Dr. Lum is very fair and kind. He was very good at explaning the exam process to my 10 yr old ADHD son. I like his very clean and effecient treatment exam room. Dr Lum took his time to explain the images made by his state of the art equipment and explained the treatment plan in down to earth terms. Price was up front and reasonable . Located with in Walmart that has an inexspensive optical shop right beside his office. Great for busy parents. I am 40 and started wearing glasses at 5 years old. My 16yo son started wearing glasses at 4 years old. We've seen eye Drs all over the world (prior military family!) so we're well versed with optometrists and ophthalmologists. However - We've been seeing Dr Lum for over 7 years, since we first arrived in San Diego. He's always attentive, considerate, kind and gives us plenty of options and choices of care. Mara was really nice, she let me know they are now open Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday. I've seen Dr. Lum before (2018) and It's nice and convenient. When I order online frames and contacts online, Lum Optometry is pretty responsive to 3rd party sellers online in verifying my current presciption for contacts and eyeglasses. They told me if I get contact lens exam it will automatically include the eyeglass prescription. I was quoted 110$-to $130 depending if I have a Stigmatism. I remember years ago they had a promo when Dr. Joyce Medina was at the office prior to the change. I believe it was 79 or 89$ or 99$ for contact. Depending whether you have a stigmatism the price varies. They also did an extra exam(optional) it was an extra one maybe 20 or 30$ for a more thorough picture of the back of the eye. I think this place has reasonable prices on exams and convenient. Dr. Lum seems to know what he's doing and knowledeable. The people are friendly. I just don't get my eyeglasses next door at walmart, so rude. I rather order online like on eyebuy direct and and or fresh look pinky paradise. I didn't use insurance anyways the rates are fine. Health is wealth so if you can get your eyes checked go for it. I do not recommend buying the glasses there but it's up to you maybe they can fit a good frame on you Since this pandemic, I wasn't sure if they will be open but they are inside the Walmart. I've been wearing glasses and contacts for years. It's nice to have a trusted Optometrist. I recommend him and Dr. Joyce Medina who now has moved into Laser surgery. I was tasked with completing a form for an eye exam... this was the first place I thought I would try not knowing how things would go... but... I was pleasantly surprised! Dr. Lum and his staff did an excellent job completing my eye exam, paperwork and helped me understand a few more things about eyes & their examination. This office is located inside of Wal-Mart, to the right side as you enter the main entrance. Stop by or make an appointment and you will be satisfied. Dr. Lum is great! He explains everything as you go along so you have a better understanding of your eyes as a whole. The price is right too! Usually insurance covers some of the costs, but I found he was the cheapest option with insurance and the best as well! Prescription for progressive was off this year. Unfortunately went somewhere new this year called Lum in Natuonal City. Wasted 3 days on this nonsense. First took glasses back to place I bought frame at. They sent them back to retry repositioning glasses. Tried them for a few weeks and still had trouble with my progressives as the prescription for nearsided is off tok strong maybe. Then had a day off used it to go back to get eye exam done. 3 hours waited for this eye exam revision. Place was empty! Doctor at lunch ! The doctor who did my incorrect exam was off only works Thursday. I simply asked for refund as wait was too long. Denied me have no other day can come back. Anyway lots of wasted time and service is poor. No I'm sorry to hear nothing! Couldn't care less. read more

With my eye exam came one with a camera. I actually got to see my vessels añd possible glaucoma. I felt so relieved to actually see what's going on in a place I had and probably wouldn't have seen until to late. I definitely recommend him. Dr. Lum has been my family's doctor for years. I am generally VERY picky with my health care professionals and was glad to find the eye doctor we can trust. He is very professional and friendly, takes the time to explain everything he is doing, and does not rush through appointments. His appointments are always on time and scheduling is very easy. He is also, one of a very few doctors who provides his email address to the patients and answers the questions we have in between the appointments. Best part is that Dr. Lum is great with kids. My daughter and I chose Dr. Lum because the location was close to home (Office inside of Sears at the Shoppes at Carlsbad) and our eye exams were covered by our insurance (Aetna). My experience was the very best eye visit I have had in my life (35 years of contacts or glasses. Dr. Lum was friendly, thorough and spent time with me. He really focused on the health of my eyes, showed me what he was seeing and talked about what I needed to do to keep them healthy. His focus was way beyond measuring my vision and setting me up for glasses. Both my daughter and I really liked him a lot, and are happy to give him a 5 star rating. I did a walk in because my eyesight has been bothering me for some time now. I was ar walmart and decided to go here, since U walked in the receptionist Roxanne was really nice and helpful. It took me about 45 minutes to get my eyes checked since there was two appointments ahead of me. When I finally met with Dr. Blum he was really nice and respectful. He explained to me really well and thoroughly about my eyes and everything. Definitely will be going to Dr. Blum again. The eye exam is 60 dollars. I also had the opportunity to check the health of my eye which is basically this machine taking pictures of the inside of my eye. Since I am a student I got it for 20 dollars. Dr. Lum took over for the previous Optometrist at the Sears in Carlsbad who had told me that my prescription wasn't bad enough to get LASIK. So I dealt with glasses for another year. When it was time to get e check up Dr. Lum pleasantly saw me and informed me that I could be a fine candidate for LASIK. I took him up on his recommendation and went to NVISION La Jolla. Turns out I was a great candidate for LASIK and got the surgery almost a year ago. For the last 10 months Dr. Lum has treated me like royalty. DR. LUM IS ONE OF A KIND. He is above everyone else and his standard is so high that I cannot even put a comparison between him and other eye doctors. He is simply exceptional! We are new to his office and found him because of very good reviews in yelp. He is the only eye doctor that has perfect score in yelp in our area. When our family went there and met him, I now fully understand why he would get a perfect score. He deserved it! This eye doctor is very knowledgeable, professional and very precise in what he is doing. He is kind and very passionate in his endeavor. I could not put into words how much blessed we are when we consulted him. The case of my daughter is complicated especially our last eye doctor's office is giving us a hard time getting our records. So even without a record, Dr. Lum was able to find a solution that showed his positive character, expertise and would do extra miles for the good of his patient. BONUS/TIP: IN THIS OFFICE, YOU GET THE EYE PRESCRIPTION, AND YOU COULD GO ELSEWHERE TO BUY YOUR PAIR OF EYEGLASSES/CONTACT LENSES. BUT OF COURSE, THEY GIVE YOU TRIAL CONTACT LENSES. They order the CRT Lenses. More often than not, this is where we had a lot of problems and hassles when the office is pushing for an expensive eyeglasses that are beyond our budget. You could check on other eyeglasses store without feeling obligated to buy because you have your own prescription. Dr. Lum is Great! I had problems with my old Doctor and needed new Doctor. I made appointment few days in advance and the receptionists were very kind over the phone. The day of the appointment went to very smooth. Waiting time was short, personal and insurance information quickly recorded. Dr. Lum is the best!! I went in for an eye/contact exam. He was through as I've ever seen. I was having some issues with my contact lenses. The ones I had been using were not very comfortable. I explained my situation to him; and he constantly worked with me ( letting me try different brands) until he found a brand that was more comfortable for me. I have allergies year round and the ones that he chose for me are perfect. They don't move or slide as the other brand did. Thank you Dr. Lum for all of your time and assistance.
