. Sadly we were completely disappointed. One of our friends ordered the lamb chops to be cooked as medium rare. They arrived bordering on well done and we sent them back. When they returned, they were more medium well than medium rare. Still not acceptable but still so hungry that he ate them anyway. Two of our other guests ordered the black grouper with the polenta. The grouper arrive dry and the polenta very rubbery. I myself order the vegan paella. And while it was edible, there was no seasoning or flavor whatsoever. It's been most disappointing experience, especially since this couple is very important to us and we were hoping to have a special night. Fabulous restaurant, bar and menu located in the hotel Zamora on St Pete beach. Greeted immediately by the host, we had a reservation but arrived early to have a drink at the bar. The host just told us to just let him know when we were ready for our table and that there was no rush. The bar menu was wonderful with a great wine selection. They had several versions of old fashioned that were very tasty. The bartender was friendly and attentive. We were seated at the table, they have inside and outside seating but it was too chilly this evening to sit outside but the view from the patio is beautiful of the intercoastal. They also have a rooftop 360 bar upstairs as well. We started with the mussels- Pernod lemon butter, tomato, basil, shaved garlic, grilled french bread. Absolutely delicious. For our entrees we had the paella valenciana-saffron valencia rice, octopus, Argentinian shrimp, cuttlefish, squid ink, PEI mussels, little neck clams, roasted red peppers, english peas, pea tendrils, roasted garlic aioli. Great flavor and full of seafood. I had one of the best dishes ever! Jumbo diver Scallops - crab risotto, grilled asparagus, key lime emulsion. Wow. The flavor of the scallops with the crab risotto was heavenly. The key lime emulsion added a great citrus flavor that didn't overpower the dish. Still thinking about that dish! For dessert we had the caramelized vanilla bean cheesecake with macerated red berries and berry sorbet. It was fantastic. Our server Kyle was wonderful, gave great recommendations and was very attentive. He let us know they recently revamped the menu and what an amazing job they did. I love this restaurant and will definitely be back to try many of the other items on the menu and enjoy the beautiful views outside on a warmer evening. To start off, this review is based solely off the service and the information provided by the restaurant. Unfortunately due to the misinformation by the restaurant, we did not choose to dine here. Initially, I was looking to book a reservation through Open Table. After not initially seeing a price for the Father's Day Brunch Buffet, I chose to call to inquire about the price. I was told the price for the Buffet was $35 per person. After hearing this, I went to book the reservation through Open Table. Once I got through the selection, a screen popped up showing that the price of the Buffet was $85 per person. Based on my previous phone call, my husband called to clarify and confirm. The person that answered the phone insisted that the price was only $35 per person, and Ben after after being to her attention the difference in price listed on Open Table. She again insisted and promised the price of the Father's Day Brunch Buffet was only $35 per person. So we decided to book the reservation and drive 30 miles to the restaurant. Upon arriving, the only option was to valet. No problem. Walking up to the restaurant, there is a giant sign displaying that the price of the Brunch Buffet is $85 per person. Shocked, we walk into the restaurant again, to ask what the price of the Buffet is. The Hostess says it's $85 per person. After questioning her based one what we were told, the Hostess tells us that the evening workers really don't know what is going on with Brunch, and really, they didn't even know themselves what the price would be until the evening before, so what were we're told (twice) was wrong. We decide just to leave and go back downstairs to get our car from Valet. Even the valet driver was surprised we were leaving so soon and asked what the reason was. I simply stated that we were misinformed and decided it wasn't right for us. After going and getting our car, the valet driver pried to ask exactly what happened in which I reiterated the story told above. He apologized profusely and also stated that he could not understand why, as the sign in the lobby had been up the entire last week. Overall just disappointed in the service and lack of communication. Honestly the only reason I am leaving 2 stars is because of the valet driver who honestly was nice, personable, and overall the only person concerned with the service they were providing not only at this restaurant but at this hotel. read more

We came here for my mothers birthday. She flew in town as well as her sister; so my hopes were high. Castile restaurant did not disappoint! The seating for our reservation was prompt, there were only three of us but they placed us at a larger corner table that was had a nice view of the water. Even though it was evening it was nice. Our server was slow to arrive but until then we were well informed. It appeared she had something going on closing out a prior table adjacent to ours. But, once Ms Ivy showed up she was perfect. She was attentive and nice. Nothing went unnoticed, we had correct plates and utensils for every course. And used plates were removed in an adequate amount of time. Her recommendation s were excellent. We had the cauliflower and lamb lollipops for tapas. - OMG! My aunt who is hard to please said that was the best cauliflower she ever had. I will say the same for the lamb lollipops. They were cooked to perfection. Next up dinner, I have the filet, my mom had the shirt steak and my aunt had the short rib. All cooked perfectly. Finally dessert, please get the mini doughnut things, you will be glad you did. I am not a huge dessert person but these won me over. You get a good amount and three dipping sauces; the salted caramel one is yum. We tried this place based on finding it via TravelZoo, so the icing on the cake was how nice they were about letting us take the 4th meal to go. Our 4th person on the voucher fought the flu and could not make it. On the way out we met the owners and the head chef...also pretty excellent. I will be back to try more food.i read more

We had the best experience at Castile. Recommended by a local Uber driver, we tried it out with a party of 9, and only called the night before for a reservation. They were more than accommodating . We got there early and had cocktails on their gorgeous rooftop bar over looking the city of st Pete. We then got seated outside, over looking the intercostal at sunset. the waitress Dana was great, and we all absolutely enjoyed our food - the portions were fabulous for the value. Two of us ordered the filet with asparagus on the side and were highly disappointed. It's hard to mess up a steak but there was little to no flavor. Same with the asparagus. We've been here several times and never had a meal that wasn't superb. On our most recent visit -- our anniversary -- our server, Kyle, went above and beyond to make the night wonderful. I'm celiac, and Kyle thought the appetizer we ordered, although labeled gluten-free on the menu, had gluten in it. He checked withe the chef and turns out Kyle was right, saving me about a week's worth of unpleasantness. The food is always exquisite and the atmosphere is lovely. The only change I would make is to get rid of the u-shaped booths that no one can really sit in comfortably, but with everything right with Castile I wouldn't ding them for that. We were given a choice of seating, and we chose the booth, but when we asked to move (really not comfortable) it wasn't a problem. There was a wedding reception on the outside deck and somehow the noise wasn't noticeable at all. Thank you, Kyle and Castile for another fantastic experience. read more

Stopped by this place for a drink at the rooftop bar. Even though their website showed as open it was closed on a Thursday night. Went to the Castille restaurant inside the hotel and sat at the bar for almost 15 minutes and ended up leaving as the 4 bar staff never even acknowledged us. Seriously the most absurd policy I've encountered at a restaurant. The kitchen is on the second floor , we went to the rooftop and they had a tapas menu but decided to go to the second floor since some people wanted other options. They refuse to serve us the tapas because they just didn't want to. It was a Wednesday so how hard would it have been to serve a couple tapas items. They have a heavy seafood menu and I don't eat seafood hence the reason I wanted a couple items from the tapas menu. Our friends ordered a couple dinner items that took a really long time for them to recieve their food. As it seems service, may be an issue. Earlier in the night, I ordered wine and in order to get a bottle of wine, you have to order it from the 2nd floor and take it upstairs. It actually took 20 minutes to get my bottle of wine, my friends thought I left because it took so long. I thought this place would be my new place to go but my first experience was something to be desired. read more

Just a note; my review below is specific to two people dining. I've had a very bad experience with a pre-scheduled group dining event (~13 people) from a service perspective, with the manager attributing it to not having a fixed menu. Umm, the restaurant's capacity is certainly greater than 13 people, so my party of 13 ordering off the regular menu shouldn't result in poor service any more than it should for six parties of two that show up around the same time. We'll start with the food; I've found most of their menu to be above average to excellent, or, if you put it only in the perspective of restaurants on St Pete Beach, the entire menu is excellent as St Pete Beach is definitely lacking when it comes to higher end food options like Castile. The only other places on St Pete Beach that I hold in similarly high regard for food quality and originality are Snappers, 1200 Chophouse, Mad Fish (these three are owned by the same person) and Maritana Grille at the Don Cesar. The two menu items my wife and I find ourselves ordering again and again are the Seared Diver Scallops and the Yellow Fin Tuna; both are excellent every single visit. You may think to yourself, scallops for a meal? It works; their scallops are massive as you'll see in my pictures. They will definitely fill you up. The tuna is also a very hearty portion and has always been cooked perfectly. We've had the roast chicken, short rib, grouper, tenderloin and crab cakes as well; all were great. Have not ventured past those seven entrees so I can't comment on the others. I've also had the arugula salad; it's pretty tasty, but $14 for a three ingredient salad starts to hit one of my pain points, and that's actually a good segue into the explanation of why they get three stars from me instead of four or five. Two reasons; price and ambiance, considered together not independently. The prices of most things I feel are just too high for the total package; it's as simple as that. They charge more than Berns in Tampa for their tenderloin for example, and Castile is not Berns if we're talking the steaks themselves (I dislike many other facets of Berns). I like the filet from 1200 Chophouse down the street more, and it's $10 less. Oysters? $15 for six that aren't particularly large. The rest of the menu is similar, from their $12+ salads to the liquor drinks that are $10+ even for simple things like Bacardi & coke. Now I don't typically hold pricing against a place; if I don't feel the prices are reasonable, I simply won't visit very often, but I'd still rate it high. However, part of a venue's price should factor into the ambiance. Castile charges high prices but lacks any truly upscale features. It has an outdoor view, but it's just of a small intracoastal channel and the backs of some houses, facing east, so no sunset. The decor is nice enough, but doesn't really stand out as unique in any way. The iron chandeliers that adorn the dining room always seem to have bulbs burnt out. To top it all off though, on one visit, as my wife and I were having a nice dinner and looking out the window, a hotel guest comes up from outside, opens the door and walks through the dining room wearing just dripping wet swim trunks and flip flops. Let's just say that when I'm having a romantic dinner that will likely cost me $150+ after food and drinks, I don't expect wet shirtless gentlemen to go walking past. So, there's some rough edges still, but the food is very very good and they seem to be putting an honest effort into improving. If the prices were even just 10% lower, I'd consider them appropriate given the food quality and ambiance, but for now, we tend to spend our high end dining nights mostly at other places. Adding a 2015 edit to this review. Hotel Zamora, and thus Castille, have converted to a mandatory valet parking setup. I have quite a few reasons for not liking mandatory valet, some which prohibit its use completely. We live within walking distance, so it can be avoided, but I know some people feel the same way so figured it was important to include in the review. read more

The menu at Castile was created by Chef Ted Dorsey. He left Castile in early May to work on opening The Mill Restaurant in DTSP. Chef Ted is not only a culinary genius, but from our experiences at both restaurants, he's demonstrated that he is also excellent at training kitchen staff on how to stay true to his delectable creations. Even though Chef Ted was already gone from Castile, the food still had his Midas Touch. We were also happy to be welcomed by Angela Bose Meeker, formerly of The Birchwood. If I could rate food, experience and ambiance separately there would be different ratings, BUT, because of all the hype about this place and our experience of having drinks, dinner, and breakfast here, I'm sticking with a solid 2 stars. First: dinner. We ordered drinks and the Brazilian was delicious, it took a while to get to us and it was 5pm with no one in the restaurant. Our waitress was odd and awkward, not knowing how to leave a conversation or when to walk away. She was pleasant but seemed inexperienced. We ordered the calamari, and THAT would get 5 stars, it was delicious with an odd mixture of flavors that complimented each other perfectly. It was almost refreshing tasting. Once the waitress went over the specials, my husband knew he wanted the soup of the day which was a coconut curry soup. I ordered the yellowfin tuna. At this point, the waitress already told us a couple things on the menu that were unavailable, leaving us without an explanation. We overheard another waiter explaining it was because of the harsh winter in the north east effecting the availability. When our food came out, the waitress had a different soup for my husband, lobster chowder, saying she was mistaken with the soup of the day and hoped this would be an acceptable replacement. We elected to take it as my entree was now at the table. I liked the tuna a lot, though my husband thought it was bland. It came with a mixture of chopped fruits as a salsa. It was a smaller plate, but I enjoyed it. Neither of us liked the lobster chowder, it didn't taste like there was any lobster in it and it was bland. It was obviously extremely different from the coconut curry soup he thought he was getting. We stayed for almost 2 hours and saw our waitress only a few times. We got 2 drinks and had to ask for them each time. We would have had more had we been offered in an appropriate time frame. Overall, the food was good, just not great; the service was ok, but the environment is beautiful. We are staying at the hotel, so after going to a show we came back and sat at the bar. We sat down at 10:15 and they close at 11. When we sat down a waiter came by and collected all the menus off the bar. By 10:30 it was apparent they were trying to clear out and go home. We asked to see a dessert menu, ordered the Jumbo Choco Taco, then several minutes later were told they had just sold the last one. That made the third thing in one evening that was unavailable off the menu. The next morning we had breakfast here. We had a different waitress who was very sweet with a youthful awkwardness and a glowing personality. We really enjoyed talking with her throughout the morning! I ordered the Castile Parfait and my husband got the Castile Omelette. They each had a beautiful presentation. The Parfait had a lovely mixture of yogurt, cream fruit and pickled papaya; however, I discovered a layer of candied nuts on the first bite, an ingredient not listed on the menu. I'm extremely allergic to tree nuts and peanuts (especially walnuts). I was able to spoon the nuts out onto a napkin but was left with a slightly swollen and itchy mouth. This was highly disappointing. The Castile Omelette was pretty standard but with some fancier ingredients and we would definitely recommend to anyone that prefers a savory breakfast option. Overall Castile has a wonderful design with very classy ambiance and an intriguing menu. At just under a year old, the restaraunt feels like it's still figuring itself out and stumbled on delivering an experience to fit the price point. I adore this new restaurant. I love the atmosphere inside and out. My first impression was a fancy Vegas restaurant in St. Pete Beach. We sat outside. I always love sitting outside bc I always feel that often times Saturday nights in restaurants sound so loud. Sitting outside, I could listen to some fun upbeat and lounge music and hear less of that background noise. By sitting outside, when it's not too late, you also have a beautiful view of the intercostal water and the boats that can park and eat. From the start, our waitress Lindsey wowed us. She said she was new but studying up on the menu. When u first look at the menu, for some it may be quite fancy, and a bit complicated not knowing what some things were. Lindsey broke down a lot of the menu items so very well. She did amazing. I hate going to a place where the server just repeats what you can read straight from the menu. I ordered the diver scallops and my husband ordered the Harissa grilled culotte steak. My 3 very good sized scallops were served up top corn casserole and some good sized pieces of pancetta. I also got a side of lychee salsa bc I pointed out to Lindsey that it sounded really goody was something they served on the crab cake. My plate was amazing. The culotte steak at first was different. I figured out that my husband usually likes his steak more well, and it was red. It still had good flavor, but he wanted something w that. Lindsey got a sauce from the short rib and it worked out perfectly. The avocado frites(breaded avocado) pieces complemented it wonderfully. Last, we saved the best for last. Everyone kept ordering the jumbo choco taco for dessert. Couldn't figure out if we should jump on the bandwagon! So we did, and it was Heaven. Don't hesitate, just get it! This was an awesome experience and when Gordon Ramsey say the flavors are dancing on my taste buds, their sure were. At the end of all this, don't forget to take the side elevator in the hotel to the roof top bar and relax under the stars, then go downstairs and check out and dip your feet in the pool. Do NOT waste your money.. Bad service an understatement...food is below average..my wifes salad was bag lettuce including the Parmesan packet! Terrible drinks.. first one was the high end tequila we ordered second one was not.. Waitress either brand new and completely inexperience or just completely had no customer service skills. Restaurant was at 1/3 capacity if that, for a Sunday night. Lots of employees and waiters and waitresses running around but service was laughable at best. The dinner at Castile did not disappoint. We were bringing friends from New York to enjoy a nice waterfront dinner in St. Pete. Our server, Marina, was charming and adorable. We almost cancelled having our party for my mom's Birthday at Castile because one of the restaurant manager ( female) was extremely rude during the planning process. We spoke to someone else at the hotel and decided ( with significant apprehension) to go forward with the party in their private dining room. The waiter in charge of our group , Phil, was fantastic. He was "on point" every step of the way. The food was excellent and the service was beyond outstanding. Thanks Phil, you turned lemons into lemonade and bailed out your manager. Great job. read more

Tried this place after seeing a write up in Tampa Metro. It is in Hotel Zamora close to the Don CeSar. Free valet. The lounge area was very nice and modern looking and the restaurant it self was open an airy, very upbeat with live Spanish influenced music on a Friday night. It was dark by the time we got there but there is a view of the water although it is not on the beach side of the street. They have a nice drink menu with a lot drinks made with Acai berry liquor, lychees, etc.. The wine list is not bad either. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server seemed knowledgable and was very helpful as well. The food is damn good. We tried the lobster fires. They suck the meat out of lobster legs and marinate them in bouillabaisse for six hours, lightly bread them and fry them up. Very yummy indeed. I really like their salads, they were very tasty. The entrees again were great. I had grouper cheeks, basically several cheeks from some groupers, pan seared served atop a delicious pickled salad. Apparently cheeks are the best part of the fish as per Andrew Zimmerman and Anthony Bourdain and they certainly were juicy sweet and tender. Cath of the night was black grouper, again cooked nicely and the Divers Sea Scallops were perfect. Good size, tender, sweet, and delicious. They do serve more than fish, there were some beef and chicken and at least one vegetarian choices as well, all looked good by the descriptions. Enjoyed our nice dinner out. Enjoyed the tapas format - think they may be moving away from that. Favorite was the octopus - great sauce and perfectly cooked. Also had the grouper special over homemade gnocchi that was great. We were hoping for a Spanish wine list but none on the list, although we did have a nice wine. All of the dishes were on the cool side but they also had two large private parties so I'm sure the kitchen was very busy. read more

We finally stayed on our 29th wedding anniversary at Hotel Zamora for the first time and the combination of the two made our anniversary one of the most memorable, from the valet staff, the front desk crew to especially the host Alice who we had the pleasure of being in her presence again as a hostess for a party of 5 last evening that she accommodated with such class, grace and genuine kindness! I will continue to patronize and refer others to this amazing establishment and so appreciate the service and welcoming kindness you all display to EVERYONE without prejudice and this means everything To us!!! read more

Came to Castile for dinner while on vacation with my wife. Looked at the menu ahead of time and it looked pretty good so we made a reservation for 6:45pm. Arrived at 6:30 and was seated immediately by a nice hostess. (at this point there were only 2 other tables with patrons) A few minutes later our waitress finally arrives. Food was average at best. There was nothing that I would consider exceptional for the price, like the $17 crab cake. As I'm writing this it's been 30 minutes and we are still waiting for the bill. There are still a lot of empty tables so I'm pretty sure the waitress just forgot about us. I would definitely not recommend and I will not be back. I would've been happier going to Chick-fil-A down the street. read more

Terrible. Came here as a recommendation and couldn't believe it's someone's favorite place. The server looked very sloppy, he had an unbuttoned shirt, long sloppy dirty hair, and had no idea about how the paella was cooked. He said the paella would be only a few minutes. When the paella arrived, it was way too salty and it had waaay too many escargots and not too much seafood. I had a cauliflower appetizer than was just bland cauliflower. For the price, all this is unacceptable. Oh, and we had to pay for valey parking, it was the only option. The rooftop is nice, but the restaurant is not worth it. Go somewhere else. read more

I'll start off by saying I am an avid seafood lover. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was not good. There were about 3 pieces of lobster and it was dark brown in color and had an unusual taste. Every other lobster bisque I've had was a light orange cream color and delicious, this one not so much. As for the restaurant itself which is inside the hotel at which we stayed (Zamora). It was beautiful but poorly managed. Menu was limited to dishes and ingredients we couldn't even pronounce. Drinks were highly "herbed" leaving a bitter taste in your mouth. I ordered the Never Been Berried and it tasted like liquid rosemary (the herb!) Our server was constantly apologizing, for neglecting us and took 20 minutes to serve our first round. We were so disappointed in this restaurant and overheard other patrons complaining about the inadequate service as well. read more
