We stayed at the Zamora, so I had breakfast at the Castile one day. Surprisingly, the restaurant doesn't open until 8 am. The breakfast menu is pretty limited. I chose the eggwhite omelet, something I rarely eat. It was quite good with feta, tomatoes, and onions (a bit too many onions). The side of potatoes were just perfect and really good with the bits of feta. Service was good and attentive. The day before I tried lunch but found nothing I wanted. My 3rd visit to this restaurant. The first time it was 5 stars. Everything perfect. The 2nd time 2.5 stars, see my previous review. This time a very generous 1 star. The Castile is located inside the Zamora Hotel on St. Pete Beach. Most tables have a nice view of the Intracoastal waterway. The service was o.k., not spectacular, but mediocre. We ordered a new menu item, calamari. It arrived to our table as a giant glob, over breaded and extremely over cooked. It was hard as leather, barely palatable. The server should of been embarrassed to of brought this to the table. I asked the server to take the order back to the chef and ask him to try it, a new order arrived shortly after. Ill attach 2 photos of the 1st order and the 2nd order of calamari for comparison. The 2nd order was slightly better, but, had one cluster of calamari that had uncooked batter. Uggg!!! Horrible!!!. The sauce that came out with the 2nd order had a totally different sauce than the 1st order, really?? Calamari is one of the easiest dishes to cook, this was an epic fail. Next course was a Ceasar salad. Presentation was great, however the Romaine lettuce was room temperature and limp. Another disappointment. The anchovie was presented on a small piece of bread, again, great presentation, but a total fail as the anchovie was dry and hard, barely able to cut with a knife, Ill post a photo as well. My wife ordered fish that arrived in a clear broth. I must say the order seemed small, and was dry. I ordered the lamb chops with a side of wild mushrooms. Both arrived hot. If you could eat with your eyes, this looked great. Wrong again! Both were doused with SALT! Barely edible. The lamb was ordered medium, they came out well done. Too bad, a waste of a nice rack of lamb. They should serve a side of high blood pressure meds to counter act the sodium content. I heard the table of 4 behind our table complain about too much salt as well. Total tab with tip, about $145. The dessert looked like doughnut holes. We took those to go. We went to the roof top bar to watch the sunset. Spectacular view of St. Pete Beach. We were not approached or asked one time if we wanted a drink. Other people who were there with us also complained about not getting service as well. People asked about the restaurant, I told them I would not recommend to go there. A worker asked about our experience, and stated they have changed chefs a few times. I would not recommend this place at this time. It is expensive, and the food was terrible. Go to Skidders, better food for half the price. Better for hotel guests and out of state visitors who do not know better, not for locals. read more

Visited this restaurant for a friends birthday, we ordered an array of tapas. The Spanish meatballs were by far our favorite. We had some great wine and the best espresso martinis. Our server Dylan was definitely the highlight of our night. He was great at recommendations and sharing some stories with us, we greatly appreciated his hospitality. Went in tonight for dinner. We were seated outside and after 25 minutes no one came to talk to us. We told a server and she came to take our orders. About 15 minutes later still nothing. We had to leave. It was terrible. This is also my first ever negative review on yelp. The restaurant took the time to reach out to me and attempt to make it right. The fact that they took ownership means I will give the place another chance. In town staying here and decided to skip the waits of the spots on the boulevard and had dinner here. Truffle fries were amazing and they did put everything on my burger which I had requested plain but they fixed it immediately and it was amazing. My girlfriends salmon was amazing as well, but they service was what stood out. This place has really turned the corner with a new chef in the kitchen. Many of the old reviews took place prior to this change. I stayed at the kimpton where this restaurant is located. The braised pear salad was very tasty and the soft shell crab appetizer was just excellent. I also had the shortrib on my second visit and it was just so tender! The view inside the restaurant overlooks the bay. Be sure to check out the rooftop bar with gorgeous views of the gulf coast, especially during sunset. Valet is available. read more

Castile restaurant is located in the Kimpton Hotel...don't let this throw you off! If you have ever been here before, forget what you thought you knew about the food here! We went in on the first day of a new menu. They have a new Chef who is going to rock this place to the core. We requested chef choice and he did not disappoint! From the initial Tuna poke with the chef's sauces to the Roast Magret atop risotto, we were blown away! The entire meal was a gustatory renaissance! This chef will do great things for this restaurant. I hope the word gets out and he and the restaurant get the attention they deserve. I am not very eloquent when it comes to describing food. Service was terrible and waiter was incompetent and couldn't answer any basic questions. Food order was not taken correctly. Food was tasteless and bland. Request to delete horseradish sauce on burger was ignored and thus inedible. McD burger is much better than their $17 burger. Salmon dish was OK. Others were terrible. We stayed here at the Zamora and thought we'd give it a shot. Menu wasn't great. Drinks weren't great. I'm not sure what people raves about. We basically threw $100 away. We won't be back and weren't impressed. Our waiter was super nice though. He tried to make it better for us. I ordered the catch of the day not was pan seared grouper and they poured sweet potato purée around it. That really ruined the dish to be honest. Husband ordered the half chicken. The food is is fantastic. I had the lamb chops and they were cooked perfectly. I didn't go here eat rosier because I was worried about the parking but they offer free valet if you are dining there! Not having to worry about tourists trying to park their rental cars is def a perk. We also loved the bread they served with dinner. The only compliant was it took a long time to get the check. Then when I gave the waiter $50 to pay for mY $30 bill he didn't give me change. I had to ask him several times for change and when I did get change it was the wrong amount. Our visit for lunch started off on a bit of the wrong foot when the manager asked if we wanted to eat indoors. Normally this is a perfectly standard question, but there was a crew PAINTING the dining room during lunch. Why would they even have the dining room open while it undergoes repainting? Odd...and it illustrates a complete disconnect between the manager and the guests. We continued to the wonderful patio...selected various dishes from the sparse lunch menu. The nice-looking charcuterie platter appetizer came with a side of plastic wrap attached to one of the slices of meat. My fellow diner got the lobster grilled cheese sandwich and a side salad. They served her sandwich on a giant plate with the two lonely, wee sandwich halves tossed upon it. This is a SIXTEEN dollar grilled cheese sandwich, for chrissakes at least plate the damn thing like a 16 dollar sandwich (I'm looking at you, prep cook who I assume fills in for the chef at lunch). FYI - the sandwich was just barely passable, but in no way even close to a 16 dollar sandwich considering all sides are extra. This is maybe a 6.95 sandwich anywhere else. All I could taste was the butter it was fried in. Probably more like a 2.5 star experience, but the view was nice and I did not pay for my meal...and it's the holiday season! read more

Beautiful restaurant overlooking the intercoastal in The Hotel Zamora. The food was superb and very nicely presented. The staff however, could have used more polishing. My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner and our server Ivy was the exception. She was professional, knowledgeable, and a delight to be served by. A man came over to check on us and I assume he was the manager but he was wearing a wrinkled polo and had his keys bouncing from his waist. He must've had a key to every room in the hotel and they were clinking together and making an awful noise in an otherwise quiet and serene dining room. Also, the kitchen was very open to the dining room and I heard every, single personal conversation between the staff. One of the chefs decided he wanted a shot and preceded to take it in the middle of the kitchen. I heard him request the liquor and then watched him take it as well. If you are going to present yourself as a fine dining restaurant, the staff need to understand that they don't want to hear a background of laughing about plans later that night or shots being taken in the middle of the kitchen. Came here on a Saturday night to have drinks at the rooftop bar and dinner. Rooftop view was beautiful and the drinks were really good. We sat out on the balcony for dinner and had probably one of the top 3 meals I've ever had in my life. The charcuterie board was delicious and the fried beef rinds were a welcome surprise. Fluffy and flavorful. I had the aged dry rub steak. Every bite melted in my mouth. I thought I picked the best plate until I tried the pork belly which set off an inner conflict of what I wanted to eat most....1st word problems.... The waitress was super nice and knowledgeable and the chef was on his A game. It wasn't cheap but I would say we got a bargain for the experience. Will definitely go again. read more

I visited Castile Restaurant last night for the first time and really enjoyed my experience. Castile has a focus on Spanish architecture and cuisine and the tapas are excellent! The rooftop bar looks interesting, but is currently under construction and not open just yet. My first impression of Hotel Zamora where Castile is located was Latin music playing in the valet lobby leading to the elevator which was a nice touch. I started off with some cocktails of which my favorite was Acai Caipirinha ($12): Leblon Cachaca, Cedilia Acai Liquor, fresh lime, mix berries, simple syrup, mix fresh berries . Not over-priced for an imported favorite drink - the berries were delicious in this drink. The Hot Mama ($11) was a runner-up with Partida Blanco Tequila, fresh limes, Agave Nectar, cucumber, jalapeno and cilantro served in a martini glass. Off the tapas menu I LOVE the Smoked Crispy Chicharrons ($12) which are Castile Cured and Smoked with Tamarind Gastrique and Jicama Habanero Pina Slaw. The portions of the tapas are big enough to share (as they should be) and the chicharrons have a natural flavor that is great with either the sides or just straight up in your mouth. Another top tapa is the Maine Lobster Ajillo ($11) which comes with Spanish Smoked Paprika, Garlic, Chablis, Sweet Onions, Serrano Peppers, and Grilled Focaccia. This dish has such a great taste, I could have it for days and not get sick of it. I highly recommend it. Another tapa I recommend that I don't see listed on the full-menu is their cheese and fruit plate. The dish as a whole would be great for a night filled with wine and cocktails. For dinner I had the soup of the day which was a red-roasted pepper soup, Oak Grilled Tenderloin ($35) which is Meyers Prime, White Asparagus, Cilantro Gremolata, Crispy Shallots, and Malbec Jus. For dessert a coconut mango pano cotta. Dinner service was excellent and beats marks of other hotel restaurants for sure. My favorite was the tapas though and I would definitely spend a night at Castile with friends or family and take on the entire tapa menu with some cocktails and wine! The cocktail menu was crafted well and the dishes tasted authentic and filled with flavor. I will definitely return to Castile soon! read more

Rubbish. We were staying at the Don Cesar and we were shocked by the price of their New Year's Eve dinner. Since we had eight people in our party (half were teens), we wanted something a little more affordable, but still nice. Since the Castille had good reviews, and their regular prices were about half of the Don's regular prices we figured it would be a good option. We made our reservation over a month in advance. BIG mistake. This place is a "by-the-seat-of-their-pants, make-it-up-as-we go-along" type place. Décor is very nice, dare I even call it swanky. Our waiter was barely educated on the menu (I think they hired him that day and gave him a quick briefing) and service was sub-par. Here is the part that really made me mad; the regular menu was not available. It had been paired down to lame choices specifically designed to minimize food costs, while maximizing profits. Without notification, we were all charged a $100 per person flat "New Year's Eve" rate. OK - fine. I get that it is a tough night to get reservations, so I am willing to pay a premium, but then I expect excellent food. Boy was I disappointed. Course 1: 0.5 oz square of cheese baked in a panko crust. This was the best bite I had all night - too bad is was miniscule. Course 2: A small bowl of green lettuce with about 0.5 oz of cold shredded duck (or so they say ... could have been turkey). No dressing. Course 3: A shot glass with a frozen dollop of sorbet with champagne poured on it. Course 4: 5 oz of fish salsa - OK, but I could have made this at home. Course 5: Chocolate mousse. Disgusting. I could not choke down a single bite. It had that especially slimy yet rubbery texture that can only be achieved by freezing mousse for the weekend (uncovered) and then using a microwave to thaw it out because one forgot to get it out of the freezer time. This was appalling. Why didn't they just offer their regular menu???? The chef will say it is because they were so busy on New Year's Eve it was the only way to get the food all out in a reasonable time. This is a transparent lie for two reasons: #1 - they had empty tables. #2 - any restaurant that can't handle their own capacity (i.e. being on a wait every Saturday night, all night) has no business being in business. If you can't keep all of your tables turning with your regular menu you don't belong running a restaurant. Being treated this shabbily is offensive. We should have eaten at the Don. We would have paid (slightly) more - but the food would have been fabulous. Lesson learned. read more

I'm not usually a fan of hotel restaurants. This one I would return to in a heartbeat. Beautiful view of the water, no not the ocean, but a lovely wide canal. Started with the Brussels salad, excellent choice, the sprouts were lightly blanched so you didn't feel like they were raw, apple slices,grape halves, apricot pieces (because they are in season) and Marcona almonds, in a very light vinegarette. I happen to love charred octopus, so if I see it on the menu it calls my name. This was not grilled but was seasoned perfectly with chunks of chorizo and a to die for sauce that lightly grazed it and the fingerling potatoes. My husband had the steak & was very happy with it as well. Go late so you can have a wonderful drink at the rooftop bar and watch the sunset, or eat and have a nice after dinner drink at the 360 up top. Just don't miss that amazing sunset on the gulf view before you leave. read more

Came here for a 7:30pm reservation on a Friday night. we wanted to do outdoor patio seating but due to rain we had to be inside. The downside: -SO LOUD. could hardly hear our party -drink wasn't great so had to send it back for another -The roof isn't open for patio service at all (downside because they advertise as having a "rooftop bar") -Did I mention SO LOUD? The good: -mahi mahi special was ver ygood, portion was a perfect size. -server was EXCELLENT. Funny, attentive, and great. New chef, new menu, awesome service and beautiful atmosphere equals the perfect spot for our belated Father's Day celebration! The service was spot on. The food Devine. We started with octopus and prawns as our appetizers. Both we will prepared and yummy. The bread with the chili dipping oil was delicious - just a little kick that kept us going back for more. We all enjoyed the entrees. The filet with red pepper relish was cooked properly and very tender. I don't normally go for chicken but I'm glad I did. Tender chicken over saffron rice surrounded by a harissa sauce. The star was the scallops- yummy sauce with crunchy fried Tasso ham. Our daughter bought us a gift certificate for the restaurant. We'd heard it was good and were anxious to try it. Oh my! The food was amazing, the atmosphere romantic, and the view spectacular. Megan was our waitress and was very cordial and knowledgeable. I had the snapper and my husband had the skirt steak. We had the mussels appetizer and the chocolate terrine for dessert. All the food was so tasty and interesting. Some new flavors in there I'd never had before. We were very pleased with our experience and plan to return sometime to try out appetizers and drinks during happy hour. We went up to check out the rooftop views as well while there and the views were awesome and there was very comfortable seating up there. Even the valets were nice guys. Sat at the bar with Tracy. Had amazing Blackberry sangrias on happy hour and tapas. Tracy was very accommodating because one of us is Vegan, so we had cauliflower with sauce on the side and delicious truffle fries. In the past, Castille has always been hit or miss. Sloppy, uneven service, an endless migration of staff and an overall service disconnect that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I was delighted to hear that Klimpton recently took over the management and was hopeful that good changes would be forthcoming. Went to the bar last night after a very long absence. Was warmly greeted by bartenders Jason and Rich and received charming, efficient and oh so timely service. The food came out cold and not cooked all the way, our drinks where always empty, and we had to go to the bar to get specialty drinks because the waiters don't do that. Ordered a steak and lobster medium steak, came out with a pulse and the lobster had zero flavor and tasted like rubber. With out party 5 steaks where returned for being undercooked and when they where returned they where still undercooked and others food was cold. I strongly suggest new management, staff, and building. I do not recommend this place even to my worse enemy . read more

So unfortunate! This is the nicest looking bar on St Pete Beach. Beautiful bar, great views and the decor is really nicely done. Unfortunately, the bar staff is absolutely terrible. The young girl who bartends during the day is the worst. Horrible attitude, ignores customers, and we literally had to talk her through the process to change a keg...twice! Management should be embarrassed by the poorly skilled bar staff. It really is a shame...beautiful bar and the food is great, if you can get served. I was just at the bar earlier today and watched a couple sit down, not get served for 20 minutes, then get up and leave. I have to say though I am surprised they let people sit at the bar in t shirt and shorts. At a fine dining place I didn't like that. I loved the Peruvian sunset! Elderflower was just amazing! This review is starting as we wait in the lobby for our screwed up reservation. The hostess ignored to acknowledge our group of ten as she returned from a lengthy delay. She answered the phone to discuss seating with the 4 person group that just passed us to stand at the bar and call to arrange seating. (1 star) We ended up at the bar and got unshelfish cocktails {thanks bartenders} (3 stars) for 20+ mins though (2 stars). We finally got seated and waited another 15 mins before we saw our waitress (1 star) It took awhile longer, but when the appetizers arrived, it got quiet; mostly because we were so hungry, but the food was pretty good. Not great, the ceviche crackers were stale (2 stars). ....... Been awhile since the appetizers were gone, wondering if food will be cold. ...... wondering if we should leave. Table next to us stomped off. So finally the manager stops by. Thinking there would be an apology, instead we learn then that the meal three people ordered cannot be served (they are out). Needless to say the birthday boy, who selected this restaurant for the 'Branzino' was distraught. Is there a 0? So the wait continues, we get impatient. We want to watch the fights and we are running out of time. We decide to leave. We cancel the order. The manager finally shows up with an apology. We are over it and decide to move on. At this point the manger was very apologetic and did comp our apps & drinks. We left; and ultimately they took the finacial hit, not us. As we return to the parking lot, I am reminded the valet charged the tesla during our "dinner", so kudos to having charging stations and a valet with experience. (+ 1 star). - side note: I have been here before and it wasn't like this.... understaffing seems to be the root cause. Still... total = 1 star! read more
